Note: Here we are at the 6th anniversary of New Justice! It seems weird that New Justice is 6 years old. I still remember writing the last anniversary like it was yesterday, and I still think of it as my new Earth sometimes. Anyway, here is a special chapter in honor of the big day.
Here Rae Goes Again: A New Justice Anniversary
-Day One-
Rae tossed the knife in the air before catching it with speed, much to Leona's enjoyment. She was chopping vegetables with speed as Leona cheered.
"Breakfast Omelets?" Chris said, taking a seat. "Nice. I've got a busy day."
"What are you doing?" Rae asked.
"Lois wants me to come into the office. She likes my food articles but wants to know if I want to try something else. Personally, I prefer writing food, but I guess I will give something else a try," Chris explained, taking one of the omelets and then taking a bite. "Hot! Hot! Spicy!"
"The fact you can't handle heat is hilarious," Rae said, shaking her head as Chris went to grab the gallon of milk and started chugging it. "And that's what you get for taking the omelet I made for Kara without asking what's in it."
"And I like spicy," Kara said, appearing in the kitchen, taking the rest of the omelet. "You know, you have never made Indian food."
"That's hard to get authentic. Maybe I'll learn someday," Rae said with smile as she went to go give Leona the scrambled eggs with a little Kryptonian cheese – made from the equivalent of Kryptonian cow's milk.
That was when they heard a loud bang, the three going to the hall to see Courtney on the floor.
"What happened, Stargirl?" Rae asked, joking around with the teen as she helped Courtney up.
"Tripped down the stairs," Courtney said, accepting the hand Rae gave her. "Thanks, Rae."
"Not a problem, come eat," Rae said, putting an arm around Courtney as they went back into the kitchen. Leona had already finished her food as Rae kissed her and continued cooking, getting food down for everyone – including a non-spicy omelet for Chris.
"Thanks Rae, I'm going to head to Metropolis," Chris said, rushing out after he ate.
"And I'm taking Leona to my grandparents," Rae said she picked her daughter up.
"Tell Richard and Emily I said hello," Kara called out, having known Rae was planning on seeing her grandparents that day with Leona.
"Will do," Rae said giving a smile. "Maybe you could take Courtney to train? Supergirl and Stargirl would be an interesting mashup."
"Can we?" Courtney asked, turning to Kara.
"I have a meeting this afternoon, but I've got some free time this morning. Sure," Kara said as Rae summoned her outfit and one for Leona, then ran out with Clarky following.
-New Justice-
When Rae had arrived, her grandparents had been waiting for her; now Rae was sitting in the living room while Leona was in the playpen her grandparents had for their great-granddaughter. Clarky was in the playpen playing with Leona.
"My friends loved the meal you cooked them," Emily was telling Rae. "They keep telling me what a great granddaughter I have."
"Thank you," Rae smiled, knowing status mattered to her grandmother and being able to brag about her granddaughter recently had been something she loved. Rae was happy to let her grandmother brag about her.
"Rae, the annual father-daughter golf tournament is going to be happening again," Richard spoke, coming in from his office. "You've improved a lot. I think we have a shot."
"Give me the date. I'll make sure that that's Leona day with Kara," Rae said.
"Mama!" Leona yelled out at that, tossing a toy at Rae which she caught.
"Maybe we should get some practice in on some trickier courses," Richard mused.
"Ah, you want to use my Flash powers," Rae said, giving a smirk and a wink. "What courses are you thinking?" Richard started to explain what courses he wanted to go and Rae listened.
-New Justice-
It was later in the afternoon when Rae got an emergency call to head to Justice Hospital. Sara, Selina, and Derek were there. She had left Leona and Clarky with her grandparents. Clarky too, to counteract any powers Leona might use that her grandparents couldn't keep up with.
"What's happened?" Rae asked.
"We were tracking some of the Wonderland Gang," Selina was the one who answered. "And they surprised us. One of the thugs got the upper hand on Tommy. Caitlin's with him now. They've been in there for a while."
"Hey, Wild Fire is the best," Rae said to comfort Sara who gave a nod. "He'll be fine."
Rae waited with them until Caitlin came out, which was only a minute or two later, thankfully.
"I got him stabilized," Caitlin said. "But it was a close call. I don't know how well he will recover. It's just waiting and seeing."
"Can I go see him?" Sara asked.
"Yes," Caitlin said, and Sara moved into the room. "Rae… I don't know if he will ever be Black Arrow again," Caitlin muttered to Rae, who was stunned for a moment but gave a sad nod. This felt like Dinah all over all.
Rae's communicator binged again.
"Flash, there's a power build up at Mercury Labs," it was Winn who spoke over coms. "Has a weird signature to it."
"I'll go check it out. Chances are it's just an overzealous scientist, but if it's not I could use someone to punch," Rae said and opened a zap tunnel to Central-National.
-New Justice-
Heading to Mercury Labs, it wasn't hard to find where the power build up was coming from as people were running from a lab – except for one guy who was near a machine.
"Hey! What's going on?" Rae asked, seeing the man's ID and knew his name was Hartley Rathaway.
"Flash!" Hartley said, turning to the hero. "First test run. The power is building up, but…. I don't know what's going on."
"Well turn it off," Rae said, getting up and putting a hand on the machine.
"What's do you think I am trying," Hartley said. "I don't…"
Before he finished his sentence there was a bright light blinding Rae….
-Day 2-
The knife dropped to the counter as Rae paused.
"What?" Rae mumbled. She was back in her kitchen with Leona in her highchair.
"Nice one," it was Chris coming up as he laughed. "But breakfast omelets? Nice. I have a busy day."
"What?" Rae asked.
"Lois wants me to come into the office. She likes my food articles but wants to know if I want to try something else. Personally, I prefer writing food, but I guess I will give something else a try," Chris said taking one of the omelets and then taking a bite. "Hot! Hot! Spicy."
Rae blinked as she watched Chris go for the milk again. "Why is this spicy?" Chris complained now, without Rae saying anything. Rae too stunned to do anything but stare.
"Because it was mine," Kara said, coming in. "You know I like spicy. You know you never have made Indian food, Rae."
"Um… wait… Didn't we do this?" Rae asked, confusing the two of them. "I was… um…." Rae didn't finish her sentence as there was a loud bang and Kara and Chris went to see what had happened. "Courtney fell down the stairs…" Rae sighed to the only person left, which was Leona. Clarky, who was by the door, looked up.
The three walked back in, laughing now. Courtney looked a little embarrassed. "Rae, Stargirl here fell down the stairs," Kara said, patting Courtney on the back. This was different as Rae hadn't gone to see what had happened this time.
"I tripped," Courtney said. "Hey, can I get an omelet?"
"Yeah," Rae said making the exact same omelet for Courtney she had before.
