Brittany's Point of View
Family Day finally arrived, and I was pumped and ready for the song and dance number of Be Our Guest that I and the others involved had been practicing to perfection. It was the opening of the day, so I hadn't gotten a chance to see my family yet. As I danced with the group, I felt a pang of jealousy as I saw that Kai was already with my family. I gazed around the yard and spotted Alison and Xigbar. As soon as I finished, I nearly knocked Audrey over as I rushed to Alison's side and gave her a big hug. "I've missed you so much," I greeted.
"I've missed you, too. Who's the boy hanging with our family?" Alison asked.
"That's Kai. He's Molly's brother. I guess he knew us before our memories were taken away," I explained.
Braig touched Alison's shoulder, and Alison turned to him. "I'll be over there," Xigbar said, gesturing to a group of trees.
"Okay," Alison replied before Xigbar walked away.
"So, what's Xigbar doing here?" I wondered.
"I'm staying with him while my dad is doing something. It's so weird. He has a wife and a daughter that's my age and another daughter that's Molly's age," Alison mentioned.
"For real? I would never have expected that," I commented.
"Speaking of families, we should go be with ours," Alison brought up.
"Right. Well, I don't know. Kai is over there. Maybe we should-" I started.
"What are you talking about? Did Kai threaten you or something?" Alison interrupted.
"Well, no. It just might be kind of weird," I pointed out.
"That's a lame excuse, even for you. Come on," Alison groaned, taking my hand and pulling me toward my parents, Sora, Kairi, Molly, and Kai.
Dad was the first to notice us. "Brittany, Alison, good to see you," He smiled.
"Hi," I replied. Everyone's eyes turned to me. I usually liked being the center of attention, but Kai changed things. I knew that he wanted to be Molly's older brother, but I was in the way of that. Molly hugged me, which didn't help my stress. Alison nudged me, but I remained stiff and silent.
"Brit? Everything alright?" Kairi asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Everything is fine. Perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with me. I'm fine," I replied.
"Have you been doing okay at this school?" Sora inquired.
I glanced in Kai's direction. He looked sad that I was stealing his attention. I panicked. "Um, yeah. It's been okay. Hey, Aly, didn't you say you wanted to see your sister again? I see her right over there along with the others," I said, trying to find an excuse to get away. I shot Alison a pleading look.
Alison sighed. "Yeah. I really want to see her. Let's go say hi." We headed in Mal's direction. "I don't know what's gotten into you, but you need to get over it. They're our family."
"I know. Hey, before we see your sister, I need to talk to you about something secret," I brought up.
"What kind of secret?" Alison wondered.
"The kind that you can't tell any of our parents," I answered.
"Go on," Alison urged.
"Mal, Evie, Carlos, Jay, and P.J. are going to try to steal Fairy Godmother's wand on coronation day. No one can know," I explained.
"We should tell our dad," Alison mentioned.
"Are you kidding me? He was ready to erase your memories when you were with Xehanort. What would he do about these kids who he doesn't even know? I can't just sell them out like that," I pointed out.
"What are we going to do about it then?" Alison questioned.
"Nothing. I just wanted you to be prepared for what may pass. Their goal is to remove the barrier around The Isle of the Lost. If that happens, your mom is going to be set free," I clarified.
"Nothing? What is wrong with you. You have no idea what it's like over there. We can't just let this happen," Alison huffed.
"Look, when I started going along with their scheme, my initial thought was to infiltrate their group and wait for the right moment to take them down, but things are different now. They're changing, and I want to believe that they will choose to do the right thing when the time comes," I said.
"You're too optimistic, Brit. Fine. When this blows up in your face, I'll help you clean up your mess, and you're never going to hear the end of it," Alison smirked.
I hugged Alison. "Thank you," I smiled.
"Okay, okay. No need to get so mushy. Are we going to hang with your friends or what?" Alison reminded.
I looked around to see that my friends were a little scattered but in the same general area. Mal was playing croquet with Ben, along with who appeared to be Belle and the human form of Beast, Jay was cheering Ben on, Evie was talking to Melody, Carlos was playing with Dude, the school dog, and P.J. was talking with Max and Goofy. It just registered for me that this was family day, and I was in a school full of the offspring of Disney characters. "Whoa. It's like my dream come true," I squealed.
"You're just noticing that? You are so oblivious. Are we sure that you aren't related to Sora?" Alison scoffed.
"I'm able to talk to a bunch of Disney characters. There's Ariel and Eric with Melody! Look over there! There's Jim, his mother, Dr. Doppler, and Amelia, and there's-"
I was cut off short when a voice exclaimed, "You!" I turned to see an elderly woman looking at Mal with fear in her eyes. I started approaching Mal slowly in case things became ugly. Carlos, Evie, P.J., Jay, and Ben had the same idea.
"Queen Leah, it's okay. Maleficent is still on the island," Ben assured her before he put his arm around Mal. "This is her daughter, Mal. Don't you remember my proclamation to give the new generation a chance?"
