The stage was set for a momentous battle as the Top 4 of the Vertress Conference commenced. Tensions were palpable in the air as Ash Ketchum, determined and focused, glared heatedly at his childhood rival and bully, Gary Oak. Their heated rivalry had evolved into a formidable clash between trainers, with six pokemon each, ready to engage in a battle of epic proportions. The first face-off of this battle royale featured Ash's mighty Garchomp, Ladon, and Gary's fierce Arcanine.
Gary was quick to make the first move. "Arcanine, let's kick this off with a Flamethrower!" His Arcanine, a fierce and powerful Fire-type pokemon, unleashed a scorching Flamethrower aimed at Ash's Garchomp, Ladon.
"Ladon, Dragon Rush to intercept it!" Ash's command was decisive. Ladon responded with a burst of speed, charging directly into the path of the incoming Flamethrower. As the flames and the Dragon Rush collided, a fierce clash of elemental forces sent sparks and embers scattering through the air.
The struggle was fierce, but Ladon managed to overpower the Flamethrower with sheer force. He continued his advance, undeterred. "Now, Dragon Claw, Ladon!"
Ladon's claws ignited with draconic energy as he swung them down upon Arcanine. The fierce Dragon Claw attack struck Arcanine directly, causing him to stagger back with a growl.
"Arcanine, use Extreme Speed to evade!" Gary was quick to respond. His Arcanine, known for his incredible speed, activated Extreme Speed. He moved with a burst of agility and narrowly managed to evade the second slash of the Dragon Claw.
Ash capitalized on the situation. "Excellent, Ladon. Sandstorm!"
Ladon stirred up a fierce Sandstorm, creating a swirling vortex of sand and wind around the battlefield. The stinging sand whipped through the air, hampering visibility and causing discomfort to both pokemon.
"Arcanine, Bulldoze to clear that sand!" Gary countered with a ground-shaking Bulldoze attack.
Arcanine slammed his paws into the ground, creating powerful shockwaves that rippled through the sandstorm. The forceful move cleared a path, dispelling some of the sand.
"No worries, Ladon. Let's use Dragon Rush again!" With the sandstorm still raging, Ladon propelled himself forward with another Dragon Rush. Arcanine struggled to react quickly within the chaotic environment.
"Arcanine, Fire Fang!" Gary seized the opportunity, commanding Arcanine to charge his fangs with fire energy and bite down on Ladon as he approached.
"Counter with Dragon Tail, Ladon!"
Just as Arcanine lunged for the Fire Fang, Ladon's tail crackled with Dragon power. With incredible force, he swung his tail into Arcanine's jaw. The Fire Fang attack was disrupted, and Arcanine was sent tumbling.
Ladon and Ash had managed to maintain the upper hand in this fierce battle. With Arcanine temporarily disoriented, they saw their chance to strike the finishing blow. "Ladon, Fire Blast!"
As the Sandstorm continued to obscure the battlefield, Ladon summoned the fiery energy of Fire Blast within his maw. He unleashed a 大-shaped blast of yellow-orange fire from his mouth at the disoriented Arcanine.
"Arcanine, dodge it!"
But Arcanine's agility wasn't enough to evade the powerful Fire Blast within the confines of the Sandstorm. The searing attack struck Arcanine, engulfing him in flames.
"Now, Ladon, Dragon Rush once more!"
Seeing the opportunity to conclude the battle, Ladon powered forward with another Dragon Rush. He slammed into Arcanine, who had been weakened by the intense Fire Blast. The impact was enough to knock Arcanine out, and he crashed to the ground, unable to battle any longer.
"Arcanine is unable to battle! Garchomp, Ladon, and Trainer Ash are the winners of the first round of the match!" The referee announced.
Gary growl angrily at his loss, while Ash smirked victoriously as Ladon roared in victory. Meanwhile, the crowd erupted in applause and cheers for both trainers, acknowledging the thrilling start to this momentous battle.
Ash and Ladon had claimed victory in a hard-fought match, but they were fully aware that the battle was far from over. Gary recalled his fainted Arcanine and called forth his mighty Nidoking. Ash, undaunted, kept Ladon in the battle.