"Rae, are you okay?" Kara asked, obviously able to feel her confused emotions as Rae cooked all the omelets she had before.
"I'm… not sure," Rae said eating her own food now. "I think I am going to my grandparents today, right?"
"Urm yeah, it's been planned for a while," Kara said, frowning.
"Of course. Come on, Leona," Rae said picking up Leona and running out with Clarky following.
-New Justice-
From the minute she arrived at her grandparents everything was the same as she remembered. From Emily talking about her friends to Richard wanting to get practice on trickier courses – even the courses he picked were the same ones.
Rae looked at the time, remembering Tommy's injury and Caitlin saying he would never be Black Arrow again. She had time to get to Gotham.
"I need to get to Gotham. Do you two think you can handle Leona without Clarky?" Rae asked.
"Yes," Emily said. "But why…." Emily didn't finish her sentence as Rae had summoned her outfit and got Clarky into his before running out.
"That's our granddaughter. Fast like always," Richard said with a chuckle as he went to go pick up Leona.
-New Justice-
Rae had asked the nerds to direct her to where the Gotham heroes were – she arrived just in time to see a thug in a rabbit mask getting behind Tommy with an unusual knife. Rae punched the thug and slammed him to the floor before the four Gotham heroes realized what had happened; Clarky jumped into action, helping the other three heroes take out the rest of the gang members easily due to his Kryptonian powers.
"Nice one, Flash," Tommy said, seeming stunned to see the leader of the Justice League standing behind him. "And thanks…" he added, seeing the thugs had been taken out.
"Why are you here?" Sara asked, seeming confused as well but also thankful Rae had just saved her husband.
"Watch your back, Black Arrow," Rae said as he handed him the knife that had been in the thug's hand, relieved that she didn't need to see Sara upset again. "Now if you excuse me I have to go kill a nerd."
"What…?" Selina started, but Rae and Clarky were gone. "What nerd does she have to kill?"
"I don't know, Atom, Stopwatch, Angel did any of you three piss off the Flash?" Sara asked into the coms.
"Not us," the three responded as one leaving everyone confused.
"Rafe, maybe?" Sara mused of their Friend of the League Nerd.
"He's been too busy to piss off the Flash," Jess spoke into the coms, leaving the group wondering.
-New Justice-
Rae came into Mercury Labs with Clarky by her side this time and into the same lab she had encountered Hartley Rathaway.
"Flash Pup, guard the door," Rae said and Clarky took a stance by the door.
"Well, you're early and have your dog so I am assuming you're like me," Hartley said. He was by the same machine as last time. "Re-living the day..."
"Explain," Rae said, moving over and moving the scientist away from the machine.
"I was working on a time travel project," Hartley said.
"Oh, I really do have to kill you," Rae groaned, and Hartley took a step back. "Why the hell would you mess with time?! Trust me, nothing good happens from that."
"Well… my boyfriend died," Hartley said.
"I'm sorry," Rae remarked, giving the man a slow nod. "I know what's that like, but time travel is not the answer. I once accidentally brought back my old League – all of them alive – but the world that came from it was hell; there are so many ripples when you mess with time. It's not worth it. You just must mourn and move on and form something hopefully better."
"You have a lot of wisdom for someone your age," Hartley said, hearing the Flash's words.
"So, shut the machine off," Rae said.
"I've been trying," Hartley sighed stunning Rae. "Something's wrong with it. I can't shut it off and it's counting down. At the exact same time as yesterday… well, today… the former today…. It will do the time loop again and me and you are connected to it so we will re-live the day again in," Hartley looked down at his watch, "little over an hour."
"Okay," Rae said, thinking up a plan in a second. "We need to break the loop. Well luckily, I can actually time travel. I'll time travel going forward to pass the time loop. With me going forward when this goes back, hopefully it will break the time travel and turn everything off."
"Will that work?" Hartley asked.
"I don't know. I have never done this before," Rae reasoned.
"Second question," Hartley said. "You can time travel?"
"That question gets old," Rae said, dismissing him. "Flash Pup, remain here until I return. No one in, no one out." Clarky barked as Rae straightened her helmet and started to run.
"Wait, no one out? But I need to pee!" Hartley called, but Clarky gave him a growl and lit up his eyes. "I can hold it…" Clarky eyes lowered as he gave a bark as if saying 'good boy' to the scientist.
…
Rae ran fast to start time traveling forward. She concentrated, wanting to break through a minute after the loop would start in the lab, but when she got to get to that time it felt like she hit into a solid wall and got flung back and hit into a wall in the lab.
"Hello again. I guess that didn't work," Hartley said as Clarky came over to lick her. For her it had been a few seconds, but for Hartley and Clarky it had been an hour – or just under.
"Obviously," Rae moaned, sitting up.
"Well, we're out of time as we–" Hartley didn't finish his sentence as there was a bright white light and suddenly…
-Day 3-
Rae was a little more prepared this time as she managed to grab the knife as it fell.
"Nice. Breakfast omelets?" Chris said coming into the kitchen. "I have a…"
"Busy day," Rae completed, grabbing the spicy omelet away from him before he could take a bite.
"What…?" Chis began.
"Watching you burn your mouth twice was enough for me," Rae sighed.
"Again: What?" Chris asked.
"This is Kara's omelet. I made it spicy because she likes spice. I'll make you a different one if you wait a moment. You don't have to grab the first one you see, and you have time before you go to meet Lois in Metropolis," Rae said quickly, putting the omelet away from Chris as Kara came in. "And no, I haven't ever made Indian food," she added.
"How did you know I was going to say that?" Kara asked, confused.
"Not important. I need you to take Leona," Rae said.
"I thought you were taking her to your grandfather's," Kara said.
"I was… Hold on a second," Rae said, running into the hall and catching Courtney before she hit the bottom of the stairs, much to the girl's surprise. "Watch your step, Stargirl." Rae said, helping Courtney up.
"Um… thanks?" Courtney said as Rae ran back into the kitchen to make the other omelets. "Now, I was going to go to my grandparents, but something's come up. Can you call them and tell them I will see them tomorrow… hopefully? Oh, and tell grandpa I would love to go practice on trickier courses to prepare for the father-daughter golf tournament."
"Huh?" Kara asked as Courtney, Chris, and Kara herself looked at each other, confused. Clarky even gave a confused bark
"Just do it. Oh, Courtney this afternoon, please go to Gotham and stop a rabbit thug from nearly killing Tommy," Rae said.
"What?" Courtney asked.
"Do you really need an explanation for me telling you to go out as Stargirl?" Rae asked as she started putting the omelets in front of who they were meant for.
"Good point. No," Courtney said after a moment of thinking about it.
"Good. That should be around 3:30. Do not be late," Rae said. "I have until about 5 to fix this so a little over 8 hours. Time to go collect the nerds. MIA, where are the nerds?"
