Chapter 3 – Recovery Part 1

Amy's eyes slowly opened, her eyes adjusting to the blinding light coming from the window next to her bedside. She closed them involuntarily, before opening them again, looking around the room. She sat up and sighed, remembering the previous day's activities. Her eye shifted to a piece of paper on the night stand. 'Fresh ink, must have been just dropped off…" she thought as her hand picked it up and brought it close enough to read. 10:00am – Check-up from Doctor Stevens, 12:00am – lunch at cafeteria, 1:45 – physical therapy session, 6:00 – back to room. Amy groaned at the thought of so much work, especially since she had only woken up yesterday. She looked down at her hospital gown, she hated wearing it. It was so uncomfortable, and it smelled terrible. Her eyes glanced at the clock, 9:30. Amy sighed, she had better take a shower, although she had nothing to change into.

Her foot touched the cold, tiled floor. She winced, feeling her feet freeze. She put both her feet on the floor and couldn't help but smile. Now, she was getting somewhere. Mustering up all her strength, she pushed herself off the bed, standing for a few seconds. A glimmer of hope went through her mind, but it was short-lived, as she felt a pain shoot up her legs. She groaned in pain, then shrieked as she fell to the ground. She quickly used the wall to balance herself, before sitting down against it. Her skin felt cold and clammy from the cold floor, but that was the least of her worries. Hot tears were taking over her eyes quickly. Why couldn't she walk? Well, she hadn't in two years, what was she expecting? Still, it was quite a shock, and it hurt. Not physically, well, maybe a bit physically, but mostly emotionally.

Meanwhile, Shadow had been sleeping peacefully on the couch. His ears picked up the faint sound of a shriek, and his eyes darted open, scanning the room for danger. His body relaxed as he realized there was none, and he took a few deep breaths to calm himself down. He got up, wanting to take a fresh shower to start the say, when he sensed something. He saw a pale, pink hedgehog, sitting against the wall, tears streaming down her face. His expression quickly changed from relaxed to concerned as he approached Amy and knelt beside her. "What's wrong, Rose?" Amy's emerald, green eyes locked sight with his crimson red eyes. What was this connection? She looked away, wondering if she could open up to him, wondering if he would listen. She decided to take that chance, and spoke. "N-No, I'm not okay! I missed two years of my life! No one knows nor remembers me! I'm stuck in this stupid hospital; I can't walk nor even stand for a few seconds! I-I-I can't take this anymore!" She buried her head in Shadow's chest, letting her warm tears soak into his white fur. Shadow felt his cheeks flush, as he hugged her, and stroked her pink quills. Even though he barely knew her, he felt her pain. He too had a time when he…no! Shadow forced those thoughts and flashbacks out of his mind. He refused to go to that dark place. He forced a smile as he cupped Amy's face, wiping her tears away. Amy's couldn't help but smile at Shadow's grin. He was so caring and compassionate. Those feelings Amy had last night were flooding back. She nervously blushed, not knowing what to say, as Shadow shyly pulled away, helping Amy up and putting her on the hospital bed. Shadow stubbed his toe, and made a face as he grabbed his foot and started mumbling things under his breath. Amy laughed and playfully rolled her eyes, as Shadow gave her a glare. That was Amy's cue to shut the hell up.

Suddenly, a knock at the door filled the silence in the room. "Miss Rose? It's Doctor Stevens! I'm here for your 10:00am check-up!" Amy groaned at those words. Did thirty minutes pass by already? She shrugged, before nodding at Shadow, indicating for him to open the door. Shadow opened the white door, to find Doctor Stevens with a cart of needles, vials, and tubes. Amy gulped, looking at the assortment of equipment. What, were they going to suck her dry of blood?" That thought sent a shiver down her spine. She looked at Shadow, hoping that he would reassure her, but he said: "Imma head to the cafeteria and grab something to eat, see you Rose." As he exited. Amy made a irritated face, before Doctor Stevens approached her and set up his equipment. "Alright, first, I'm going to tie your arm over here tightly so I can find your vein, then I'll insert this needle into it and get a blood sample. Should be done in a moment." (one moment later) 'I'm so glad this is over!' Amy thought to herself as Doctor Stevens chuckles, before speaking up. "This is the suitcase you had with you, there's some clothes, make-up, shoes, and bags in there you can change into. Have a good day, Miss Rose." Doctor Stevens left, just as Amy began to squeal.

"Showers and new clothes?! Yes!" If she could, she would be jumping up and down. Amy opened the hot pink suitcase he had left beside her bed, and saw a whole new wardrobe. Amy smiled, before grabbing a towel and slowly but carefully made her way to the bathroom. She bit her lip as she felt a sharp pain with every step. After what seemed like forever, she made it. The bathroom was simple, nothing special, but that didn't make Amy any less excited. She slipped off the hospital gown and stepped in the shower, turning on the water. "Mmm" she moaned as she felt the warm water splash on her. Maybe this day wouldn't turn out so bad after all.

Ooh, things appear to be turning out okay for Amy Rose! Part two coming tomorrow. Stay sweet!
