Past Memories

Having escaped from The Star, Cyrus Kooper and his gang were driving through the streets in their van while knocking a few vampires away.

"That was a close one" Jason said

"Yeah. If you guys hadn't shown up, I would've had my blood drained for sure" Cyrus said as he lifts his goggles up

"Well, vampire attacks aside, the mission was a success" Zeke said as he looks at the sack "Now the resistance will have plenty to eat"

"I can almost taste Martin's soup right about now" Jason said licking his lips "I'll bet it'll have some new flavors with these ingredients"

"I hear ya, pal" Cyrus said "I'm feeling hungry myself"

As the van continues through the streets, Cyrus looked out the window from his seat. He saw some vampires chasing a human man. As they passed by, he also sees another human getting knocked over by two vampires as one of them drained him of his blood which killed him.

"Vampires" Cyrus grumbled "Why do such despicable creatures exist?"

"I know. They're always hunting us humans down and trying to suck our blood" Jason said with a shudder

"This did happened after the Mushroom War started" Zeke pointed out "The human population started to decrease heavily because of them. Though some are able to survive"

"That's true" Cyrus said "Hey Zeke, how much further is it to the Resistance hideout?"

"By my calculations, I would say approximately 160 miles from here" Zeke answered as he typed on his computer

Cyrus nod his head. He then looks out the window. It was then that Cyrus begin to reflect back on some old memories

Flashback

It all goes back to when Cyrus was just a little kid. His parents were among the humans that survived the Mushroom War. Cyrus was born right when the vampires took over the Earth. As the years went by, his mother died of an unknown disease leaving his father to raise Cyrus by himself. Young Cyrus was currently reading a book while sitting on a couch in his house. Just then, his father bursts through the door and quickly shuts the door. He has black hair just like his son and was wearing a black hood, blue jeans, and boots.

"Dad!" Cyrus said as he runs over "What happened?"

"They're coming, son" his father answered as he begin to lock the door

"Who's coming?" Cyrus asked

"Vampires" Mr. Kooper answered as he begins to shut the windows

"You mean the creatures from those stories you told me about? They're actually real?" Cyrus asked shock

"They are. Quickly Cyrus, go up to your room and pack some things. Take as much as you need" his father ordered "After that, we're leaving"

Cyrus obeyed his father and heads upstairs to his room. In his room, Cyrus takes out his blue backpack and begins to pack some things. He packed a book, a flashlight, a pocket knife, and a deck of cards. Cyrus then puts some green gloves on and some black shoes on. He then puts his backpack on and ran back downstairs where his dad was waiting

"Dad, I packed as much stuff as I can bring" Cyrus said

"Good. Now let's..." his father said before a bang from the door interrupted him

"Oh no! They're here!" Mr. Kooper said fearfully

"What do we do?" Cyrus asked

Mr. Kooper reached over and grabs a fire poker as he was near the fireplace

"Cyrus, hide in that closet. I'll hold them off" he ordered as he points to a nearby closet

"Can't I help?" Cyrus asked

"No, son. It's too dangerous. Now get in there" Mr. Kooper said

"But" Cyrus said

"Go!" Mr. Kooper yelled

Cyrus quickly obeyed and raced into said closet. He then shuts the door. No sooner did he do that, the door was broken down and three vampires came in. Mr. Kooper was holding the fire poker in front of him.

"Come and get me you bloodsuckers" he said

The vampires hissed and prepared to attack. One leaped at him, but Mr. Kooper hits him across the face with the poker. The second attempts to jump at him from behind, but he delivers a punch without even looking. Inside the closet, Max couldn't help but worry for his dad. He opens the door a bit to see his dad kick the third vampire. Mr. Kooper then used the fire poker to stab the downed vampires in the heart turning them into dust. Unfortunately, two more vampires broke through the windows and a few more came in. Mr. Kooper continue to battle the vampires. Although he was able stab two vampires in the heart, three vampires pile onto him which makes him drop the fire poker.

