Chapter 2 – Understanding
Doc. Stevens mouth opened to speak when he was interrupted by a rather surprised voice. "She's up?! When…I-" Doctor Stevens turned around and nodded, as the figure approached the hospital bed and the pale, pink hedgehog, who was staring at him contently. "W-Who are you…Sonic?" The figure came closer, allowing Amy to get a closer look. Amy saw a black and red striped hedgehog, looking similar, yet different than the brother she knew. "I'm Shadow." The figure announced, leaving Amy dumb founded. "Allow me to explain, Miss Rose."
"You see, shortly after your 'accident,' Shadow here saw the driver push you out of the taxi and drive off, so Shadow picked you up and carried you here. You've been here for the last two years. Your injuries have healed, but you may need some help walking and doing everyday tasks." Amy nodded, half listening as she looked down, a tear dripping down her cheek. "Why didn't anyone look for me…have they forgotten about me?" Shadow sighed and sat on a wooden, rustic chair beside the bed. "No, they haven't, I can assure you that. I- Well, you see, shortly after you were admitted to the hospital, a purge begun. A mad scientist named Dr. Robotnik, or Eggman as I have heard, took over the world with his army of evil robots. Everyone went crazy, scavenging for supplies and ransacking grocery stores. Everyone was in a state of fear for around a year, until this resistance called the 'Freedom Fighters' rebelled against him and defeated him. That was 6 months ago. After that, everyone moved away and changed their phone numbers. We tried getting into touch with everyone in your contact list, but the numbers no longer were in service. I'm. Sorry…" Amy looked shocked, before she threw her head into her hands and sobbed uncontrollably. How could this be? Why did this have to happen to her? Where was everyone now? She fell a warm hand on her shoulder and saw the hedgehog who claimed to be her rescuer smiling softly at her, before pulling her in for a much-needed hug. Amy buried her head in his chest, crying, letting everything that she had just heard come out, letting her pain come out. The nurse spoke up: "Miss Rose, you'll be staying in the hospital for a week or so, depending on how fast you recover. Shadow has volunteered to take care of you until we can get in touch with your family."
Amy nodded, feeling heart broken. She felt a wave of regret wash over her. She wished she had never gotten in that taxi, but now, she couldn't go back in time and fix that. She pulled away from Shadow and wiped her tears, feeling his worry-some eyes on him. She felt a blush creep up on her cheeks, before she shook off the feeling. Could it be…no! It couldn't. Two years ago, she would've believed in the whole 'love at first sight' ideal. But now, she wasn't so sure. Between everything that had happened, her small crush on Shadow would have to wait. Right now, she needed to focus on recovering quickly and finding Sonic. Cream, Blaze, Tails, Knuckles, Rouge, Silver, Sally…the people she was once important to her. Did they remember her? Had they moved on with their lives? They had every reason to, it's been two years. Still…it left her wondering.
The doctor and nurse left the room, as Amy lied down on the bed, closing her eyes. She didn't feel like sleeping; she had been for two years. Reality was starting to sink in. Once she got out of this hospital, where was she going to go? She had money, no place to stay…Shadow had offered Amy a room at his shabby apartment, but Amy turned it down, not wanting to impose. She would have to start high school all over again, go to college, and get a job faster than the pace she was at before. The pressure was starting to weigh down on her. She felt the same feeling as she did before, her heart raced, her breaths became shallow and rapid. She clutched her chest, trying to pace herself. She heard Shadow run to her, saying: "Rose, are you okay?" Amy shook her head 'no' as Shadow held her hands and sat in front of her, reassuring her and looking into her jade eyes. Amy looked back into his crimson eyes, and felt safe, and for a second, she forgot about the world around her. She forgot about how her life was falling apart, and how she desperately wanted to find everyone. She focused on the present, and Shadow's eyes, until he blinked and looked away, letting go of Amy's hands when he saw her calming down. Amy blinked in surprise, before understanding the situation, and feeling awkward as Shadow spoke up. "Rose, please…I-" Amy saw the pain in his eyes, and face. She wondered what was wrong, but she didn't want to pry into his personal life, so she instead said: "I-I'm fine, Shadow…I'm sorry for scaring you. Shadow smiled softly, feeling the pain wash away. He wanted to open up and talk, but he was afraid of getting hurt. Shadow whispered a 'goodnight' ever so sweetly, before getting up, and heading for the door. Amy suddenly called his name "Shadow! Wait!" Shadow turned around, locking eyes with Amy. "Yes, Rose?" "I just don't want to be alone tonight…please…stay with me!" Shadow smiled, before walking to the couch across the room, and sitting down. "As you wish, Rose. As you wish…"
Wow, looks like Amy and Shadow are getting closer! Next chapter will focus more on Amy's recovery, and MIGHT have some cute flirting between shadamy! Idk tbh? See you next chapter!