"Watchtower," the A.I. answered her question at that.
"Good, Clarky come." Rae had summoned her outfit and put Clarky outfit on the dog, and the two ran out.
"That was weird right?" Courtney asked. "I mean, weirder than normal for her."
"Yes," Kara and Chris answered together.
"Okay good, I'm sometimes not sure what's weird on this world or not," Courtney said as she went to start to eat.
-New Justice-
Rae and Clarky sped into Watchtower to find the three nerds playing video games; Mon and Nora were there along with Mon and Winn's adopted kids, the teenager Dougie and the baby, Susan. "I wonder if my powers work with videogames," Dougie said.
"Something we need to try," Winn mused.
"MIA, shut off the videogames," Rae said, and the screen turned off.
"Hey!" All three nerds shouted together, turning towards Rae as Clarky gave them a little growl. "We were having a tournament."
"This is what you all do on this day?" Rae asked, rolling her eyes. "Nerds, suit up, we're going to Mercury Labs."
"Why?" Jess asked, making a face – STAR and Mercury were in competition with each other.
"A scientist has made a time travel machine that seems to be making both me and him re-live the day. He can't turn it off so I am attacking this with my geniuses," Rae said.
"We're in Groundhog's Day," all three said together.
"What?" Rae asked. "Wasn't Groundhog's Day in like March or February."
"No, not that it's Groundhog's Day… the movie," Winn said, and Rae raised an eyebrow. "You've never seen it? Okay, we need…"
"Boys, maybe go with Rae," Nora spoke up, seeing the look on Rae's face. "And talk movies later."
"Thank you, Dark Witch," Rae said. "Move it, nerds." That got the three to jump up and get their hero outfits on and a zap tunnel – running.
"And me and Dougie can play," Mon smirked, giving his adopted son a smile, and passed Susan over to Nora, who gladly took the baby.
-New Justice-
It seemed Hartley was waiting for Rae when she appeared in the same lab with Clarky.
"Hi Flash," Hartley sighed as Rae paused. "Can we have a rule on the no-one in and no-one out thing? Cause I really had to pee yester… well the former today… there got to be a better word for this. The point is, your dog wouldn't let me out."
"Good boy Flash Pup," Rae said and Clarky gave a happy bark, even if he didn't know what he was being praised for. "But I brought you some help. If they would get…"
"Here!" This was Adam, growing to his normal size. "Angel and Stopwatch should be here in a moment…" Jess was the first walking in, but Winn took some time. "Kind of slow there buddy."
"I had to fight with the director of Mercury Labs to park my bike," Winn explained.
"Yeah, he's kind of an ass," Hartley said.
"You four, start. I am going to go get Premo and DJ Smoak as well," Rae said, having thought about Rafe for a moment but deciding against it. "Flash Pup, guard the door. No one in, no one out," Clarky gave an affirmative bark as Rae ran off.
"Seriously?!" Hartley yelled as the wind from Rae running off blew some paper. "She did that command on purpose…"
-New Jutice-
Frankie was at the Central-National Police Station getting his payment for a recent bounty he and Gypsy had brought in a while ago. Just as he took hold of the check though was when the speed trail grabbed him, and he was rushed out. Luckily, Frankie was used to this; Rae having done it a lot when they were dating – and even after.
He was dropped off in a lab with Adam, Winn, Jess, and a scientist he didn't recognize.
"What's going on this time?" Frankie asked, giving Clarky a nod as well.
"Groundhog's Day," the three Justice League nerds said together.
"Damn, I never showed Rae that movie," Frankie said, knowing most of Rae's pop culture knowledge came from him.
"We really wish you had," Jess moaned now.
…
Felicity Smoak was getting her DJ equipment together when she was shocked by the speed trail and someone grabbing her. When they stopped, she was in a lab and her shirt was on fire.
"Oh sorry," Rae said, using her arms to blow out the flames.
"I have a gig, Flash," Felicity said.
"It's more important to get out of this time reset," Rae countered.
"Traditionally, called a time loop," Jess spoke up.
"We're trying to figure out how to shut off this machine so Flash and Hartley can stop re-living this day," Winn pointed out.
"Okay, yeah, that sounds important," Felicity agreed, and joined the others as Hartley gave an explanation on the controls to his machine.
Rae said on a chair petting Clarky as she watched all the nerds work. Unfortunately for her, the lab had a TV and between all five of the nerds they had every streaming service possible. They put on Groundhog's Days while they worked, a Star Trek time loop episode, and even a Stargate SG1 episode – the last one Rae thought was the closest to their situation.
Rae started getting worried as the hours ticked by and the device was still on. Despite the nerds' programs and Felicity's hacking skills, nothing seemed to turn it off. The only good news Rae got was when Courtney called in to say she saved Tommy from being stabbed.
"This is two pieces," Felicity spoke up after a while, moving a smaller piece away from trying to turn it off and deciding to get a better idea of the machine.
"That's the actual time machine," Hartley said of the smaller piece; Rae thought it looked like a box on wheels. She could probably push it easily and run fast. "The bigger machine is just the control."
"There's the weird energy readings," Adam said, looking at a device on his arm. "What is powering this?"
Hartley moved a panel on the machine's device and showed a strange, almost glowing ball in the middle connected to everything.
"What is that?" Frankie asked, bending down. All the nerds moved to look at it, Rae moving forward too.
"An alien power source Mercury lab bought off a salvage from some ship the Justice League stopped in some invasion years ago. The details weren't exact. The lab was studying it for years until I had the idea to use it in this machine. It was the only thing that made the time energy work," Hartley said.
"Wait a second," Rae said. "This machine includes alien technology and only now you're telling us."
"That… was an oversight." Hartley agreed with a nod.
"Calm down everyone. Let's just take it out," Winn said, putting his hand into the machine.
"Wait, don't…!" Hartley yelled but was too slow as Winn put his hand inside and suddenly screamed, taking it out. His hand was now gone – vaporized – and Winn was crying in pain. "Yeah, now that it's on it's extremely dangerous."
"My hand!" Winn moaned.
"Oh, don't worry Winn, you'll be fine in like 20ish minutes," Rae sighed, slightly grossed out by Winn losing his hand. "We're not going to do anything now. I'm going to wait for the next go around. Luckily, only Hartley and I should remember this…"
"Luckily?" Hartley countered, looking grossed out at Winn's stump which Felicity was already tending to.
-Day 4-
Rae caught the knife again and put it down.
"Not for you," Rae said before Chris could even talk as she took the spicy omelet away from him. "Kara's spicy omelet. No, I do not know how to cook Indian." Rae added as Kara entered the room, Rae ran past her to get her laptop.