"A chance to what, Ben? Destroy us?" The woman scoffed before turning to the crowd that had formed. "Come on, you remember, don't you? The poison apples." The woman turned to Mal. "And the spells. Spells. My daughter was raised by fairies because of your mother's curse. So, her first words, her first steps, I missed it all!" She turned away.
Mal tried to reach out and apologize. "I'm so-"
Chad blocked Mal's reach and stood between her and the woman. "Stay away from her!" Chad shouted.
"Don't do this, Chad," Ben warned.
"What? They were raised by their parents, Ben. What do you think villains teach their kids? Huh? Kindness? Fair play? No way, okay? Uh-uh," Chad snapped.
"They have more kindness in their pinky than you have in your whole body," I challenged.
"Oh, really?" Chad asked before he turned to Mal. "You stole another girl's boyfriend."
"Hey, hey!" Ben tried.
Chad pointed at Jay. "You enjoy hurting people," Chad accused. He turned to Evie. "And you, you're nothing but a gold digger and a cheater."
Evie held her mirror and spoke to it. "Mirror, mirror, in my hand, who's the biggest jerk in the land." Evie showed Chad his own reflection.
"What?! Come on!" Chad exclaimed, slapping Evie's hand away.
Jay got in Chad's face and shoved him, and Evie sprayed Chad with her perfume, and Chad fell asleep. Ben pulled Jay away as Audrey and Doug tried to wake Chad up. I looked over my shoulder, but Alison had disappeared. I followed Mal, P.J., Evie, Jay, and Carlos to the picnic tables. "Are you guys okay? That was super messed up," I commented. I noticed that everyone, including Max, was staying away from them.
"It's... whatever," Mal grumbled. Everyone was clearly upset.
"Brittany!" Dad shouted from afar.
"I'll see you guys after I see what my dad wants," I sighed.
"Don't bother," Mal huffed.
Before I left the table, Evie grabbed my hand. "Thank you for trying to stand up for us back there," She said.
"I meant it. Chad's a jerk. You guys are a little mischievous, but you have shown me more kindness than some of these stuck-up princesses and princes," I replied before walking to my dad.
When I was close enough, Dad put his hands on my shoulders. "Are you okay? You were really close to that action," He checked.
"I'm fine, Dad," I assured him.
He hugged me. "Hey, if those kids are anything like their parents, they're bad news. You should probably stay away from them. Let's talk to Fairy Godmother about getting you a new roo-" Dad stopped when I pulled away.
"What?! Chad and Audrey are the real jerks. Mal, Evie, Carlos, Jay, and P.J. are my friends. And by the way, isn't your father Xehanort?" I reminded.
"Brittany, that's different. I didn't know about that until I was an adult. These kids were raised by evil people. I heard about that prank you pulled on Audrey, by the way. That doesn't look good for you. It seems pretty clear that they have been a bad influence on you. Stay away from them,
Brittany. It's what's best for you," Dad insisted.
"I can't believe I'm hearing this from you right now, of all people. You're Riku! You literally joined with their parents as soon as you escaped Destiny Islands! If I shouldn't be around them, then I definitely shouldn't be around you," I snapped.
Dad glared at me. A part of me regretted those words, but I knew they had to be said. I stomped away. When I glanced back at Dad, I saw that he made a beeline for Fairy Godmother. I knew he would try to get me to change my room. I was furious. Evie, Mal, Carlos, P.J., and Jay had left by the time I headed back to the table. I sat down and buried my face in my hands. When I felt a hand on my shoulder, I spun around to see Kai standing behind me. "You okay?"
"No. My dad seriously wants me to stop hanging out with Carlos, Jay, Mal, Evie, and P.J. Can you believe him?" I huffed
"I didn't come here to take sides or argue. I was just told to let you know that you're moving to Melody's and Lonnie's room. I'm sure this will all blow over at some point," Kai explained.
"He actually did it," I groaned.
"Hey, look. I don't know a lot about the VKs, but maybe, for now, this is for the best. You saw what happened with Audrey's grandmother. You were there," Kai said, taking a seat next to me.
"Chad totally instigated the situation. If anyone was looking for a fight, it was him," I declared.
"Can't argue with you there. Chad is a bit of a pompous royal pain," Kai chuckled.
"Isn't there anything we can do to let me stay in my room?" I tried.
"I'm afraid there isn't. Your dad is pretty adamant about you not being involved with them. He even talked Fairy Godmother out of keeping you in Remedial Goodness," Kai commented.
"Fine," I grumbled. I got out of my seat and started to head back to the dorms.
"Where are you going?" Kai asked.
"To find my friends," I answered.
Kai grabbed my wrist. "I'm afraid I can't let you do that," He stated.
I turned to Kai. "What are you saying?" I questioned.
Kai's eyes couldn't seem to meet mine. "Your dad also made me promise to make sure you aren't around them," Kai replied.
I nearly couldn't believe what was happening. I tried to pull away. "Let go," I growled.
