Chapter one
Encanto, Colombia
After the reception, Alma Madrigal returned to Casita with Julieta, Agustin, Pepa and Felix, all of whom wondered where Bruno had disappeared off to before thinking that he could have returned to have a vision or maybe simply to sleep off the party.
"Mama, I will go and check on Bruno" Julieta stated as she walked for the stairs that led up to the bedrooms and Alma nodded as Agustin patted Felix on the back.
Pepa smiled seeing her husband and future brother in law being great friends and she wished that Bruno did not say that it looks like rain causing a hurricane to happen and getting everyone wet before she finally got her emotions under control.
Agustin was the first one into the kitchen, so he was the one to notice the piece of paper on the table and he paused in his walking before frowning wondering why there was a note on the table.
"Agustin, what is wrong?" Felix asked as his question got his wife and mother in law's attention.
Alma walked over quickly and just before she could pick the note, there was a scream from upstairs.
"MAMA! BRUNO IS NOT HERE" Julieta yelled and Alma looked to the letter in shock now seeing that it was her son's writing.
"There is a letter on the table, my love" Agustin called back and everyone heard Julieta rush back down stairs.
"Mama, please read it" Julieta pleaded grabbing Agustin's hand and Alma nodded at her daughter and opened the letter as everyone sat down at the table.
"We will chat after I read out the letter" Alma stated and the other four nodded as Julieta grabbed Pepa's hand.
Mama, Pepa, Julieta, Felix and Agustin
I am truly so sorry for disappearing like this, but I feel that it is my path... that something is waiting for me and I need to find out where it leads me. Plus... I get the feeling that the village no longer wants me around due to the nickname they have given me... Bad Luck Bruno.
Julieta, please look after mama and Pepa, I wish you and Agustin well... and don't worry about me, I have taken a few arepa con quesos for my journey, I promise to keep safe and when the time comes I shall send a letter back when I feel that the time is right.
Also Pepa, I am sorry about your wedding... that was not a prophecy, I could see that you were forcing yourself to be happy yet I sensed that you were nervous and I could see over the many dates you two went on that Felix loves you so much no matter what happens, I wanted you to let it snow, let it rain and let your emotions flow freely.
Mama, I wish you could accept my gift, sure I see some bad outcomes... but there is still good outcomes... the future is made by your own choices and decisions. I love you so much mama, but I can not stay and suffer the angry stares and whispering, I have to find my own place and if I am something more than Bad Luck Bruno.
I wish you all the best and I will return... when I am ready.
Bruno
The five were sitting in shock and then there were rain drops and everyone looked to Pepa who was looking at her hands now clenched in her lap.
"He could die out there and we would never know... it is my fault for getting angry and annoyed at him for what he said, when he was only trying to help me let loose my emotions" Pepa whispered as the rain cloud soaked everyone.
"I went back on our promise all those years ago to always be there for each other" Julieta whispered and Agustin hugged her to him and Felix hugged Pepa not caring that he was soaked to the bone.
"Your brother is strong... he will return to us when the time is right... we just have to have faith" Alma whispered and the two girls cried as their partners led them up to their rooms,
Alma continued to sit at the table holding the now ruined letter in her hands as tears fell from her eyes and she bowed her head.
"Pedro... watch out over our son... keep him safe and I am sorry that I failed you" Alma whispered before she could another shaking breath and grabbed a piece of cloth to wipe her eyes.
She got to her feet and walked up to her room leaving the ruined letter in pieces. She did not see a small fleck of golden dust fly through the window and simply paused as it watched Alma go into her room and close the door behind her, then more flecks appeared and flew into the kitchen to the ruined letter and repaired it then having it float to a wall and hid it there for when the time came to having it found.
A figure formed from the golden dust and walked to the doorway before glancing up the stairs.
"Regresará a casa, pero ahora tiene un propósito y un destino mayores" the figure whispered into the silent house before disappearing fully leaving nothing behind to showed anything strange happened.
Four months later
Arendelle
Bruno carried a small basket of new baked goods to their spots and as he was putting them away, his thoughts turned to his journey getting to his new home of Arendelle which was ruled by a young Queen, who had magic of ice and water. Bruno had been shocked to see the residents of Arendelle so accepting of their Queen that he wondered how they would take to him.
Bruno shook his head as he walked back inside the bakery, his thoughts turning back to his own journey and he sat down in the chair watching the sand timer slowly descend down.