"Nidoking, let's go! Earth Power!"
With a thunderous roar, Nidoking released an Earth Power attack. Nidoking's body briefly flashed with yellow energy, and he slams his fist into the ground, creating glowing gold cracks that travel at Ladon and go under him. Gary was determined to turn the tides of battle with this ground-shaking move.
"Ladon, dodge and counter with Dragon Pulse!"
Ash's strategy was clear. Ladon swiftly evaded the Earth Power attack, his agile form maneuvering gracefully to the side. Then, with a powerful Dragon Pulse, he formed a ball of multicolored energy in his mouth and fired a multicolored dragon-shaped beam of energy from it at Nidoking. It charged toward Nidoking with astonishing speed.
"Nidoking, try to intercept it with Poison Jab!"
Gary was quick to respond to Ladon's advance. Nidoking's arm glowed with poison energy as he thrust his Poison Jab toward Ladon, aiming to intercept the incoming Dragon Pulse. However, Ladon was relentless in his pursuit, and the Dragon Pulse overwhelmed Nidoking's Poison Jab. The two collided in a powerful clash.
"Now, Ladon, Dragon Tail!"
Taking advantage of the close proximity, Ash ordered Ladon to unleash a Dragon Tail. Ladon's tail becomes covered in a green, scale-patterned aura. He then hits Nidoking with his tail.
"Nidoking, use Ice Beam!"
Despite taking damage from the Dragon Tail, Nidoking responded with an Ice Beam attack. Ice surged from Nidoking, striking Ladon with a bite frost shock. The battle was taking its toll on both pokemon. They were determined to fight on, but it was becoming evident that they were nearing their limits.
"Ladon, one more Dragon Rush!"
Ash knew that the momentum of his Dragon Rush attacks could be a game-changer. Ladon, summoning his remaining strength, launched another Dragon Rush. He flied at the opponent and the two appendages on his head glowed blue and he released a dragon-shaped energy that covered his body.
"Nidoking, evade and use Poison Jab once more!" Nidoking attempted to evade Ladon's Dragon Rush once more, and this time, the powerful Poison Jab attack struck Ladon during his charge.
Ladon was pushed to his limits. He had given his all in the intense battle, and his energy was waning. But Ash had one last move up his sleeve. "Ladon, finish it with an Outrage!"
In a final surge of power, Ladon unleashed the uncontrollable fury of an Outrage. He became extremely enraged and went on a rampage, as he was surrounded by a red aura while using the move. His attacks became wild and relentless as he struck Nidoking repeatedly. Nidoking valiantly fought back, but he couldn't withstand the unrelenting assault.
With a resounding roar, Ladon's Outrage proved too overwhelming for Nidoking to handle. The Poison and Ground-type pokemon was eventually knocked out by Ladon's onslaught.
The referee raised the flag. "Nidoking is unable to battle! Garchomp, Ladon, and Trainer Ash are the winners of the second round!"
Gary's Nidoking had been knocked out, and he decided to switch to his formidable Blastoise. Meanwhile, Ash had a grimace on his face. His dragon had been poisoned and leaving him out to battle would be stupid. As he raised his Poke Ball to return Ladon, his Garchomp roared back angrily.
"Are you sure?" Ash questioned his partner worriedly. Ladon roared back and turned to glare at Blastoise. "Well, if you are. Let's not back down!"
Ash returned his Poke Ball to his belt and kept his Ladon in the battle. It will be a clash of titans, as both trainers were keen on securing their spot in the final rounds of the conference.
"Begin!" The referee shouted, prompting them to start the battle.
"Blastoise, let's make a big splash! Hydro Pump!"
Blastoise's massive cannons on his back unleashed a high-powered Hydro Pump, propelling a surge of pressurized water at Ladon. Gary was determined to take advantage and maintain his momentum.
"Ladon, use Dig to evade it!" Ash's strategy was clear.
Ladon immediately burrowed into the ground, avoiding the oncoming Hydro Pump. His powerful Dig allowed him to disappear beneath the battlefield and evade the water attack.
"Blastoise, keep an eye on him! Rapid Spin!"
