Chapter 13 – Family Magic and Approvals
Fleur thought for a moment and then realized she had said that. Hanging her head she muttered "You two are evil. I am glad, however, that you are on our side."
The group laughed as they all agreed. Fred and George bowed but did manage to mimic a tomato at the praise from Fleur and the group.
"I would say that was amazing but that hardly encompasses it. You are all amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better group and these." Harry waved his hand at the testing area. "As much fun as this is. How about we try these on people we don't like. We should have a field test." Harry said with a gleam in his eye.
By the next morning Harry was all healed and ready to get back at it. Walking out of breakfast he asked Sirius to join him back near the scary shed. Hermione and Fleur were already gone to Gringotts before Harry had arrived for breakfast. Gone also were Daniel and William. This puzzled Harry but not enough to seek answers immediately.
"Sirius how fast can you cast a shield or flame freezing spell?" Harry asked.
"Interesting question. I would like to think I'm fast but probably not as fast as I was when I was with the Aurors. What are you planning." he answered.
"I'm planning as the muggles would say. To get back on the horse." Harry said.
Sirius was confused for a moment then he replied. "You mean get back on the broom or the Hippogryph and I agree it's a good idea. I'm in."
They had been talking the entire way back to the scary shed and walking behind it found what Fleur had told him would be there. It was a large fire pit with a circle of stones about two meters wide. The ground was stone covered in a circle about ten meters wide. This would prevent the fire from spreading. Sirius seemed to approve as he levitated a few large logs into the pit and added the glass contents from a rubbish bin that was off to the side. Sirius smiled as if he had struck pay dirt as he levitated several different colored bottles and put them in the middle of the pile.
Stepping back Sirius brushed his hands off like he had actually done some work and not just waved his wand around.
"Thank you Padfoot. Now step aside so you are ready incase something goes wrong." Harry said.
Sirius moved to Harrys right and slightly behind him. That would put him in the most advantageous position to be able to shield Harry and stop the fire if it got out of control.
"Is it possible for the fire to get out of control? Is it like Fiendfyre?" Sirius asked.
"It's not living like fiendfyre. It's just very hot." Harry said kind of cryptically. Sirius nodded and made ready to protect Harry if necessary.
Sirius watched and waited. Almost ten seconds later a fire surrounded the logs in the fire pit. The fire wrapped around the logs and they immediately started burning. In seconds Sirius could feel the heat rising as Harry moved his hands like he was massaging the fire into something more. He then moved his hands closer together and the color of the fire morphed becoming almost white. Sirius could feel the heat and was tempted to use a cooling spell on himself but he didn't want to look away from what Harry was doing.
Harry concentrated on the pillar of fire and closed his hands until all the wood was consumed. The glass bottles had become pools of liquid glass in the air in the middle of the fire maelstrom. Sirius could see Harry concentrating as his finger started moving like he was molding something in mid air. Sirius tried to look through the flames but all he could see was the ripples of heat and colored blobs behind it.
Harrys concentration never faltered as it looked like he was molding something. Several minutes later Harry waved his left hand at a tree several meters away and leaves floated towards him. These floated into the swirling heat and were gone in moments.
Finally Harry opened his arms wider slowly letting the center cool. He also started blowing at the fire. Sirius wondered if he had gone round the twist. However, the blowing was yet another Potter magic and cooled the glass as the fire receded.
When Harrys arms had reached shoulder width Sirius could see several glass roses of intricate designs complete with leaves. Harry finally twisted his hand like he was turning off a gas cooker and the fire went out. Harry sagged a little but was proud of his control.
"That was…" Sirius began.
"I'm not sure how to describe that but it was amazing Harry."
Sirius reached Harry as his legs gave out and helped lowered him to a chair a meter behind him. Sirius checked and Harry was just tired.
"You ok?"
"Yes. I didn't realize how much it would take to work the glass. The fire wasn't too hard."
Sirius went to retrieve the flowers. He was careful to test the heat but they were cooled by the time he got to them. Which was amazing in itself considering just minutes ago they were liquid.
Harry was back on his feet when Sirius returned with the five roses cradled gently in his hands.
"From what I remember those will be very resilient and actually hard to break but thank you for being careful." Harry said.
Having recovered his breath they headed back to the house.
"That's really impressive Harry. Especially wandless. Not that useful in a fight but could be useful if you got caught without your wand. Do you think you could do that with metal?"