After he left Encanto, Bruno walked for 2 weeks to get to the coast and then an extra two days to get to Barranquilla, where there were two small ships anchored there. Asking around, he got on the first ship to leave which was bound for the Kingdom of Arendelle. The other ship was not due to leave for another 2 days and it was bound for a place called Tortuga. Bruno found out that it was a ramshackle haven for pirates, rogues, scoundrels, outlaws and sailors in the Caribbean, but it was better organized than what it was 10 years ago due to the lord of the island, a man named Joshamee Gibbs.
Bruno shook his head as he got to his feet wondering why his thoughts turned back to that piece of information and as he took the bread rolls out of the oven, his thoughts went back to when he arrived in Arendelle, chatting with the captain of the ship and then once in the Kingdom meeting Marius, the owner of the bakery.
Flashback
Bruno had been on the ship for 17 days, it took him 4 days to get over sea sickness and to get his sea legs, even then he vowed never to go onto another ship and he would find another way to get home when the time comes.
He watched as Arendelle came into view and his breath caught in his throat, he was in awe and amazement at the Kingdom and even though he was still out on the water, he could feel something pulling within telling him that this was going to be his home.
"She is a beautiful Kingdom, isn't she?" Bruno turned to the voice and saw an older man that had a black wig, which was well made.
"Indeed" Bruno replied before looking out over the water and the man walked over to the railing.
"You remind me of an old acquaintance of mine, what did you say your name was?" the man asked looking side ways to Bruno, who in turned looked to him.
"Bruno, my name is simply Bruno now... before you ask I simply aim to find myself and who I am without my family name hanging over my head" the man nodded given no emotion "may I ask who do I remind you of?" the man glanced at him quickly.
"I do not say his name these days, I prefer not to dwell in the memories of old... I will say that I regret my actions against him and his family to be" the man stated calmly
"I can understand that and at least you regret the actions, so I am sorry I asked bringing up those memories for a brief moment" Bruno replied as he turned to look out over the water.
"Captain Midas, you are needed at the helm" Bruno heard a man call out.
"I hope you find what you are looking for" the captain stated and Bruno turn to watch him head up to the wheel of the ship.
Once Bruno got off the ship, he felt his legs were like jelly and he fell to the ground with a dizzy feeling surrounding his head.
"Sir, are you okay?" Bruno shook his head to try and get rid of the dizzying feeling but that made it worst "please, take it easy and relax... deep breaths... did you just get off the ship?" Bruno nodded "First time out on the ocean?" Bruno nodded as he continued to do deep breathing trying to centre himself "Have you been traveling long?" Bruno nodded before he took another deep breath.
"Y-y-yes" Bruno felt shock strike him, he did not realise how unsteady his body felt after getting off the ship and back onto land "17..." Bruno had a coughing fit as the helpful man rubbed his back.
"Days?" Bruno nodded "That is a long journey, for a first timer out on the ocean... are you exploring the world?" Bruno shook his head "finding yourself?" Bruno nodded just as his coughing calmed down and he took a drink of water "I never introduced myself, my name is Marius, may I ask for yours?" Marius asked and Bruno looked at him.
"My name is Bruno, just Bruno... it is a pleasure to meet you Marius and thank you for helping me" Bruno replied and Marius grinned at him.
"I am going to take a wild guess and say you don't have a plan on what your next move is going to be" Marius stated and Bruno looked at him with questioning eyes.
"How?" Bruno asked and Marius looked at him before looking out to the ocean.
"An event from years ago, I shall tell it to you at a later time, but for now, how would you like a job working at the bakery here?" Marius stated and Bruno looked at him surprised.
"You would do that for me... I am not much of a cook" Bruno replied and Marius waved him off.
"Nonsense, everyone can cook given time, patience and proper lessons" Marius stated with a grin and Bruno looked out to the ocean.
"Thank you and I shall take you up on the offer" Bruno replied with a smile and Marius shook his hand.
End of Flashback
On the second day of arriving in Arendelle, Bruno heard the softest of voices echoing from the mountains that called out to him, yet something within him kept him in the village and his senses told him that it was not yet time to seek out the voices calling out to him.
Marius gave him the second room above the bakery to which Bruno was grateful and then Marius began to teach him how to bake and even how to sort out the store in front. It kept Bruno busy and Marius told him of the history of Arendelle. However, it was 2 weeks since Bruno arrived when Marius told Bruno about the Queen and the events surrounding her coronation.