Gary's experience shone through as Blastoise executed a Rapid Spin. The spinning motion not only protected Blastoise from Ladon's surprise attack but also allowed him to quickly close the distance between the two pokemon.
"Ladon, come out and counter with Dragon Breath!"
As Ladon emerged from below the ground, Ash seized the opportunity. His Garchomp released a white beam or a light blue fiery blast from his mouth, aiming to strike Blastoise head-on.
"Blastoise, protect yourself with Withdraw!"
Gary knew that defense was key in this matchup. Blastoise withdrew into its shell, significantly reducing the damage taken from Ladon's Dragon Breath. It was a calculated move to minimize the impact of the attack.
"Let's change the game, Ladon! Use Aerial Ace!"
Ash decided to shift tactics. Ladon immediately executed an Aerial Ace. He soared high above Blastoise and descended with incredible speed, his fins glowing as he aimed for a precise strike.
"Blastoise, try a counter with Flash Cannon!"
Gary was quick to respond, as Blastoise gathered energy to launch a Flash Cannon. He fired two powerful silver beams from his cannons at Ladon. The powerful Steel-type attack clashed with Ladon's Aerial Ace in a dazzling display of energy.
As the dust was settled, Ladon was bruised and bloody, any other pokemon would have knelt over by now. But not Ladon, he was stubborn as Distortion World. He was the Gible that had wanted to learn Draco Meteor as a baby after all!
"Arceus!" Gary cursed, looking at Ladon in equal measures disgust and fear.
Just then Ladon knelt over, knocked out. The poison had finally made its job and taken the pseudo-legendary pokemon out. "Garchomp, Ladon, is unable to battle! Blastoise and Trainer Gary are the winners of the third round!"
The arena fell into a moment of stunned silence as both Ladon layed on the ground. The battle had ended in a dramatic manner. Before the crowd erupted into applause for the incredible display of skill and determination from both Ash and Gary.
"Well done, my friend," Ash smiled gently as he returned his fallen pokemon. "Leave the rest to us now. Astrape you are up next!"
Once more, Gary took the lead. "Blastoise, let's keep the pressure on! Hydro Pump, full power!"
Gary's Blastoise unleashed a mighty Hydro Pump, a torrent of pressurized water with devastating force. The high-powered water attack surged toward Astrape, threatening to overwhelm the Electric-type pokemon.
"Astrape, we've got to outmaneuver it! Use Agility!"
Ash was quick to respond, knowing that Astrape needed to evade the Hydro Pump. Astrape's body crackled with electrical energy as she used Agility to enhance her speed and agility. Astrape zipped around the battlefield with incredible swiftness, narrowly avoiding the brunt of the Hydro Pump. The water attack surged past, missing its mark.
"Impressive speed!" Gary sounded impressed, before shaking his head and glaring back at Ash. "Blastoise, follow up with Flash Cannon!"
Gary was not ready to let Astrape off the hook. Blastoise's canons charged up, gathering energy to unleash a devastating Flash Cannon.
"Astrape, let's protect ourselves with Light Screen!" Ash had anticipated the Flash Cannon and called for Astrape to create a Light Screen.
Astrape generated a barrier of shimmering light in front of her, which would mitigate the damage from special moves. The Flash Cannon hit the Light Screen, and the barrier absorbed a significant portion of the energy, protecting Astrape from the full brunt of the attack.
"You're good, Ashy-boy! But let's see how you handle this! Blastoise, close the distance with Skull Bash!" Gary was relentless in his strategy. A white aura briefly flashed from Blastoise's body, barreling toward Astrape at high speed.
"Astrape, respond with Thunder!" Ash knew that Astrape had to act fast. Astrape summoned the power of lightning and generated a powerful Thunder attack that arced down from the sky.
The Thunder attack struck Blastoise with precise accuracy just as he was closing in with the Skull Bash. The impact caused a brilliant explosion of electrical energy and sent Blastoise tumbling backward.
"Blastoise, hang in there! Finish it with Hydro Pump!" Even after taking a powerful Thunder attack, Blastoise managed to regain his composure. He unleashed another Hydro Pump, pushing himself to the limit.