"I was thinking that too. I'm glad you were here to see it work. If I ever needed to use it what do you think?" Harry asked.
"I think it would be brilliant. I think that anyone that you decided to use it on would deserve it. You could eliminate someone so totally that no one would ever know what happened to them."
They had stopped and Harry was looking at Sirius as he said that. Studying the older mans face for any sign of deception he found none.
"What do you think the rest of the group would think of me if I incinerated someone?" Harry asked.
"I think we all realize this is a war and stunning them will just allow them back into the game. What do you think Regis and his lot would have done if you had stunned them and you missed even one of them?" Sirius asked.
"That one would have revived the others and they would have tried to or maybe succeeded in killing some of all of us. Maybe even Hermione." Harry shuddered at the thought.
"If I had learned that lesson sooner in the last war maybe some of my friends would still be here. Dumbledore seems to think everyone needs a second or a seventh chance to reform. I believe that just gives them permission to do it again. You get a chance you take it and make it good." Sirius said. Pointing back towards the fire pit. "If you think that would be the best solution then use it. You need all the tools on your side that you can collect."
Harry nodded. "Thanks Padfoot. I'll try."

The group met for dinner as usual and it was the usual noisy affair. Hermione and Fleur were chatting rapidly flipping between French and English. Daniel and William were mostly quiet but Harry could see they were both thinking. Sirius was telling the tail of how Harrys family magic could be used wandlessly. The twins were listening intently wondering just how powerful Harry really was.
With the food finished everyone knew it was time to talk shop. William looked at Daniel and nodded for him to start.
"Everyone. William and I were summoned to the French Minister of Magics office this morning. Yes, it was a summons and not a request."
This had everyones attention and a few frowns. Before anyone could ask he continued.
"It would seem that this war is not escaping the notice of the muggles. The French prime Minister contacted the Magical minister and had a few words. It turns out they know more about the magical world than anyone thought. When we got there my old unit commander was there as was Williams. We were reactivated on the spot." Daniel said as William nodded.
"What does that mean?" Harry asked. Trying not to jump to any conclusions like he did before.
"It means that we will have limited access to the muggle intelligence that we wanted. I'm guessing that it was the inquiries that Daniel made that got the higher ups attention. We had to explain what we wanted and why. The Minister of Magic was amazed that it might actually work and he put it under the strictest of secrecy so that only our group, him, and my boss would know what we are doing. The Prime Minister provided us with several contacts that are muggle born that will work with us and put them under the same secrecy." William finished.
"Wow. Um. This sounds like a huge offering. Please thank them for me. Us that is." Harry said.
"The Prime Minister believes that he is getting the better part of this deal. He doesn't want the war to spill over onto French soil. He also heard about our group taking Regis's gang out of commission and cleaning house in our ministry. I think he would like to clean his own house but he was hesitant to ask." William said.
"Ok. William and Daniel can you coordinate with the Marauders in coming up with a plan and then work with the muggle group to see if it's possible. My goal is to wallet every Deatheater and Voldermort. Once we have them I have an idea but I need to see what Hermione thinks about it before I share it with everyone." Harry said. He could see people wanting to ask but they refrained.
"Maybe I can help Harry. We found out from the goblins some very interesting facts about the Runes I've been using and they are analyzing the effects as we speak. I guess they have never tried setting up the array with non-goblin runes and it's proving more effective. I would imagine we will be hearing back from them in a few days. Until then I did learn something that will help us deal with Englands bad guys. The wallet linking that I created like the test with Daddy. Well that works over a much longer distanced than I thought. We could setup a wallet here in the shed and link it with one in England." Hermione said "The goblins offered a vault in a new tunnel that they are willing to ward just for us. After we have the wallet installed and tested they will only allow our magical signatures to apparate out of the cave. They will then destroy the tunnel into the vault. It will be buried deep under Gringotts and will never be unearthed again."
"Ze Goblins 'ave found in the past areas where tunneling is not safe and they will never tunnel in that area again. After the tunnel is collapsed they will ward the area as dangerous and no Goblin will ever dig there again." Fleur added "It vill also 'ave muggle repelling wards plus many more. It vill never be found again."
Harry thought for a minute and looked around the table at everyone with an evil grin.
"So. Who wants to teach Hermione and I to apparate?"
Every magical around the table raised their hands and when they looked around they started laughing.

