Chapter 39
Tense, knowing he was in serious trouble, Spider-Man tried to keep an eye on each of his adversaries who were now surrounding him.
"So, Spider-Man, welcome to the party." Green Goblin laughed. "Just a shame you forced our guests to leave."
"Well, party was getting a little rough for everyone." Spidey quipped. "Now...since there's no more party guests, what do you say we just split this up and go home?"
"Oh no, I am going to destroy you for what you did to me!" Mysterio cut in.
"Worth a shot."
With that he quickly flipped out of the way as Mysterio tried to attack him, this of course led to Sandman launching his own attack, turning his fist into a spiked ball and extending his arm to try and smash him. But again Spider-Man was ready and used a web line to zip out of the way and landed on top of a nearby building. At which point the Green Goblin soared up in front of him.
"You really don't have any idea, ask yourself what gives you the right to be so self-righteous, getting in the way of justice." The Goblin sneered at him.
Spider-Man shook his head darkly. "Justice, there's no justice here, just murder and that's why I'm here. To see that you pay for your crimes."
"What of those vultures, you think they should get away with their crimes!?" Goblin snapped angrily.
"Funny, I didn't see them commit any crimes. I saw them honour a great man and try to make a useful and helpful contribution to society." Spider-Man fired back.
That was enough to enrage the Goblin it seemed.
With a wordless roar he launched one of his Pumpkin Bombs at the arachnid hero who quickly dodged out of the way, narrowly avoiding the explosion. Of course the Goblin wasn't finished, he swooped down and attempted to strike Spidey with the glider itself. It took a complicated flip to get out of the way, but luckily he managed it and that was enough for Spider-Man to be certain about one thing.
'Yup, the Green Goblin is definitely Norman Osborn...a very insane Norman Osborn.'
Managing to land on the wall of the next building, Spidey barely had time to react and leapt off his momentary safe spot as Sandman engaged in another attack, smashing that very part of the building he had been sheltering on. That was when Mysterio appeared and suddenly let loose a thick fog that surrounded Spider-Man, he groaned at this, feeling dizzy and suddenly, before he could do anything, the Green Goblin appeared again. He gasped and leapt out of the way, only very narrowly avoiding the attack, realising something horrifying.
'My Spider-Sense.' He thought in horror. 'No, no, this fog, it dulls my Spider-Sense, gotta get out of this.'
He did the only thing he could and moved to swing out of the fog, just as he did so, he saw the Goblin coming again and this time he could react. He quickly flipped in mid-air and snared the Goblin in his web, quickly throwing him to stick against a wall, the glider flying off out of control.
That only gave him a momentary respite as Sandman emerged. Spider-Man grimaced but he realized he might have a chance, if he could just keep this up, divide and conquer he could at least keep them down long enough to find some means of at least forcing them to retreat. With diabolical laughter, Sandman immediately attempted to attack him, forcing Spidey to dodge again and again.
'Not good, not good, not good.' He thought worriedly. 'Sandman is not easy to deal with. In this state, I'd never be able to hurt him.'
"Nice try, Web-Head." Sandman gloated. "But now you've gotta deal with me."
Spider-Man shook his head. "Well, I can think of worse things, at least you give good conversation."
Sandman shook his head. "You just can't help yourself with that mouth of yours, can you?"
"True, but that's part of my charm, right?" Spider-Man countered in a cheeky tone.
Sandman just smirked and then shook his head, before attacking.
"Hate to cut this short!" He yelled. "But I've gotta wrap this up!"
That gave Spider-Man some hope, if they were in a rush that meant they didn't yet want to tangle with the police, likely due to not wanting to waste time.
'Just gotta buy time, but...wait, that's it.' He thought, feeling hopeful as he noticed something.
He swung around Sandman, dodging two more attacks but he soon reached where he wanted and landed. He waited for his chance and sure enough, Sandman attacked and he got out of the way, letting Sandman strike the water tower which caused his entire right arm from the elbow down to be drenched.
Sandman's eyes widened as he realized this.
"NO!" He screamed.
Spidey took his chance. "Now it's my turn!"
With that he quickly attacked the soaked arm until he was able to do enough damage that it crumbled away. Sandman cried out in pain and backed down, trying to quickly regrow the arm. That was when Spidey realized a problem. Mysterio could dissolve his webbing and he was now trapped in the fog again. That was when the Goblin's Pumpkin Bomb went off and damaged him, before the Goblin charged him and slammed into him, causing him to tumble along the ground and land in a badly beaten, damaged heap, worse, his mask had come off. He reached for it and gripped it but was in too much pain to pull it to him and back on. He kept his head down as the trio of villains came down to this level and were now only several feet away from him.
"No!" A familiar voice screamed.
The villains all laughed and the rest of the party looked in horror as Mike practically threw himself on top of Spider-Man, using his body as a shield, as well as hiding Spider-Man's identity.
"What a shame?" Green Goblin laughed. "Ah well, I suppose we'll have to teach you a lesson as well."
But before he could even act, they heard the sound of police sirens as the illusions finally vanished and they realized they were out of time.
The Goblin shook his head.
"Ah well, another time, we've got more to do after all." He remarked.
The others laughed and also seemed to agree, despite Mysterio's desire for revenge, he was willing to hold off for now. Without wasting any more time, the villain trio made their escape.
"M-Mike?" Spider-Man gasped. "You, you shouldn't haveā¦"
Mike shook his head, lifting himself up a little. "I'm sorry, I couldn't let them."
"No way."
That was when Mike and Will froze in horror, Will looking at his mask in his hand then at the Party who were all staring in shock, they now knew his secret.