"Are you going to cook one for me?" Chris asked as Rae returned and turned on her laptop. "I have a…"
"Busy day with Lois. Eat toast this time," Rae said, a little disgusted with omelets now. "Oh Clarky!" Clarky gave a bark. "Go stop Courtney from falling down the stairs…" Clarky gave a confused head tilt but ran out of the room.
"Are you okay, Rae?" Kara asked, having taken her omelet. "Your emotions are…."
"In minute sweetie," Rae said as she typed. "There we go. Blocked the nerds from playing video games in Watchtower for the day."
"Why?" Kara asked; they both knew the nerds tended to play videogames every once in a while, and never really cared.
"Revenge for making me watch all those movies and TV shows with time loop episodes," Rae said as Clarky brought Courtney in.
"Clarky, just stopped me from falling down the stairs. He's such a good boy," Courtney said, making both Chris and Kara look at Rae.
"Okay, here is the deal. We're in a time loop," Rae said.
"Like that thing with Savitar?" Kara asked.
"No, that was an infinite loop of causality. Things had to play out the way they were going to. No, this is re-living a day. Me and the scientist who made the machine keep re-living this day repeatedly," Rae said.
"Groundhog's Day," Courtney, Kara, and Chris all said together.
"Has everyone seen this movie?" Rae asked. "You know, what never mind." Rae stopped them from answering. "Yesterday, well the former today… maybe Hartley is right; we need to find a better name for that. Well, I got the nerds to go over the machine and they failed. Turns out there is alien technology in the mix so now I am turning to my aliens. MIA, tell Valor to meet us at Mercury Labs. Kara, you're coming too, Chris, you know what, cancel with Lois and come as well. Apparently, this tech came from a ship the Justice League stopped in some invasion. Could have been the old League. Maybe something of Clark – stop barking every time we say Clark…" Rae turned to Clarky at that.
"Not a problem, but really Rae?" Chris asked, having made himself toast.
"Oh fine, another omelet," Rae said, now kissing Leona head.
"I guess I am watching Leona," Courtney spoke up.
"No," Rae said as she made the normal omelets she had made 3 times already. Rae smiling at her daughter. "I'll bring her to my grandparents and have them watch her. Also tell grandpa I would love to go play at the tricky courses. At 3:30 I need you to be Stargirl and stop a rabbit thug from nearly killing Tommy."
"What?" Courtney asked, and Rae sighed. "Oh, right re-living the day. Sure, will do."
-New Justice-
After dropping Leona and Clarky off at her grandparents, Rae met Kara, Chris, and Mon outside Mercury Labs.
"Winn's upset about the videogames," Mon stated, Kara had Krypto and Dragon with her.
"Well he can mellow it out one day. At least he can keep his hand this time. Come on inside," Rae said, bringing them to the now familiar lab where Hartley was waiting.
"Supergirl, Superboy, Valor, and two Kryptonian dogs?" Hartley said. "Going for an alien theme this time Flash?"
"Show them," Rae said. "Superdogs, guard the door, no one in or out without my say so." The two dos gave a bark as they went to the door.
Hartley now went to the smaller machine, opening the side to show the alien device within.
"Wow," Mon said as the three looked at it. "Have you tried removing…?" Mon now addressed Hartley, about to put his hand inside the machine.
"No touching!" Rae said, slapping his hand lightly. "Stopwatch ended up with one hand last time," Mon paused at the explanation of his husband becoming one-handed from Rae's remark earlier. "And judging from the readings my googles are giving, I don't think even Kryptonians and Daxamites would be able to handle it."
"The markings on it are familiar," Chris mused.
"To me too," Mon said with a nod. "We can look over Justice League files. Go over any invasion notes."
"Boys, you can do that," Kara said taking photos with her phone. "I am going to go to the Fortress. Maybe it can identify the alien species and have a way to shut this device off."
"That is the thinking I like," Rae said. "Let's get it done."
At that, Kara was flying out after the window while Mon was setting up his laptop so the three could search records.
…
"There are way too many alien invasions we have defeated," Chris said after a few minutes.
"Yeah, well every alien seemed to think Earth was an easy target for a while until the Justice League kept knocking them out," Rae remarked. "Now that we have a reputation for not being an easy target it's lessened."
"The point being, this is a needle in a haystack," Chris said.
"Especially since Hartley here can't tell us when Mercury Labs got this alien device or knows who would know," Mon said, turning to Hartley.
"My bosses weren't here when we got that device and our systems have been compromised since," Hartley said with a shrug. At that moment, Kara flew back into the laboratory.
"The Fortress finally found the aliens," Kara said.
"And Supergirl to the rescue with not that much time left," Rae said, looking at her watch.
"Unfortunately, we don't have much information," Kara said. "There were minor contact between Krypton and this species called the Kivraid. Krypton tried to make a trade agreement but found them to be too violent. We had to push them back after the trade agreement broke apart. Their technology was described as powerful, but nothing else," she showed Rae the information she had taken from the Fortress.
"Damn. Well, it seems the alien route failed," Rae sighed. "Next go around, I suppose."
"What the plan for next go around," Hartley asked.
"I'll figure it out," Rae said deciding to give up on finding out when the invasion happened and wait for the next time.
"We are a team now, whether you like it or not Flash, it would be nice…" but before Hartley could finish his complaint, there was the familiar flash of white light and Rae knew she would be back in her kitchen again…
-Day 5-
Rae was starting to wish she hadn't decided to throw this knife in the air. It was getting tiring catching it every day during the reset.
"Breakfast Omelets. Nice, I have…." Chris stopped when Rae slammed the knife down on the table in front of his hand, Chris backing up.
"Spicy omelet," Rae said, grabbing it to Leona amusement, laughing at Chris expression.
"Okay," Chris said. "Um, thanks, I guess… I can't handle anything too spicy."
"But I love spice," Kara said. "You know you never made…"
"Indian food, I know," Rae said, having given Leona her breakfast but then turning off the oven. "Clarky, go stop Courtney from falling down the stairs," Clarky gave a bark and then went into the hall.
"Falling down the stairs?" Kara asked. "I don't think Stargirl, our gymnast, will fall down the stairs."
"I'd say do you want to bet, but it would be easy money," Rae sighed.
"Hey, are you making me an omelet?" Chris asked.
"Have toast," Rae repeated her line from the day prior as Clarky came in with Courtney.
"Clarky, just saved me from falling down the stairs. He's…" Courtney started.
"A good boy. Yes, we know," Rae said seeing the confused look from her wife and Chris. "Courtney, 3:30, go to Gotham and stop the rabbit thug from nearly killing Tommy."
"What?" Courtney asked.
"It's Groundhog Day," Rae sighed.
"Wasn't that in like February or March?" Chris asked after a moment.
"Now you of all people don't get the reference?" Rae asked, shocked at that.
"I think she means she's re-living the day," Kara stated, realizing what was happening, and the other two got it at that.