"Astrape, try to dodge it with another Agility!"
Astrape responded with another burst of Agility, darting around the Hydro Pump's path. The nimble Electric-type evaded the water attack skillfully, demonstrating her incredible speed. But the intense battle had taken its toll on Astrape. She had used a lot of energy to dodge the attacks and maintain the Light Screen.
"No more running, Ashy-boy! Blastoise, tackle Astrape with Skull Bash again!" Gary was determined to land a decisive blow. Blastoise once more closed the distance with incredible speed, preparing for a powerful Skull Bash.
"Astrape, hang in there! Try a Thunder Shock!"
With Astrape's energy waning, she released a Thunder Shock, a less powerful but faster electric attack. The Thunder Shock and Blastoise's Skull Bash collided with a thunderous impact. It was a hard-fought battle, but Astrape's strength was waning.
"Finish it, Blastoise! Hydro Pump, one more time!" Blastoise summoned the last of his energy and unleashed one final Hydro Pump, a relentless torrent of water.
"Astrape, give it everything you've got with Thunder!"
In a final, desperate attempt, Astrape gathered the last of her strength and unleashed a powerful Thunder attack. The two moves collided in an explosive clash of water and electricity, creating a dazzling spectacle in the arena.
"It's a double knockout!" The referee announced once the dust had settled, and everything was said and done.
"He does not look happy," Cilan commented from the stands, as his gaze fell on a disgruntled Gary as he recalled his fallen starter. Cilan then turned towards his best friend and chuckled. "Neither does Ash. He is clearly impressed by Gary and not happy at all for thinking that."
"Ashy will always respect good coaching," Delia giggled. "Even with someone he does not approve of. From what Cel told me, he was the same with Paul back in Sinnoh… well, without the charged past."
"I hope they will be able to reach an understanding during the battle," Professor Oak sighed. "Or that this would at least help Gary."
"I do hope Ash will find closer after this battle and be able to move on," Drayden grumbled. "We shall wait and see how this entangles."
The arena buzzed with anticipation as Ash's Haxorus, Drako, and Gary's Magmortar faced off in a battle that would further define their epic showdown in the Vertress Conference. Both trainers wore determined expressions as they sought victory in this crucial clash.
"Drako, let's keep the pressure on! Start with Dragon Claw!" With a mighty roar, Drako lunged forward, his claws radiating a fierce, dragon-like energy. His Dragon Claw sliced through the air with incredible speed, aiming directly at Magmortar.
"Magmortar, evade and counter with Thunderbolt!"
Following Gary's swift response, Magmortar moved with surprising agility, narrowly avoiding Drako's Dragon Claw. In an instant, he retaliated with a powerful Thunderbolt, a bolt of electric energy crackling toward Drako.
"Drako, use Dragon Dance to boost your speed and power!"
Drako's movements took on an almost mystical quality as he initiated a graceful and swift Dragon Dance. His speed and strength surged, making him an even more formidable force on the battlefield. It also allowed him to evade the Thunderbolt just in time.
"Magmortar, we can't let up! Follow that Thunderbolt with Fire Blast!" Magmortar raises his arm, and his hand disappears into his arm cannon. A ball of red-orange fire then appears in front of the cannon and Magmortar fired it at Drako.
"Drako, dodge that Fire Blast with a Double Team!"
As the fiery attack approached, Drako split into multiple illusionary copies of himself, leaving Magmortar's Fire Blast to impact the ground harmlessly. The real Drako emerged from the tactic unscathed.
"Don't lose focus, Magmortar! Hit those illusions with Thunderbolt!" Magmortar unleashed another Thunderbolt, this time targeting the illusions of Drako. One by one, the illusions flickered and vanished under the electric assault.
"Great work, Drako! Now, close in with Dragon Claw!" With his agility enhanced by Dragon Dance, Drako swiftly closed the distance to Magmortar.
"Magmortar, brace for the impact and retaliate with Focus Blast!"
Magmortar, despite the impending Dragon Claw, concentrated his energy into a potent Focus Blast attack. The explosive sphere of energy clashed with Drako's Dragon Claw, resulting in a spectacular mid-air collision.
