Luce's back was still against the office door. She thought the ones out there who were shocked to see Soul Mates finding each other. They were probably all still standing there. She wanted to shove Ranger away. Her head was still on his chest and she couldn't seem to get the energy to push the man away. He smelled good and she felt safe. What the fuck was that she rarely found someone that made her feel safe. The last person was her Homicide Detective partner and a few other cops she worked with. Though she rarely did much other than getting drunk at a bar.
Luce's brain was trying to find a way out of this even though there was no way to get out of this. She liked her life not getting close. Being a cop and detective she had to rely on his partners otherwise you could end up dead. After losing her partner and her other friend who was a cop all in one day. She had decided to just keep everyone at arm's length even the ones she had been friends with there were only about three of them. She had kept that as small as she could. Five even then seemed to be too much then two were killed in front of her. Too much like what happened with her family on that day.
Luce breathed out as he pushed at his chest. "Move please." Her breath was more than a whisper. When Ranger moved back, she looked at him for a second. She rubbed at her face. She knew that she couldn't leave the city. They both lose their mind if they don't see each other every few days. Maybe working here would be good. Her friend said he was always professional. "Guess we need to have that interview?"
Ranger looked at him, raising his brow then he nodded. "Let's get it done." Ranger walked out talking to the huge guy who looked like he could bench press a truck. That must be Tank. She was told what he looked like and she laughed to herself. She actually thought he was kidding, but nope he is one big muscle man. Then he came back with Tank, and the interview started it lasted about an hour. He knew this was a high end so it was about right. Tank left as Ranger leaned back. "You hired one your my mate so I like the idea of having you work here." What was probably not said was so he could watch over me. "You can start next week. We have an opening in the apartments here you can live in. Since I am guessing you don't want to be in my bed right off the bat."
Luce laughed a little and looked at him, nodding. "Just meet you. So yeah sharing your bed or living with you is a bit too far for me." Ranger smirked but nodded as he stood. "Come on, I want to see how well you are with a gun. I have heard you were the best shot in your police department. Then I want to check out your fighting skills. I will get Lester Santos to get on the mats with you. " I almost said why not you then I decided yeah that wouldn't be the best idea. That took another two hours. She showed she had sharpshooter skills. Then she beat Lester twice and lost twice. That seemed to get the approval she was glad she brought her gym bag with her. Before heading home, she let Ranger know she had a registered gun and she was licensed to carry and also concealed. She had FBI agents that she worked with a little, and there was mutual respect.
Ranger had told her she could head out. Though he said that he was going to get a hold of her to meet up for dinner tonight. She breathed out thinking shit a date. She never dated it was usually going to a club or bar rather than going to a motel with some guy and a nightstand. How was she gonna handle being in a fucking relationship? She had never been in one and she was pretty sure she never wanted to be in one. Yes, she had felt lonely but she always assumed that to have friends maybe a family again. Though she didn't want to start one she didn't know how to be a mother.
Her own mother had been not a good example at all. To become someone's girlfriend and then lead to wife. To her was a lot of stress. Why can't she just keep it this way? She got to the motel she started packing everything. She is living at a small apartment in Rangeman. Her mind went to start thinking about things. She was about to get her cell out to text Ranger that she wanted to move in tonight if that was okay. The door knocked and she opened it to Ranger and she raised a brow he spoke up. "Need to move you to your new place. Figure its a quick move since you can't put to much in a motel room."
She thought about it fuck. She forgot how it was to find that mate. That person is meant to be yours forever. Your mate you always craved to be near them. That would be her whole life. She sighed softly as she looked at him and nodded. She went back to packing and spoke up. "Relationships are not something I am up for now and maybe never. What if we just make friends with benefits or something?"
I felt him grab me around the stomach and drag my back against his chest as he whispered into my ear. "No, you are my mate. There are no benefits to it. I am fine with you taking it slow with me. At some point, you are going to live with me. At some point, you going to marry me and then will discuss children." I swallowed and said nothing else. I started to get all my things in my truck as I breathed out. I was gonna wait till later to go to the place I had my things packed up. He took me to my new apartment then after I had all my things in there. He pushed me against the wall and kissed me deeply. Softly growled. "You remember this you are mine Luce." He kissed me again. "Night. Call me if you need me."