Bruno was amazed hearing everything that happened, he felt for Queen Elsa and her sister Anna, for reason there was a small humming within whenever he thought of the family mainly the Queen. Bruno privately vowed that if he ever heard that Prince Hans or even the Duke of Weselton was coming to Arendelle he would be there for the royal family.
"..ro, Bruno" Bruno shook his head getting out of the memories and looked to an amused Marius "you alright there?" Marius asked with concern and Bruno nodded.
"Yes... just remembering when I found out about the Queen's powers and how much time has flown by.. even though it has only been two weeks since I arrived here" Bruno replied and Marius nodded as the two placed a tray of various baked goods in the oven.
"I still remember your shocked look, but Elsa is truly a wonderful queen, she cares deeply for Arendelle and of course she loves her sister, I remember first seeing her power, she had been arguing with her sister and she ran off causing a massive blizzard in July..." Marius closed his eyes "there is a part of me that does wonder what the fight was about... but as I told you, not even two days later the blizzard was over, Queen Elsa thawed the ice and in the middle of summer, she turned the castle courtyard into an ice skating ring and Princess Anna found a very nice man unlike that foul prince" Marius explained and Bruno looked down.
"You know after you told me of Prince Hans, I vowed to myself up in my room to be there for the Queen and the Princess if he ever were to come back here, even the Duke of Weselton I would pick up a sword to fight against the two horrible men" Bruno whispered watching the oven and Marius placed a hand on his shoulder.
"You are a good man, Bruno, Arendelle is lucky to have you here" Marius stated and Bruno nodded.
The two worked in silence getting new orders sorted out and placing new bake goods out front. Marius had just grabbed the basket of newly iced cookies, when he heard a soft giggle by the front door and he glanced up and grinned.
"Princess Anna, Kristoff, what a pleasure to see you both" Marius greeted the two and placed the basket down.
"It is good to see you, Marius, Elsa and I heard that you hired an apprentice, I was hoping to meet him" Anna stated and Marius smiled at her.
"He is just in the back, I will go and get..." Marius was cut off as Bruno came out and he paused seeing the two.
"Greetings..." Marius cut him off with a smile and walking over to him putting an arm over his shoulders.
"Ah Bruno, I was just about to come and get you, this is Princess Anna and her boyfriend Kristoff" Marius introduced and Bruno swallowed before beginning to bow his head.
"Oh please, none of that bowing stuff around me, I have been wanting to come and meet you, however I could not get away from my duties" Anna stated coming over to Bruno as Marius let go of Bruno and went into the back with the basket before he returned with a wrapped parcel.
"Also please just call me Kristoff... I am still trying to get use to titles" Kristoff explained and Princess Anna smiled at him.
"Pleasure to meet you both, is there anything you need?" Bruno asked and Anna giggled at him.
"Marius has it..." Marius handed the parcel to Kristoff "so where are you from, Bruno?" Bruno raised an eyebrow at the forwardness of Princess Anna and Kristoff patted her shoulder.
"I traveled from Colombia" Bruno replied and Anna tilted her head.
"Where is Colombia? Where are your family?" Anna asked softly and Bruno smiled softly at her.
"Colombia is to the south, 17 days travel over the ocean..." Bruno bowed his head "as for my family, they are back in Colombia, I ran away... it is a long story and one I am not comfortable talking about as of yet" Bruno replied softly as he looked back towards Anna and Kristoff.
"Anna, Kristoff... are you ready to go back to the castle" a female voice called out as two glanced over their shoulders and Bruno felt his breath paused in his throat getting his first look at the Queen, who wore a pale blue glittering gown with her white hair braided down her back and then her eyes caught his.
Unknown to Bruno, but the three saw his look and they looked at each other and the three moved to the back keeping an eye on Bruno. Just before the three could speak, the three gasped in shock as a fine golden dust appeared and everything but them was frozen in place.
"Marius, tell me honestly... do you trust Bruno? Despite the little he has told you" Anna asked seriously poking a small speck and Marius looked at her.
