"Violet, it will soon be the time of the welcoming banquet." My grandma calls me from upstair .
I am still downstair with mafia boss of dauntless Alexander . We are best friends since the second stage of initiation start. We sit on the rock and we are joking with each other
"Hey , you should go alex . Without you, they are going to be anxious as hell." I roll my eyes
"They can wait Violet ." Alexander giggles . "What job do you want after the welcoming banquet. We have a leadership position opens ."
"It is a surprise . I can't tell you. I am so hungry. I want to have some chocolate cake ." I stand up and start to climb.
Alexander follows me . We reach the ground level . Mark , my initiate instructor is waiting for us
"Did I ever tell you Alex that don't let her down there . She is going to trip and kill herself ." Mark rolls his eyes
"I am with her mark . Don't be this mean." Alexander pats him on his back. "Come to the welcoming banquet now ."
We walk toward the cafeteria . In order for other not thinking too much about me and Alexander , I will go in first. I enter the cafeteria and find my friends are talking in a circle
"Hey guys ." I wave at them
"Hey Violet . Where have you been. Mark was looking for you." Elizabeth raises her eyebrows
"I was walking around . I found a way to go underground ." I shrug . "He was angry with me ."
Elizabeth wraps her arms around william's shoulder . They were dating for so many weeks now
"We find that mark maybe in love with you." Elizabeth laughs so loud
"Shut it. I don't think that he is ." I roll my eyes
"He is for sure. We can see that." Edward sits beside me .
He has a chocolate cake in his plate and I reach for a folk and secretly sneak at his plate .
"Why are you stealing my cake Violet. There are so many of them over there!" He points at a far away counter
"They are too far from me ." I grab his arm . "Please let me have a piece of yours."
"Fine whatever , I will get a new piece for you but don't eat mine when I am gone okay?" Edward surrender .
I wait for my cake . Edward brings back dozen of them and each of us can have a piece of cake to try
"They are the best one in dauntless ." Jenny gives a thumb up.
Alexander now walks on the stage . My grandma and other leaders are standing beside him. He taps his microphone
"So now the welcoming banquet starts . I know that speech is only for erudite so I will make it short. Congratulation of finishing your initiation and welcoming all of our new members of dauntless ." Alexander clears his throat . "So we have the new rules as we indicated at the beginning of the training that only top ten initiates are made members ."
I breath heavily. I know that I will be a member but I am worried about Kennedy. She is the only one from abnegation.
"So here are the ranking of yours ." Alexander claps his hand
The screen lights up and the rank appears on the screen . My name is at the first line . I ranked first as I expected . I sigh with relief . The second one is Joshua . Joshua is Alexander's adopted son .
"Good job Violet ." Joshua wraps his arms around my shoulder . "You are staying ."
"You too." I smile at him
All my friends are staying and Kennedy is surprisingly ranked fifth one . She is crying. I hug her
"You are doing a good job Kennedy . That's celebrate okay? You are dauntless within and without." I laugh.
"I know Violet. Thank you for teaching me how to fight." Kennedy wipes her own tears
"We are friends okay? That's what friends should do ." I brush her hair away. "You are dauntless so don't cry okay?"
She nods at me . Jenny is third and Elizabeth fourth. William and Maria are six and seven respectively. Edward and Jason are eight and nine . Ten is Alex from dauntless
Rest of them are cut and I don't know them at all . Especially Johnson and Jessica who tried to kill Kennedy are out of dauntless.
"Why is Kennedy in? She failed so many time!" Jessica points at Kennedy.
"She is braver than you Jessica . What you had done to her show us that you are a miserable coward ." I grab her collar and push her away. "So now leave the dauntless compound."
"She will pay for this ." Johnson clinches his fist
I laugh so loud . Alexander sighs with disappointment
"Rest of you must leave tonight. You are Factionless by now ." Alexander says
We sit down again. Jason and William are playing card as usual.