"Dad!" Cyrus yelled

The vampires pinned him down, and one prepares to bite him. Seeing the fire poker nearby, Mr. Kooper pushes off and slams the vampires on the ground. He then grabs the fire poker and stabs the downed vampires. He then use the poker to knock the remaining vampire away. But just then several more vampires charged into the house. Mr. Kooper attempts to fight them off, but more vampires came in and pile onto him. He yelled as he fell over. Cyrus gasped as he watched his father get restrained by the vampires. Mr. Kooper struggles to get out of their grip. But then, The Star came in. Cyrus can only watch in horror as she started sucking the soul out of his father. Once that was done, she and her minions begin to bite on every part of his body, draining all of his blood.

"No!" Cyrus yelled with tears in his eyes

But just then one vampire turn to the closet having heard the boy's yell. Knowing that he is spotted, Cyrus close the door

"What is it, minion?" The Star asked

"There's someone in there" the vampire said as he points to the closet

"Well go check it out!" Marceline ordered

'I gotta get out here' Cyrus thought frantically 'But how? The vampires are blocking the exit and I have nothing to defend myself with'

He then noticed a cane with a silver c-shaped hook hanging above him. Outside the vampire open the closet door, Cyrus hits him on the head with the cane as hard as he can. Just as Cyrus came out, he sees The Star and his vampires minions. But what caught his eyes the most was his father's dead corpse. The vampires hissed at him. Knowing that he is vastly outnumbered, Cyrus raced up the stairs. The vampires prepare to chase him, but Marceline stopped them

"No. He's mine" she said as she flew after the boy

Cyrus ran upstairs and down the halls. He then pressed his back against the wall while holding his cane.

"Little boy. Come out and play" The Star said in a sing song voice

Cyrus continued running until he reached his room. He shuts the door and placed a chair in an attempt to block it.

"Okay. I'm trapped in my room and a vampire lady is after me." Cyrus said "What do I do?"

Cyrus looks to the window

"Of course"

Cyrus hears banging against his door. He runs over to the window and opens it. Suddenly, the door was broken down and The Star came in

"There you are" she said

"Aaah!" Cyrus yelled

The Star flew right at him. Thinking quickly, Cyrus leaps out of the window just when The Star nearly grabbed him. Luckily, he fell right into a hedge

"Hmm" Cyrus said

Wasting no time, Cyrus begins to high tail it while carrying his cane. Marceline growled as she watched him run

Present

'That was the worst day of my life' thought Cyrus as tears came out of his eyes 'I lost my father to the hands of those vampires. But mostly to The Star'

He then looks to his crewmates

'But it wasn't all bad. While trying to survive, I've met my lifelong friends and teammates' Cyrus thought as he recalled another memory

Flashback

Young Cyrus was running through the streets. Seeing some vampires nearby, Cyrus hid behind the inside of a ruined building and waited until they walk pass him. Once the coast is clear, Cyrus continue to run through the streets. Ever since he escaped his house, he was trying to stay one step ahead of the vampires and to avoid getting his blood drained. He then heard screaming as he saw two boys being chased by two vampires. Glaring at this, Cyrus decides to help them before noticing a broken pipe nearby. Just as the vampires cornered the two kids, Cyrus sneaked up behind the vampires. He then hits them with his cane knocking them down. He then used the broken pipe to stab both of them in the heart to kill them.

"Thank goodness for those stories that dad told me about" Cyrus said before throwing the pipe away.

"Thanks" the kid with glasses said

"Yeah, we would've been goners." the second kid said

"Don't mention it" Cyrus said "I was just helping out my fellow humans. We are survivors after all"

"No doubt a bout it" the second kid said "You got a name?"