"Thank you, sweetie," Rae said, wondering if their bond helped Kara get it. "Now Courtney, go and save Tommy. Flash Pup, you're with me. Kara, take Leona and call my grandparents. Let them know I will see them tomorrow and tell grandpa I would love to go practice on tricky courses with him."
"Okay," Kara said. "Hey, why don't you just warn Tommy instead of sending Courtney to save him?"
"Because it's not worth explaining this again when Courtney has saved him so well the last two times," Rae said, and Courtney gave a smile at that. "Now I need Dark Witch…" Rae was in her Speed Force outfit in a second and had Clarky in his and they both were out, this time deciding magic might be the way forward on resetting the day.
"She's really not making me an omelet," Chris said giving a pout.
-New Justice-
Rae arrived at Watchtower, not surprised to see the nerds playing their videogames with Nora, Mon, and Dougie watching; Mon was holding Susan.
"Dark Witch," Rae said making Nora turn. "You're with me."
"Okay," Nora said, not questioning it and getting on her outfit with a spell.
"Thank you for not asking questions," Rae said as she opened a zap tunnel to Central-National.
"Wonder what that was about?" Adam asked when they were gone.
"Pay more attention to the game," Winn said as he killed Adam's character and Dougie cheered for his adoptive father.
…..
"What exactly is Dark Witch going to do?" Hartley asked as Rae showed up with Nora and Clarky. Rae gave the dog her usual order of 'no one in or out', something Hartley had decided not to argue with.
"Well, we tried my traveling forward to break it, we tried my science nerds and aliens, now we're trying magic," Rae said.
"I think I need a little more explanation," Nora spoke up.
"We're living the movie Groundhog's Day," Rae said.
"The one where he's re-living the day over and over? Right. Got it," Nora said. "How long do we have before the day resets?'
"Until around 5pm," Rae said. "You have some time travel knowledge, right?"
"Yes, I've learned spells to time travel myself," Nora said. "You said you tried time traveling forward to break the loop?"
"Yes," Rae said. "It didn't work."
"It's not a bad idea, but maybe you alone were just too small. Maybe we need to bring the entire Earth accelerating into the next day," Nora said.
"You can do that?" Rae asked.
"With some very rare ingredients, a special Totem on Themyscira that enhances magical powers, and a little time. Yes, I think I can," Nora said.
"Wonder Girl," Rae said, taking out her communicator. "Get to Themyscira and get Dark Witch a Totem there that enhances magical powers."
"Now?" Donna's voice said back.
"Yes now – and as fast as you can," Rae said. "Dark Witch, give me a list of everything else you need. I'll run to China if I must to get it. Get the nerds on finding the list and directing me." Nora gave a nod as she made out a quick list and Rae started running.
-New Justice-
It was less than an hour away from the reset in which Nora had got everything she needed. Wearing the Totem – a simple necklace with a greenish gem – and mixing the ingredients, she had one of Constantine's old books out and then she started chanting in Latin. Her hands and eyes glowing – and pot glowing, too.
That's when Rae felt it – the entire Earth seemed like it moved faster for a moment and then it stopped, as if it hit a wall. Nora was exhausted at this, and Rae looked at her watch.
"Damn, it didn't work," Rae said, knowing that Nora's spells had been countered and stopped by the time traveling device. "Another one failed..." Rae mumbled, right before the reset.
-Day 6-
Rae caught the knife and slammed it down, this time not stopping Chris as he ate the spicy omelet, barely listening to him as he yelled: "Hot! Hot! Spicy!" Chris grabbing the gallon of milk. "Why is this spicy…?"
"I am guessing that one was mine," Kara said. "And I like spicy. You know you have never…."
"Indian food, yeah, yeah, yeah," Rae said, shaking her head and running up the stairs and grabbing Courtney before she could even reach the steps and bringing her to the kitchen.
"Um… why did you do that?" Courtney asked.
"I am tired of you falling down those stairs," Rae said, getting use to the weird looks the three gave her.
"I'm Stargirl and a gymnast. I wasn't going to fall down the stairs," Courtney pointed out.
"You already have five times," Rae said. "Or was it six? I'm starting to lose count. Now get your Staff, get your outfit on. We're going."
"Where? What? Why?" Courtney asked.
"What is it with you on this day questioning me on allowing you to be Stargirl," Rae said. "Get on your outfit."
"Are you going to make me an omelet?" Chris asked.
"Cook it yourself," Rae snapped, but kissed Leona as Courtney got her outfit and staff. "Kara, at 3:30 you need to go to Gotham and stop the rabbit thug from nearly killing Tommy."
"I have a meeting," Kara said.
"Please Kara, just do it," Rae said, sick of explaining the time loop.
"Okay," Kara said, getting from the bond how stressed out her wife was. She decided not to question it as Courtney came back.
"Clarky, come with me," Rae said, grabbing Courtney as she ran and Clarky came running back.
….
"Stargirl now?" Hartley questioned as the trio came in and Rae gave her order of 'no one in and no one out', almost sick of giving this order too. "What's the plan this time to shut it off?"
"Oh, I am done with that; we're destroying it," Rae said, moving the smaller piece away from the controls and opening the panel to reveal the alien device.
"What? I don't know if…" Hartley said.
"Shut up," Rae said pointing at him and the authority in her voice did shut the man up. "Stargirl, aim at the device."
Courtney, who didn't know what was going on, shrugged and held the Staff out, pointing it at the device and shooting the power at the device. When it died down, the device was unscratched, though.
"Flash Pup, heat vision at the same time," Rae decided, and her dog obeyed and they did it again; once again, when both were done not even a scratch. "Lightning bolt, staff, and heat vision. Lightning will go first," Rae decided, getting really frustrated now as she ran, getting the lightning out a second before Courtney and Clarky hit it with their powers.
Once again, nothing happened.
"How did the League destroy this ship?" Rae moaned.
"An entire ship might not be as protected as one part," Hartley said with a smirk.
"What was this all about?" Courtney asked.
"You tell her. It won't matter soon anyway," Rae sighed, glaring at Hartley. She figured the next go-around would be her chance to try something else.
-Day 7-
After dealing with the knife, the omelets, Courtney falling down the stairs and then getting Courtney to go save Tommy, Rae went to find the Aquas who were in their home in Central-National.
"What are you doing?" Rae asked, seeing the two were looking at places in different cities on their computer.
"Well Metropolis has Superboy now and they prefer him," Selena said. "And my job has asked me to transfer to Florida to an aquarium there. Kal'dur can work anywhere, so we're moving."
"Well, put this on hold. Get your Trident and come with me to Mercury Labs," Rae said.
"Something wrong?" Kal'dur, also known as Aqualad, asked.
"Yes," Rae said.
"We'll be there in a minute," Kal'dur said.
"Thank you, old friend," Rae said as the two aquas got changed and went with Rae.