Harry pulled Hermione into his room that night to her surprise. It had always been her to initiate sleeping in the same bed and now he was. She smiled at this until she saw the look in his eyes. It was haunted to say the least.
"Harry. What's wrong?" Hermione asked as he closed the door.
He pulled her to the large over stuffed chair and onto his lap. He pulled her close and just held her for a few minutes. It was not like Harry to initiate touches so she just held him and waited. When he was ready he would talk. Several minutes later he started.
"I've learned something yesterday and I want your truthful reaction." Harry started turning her so that they were looking into each others eyes. She nodded.
"We… I can't be mister nice Gryffindor anymore if we want to get through this alive. I've been thinking a lot and talking with your Dad and Sirius. I need to be more decisive. No. Let's be honest. I have to kill them before they have a chance to kill us. Sirius pointed out that if we had stunned Regis and his gang and missed even one that they would have probably killed at least one of us. I won't let that happen to you." Harry ended in almost a whisper. Hermione could see a tear forming in the corner of his eye.
"And you are worried that I will see you differently?"
Harry nodded. He tried to speak but nothing came out.
"I will see you as my hero that is willing to do whatever it takes to keep us all safe. Also realize I'll be by your side and casting those same curses that will kill anyone that would try to take you from me." She said.
Harry smiled and pulled her in for a wet kiss as both their eyes forced out emotions they felt. Harry pulled away. Both reassured their love wouldn't think bad of them they readied for bed and were fast asleep in a few minutes.
The next morning Harry woke before the sun was up. When he rolled over he met the most beautiful chocolate brown eyes and messy hair looking at him. He leaned forward for a quick kiss.
"Good morning love."
"Good morning my love." she responded.
"I want to show you something before anyone else gets up. Can we go out to the scary shed now?" Harry asked.
Seeing the look in his eyes she knew it was something big so she just nodded.
A few minutes later and they were sneaking out of the house and back towards the shed. Arriving Harry floated a few human sized logs into the fire pit and outfitted them with branch the size of arms and some sticks at the end resembling wands. All in all he had four human sized test dummies. Hermione watched this and figured out what Harry was doing. When he finished she flicked her wand and transfigured the top of each log to be the shape of a head complete with a death eater mask.
"This what you had in mind?" she asked with a grin.
Harry nodded. He was rethinking his idea but knew he needed her approval or he would never be able to use this in battle.
"The spell that sent me to hospital was a kiln spell from the Potters shared knowledge. I've been learning more of it this summer. No. There's no book." Harry said quickly heading off Hermiones thirst for knowledge. "I'm not even sure if I can teach it."
Hermione nodded waiting for Harry to continue.
"Sirius helped me the other day so I could get back on the horse. It worked. Sirius also said that I'm to slow to use this in a battle but if I lost my wand or it was taken away this would be useful."
Hermiones eyes flashed open. "That would give you a great advantage, Harry."
"I want to test it and I need you to see what it would do before I…" Harry stopped.
"It's ok Harry. I think I understand. What do you want me to do?"
"Just watch and be ready with a flame freezing spell in case this gets out of control. I'm getting better but I don't want to start a wild fire."
She watched as Harry pulled in his magic and several seconds later moved his index finger ever so slightly and the fire erupted around the pile they had created. Fascinated she watched as Harry turned both hand in and while they were still twenty centimeters apart he squeezed his hands like he was squeezing a pillow. She looked at the fire to see the dummies fully engulfed in fire and almost totally burnt. It had been less than ten seconds. Harry waved his finger again and the fire went out.
Hermione walked over to the pile of ash that was the human sized dummy made out of wood seconds ago. Hermione had been to a campfire before. That much wood would take at least half an hour on a blazing fire to be reduced to the pile of ash in front of her now.
"Touch it." he said.
She looked confused but held out her hand. Feeling no heat she touched the ash. Still no heat she pushed the ash around and found the same.
"How? That's impossible."
Harry pulled one of the glass roses out of his pocket and handed it to her. Hermione held it gently in her hands and was amazed at the detail and intricate pattern on the leaves and petals.
"It's beautiful. Thank you. But what does this mean?"
"I made this yesterday with Sirius. It was a couple of old bottles and broken glass that were in the trash. Sirius was being funny when he put that in with the logs for the test. After I turned up the heat and all the wood was gone I melted the glass and formed that and a few others. Sirius picked them up about the same timing as when you touched the ashes. They were as you feel them now." Harry explained.
"Oh. That's amazing." she said.