Before Cyrus can answer, the glasses kid interrupted

"Introductions later" he said "We gotta move. There's a 100% chance that more vampires will show up"

"Agreed. Come on" Cyrus said as he begins to move

This surprised the two boys

"You want us to come with you?" the second boy asked

"Hey. We're survivors. We take care of each other" Cyrus answered as he runs off

"He does have a point. Let's go" the glasses kid said as he follows after him

"Wait for me!" the second boy as he chases after them

Cyrus and his new friends continue to run through the streets. He then see something up ahead. He motions his friends to stop and have them hid behind a corner.

"What is it?" the second kid asked

"I see some vampires blocking the path" Cyrus answered as he peeks from the corner

He was indeed right as they're some vampires looking around in the path looking for a meal. The glasses kid also peeked and sees it.

"Hmmm" he thought before seeing a nearby trash can "I got an idea"

The glasses kid grabbed the lid and begins to aim it. In his mind, he begins to calculate the angle on how to hit the vampires

"What are you doing?" Cyrus asked

"Trying to find the right angle to take out these vampires" the smart kid said "Now!"

As he said that, he hurled the trash can lid. It ricochet off the buildings. The vampires watched this in confusion. Then, the lid hits one vampire which bounces off and hit the others, knocking them out

"Wow" Cyrus said impressed

"Mathematical!" the second kid said

"Thank you" the smart kid answered

"How did you do that?" Cyrus asked

"I'm pretty much a genius when it comes learning about this type of math. Not to mention I read a lot about technology and science" the smart kid replied

"That's great. Now let's move before they recover" Cyrus said as they begin to run ahead

After running and hiding from the vampires, Cyrus and his friends were panting as they made a right and walked through the streets.

"Excuse me" the smart kid said to Cyrus "I hate to be the one to tell you this, but we can't keep running out in the streets forever"

"Yeah, my feet is starting to hurt and I feel hungry" the second kid added as he felt his tummy

"You guys are right. We need to find shelter for the time being" Cyrus said

The second kid looked around until he sees a nearby abandoned market

"How about there?" he asked he points

The trio looked to the market

"That looks like a good place to stop for the day" Cyrus said

"Agreed. But we'll need to take precautions if any vampires come here" the smart kid said

The trio made their way inside the market. To make sure that no vampires attempt to get in, they placed some bags filled with garlic by the doorway as it repels vampires. Finding some food in different parts of the market, Cyrus and his new friends sat down and begin to dig in.

"Ah, that hits the spot" the second kid said

"I agree" Cyrus added

"Don't get too comfortable" warned the smart kid "Once we save up our energy, we'll have to keep moving. More vampires could be coming around in a few hours"

"Right. Which means we'll have to keep staying one step ahead of those bloodsuckers. And we'll do that by sticking together" Cyrus said which earns him a nod from his new friends "Oh by the way. We never introduced ourselves did we?"

"Oh yeah" the second kid said before looking at Cyrus "What did you say your name was?"

"It's Cyrus. Cyrus Kooper" Cyrus introduced himself

"Nice to meet you Cyrus. My name is Ezekiel. But you can call me Zeke" Zeke introduced

"And my name is Jason. Good to meet you, Cy. Can I call you that?" Jason asked

"Sure. I don't mind" Cyrus said "And it's also nice to meet you too, Zeke and Jason"

And so, the trio began to laugh as they spend their time together

Present

'And the rest was history. Me and my gang had stuck together over the years. We continued to survive while fighting off some vampires.' thought Cyrus 'I also knew that someday I will have to fight for my fellow humans. My father gave his life to protect me and I will do the same.

Hey Cy" Jason said

Cyrus turn to Jason

"We're here" Jason replied

Cyrus turns to the windshield to see a large red and white building as the drove near it.

And that is the second chapter for this story. As you can see, I based Cyrus' past on Sly's tragic past when he lost his father to the Fiendish Five. The same can be said when Cyrus first met his two friends like how Sly met his two friends in an orphanage. Hope you enjoy!