…
Once at Mercury labs, Selena tried to use her Trident's electricity to blow up the alien device as Aqualad was using water to enhance the destruction.
"So, the Cosmic Staff didn't work, and this is what you went to…?" Hartley asked.
"You got us into this mess! I am trying to get us out and you have been less than helpful," Rae said as Selena tossed her Trident at it in frustration, the device vaporizing the top of the device like it once did with Winn's hand. "Yeah, that does it," Rae sighed.
"My trident…" Selena moaned.
"Don't worry once the day resets everything will be fine," Rae said. "I wonder how Donna's sword would handle it?"
"Judging by the Cosmic Staff and Atlantean Trident, probably not much," Hartley pointed out, but Rae ignored him now.
-Day 8-
Once again, after the knife, the omelets, saving Courtney from the stairs and settling who would save Tommy in Gotham, Rae ran out and this time found Donna and Nisos, practically undressed, in Donna's apartment.
"Rae!" Donna yelled.
"Hum… good for you Wonder Girl… now I get why you were so annoyed when I asked you to go to Themyscira," Rae said, putting the two thoughts together with the previous day ordering Donna at around about this time.
"What?" Donna asked.
"Oh, don't worry, that attempt to stop this time loop in the form of an overused TV and Movie plot failed two attempts ago," Rae said. "Your swords are made from Amazonian steel, right? They are basically indestructible…?"
"Yes," the two Amazonians said together.
"Good, grab them, get changed and come with me. Wonder Girl and Wonder Boy can help me out here," Rae said.
"When you say an overused TV plot, are you talking like Groundhog's Day?" Donna asked, that comment seeming to finally click for her.
"Yes, now change," Rae said, and the two jumped up to get their armor on.
…
"So much for indestructible swords," Rae said a few minutes later – Donna and Nisos had both tried to destroy the device with their swords, but the top of the swords were disintegrated, leaving only the handle.
"I told you," Hartley sighed, half-amused, half-annoyed like Rae.
"Diana's sword," Donna mumbled; the sword having been her sister's before hers, after all.
The shock quickly subsided, Donna seeming to get pissed, took out the Lasso of Truth and tossed the end at the device, the Lasso curling around the device and Rae wondered for a moment if the lasso could pull it out – but the Lasso went like everything else that touched it after a second and completely disintegrated. "What the…?!"
"Calm down Wonder Girl," Rae said. "Everything will be fine when the day resets."
"Are you giving up on destroying it yet?" Hartley asked.
"I have not tried everything," Rae answered, and Hartley sighed.
-Day 9-
This time after taking care of her now-morning routine of grabbing the knife, stopping Chris from eating a spicy omelet, saving Courtney from falling down the stairs, and getting someone to go save Tommy later that day, Rae went to find Tantu, Buddy, and Lena Kieran, the two Totem Bearers sitting at a table chatting, with Buddy.
"So, when are we meeting this fiancé of yours?" Tantu was asking.
"He has to settle some things before he can move States," Lena said. "But he's…." She was cut off when Rae grabbed both her and Tantu and ran them to Mercury Labs. Buddy blinked but then shrugging at the Flash taking the two women.
Once in the lab, Lena threw up in a garbage can.
"Really?" Rae asked. "You know your alternates are better at that."
"Why did you grab us…?" Tantu asked.
"I'm in Groundhog's Day, re-living the day because of this device," she pointed at the thing, deciding to keep the explanation short. "You're Totem Bearer. The Air and Spirit Totem. Try and use your powers to take it out," Rae said.
"What?" Lena asked.
"It's better to just do as she says when she's like this," Tantu said, giving her fellow Totem Bearer a nod and the two summoned their powers and directed it at the device – to, once again, it doing nothing. This time Hartley simply sat back and watched.
"Damn it, too bad we don't have all six. I am sure all six would destroy it. Hey, Karry has all six," Rae mused. "Plot for tomorrow reset."
"What's a Karry?" Hartley asked, making Rae turn to look at him. "Never mind."
-Day 10-
The next day after her morning routine, she found herself at Home Base trying to call Karry Universe – but neither the phone nor the teleport were working, and not just to Karry, but to any world.
"Come on, really!" Rae said, figuring this was a side effect of the time loop.
"We're going to need…" Rae recognized Caitlin voiced and saw her come in with Rafael Stein. "Oh, Rae, hi! Rafe has an idea on how to make a separate Zap Tunnel system for sale and if he can do it without interfering with our system, both he and the Justice League could make a lot of money. He needs to look over…."
"I don't care. Let's try some fire," Rae said, cutting Caitlin off.
"What?" Caitlin asked.
"Put on your outfit Wild Fire," Rae said. "We're heading out. Rafe, feel free to look over the computers but don't mess anything up." Clarky gave a bark to let the two know he was there.
"I better get into my outfit," Caitlin said, going to get her outfit on before she and Rae left with Clarky.
…
"I am guessing Wild Fire is not this 'Karry'," Hartley said as they showed up, not even saying hi to Rae as he went straight into it.
"Karry failed early," Rae said, a frown on her face being cut off from her favorite world and the entire multiverse. "Wild Fire, let's burn this now." Rae revealed the device to Caitlin.
Caitlin decided not to argue as she directed her flames at the alien device, but when her flames were gone the device was once again, untouched.
"This freaking thing!" Rae screamed, frustrated beyond anything.
"Can I get a little idea what's going on…?" Caitlin asked.
"Well once the day resets, you won't remember anyway," Rae said and Caitlin blinked. "Think Groundhog's Day."
"Groundhog's Day? Is that meant to mean something?" Caitlin asked.
"Time loop movie?" Rae asked and Caitlin shook her head. "Wild Fire, I love you." Rae gave Caitlin a hug at this.
-Day 11-
After dealing with her morning routine, Rae went and got Jessica from her father's store.
The former Green Lantern, who randomly still went by the name Green Lantern, was willing to come with her to Mercury Labs. This time, it was the first time in a while Rae was hopeful as her powers did move the device slightly for a moment but then Jessica got thrown back.
After that, Jessica tried throwing her powers at it to break it, but to no results.
"When are you giving up on this idea and moving onto something else?" Hartley asked. "You're running out of League members."
"I don't see you coming up with any better ideas and since you got us into this problem either say something smart or shut up," Rae snapped.
"You don't really allow me to give out ideas," Hartley pointed out – it true as Rae took the lead and he just followed, but Clarky gave a growl to shut him up.
"Wow, you must be getting annoyed to be this short tempered," Jessica said, knowing Rae had some patience that seemed to be long used up.
-Day 12-
This time after her morning routine, Rae went to Canary City and the Canary Base which was formerly the Team Arrow Base. She wasn't surprised to find Team Canary, who now were Laurel, Thea, and JT, in the base; JT having an arm around Thea. She was a little surprised to see Stephanie Brown-Snart, their Batgirl, there.