In this intense clash of moves, the two powerful attacks met head-on, sending shockwaves through the battlefield. The audience held its collective breath, eager to see which pokemon would emerge victorious.
"Drako, finish it with Outrage!"
As the smoke and energy dissipated, Drako's eyes gleamed with an almost uncontrollable rage. Haxorus's eyes glowed red, and his body briefly became surrounded in a red aura. He then repeatedly slashes at Magmotar with his tusks.
"Magmortar, try to endure it and use Fire Blast!"
Magmortar attempted to weather the storm of Drako's Outrage while charging up another Thunderbolt, but the unrelenting assault proved too much. Drako's consecutive blows overwhelmed Magmortar, and he was unable to launch his Fire Blast. The tumultuous sequence of attacks ended with a final, mighty blow from Drako's Outrage, which knocked out Magmortar.
The referee raised his flag. "Magmortar is unable to battle. Haxorus and Ash win this round!"
Professor Oak couldn't help but feel a sense of empathy as he observed the ongoing battle between his grandson Gary and Ash. The score was currently four to two, in favor of Ash, and it appeared that Gary had the upper hand. Despite his grandson's talent and determination, the battle seemed to be slipping away from him.
The professor had anticipated this outcome but couldn't help feeling for Gary. He knew how much this competition meant to him. Ash, on the other hand, remained unaware of the significance of his battles and the prestigious title he had already earned.
Little did Ash know that he had already achieved one of the most coveted titles in the pokemon world - the Dragon Master. Drayden, the formidable and strongest Dragon Master of Unova, had pitted his best against Ash, his A-team, including his mighty Ace, and had been soundly defeated. It was a remarkable accomplishment for Ash, one that demonstrated his exceptional skills and his unbreakable bond with his Dragon-type pokemon.
Despite already achieving the title, Drayden chose to keep it a secret from Ash. He wanted Ash to focus entirely on the Vertress Conference and give it his all without any added pressure. The Unovan League Official who had witnessed the battle from the stands, hidden among the students of the Opelucid Academy, knew the truth. So did Professor Oak and Delia, the adults Ash trusted the most, among precious mentor Drayden-sensei.
Ash's journey had been extraordinary, from the Lily of the Valley Conference to triumphing over the strongest Dragon Master in Unova. His dedication and passion for becoming a pokemon Master had been acknowledged. The Charizardite X, a symbol of his immense achievement, was safely held by Drayden, waiting for the right moment to be revealed to Ash.
As the Vertress Conference continued, it was only a matter of time before Ash's incredible achievements were brought to light. He had proven himself on numerous occasions, and now, the moment was approaching when he would receive the recognition he truly deserved.
Professor Oak shook his head and focused on the battle at hand. Drako was now facing off against Gary's formidable Electivire. Meanwhile, Professor Oak was praying that this does not break his grandson's confidence. He wanted Gary to learn a lesson, not be completely obliterated.
"Drako, we're not backing down now. Use Dragon Claw!" Drako responded swiftly, his claws gleaming with draconic power as he lunged toward Electivire with a ferocious Dragon Claw.
"Electivire, intercept that attack with Ice Punch!" Gary's quick thinking brought forth Electivire's Ice Punch, and his frozen fist clashed with Drako's Dragon Claw. The resulting collision sent sparks and ice shards flying in all directions.
Ash growled as Drako moaned in pain and flinched back from the ice. "Follow up with Dragon Pulse!" Without wasting a moment, Drako formed a ball of multicolored energy in his mouth and fired a multicolored dragon-shaped beam of energy from it at the Electivire.
"Electivire, dodge it and strike back with an Ice Punch!" Electivire's agility shone as he evaded the incoming Dragon Pulse and charged his frozen fist with Ice Punch.
"Drako, use Dragon Dance to further boost your speed and power!" Drako's movements became even more fluid and dynamic as he performed a Dragon Dance, enhancing both his speed and the strength of his attacks. "Now, let's show them our power! Unleash a powerful Draco Meteor!"