"You guys really like to play poker ." I point at their card
"They are fun to play with ." Jason shrugs . "We are so boring right now so why don't spare time with it."
"After you have choosing your job , then you will not actually think it is boring." I fold my arms in front of my chest
I stretch myself . Kennedy is very tired now .
"The fear landscape really exhausted me . I hate to say this ." Kennedy says . "When the job selection will start. I want to go to bed ."
"It will start now . So everyone line up according to your rank. So Violet first and then Mike last." My grandma shouts
I stand up and walk toward my grandma . Mark stands beside her . When we are standing in the line according to other rank, grandma looks at me seriously.
"So now tell me what job do you want." My grandma arches one of her eyebrows at me
"I want ambassador and instructor." I nod at her
"Alright you can train transfer initiate along with mark." Grandma points at mark beside her
I get my room key. I will now sleep above the glass building because I am an ambassador now on.
I sit down on the table again. I am so tired .
"So now we are partner ." Mark smiles at me
"Yeah we are for sure ." I roll my eyes . "I just want to relax a little ."
"Alexander wants to see you and Joshua in his office ." Mark shrugs
Why is he wants to see us so late . Joshua comes back to us
"So now I am one of the leader in training program as well." Joshua shrugs. "I have to be trained for a year before be an actual leader."
"I know that you will be a good leader . You are a natural leader Joshua just like your dad . Your dad wants to see you and Violet in the office ." Mark stands up. "Come with me."
I and joshua follow him. We walk to the third floor and mark presses the button to the elevator .
When the elevator comes to a ding, we pile in. He jammed the 10 th floor button
"Why does my father wants to see us so late?" Joshua raises his eye brows
We reach 10th floor and Alexander is in his office . To me , he always belonged in the training room
"Come in please ." Alexander waves at us
I open the door and go in. I used to go into his office without knocking.
"So sit both of you and mark you can go please . Thank you." Alexander smiles at mark
"My pleasure sir ." Mark leaves the room
"So I want to see you guys because I need suggestion for our training program because Joshua you are a potential delegates for the leadership. So what suggestions that you have for the training?" Alexander bites his lower lips
Joshua's eyes light up. He is awake by the question
"I think that is too brutal. The ranking system let everyone start to kill each other or try to sneak each other out of the dauntless because they want to survive . Our purpose is to protect the city so we should do it together . We can make the team work as a priority not the ranking system." Joshua stops a minute . "We can give them point. If they have enough point, they become members , if they don't, they have to work in the dirty section of dauntless compound so they are still members but not really in the main part of the dauntless ."
"That is a good interpretation, Violet how about you." Alexander looks at me
"I have the same ideas as Joshua . I totally agree with him." I smile at Joshua
He has a good point because the ranking system really reveal the human nature .
"Okay, Joshua you can go. I will think about it. Violet , can you please go administer the aptitude test tomorrow ? Reported to me if you find any result in conclusive ?" Alexander taps something on the screens
"So you want to know who the divergent are ?" I lean against the back of the chair
"Stop saying that word . It is very dangerous Violet." Alexander covers my mouth immediately. "Remember never say that word okay?"
I nod at him. Divergent is dangerous and I have been warned before by my instructor and the woman who ran my aptitude test from abnegation.
"Sure sir , I will do this ." I smile at him
"If you find them, please deleted their footage and verbally reported their result okay? Don't left any evidences." Alexander sighs . "Good night Violet ."
So Alexander actually wants to protect them not destroying them but who wants to hurt them then ?
I walk out of the office . Mark is standing there leaning against the wall
"Why are you here still?"I am startle by him
"I am just waiting for you. I have something to tell you." Mark grabs my arm and drags me away. "You can't trust Alexander."
"Why I can't trust my boss ." I pull my hand back from him
"He is dangerous . He is working with erudite to kill divergent." Mark says
I don't believe him. Alexander wants to protect the divergent.
"No you are wrong. He is protecting them. He is the one who delete all my footage ."