"Batgirl?" Rae asked.
"Helped Team Canary with a stake out last night," Stephanie said.
"Interesting, Laurel give Owen and Arthur to Thea for the day," Rae said seeing the kids there as well. "You're coming with me."
"What are we doing?" Laurel asked.
"Hoping your Canary Scream can break apart an alien device that is making me re-live this day over and over again and if you say Groundhog's Day I will punch you," Rae said, pointing at JT at that.
"I wasn't going to," JT said. "I was going to say it sounds like a Star Trek episode."
"Yeah, I think that was in the time loop marathon the nerds showed me like 11 days ago, or twelve? Could it be fifteen?" Rae said. "Never mind, I'm losing track. Come on Laurel." Rae said and Laurel gave a nod, handing her son to Thea and going with Rae.
…
Laurel was keeping up her scream, trying different levels of pitch a couple of times before sitting down and taking deep breaths as she was exhausted.
"Besides ruining my hearing what was this supposed to accomplished?" Hartley yelled, holding his ears.
"Can you blow out his hearing?" Rae asked.
"Too out of breath," Laurel said.
"Hey, where is your dog this time?" Hartley asked.
"Oh, super hearing and canary cry don't go together. Not hurting my dog like that," Rae said.
"But you'll hurt me like that?" Hartley asked.
"You I am caring about less and less as each day passes," Rae snapped at him.
"Then why keep me in here?" Hartley pointed out; despite no Clarky this time, Rae had still done her 'no one in, no one out' order. Rae rolled her eyes at this one.
-Day 13-
Rae caught the knife and put it down. She then grabbed Leona, who gave a call out at not getting her food and ignoring Chris with the spicy omelets.
"I'll make you pancakes I promise, but just give me a minute with you," Rae said taking her daughter passed Kara, who was walking in.
"Pancakes?" Chris asked after drinking his milk.
"Rae are you okay?" Kara asked.
"Not today, I just can't," Rae said.
"Can't what?" Kara asked.
"Kara do me a favor stand at the bottom of the stairs," Rae said, and Kara raised an eyebrow and did as asked. "Hold out both your arms." Kara did. "And five, four, three, two… one." That was when Courtney came tripping down the stairs and right into Kara's open arms. Kara, shocked, managed to stop herself from falling over and keep the girl up.
"Um… thanks," Courtney said. "How did you do that?"
"Rae?" Kara asked.
"I'm taking a day off. Someone might want to go to Gotham and stop Tommy from nearly being killed. Or don't. Who cares. And tell Hartley Sawyer at Mercury Labs to see me tomorrow, or later, I don't care. Once the day resets it won't matter," Rae said as she sat down on the couch with Leona, determined to stay with her daughter this time.
-Day 14-
After her morning, Rae had just ran into Mercury Labs with Clarky and took a seat.
"So, what was up with you yester-today?" Hartley asked as Rae put her feet up.
"Is that really what we're going with?" Rae asked.
"Got a better idea?" Hartley asked. "I guess you ran out of ways to try to destroy this."
"I'm still working on that one," Rae said, groaning.
"Then let me spend the resets looking over everything and figuring out how to turn this off. To save my work," Hartley said.
"You realize even if you save that there's no way in hell that I am letting you keep it," Rae said. "Hell… Damn it, Lucifer went back to hell. Who'd have thought I would miss him, but he might have been able to do something."
"I lost you after 'keeping it'," Hartley said. "But still let me try to shut it off? You can check in with me in the morning. See if I am making any progress."
"And then?" Rae asked.
"Do whatever you want? Remember the Stargate time loop. There are no consequences. Have some fun. You deserve it after everything you have done," Hartley said.
Rae paused for a moment. "You know what, I think I will take you up on that. Don't end the reset without me," Rae said.
"Promise," Hartley said as Rae got up and ran off.
-Day 15 Onward-
After her interesting conversation with Hartley, Rae had a new routine: She would do her usual morning of stopping Chris from eating the spicy omelet and stopping Courtney from falling down the stairs, she would even send someone to save Tommy because she had to. Then, she would check in with Hartley to see the progress.
Then she grabbed her golf clubs and went to her grandparents.
"Rae, you're early and where's Leona?" Emily asked, almost every day.
"With Kara. Grandpa, get your clubs," Rae said. "We're going to do some tricky courses." Her grandfather didn't argue.
Every day they were doing to courses; the two playing and Rae getting better and better every day at every course they went to, surprising her grandfather as the days progressed.
…
Rae wasn't sure how many days she played golf, but even though she loved the game, after getting really good on the difficult courses she was getting bored.
"You know you never made Indian food," Kara said her normal line and that gave Rae an idea.
"You're right," Rae said. "I'll get on that!" Rae ran out, after giving Leona a kiss, and caught Courtney on her trip down the stairs. "Go to Gotham later, save Tommy," she told Stargirl as she put her adopted daughter down.
"What…?" Courtney asked, but Rae was gone.
"I didn't mean for her to make Indian food now," Kara said as Courtney moved into the kitchen, just as surprised as Kara.
That started Rae on a new adventure to perfect Indian food; she would find an Indian chef and bribe them with an insane amount of money she would never really have to pay to teach her the art of Indian food – the spicier the better.
She was once again not sure how long she did that, but one day before the reset she served Kara a spicy dinner that Kara loved, making a milder version for Chris as well.
…
After perfecting Indian food, Rae found herself at Watchtower one day.
"Hey Rae, we're having a videogame tournament," Winn said.
"I know, teach me," Rae said, making all three nerds stop what they were doing, shocked at the instruction.
"Seriously?" Jess asked.
"I have never really played videogames too much," Rae said. It being true. Despite one or two games Karry gave her she never really learned to play. Especially competitive games. "And I want to learn how to kick your three asses in this game."
"Flash is in," Dougie cheered.
"This will be fun," Adam added, handing a controller to Rae.
Now, Rae spent days learning and practicing with the nerds until she was finally better at them – not just at that game, but at all the games they loved. The nerds ended looking shocked as Rae completely killed them in their game – easily – one day.
…
Rae got more and more creative about how to save Tommy too – her favorite save was when she grabbed Simba from his Natu habitat, she and Leona riding on the back of the creature heading for Gotham.
"What are you doing?!" Kara was Supergirl flying behind them, having chased them out of the Sanctuary.
"Going to Gotham and saving Tommy. Onward Simba!" Rae yelled pointing with one free hand. Her other hand holding Leona as the girl laughed as the two rode. Simba was going to kill the Rabbit Thug.
-Day: No One Knows-
Rae was frustrated as she grabbed the knife and took the spicy omelet away from Chris a little too fast.
"I am sick and tired of this day!" Rae yelled before Kara could even say anything.
"Rae?" Kara asked.
