Chapter 42

Crawling through the vents in Oscorp, Spider-Man looked through the vent cover below him.

"Bland corridor…" He mused. "Hey guys, what have we got on the this floor?"

Lucas chimed in at that point. "This is mainly offices, things like accounts and that, I don't think we'll get anything major here."

"Not unless we're interested in how Brenner's been spending his money." Max added. "But that's not exactly gonna take him down, it didn't take Norman down."

Spider-Man pondered for a moment. "Hmmm, yeah, we'd need the office he's using, try to find it. In the meantime, I think we should check the labs, I've got an idea."

Mike then explained. "Which labs, you know what Oscorp is like?"

"To be fair any labs, just so long as there's a computer in it, that's how they operate, every computer is linked up to a network solely for it's function. All lab computers hooked up to servers for Oscorp's science experiments, all of them." Spider-Man explained.

"I think I see where you're going with this." Dustin remarked. "Okay, there should be labs two floors down. Brenner's not using the upstairs office, guess he's paranoid, huh?"

"Alright, works for me. We'll have to find it then we can get to work."

They all agreed and soon they were hard at work while Spider-Man worked through the vents, looking for a vent that would lead to an elevator shaft, allowing him to get downstairs.

With a groan, Nancy blinked, trying to clear her vision, her head felt like it was swimming but she soon recovered enough to remember what had happened to her. Her eyes snapped open, she'd been knocked out at the Oscorp checkpoint, she was no longer at the checkpoint or even her car.

"What?" She gasped.

She looked around wildly, heart hammering in her chest as she realized. She was in an Oscorp lab, lying on a table of some sort, no, tied to a table of some sort. Straps, the kind usually seen on asylum beds, secured her wrists, ankles and torso to the bed. She immediately tugged at the straps but stopped when the door opened and a trio of men in lab coats, and Brenner, entered the room.

"You-"

"You brought this on yourself, Miss Wheeler." Brenner explained blandly. "I should've known you'd be one of those."

"Those?" She snapped. "You kidnapped me for no reason, I-"

"You are a mutant sympathiser and a therefore a danger to the people of New York, everyone knows that they-" Brenner began to rave.

"Oh, so that's it." Nancy snapped, cutting him off. "You can't stand someone calling you out on your bullshit, this has nothing to do with mutants, it's your personal petty prejudices and revenge, that's what's worth ruining New York to you."

Brenner snarled and stepped up and slapped her, Nancy flinched but just smiled, that was all the proof she needed to know she had been right.

"You won't be smiling when we're done." He said simply. "Run your tests gentlemen, then deal with her."

Those words startled Nancy and she froze, wondering what that meant exactly, she got her answer when she saw two of the men approach her with a few of the typical new cutting edge Oscorp test devices. Medical machines that allowed doctors to conduct examinations on patients while not being physically invasive, yet still finding as many details as possible. But what caught her attention was the third man, filling a syringe from a bottle with a clear poison label, they were going to kill her.

"No, you can-MRUGH MMM!" She screamed.

She was cut off by another strap being forced between her teeth and secured tightly as the scientists prepared to begin to get to work.

Finally, Spider-Man let out a sigh of relief as he reached the correct floor.

"Alright guys, I'm in." He said as her slipped through the elevator shaft and through another vent, landing on the floor of the main lab room.

"So, what exactly are you looking for in here?" Suzie asked.

As he found the nearest computer he quickly began working on breaking in as he explained.

"Venom, there's information on him here. Billy was here the day I fought Green Goblin and Mr. Negative, there was a tank here-"

"Filled with a strange black liquid or something, that seemed alive." Mike gasped. "Nancy and I saw it when we had the field trip here."

Spider-Man smiled as he worked. "Yeah, why am I not surprised. Anyway, that black liquid, I hit the tank and was injured, it must've absorbed some DNA or whatever that I left behind and then got to Billy...that's how Venom has the power he does."

"So if there's anything about this creature, about how to stop it, it's here?" Max asked hopefully.

"That's what I'm hoping." Spider-Man explained. "Ah here we go, this sounds like the right thing, but what's this...Symbiote? Huh?"

He had set the data to be copied, but then he was distracted by a muffled scream and hurried to the large window across from the computer which looked out over an operating room type chamber and froze.

"No way!" Dustin gasped. "Nancy?!"

Spider-Man grimaced. "This changes things guys."

"We've gotta save her." Mike blurted out.

"That's the plan." Spider-Man agreed. "Gotta revise the others."

With that he used his webs to catapult himself through the window, breaking it as he burst into the room and causing shock as he made his way straight to the rescue of the captive Nancy.