Drako received the Ice Punch at full force, but not before releasing a devasting Draco Meteor. Drako's body glowed orange and an orange ball of light appeared inside his chest. The glow faded and a ball of orange energy appeared in front of Drako's mouth. Drako fired the ball into the air, and it exploded, releasing many orbs. The series of devastating blows hit Electivire with incredible force.
The impact of the two simultaneous moves created an explosion of energy that reverberated throughout the battlefield. The force of the collision pushed both pokemon back, leaving them knocked out cold.
"It's a draw! Both Haxorus and Electivire are unable to battle." The referee announced, looking as stunned as the crowd. Draws were not easy to achieve at this level of competition.
The audience erupted into cheers for the awe-inspiring battle that had unfolded before them. Ash and Gary had once again displayed their extraordinary skills, and the Vertress Conference was turning out to be one of the most memorable pokemon battles ever.
"Not bad, Gary," Ash chuckled, recalling Drako. "You are the first one to push my dragons this much during this conference."
"You are not so bad yourself, Ashy-boy," Gary returned with a smile of his own, recalling his fainted Electivire. For a second Ash's breath was caught in his throat, it was as if he had been transported back in time and they were still childhood friends play-acting battles. "Blackie, you are up my beautiful girl!"
"Aeolus, I choose you!" Ash called out his fourth pokemon without a hint of regret. Gary had once told Ash that he would never amount to anything, much less be able to catch a Dragonite. Let's see this Dragonite he had not believed Ash to be able to catch, seal his fate on this conference. Gary grimaced, recalling the same memory as Ash as soon as his eyes landed on Aeolus. "Aeolus, let's keep the momentum going! Show them your Aqua Tail!"
With a roar that echoed through the battlefield, Aeolus's tail became surrounded in a light blue aura, with water swirling around the tip, and it launched rapidly towards Umbreon.
"Blackie, dodge it! Quick Attack!" Umbreon responded swiftly, her agile form almost dancing as she executed a Quick Attack to narrowly evade Aeolus's Aqua Tail.
"Impressive, Gary!" Ash grinned, looking like a ten-year-old boy once more. "But we're not done. Follow up with a Dragon Pulse, Aeolus!"
Dragonite opened his mouth, and a turquoise energy ball appeared in front of it. He then fired the ball, and it homed in on Umbreon.
"Blackie, Confuse Ray! Create a distraction!" In a dazzling display, Blackie emitted an intense Confuse Ray, sending disorienting flashes of light in all directions. The Dragon Pulse collided with the rays, causing a burst of chaotic energy.
"Aeolus, push through it! Use Aerial Ace to strike directly!"
Aeolus powered through, his form shimmering as he executed a precise Aerial Ace. He shot through the turbulent mix of Dragon Pulse and Confuse Ray, homing in on Blackie.
"Blackie, endure it! Counter with Foul Play!"
Umbreon braced itself and, cunningly, unleashed a powerful Foul Play just as Aeolus's Aerial Ace struck. The move utilized Aeolus's own power against him. The impact of the two moves caused an explosion of energy that enveloped both pokemon. However, when the dust settled, it was clear that Blackie had taken the brunt of the damage.
"Umbreon is unable to battle! Dragonite and Ash are the winners this round!" The referee announced. The stadium erupted into cheers, as Ash and Gary's intense battle continued to captivate the audience. With Blackie defeated, Ash would advance to the finals of the Vertress Conference. "As Trainer Gary Oak has no remaining pokemon capable of battling, the winner is Trainer Ash Ketchum!"
Gary chuckled and knelt to pat his beautiful girl. Blackie licked Gary's face apologetically. "Do not worry about it, girl. You did wonderful." He smiled at her, before his eyes landed on Ash who was hugging his Dragonite as this one flew them around in celebration. "He has a Dragonite… I could have never been more far off than I was back then." He shook his head and stood up, with Blackie in his arms, and headed towards the exit. Blackie tried to communicate, pointing towards the flying duo behind them, but Gary did not stop walking. "Not here and not yet, girl. If I apologize, I need to earn it. That much I did learn from Gramps. I do not deserve it yet."
Before taking the last step to leave the battlefield, he stopped and turned around. Gary smiled fondly as Aeolus continued to fly Ash around. "Maybe one day I will."