"Clarky, get Courtney," Rae ordered, and the dog gave a bark and returned with Stargirl a moment later. "And that is it. The last time I have to save you from falling down those stairs because I am done. This is it. I am not re-living this day anymore. Groundhog's Day is over one way or another!"
Rae summoned her Flash outfit, to Leona's joy, and got Clarky in his Flash Pup outfit.
"Come on boy. We're going to Mercury Lab and killing a nerd," Rae said running out.
"Is she serous?" Chris asked.
"Deadly," Kara said. "Courtney grab, your Staff real fast. Chris, watch Leona. Get the nerds and maybe Nora to Mercury Labs." Chris gave a nod as the two went out and Chris contacted the nerds.
…
Rae ran into Mercury Lab and pinned Hartley to a wall, Clarky giving a growl.
"Flash!" Hartley said, shocked.
"Can you stop this?!" Rae asked her voice was low and was practically a hiss.
"I need more time!" Hartley moaned.
"I have given you only Rao knows how long. If you're not turning this off by now, you're not turning it off," Rae snapped at him. "I am ending this!" Rae threw the man to the floor, not fast or strong enough to actually hurt him, but to make it clear how annoyed she was.
"What happened to no consequences?" Hartley asked.
"Nothing is fun anymore," Rae said, grabbing the small device the alien device was in. The cart had wheels on it and was able to be pushed, after all.
"Flash…?" This was Kara coming in with Courtney, the nerds, and Nora. "Maybe calm down a little and explain a bit more."
"I have explained so many times it's not funny," Rae said. "We need out of this time loop."
"Well, let us…" Winn started.
"No. The nerds failed, aliens failed, magic failed, trying to destroy it failed… we need a higher power help. I am bringing this to someone more powerful," Rae said, lightning in her eyes and in her hands going around the device and she started to run, phasing her and the device through a wall.
"Where is she going…?" Hartley asked.
"The Speed Force," Kara replied, knowing her wife well.
-New Justice-
Rae picked up her speed and continued until she felt herself entering the Speed Force.
She was afraid for a moment that the time loop would stop her, but it didn't – and she was soon inside the Speed Force. She stopped herself, but not the device as it wheeled away until a person stopped it.
An older version of Kara today, the Speed Force stood in front of the device, a curious look on her face.
"Help," Rae said, falling to the floor.
"Always, my child," the Speed Force said, opening the compartment with the alien device and easily removing it. "Interesting little device... Mercury Labs did enhance this with other alien technology too, not just so Kivard… there," the device suddenly vanished from her hands as she looked back to Rae.
"Where did you send it?" Rae asked.
"To one of my brothers," the Speed Force said.
"Uncle Rock?" Rae asked, being the only brother that she knew of.
"No, but he loves that name. No, you haven't met the Collective Unconsciousness yet but he loves things like that," the Speed Force said, "he loves the quirky and somewhat dangerous."
"Are we… free?" Rae asked.
"Yes, you are," the Speed Force said. "No more looping."
"Are we out of sync with the multiverse?" Rae asked.
"No," the Speed Force said. "Time didn't pass more than a day for them. You and Hartley are the only ones who were affected. Although some of the skills you learned today will fade in time," she added, Rae glad as she really didn't want to remember how to play video games, for one.
A portal opened, Rae glad and shocked that her hell seemed to be over.
"Now, back home my child," the Speed Force stated.
"Thank you," Rae said, moving out and back into the familiar Mercury Lab where everyone was waiting. "It's over. No more re-living days. My Speed Force Mother stopped it and gave the device to one of her brothers. My Uncle, Collective Unconscious, not Uncle Rock."
"The fact I understood most of that is scary," Courtney said. Kara put an arm around Rae and kissed her cheek, somewhat understanding what Rae meant.
"I'll fill you all more in on Watch Tower," Rae said. "Now, Hartley." Rae turned to the scientist.
"Urm," Hartley didn't know what to say.
"If you ever mess with time travel again, I will put you in Fort Ross for eternity. Got it?" Rae asked.
"Are you serious?" Hartley asked.
"Deadly," Kara was the one to answer for the man. "Move on to something else."
"Okay," Hartley said, his face paling but seeing the faces deciding not to argue. He watched as the Justice League left. "And I was just getting used to having them around. Maybe I could be a Friend of the League one day," he mused to himself.
-New Justice-
Later that day, Rae had told her League everything about the device as she knew it and their attempts to get rid of it. She went into as much detail as possible, the group going to Home Base where Rae made one of the Indian dishes she had learned as she talked. She wondered if she would be allowed to keep this skill as the things that she learned over the endless day faded.
"I didn't know you knew how to make Indian. Why haven't you done this before?" Kara asked – this day she hadn't had Rae's Indian food yet.
"I didn't before this day," Rae said, picking up Leona who Chris had brought and putting her on her lap.
"Ah, you did a fun thing where you learned how to do things and just had fun," Adam said grinned, but Rae glared at him at this remark. "Erm… What other things did you do?"
"Well, me and grandpa are definitely winning the father-daughter golf tournament; for the moment I can kick your asses in any of your favorite videogames," Rae said making the boys nervously laugh. "Oh, and one time I rode a Natu to Gotham to use him to stop that rabbit thug from nearly killing Tommy."
There was quiet for a moment.
"Um… what?" This was Caitlin who asked.
"Well, that…" Rae paused looking around – the Gotham heroes were the only members not here. "Crap, I forgot!" Rae looked at the time, noticing she still had time and opened a zap tunnel. She gave Leona to the nearest League member, who happened to be Nora, and ran out.
"You look good with a kid," Adam said to his wife with a smile and Nora had to smile as well as she held Leona.
-New Justice-
Rae ran to Gotham and tackled the rabbit thug moments before he would have gotten the hit on Tommy. Tommy was shocked, turning around at the two as Rae knocked the thug out; Sara, Selina, and Derek taking care of the rest of the thugs.
"Thanks, Flash," Tommy said.
"Watch your back, Black Arrow," Rae said with a laugh. "Last time I have to do this."
"Huh?" Tommy asked.
"Long story. I am sure the nerds would love to re-tell it. Come to Home Base, I cooked Indian," Rae said and ran off.
"There was a party without us?" Sara asked.
"I don't like Indian…" Tommy pointed out but shrugged as the heroes decided to go to Home Base and see what was going on.
Post Chapter Note 1: Wowzas! Well, I hope you enjoyed this seriously long anniversary. It was interesting doing a time-loop – the second attempt at it after Kara's Long Day. What did you guys think? I managed to use just about everyone in the League too.
Post Chapter Note 2: this was a SPECIAL update. New Justice is not back yet. I still have to write part 2. Instead you will be getting a special two part story called Lost World and then Hitchhikers.
Please REVIEW.
Karry Master OUT!
