The Children Will Be All Right

"Miranda?"

Miranda jumped, drooping onto the couch. "Rollie. I didn't hear you come in."

"I'm sorry for startling you but the coach is ready," Roland said.

She should've been excited. A week to themselves without the children or the hustle of running a kingdom.

The children.

Sofia, Amber, and James will be looked after and Baileywick would inform them of any emergency to occur while they were away but Miranda was still worried.

She hadn't been away from her daughter since the day Sofia was born. She couldn't part with her now.

"I remember my first vacation as king after Amber and James were born so I understand how you feel," Roland acknowledged, helping her get to her feet.

Miranda sniffed, wiping away tears. "How did you get through it?"

"Had to remind myself that they were in good hands." Roland kissed her cheek. "And they still are. If anything happens, Baileywick will tell us. He wouldn't let anything happen to Amber, James, or Sofia."

His reassurances made Miranda feel at ease as her tightening heart lessened.

Sofia would be all right while she went away.

Speaking of…

"Mom!"

Sofia flung herself into Miranda's arms, nearly knocking them both back into the couch.

"What's all this about honey?" Miranda chuckled.

Sofia smiled, settling herself down on the floor of her parents' bedchamber. "I wanted to wish you luck on your vacation."

"You don't need to, Sofia," Roland assured her as he and Miranda ruffled her hair. "We got all the luck we need right here."

Sofia beamed, getting similar smiles in return.

Now Miranda was ready for the once in a lifetime vacation with her husband without the dread of leaving the children overpowering her.