"Only if you'll stay at the party," Kai insisted. I continued to try to pull away.
Kairi approached us. "Is something wrong?"
Kai let go of my hand. "No, Mom. Everything is fine," He said.
"Brittany?" Kairi checked.
I felt so overwhelmed by what had happened that I hugged her and started crying. "Mom, it's awful," I sobbed.
"What's awful? What happened? Was it that incident earlier?" Kairi pressed.
"Dad said that I couldn't be around Mal, Evie, Carlos, Jay, and P.J., and now I was reassigned to a new room, and Kai is stopping me from seeing them," I shuddered.
"Sora did what?!" Kairi exclaimed.
"No. My other dad. Riku," I clarified.
"Riku did this? And you went along with it, Kai? I am ashamed of you," Kairi huffed.
"But Mom, Uncle Riku told me to," Kair tried.
"And?" Kairi gave Kai one of her glares.
"Nothing, Mom. I'm sorry," Kai apologized.
"Come on, Brit. I'm going to give your father a piece of my mind," Kairi declared. She and I walked to Dad. "Do you see how upset your daughter is right now? So what if they come from a place full of villains. Those kids haven't done anything wrong."
"Kairi, this doesn't concern you. This is between my daughter and me," Dad stated.
Kairi was stunned but soon recovered. "Have you lost your mind?! Do you want to go there? Because I will take you all the way. Your daughter? Your daughter?! She's my daughter too. Even when she remembered everything and knew about all this, you hardly ever visited her. She is more my daughter than she ever will be yours. I hope you'll reconsider your statement because if you don't, things are about to get ugly."
"My decision is final. Brittany doesn't need to be around them. They are a bad influence on her. You heard about the pranks," Dad insisted.
"Excuse me?!" I began to tune out the conversation as Kairi and Dad argued. Sora stepped in and tried to pull Kairi away, but she was too livid for that. It became a scene.
Fairy Godmother stepped in. "Excuse me, Kairi, Riku, I'm afraid if you cannot keep your discussion civil, I will have to ask you to leave. I would say one incident was enough for the day, wouldn't you?"
"Absolutely. Which is why I demand an apology!" Kairi shouted.
Sora rushed to Kairi's side. "Hey, we're leaving. Where's Molly?" He looked around and spotted Molly talking to Max. "Molly, we're leaving!"
"Okay, Daddy," Molly replied, running back to Sora and Kairi. Sora practically dragged Kairi back to their gummi ship, and Molly followed along, shooting me a confused glance.
"Brittany, this doesn't concern Kairi. I don't know why you got her involved, but-" Dad started.
"She's my mom. She knows when something is bothering me. Wasn't she, like, one of your best friends? You just treated her like trash," I huffed. Mom approached us to see what was happening.
Fairy Godmother turned to Dad. "Riku, perhaps you would like to finish this conversation here at this moment. Brittany has my permission to leave campus for as long as you need her to. If you and Yuffie could just go somewhere that's not here, that would be appreciated," Fairy Godmother suggested.
"Yes. I apologize. Thank you for accommodating us," Dad sighed. He turned to Mom. "You ready?"
"Yes," Mom replied. They started to leave the campus. I only followed them because I didn't want to leave things with me not being allowed to hang out with my friends. We reached where they had parked their gummi ship and went inside, but we didn't go anywhere. I crossed my arms and glared at my father. He just stared back at me. "What happened?"
"Brittany has issues with her new rules," Dad answered.
Mom turned back to me. "Brittany, we're just thinking about what's best for you," Mom tried.
That was when I realized that I was outnumbered, and I felt cornered. Regardless, I attempted to fight back. "What's best for me, or what's best for your reputation?"
"Brittany, I've had enough. Press the matter any further, and I will take you out of Auradon Prep," Dad threatened.
Tears formed in my eyes. "Then there's nothing to talk about," I huffed.
"Actually, there is. You had Kairi involved. She is no longer your parent. At most, she is your aunt. I understand that it took you a while to adjust, but we're your parents now. That means that you have to start going by our rules, and if you don't like them, tough. You can't just go crying to Sora and Kairi. I expect better from you," Dad shot back.
"You don't even know me!" I screamed. I could see that Mom was hurt, but it was the truth.
Dad's expression darkened. "Yuffie, start heading home. I have a call to make. We'll come back for the coronation."
"Alright," Mom agreed.
"What?!" I exclaimed.
"If you behave, you may go back to school after the coronation. If you don't, there will be consequences, and you won't even be able to attend the coronation. Do I make myself clear?" Dad snapped.
"Crystal," I stated. Tears threatened to come down, but I didn't allow it until I was alone. Dad went to a different room to make his call, so I didn't have to wait long. I was mad at my parents. Angry enough to help bring his old enemy Maleficent back from the Isle of the Lost. I knew what I had to do.
I made this one a really long chapter. I also have a new cover for this chapter only. I plan on changing it back when I have the next chapter up.
