The Limits of Psychics in Canon actually make for an interesting character.
The distortion caused by so many drunken students made it hard for Victor to focus. It was a dull roar of depressants and drugs, mixed with horniness and teenage angst. He hated it, it left him struggling to breathe. He had lost Elena who only had eyes for Stefan. He was sort of alone and bored, but that changed when he felt a spike of terror that came from Elena's mind.
Elena was rushing out, with Jeremy holding a barely alive girl. "Somebody help!"
Matt rushed to them, looking at the girl. "Vicki? Vicki, what the hell?!"
Having first aid training, Victor hurried over. "Call an ambulance... I need something to stop the bleeding." He called out and someone handed him a scarf. He put in her bleeding throat, but as he did he saw her memories, her last memories. Flickers of light, an argument with a boy that forced himself on her against a tree, walking into the woods, a man tearing into her throat. It was not Stefan...
It was his brother... and that was terrifying.
'Attacking a girl in the middle of a party, that is bound to draw in some attention. The wrong kind. What do I do now?'
And he knew he had to be careful, less the wrong sort figure out his powers.
However, as he thought of that, he felt a rush of self loathing, despair and hope in Vicki oozing from her every pore. Turning to her, even unconscious he felt it.. and wondered what the hell made her so desperate.
He would end up being so worn out that he could not stay awake when Stefan came over and was invited inside by Elena... the strain of Vicki's agony and desperation taking all of the fight from him, as did Jeremy's constant worrying about Vicki. It was better than any drug, just knocking him out.

As he was getting ready to leave, Victor saw and felt a nervous Jenna looking in the mirror in the hall. " Do I look adult? As in respectfully parental?"
Elena, feeling a rush beyond her past depression, smiled. "Depends on where you're going."
"Jeremy's parent-teacher conference. Hair up or down?" Jenna put her hair up.
"Sexy stewardess." Jenna let it down. "Boozy housewife."
Jenna looked embarrassed. "Up it is. You're feisty today."
"I feel good, which is rare. So I've decided to go with it. Fly free, walk on the sunshine, and all that stuff. Where is Jeremy?"
Jenna smiled as she dolled herself up. "He left early. Something about getting to wood shop early to finish a birdhouse. There is no wood shop, is there?"
Victor shook his head. "He's at the Hospital with Vicki, he was really shaken up when he saw her hurt. I think he really does love her, or rather is obsessed with her." He shrugged, memories from the summer filling him. "She gave him attention when he needed it most, over the summer. I think he is quite attached." With that in mind, he hurried off to school, knowing he would be visiting Stefan later that day.
The ringing of Victor's phone drew his attention as he left the house. "Hello?" he asked.
"Yes, this John, your... new Uncle?"
"Oh, yeah, I met you at the funeral and wake." he thought of the awkward man, who everyone seemed to hate. Victor's own powers were fluctuating at that point, so he had been unable to get a good understanding of John.
"Yeah, I ugh... I wanted to talk to you, see how your migraines were going. My brother said they were really bad."
"They stopped, mostly, when I got adopted. I get some minor headaches but the migraines are gone."
The man went quiet. "That makes me really happy to hear... say, would you be okay meeting up with me, in lets say... an hour, at the Grill. Don't tell anyone, I just need to talk to you."
Suspicious, Victor sighed. 'I'll just read his mind, no point in not meeting up with him... I have a feeling that this will be interesting in any case.'
And off he went, to meet John Gilbert at the Grill, never knowing that it would change everything.