"Yes. It's not that fast but very effective. Imagine if my dad had learned this spell when Voldermort came to get me? If he had time to build his magic as they tore down the wards they would have met a wall of fire. But," Harry stopped.
"But, what would I think if you did that to some death eaters? More to your concern. What would I think of you?" She asked finally getting the implications.
Harry was studying the ground intently. Afraid of what his girlfriend would say next. Hermione stepped in front of Harry and putting her arms around her boyfriend. Whispering in his ear.
"I would think that you did what needed to be done and you saved several if not many lives that they would have taken or ruined if they lived."
Harry looked up and Hermione gave him a searing kiss.
"Harry. We are dealing with animals. I would like to say I'm sorry thinking that way but I'm not. I don't see them as anything different then the blast ended skrewts. An abomination that needs to be put down permanently."
With that Harry gave Hermione a big hug and just held her. It was the first time ever that Hermione was the first to break the hug.
"Did that take much power to do that? It's not like you had to use a long spell or anything." Harry laughed at her barrage of questions.
"To answer your questions in order. Not much. Working the glass yesterday was kind of hard."
"OK. Watch me this time." Harry said.
He floated another log into the pit on top of the pile of ashes. Making sure Hermione was watching him he pulled his magic a little faster this time and flicked his index finger again. By the time she turned her head to look the log was engulfed in flames and in two seconds was reduced to ashes. Harry waved his finger again and the wall of flames were gone. This time the ashes were smoldering white hot. Hermione moved towards the ashes and Harry stopped her.
"I wouldn't if I were you."
Harry levitated an arm sized branch from the wood pile and dropped it onto the pile of burning embers. It burst into flames almost as soon as it landed.
"I left the extra heat this time. Imagine if I were to blow those ashes all over their friends. In the middle of a fight?" Harry said.
It took Hermione a few moments to fully comprehend what Harry was saying and then she started laughing. She continued laughing knowing how morbid this thought was and yet how horrible it would be for them. When she finally got her self together she looked into Harrys emerald eyes.
"That has got to be the most diabolical thing I have ever heard of. I love it. If you ever get the chance do it." she said "I have a feeling a certain marauder will appreciate the irony of the death eaters getting burned with the ashes of one of their own."
With the conformation that he and Hermione were on the same page with his thinking they returned to the house for breakfast.
On their walk back Harry asked Hermione "What would you think about rounding up all the deatheaters including Voldermort and just leaving them in stasis? Maybe in that vault under Gringotts."
Hermione smiled yet another evil smile. "I was going to talk to you about that. When Eliza mentioned that the stasis charm worked totally it got me thinking. That was part of our trip to Gringotts yesterday. The Goblins agree with Eliza and are doing some additional testing. Initially they think we could leave the deatheaters in there for at least one hundred years and they wouldn't age at all. I think it's a perfect plan. I was going to suggest something like that only maybe we can add more people to the list."
"More people?" Harry asked.
"Well. The Ministry is totally corrupt. The Daily Prophet is about the same. From what I read the Wizengamot is worse. Lucias is on the Wizengamot and we are almost certain he is a deatheater. Then what about Snape." Hermione said.
"True but what if we collect someone that isn't corrupt or a deatheater. What if they are just a bigot? How are we going to weed them out?" Harry asked.
Hermione started laughing. She looked at Harry and the puzzled look on his face and laughed even harder. By this time they had entered the kitchen and everyone around the table stopped and watched as Hermione tried to get ahold of her self. Every time she looked at the puzzled expressions on the faces around the table she laughed more. She got a few people to chuckle with her before they turned to Harry.
"'Vat is so funny?" Fleur ventured trying not to get sucked back into a laughing fit with the younger girl.
Harry shrugged. "We were just talking about walleting all the corrupt people in the ministry, the Wizengamot, and deatheaters. I asked how were would weed out the good ones."
Fleur looked at Hermione. She had almost got her laughter down to a giggle when Fleur looked at her and her eyes opened wide. "Non You wouldn't." Hermione nodded and the pair of them descended into fits of laughter.
"OK. You two have 1 minute to pull it together before I send you on a ten kilometer run." Daniel barked like an unhappy drill Sargent.
That did it and within a minute the girls had composed themselves. Danial pointed to Fleur "Explain please." She nodded and refused to let her gaze move from Daniels.
"We can wallet them all. Zen use the truth runes to weed out the bad ones. Maybe start with the department heads and if they are ok get a vow from them and allow zem to interview their employees." She said.
"You know George."
"What is that Fred?"
"It's nice to be here…"
"At the beginning for a change." They high fived each other.
The rest of the table was staring between the three teens slack jawed and in awe. There was also a little fear from the men at the table too.
"I like it." William said.
Daniel and Apolline agreed.
"How shall we do this?" Danial asked.
"I have an idea. But I want to make this a clean sweep." Harry said.
"Going all dark lord on us." Fred said.
"We are totally in." George said both grinning evilly.
Harry frowned at the dark lord but nodded agreement.
"After breakfast we have a little planning. I think with all our input we can have a plan and be ready in less than a week." Harry said.
"How long will the Goblins need for the vault?" Harry asked Fleur.
"They said in three days it will be ready and we can bring in a wallet." Fleur said.
"Hermione can you have a jail cell wallet that is big enough and protected enough ready in four days?" Harry asked.
She nodded and started making notes.
"Great. Let's eat and plan the demise of all the filth in the ministry, Diagon alley, Hogsmeade, and Hogwarts. I want to clean and verify all the wizarding personal in charge of anything more important than a broom." Harry said.
Harry sat down and noticed that Eliza and Sirius weren't at the table. He had been so focused that he hadn't noticed until that point. Then he realized he didn't want to think about it.
Dobby put Harrys breakfast in front of him and had turned to leave. Noticing that it was Dobby Harry turned to him.
"Dobby. How are you? I haven't seen you in a while. Everything ok with you?"
Dobby looked guilty when he turned to look at Harry.
"Dobby is sorry Master Harry Potter Sir. Dobby not there to help yous." The poor elf wouldn't look at Harry in the eyes. Harry could see big tears were rolling down his cheeks. In a whisper Dobby asked. "Master Harry Potter Sir. I knows you don't approve but could yous please allow Dobby to punish hisself for not being there. Not a Master Harry Potter punishment but a real punishment."
This almost broke Harry and Hermione. He understood the elf more in the moment than he had ever realized before.
"Dobby. Look at me." Harry said.
The little elf did but Harry could see the pain behind his big bloodshot eyes.
"Dobby. Is Hermione a strong witch? Is she fast when training? Would she do anything to keep me safe?" Harry asked quietly. Hermione blushed at his praise and thought she knew where he was going with his line of thinking.
"Yes sirs. Mistress Hermy is very strong. I seeing her train and she could beat anyone at school except yous master Harry Potter Sirs."
"Dobby. Did Harry get hurt before you became his elf?" Hermione asked.
Dobby nodded. "I is hearing from old master many times Master Harry Potter Sirs injured. Hogwarts staff thinks hes should have his own room next to Madam Pomfrey. Hes is there so often."
"And I'm a strong witch right?" She asked.
Dobby nodded.
"Then I guess we both should be punished. Because I didn't keep Master Harry Potter Sirs safe either. I must bes bad witch." Hermione said with all the seriousness she could muster.
The group around the table were trying not to laugh but it was getting to that point.
Dobby shook his head so hard his ears almost knocked himself out. "No mistress. Never should you bes punished. Yous tries so hard to keep Master Harry Potter Sirs safe. No one could do better than yous."
"So why should you be punished?" She asked with a biting stare that brought the tiny elf to realize she had just manipulated him. His eyes were wide with realization and then with a resigned sagging of his shoulders he said. "Yous is right mistress. If yous not be blamed then Dobby not be blamed either. I still likes some extra works. Please."
His look was so longing and pleading Harry nodded. "I will think of something you won't like. It won't be too bad but you won't like it. Deal?" Harry said holding out his hand to Dobby.
Dobby looked alarmed for a moment and looking at Hermione saw her shaking her head yes. He nodded and took Harrys hand. "Deal"
"I'm going to finish eating and we all need to talk then I will deal with you." Harry said looking at Dobby sternly. Dobby tried to hide the smile on his face but wasn't successful as he popped away.
The rest of the table started chatting again with normal morning talk. Harry noticed a few looks from some of the table occupants. Hermione and Emma were nodded approvalingly knowing he was helping his friend. Apolline and Fleur were a little wide eyed that Harry would almost threaten the little elf only to realize he was really helping Dobby feel better. The former military men knew what he was doing and approved. Fred and George were shaking their collective heads thinking 'only Harry'.