"Your highness" Anna looked at him sharply "it is only right for this moment, but I shall call you Anna from now on... anyway I have seen many things in my long life, I made some truly bad choices before I came here... I won't get into my past, maybe another time... but yes, there is something about him that tells me I can trust him... I don't trust a lot of people and yet... I have found myself here in this Kingdom and finding a home... a true home for myself outside of my old home, which yes I do miss greatly, but I know she is good hands..." Marius looked melancholy before shaking his head "but to your question about trust in young Bruno... yes, I trust him with my life and even if I tell him, my past" Marius stated and Anna frowned.
"Do Elsa or I need to worry about trouble from your past coming here?" Anna asked seriously and Marius frowned.
"There is one that comes here, but I am unsure as to how he survived and I have not confronted him, as I truly am not sure if it truly him... but I shall confront him to find the truth of the matter" Marius stated with a hand on his chest and Anna looked to Kristoff.
However before Kristoff could say anything the golden dust started to disappear and they moved back to where they were standing.
"We are now Elsa" Kristoff replied remembering he was about to say that and he watched as Elsa entered the bakery with a smile.
"Your majesty, it is truly hopefully to see you again, I hope you are going well" Marius greeted the queen and Bruno swallowed before bowing his head.
"Yes, I am going well... I see we have a new baker" Elsa said looking over Bruno with a small uncertain smile and Marius could see that the young Queen was worried about the new person in the village.
"Your Majesty allow me to introduce, Bruno from Colombia, he arrived here 2 weeks ago... I helped him out when he was unbalanced from the long journey" Marius introduced and Elsa smiled at Bruno.
"It-it's nice... a pleasure to... to meet you, your ma-majesty" Bruno greeted with a stammer with a bow and Elsa looked at him.
"Please stand..." Bruno stood "it is very nice to meet you as well Bruno and welcome to Arendelle" Elsa turned to Anna and Kristoff "we best head back and get ready for the meeting, Anna" Elsa told her sister, who sighed and nodded before she walked out with Kristoff and then Elsa followed them out with a small quick glance at Bruno and then she walked quickly away.
"Well, let's get back to work..." Marius started to walk back over to the oven "you know Bruno... I can see that you will be a great fit for Arendelle... I am glad you are here" Marius told Bruno and Bruno smiled at the baker.
"I... I am glad to be here as well" Bruno replied and he went over to the window to glance at Elsa as she entrained some children with some snow and Bruno smiled before he got back to work.
Marius looked over the young man and then out to the harbour with a frown.
"If that was truly you, how did you survive the battle?" Marius thought remembering the battle and wondered if he should contact an old friend to find out the truth if they knew the truth.
The next week
Over the next week, Bruno and Marius kept busy with the different baked goods the village requested and then came in the request for the castle with a letter from Anna stating that it was time for a test and Marius knew it was for the walking and talking snowman named Olaf.
Marius had a new box of baked goods for the castle and gave the box to Bruno.
"Marius... you need me here, is there anyone else to deliver the box" Bruno stated as he struggled slightly with the balance before he got it right.
"You are quick on your feet and this will be a good chance to meet many of the castle residents" Marius stated with a grin and Bruno raised an eyebrow.
"Okay... I will try and be quick, I know we have a large order for young Ivan's birthday" Bruno stated and Marius waved him off.
"I can handle the order, you take your time coming back... I have a feeling you may just need it" Marius stated being very mysterious and Bruno shrugged and grabbed the box and left the bakery.
Marius watched as Bruno rounded the corner and he wondered how Bruno would go with the walking talking snowman named Olaf, even he had problems and he knew of some evil curses that existed out in the world.
"I should send word to Anamaria that I am in need of her help" Marius whispered to himself and headed back to the ovens to get started on young Ivan's cake.
As Bruno walked towards the castle, many of the children of the village ran over to him and he smiled at them.
"Greeting Baker Bruno" many people called out and Bruno smiled at them.
"What is the box?" some children asked and Bruno smiled at them.
"Baked treats for the castle residents" Bruno answered as the children joined him on the walk.
Just before the bridge to enter the castle, the children stopped Bruno from crossing the bridge with serious expressions and Bruno looked worried.
"Is something wrong?" Bruno asked and the children looked at each other.
"Don't hurt Olaf" the children said as one and Bruno watched in bewilderment as the group ran off.
"Who is Olaf?" Bruno muttered to himself and then he shook his head and walked across the bridge.
"Halt" the guard said and Bruno stopped walking and bowed his head while holding the box.
"Greetings guard... I am delivering this box of baked goods to the castle residents seeing as both her majesty and Princess Anna were both busy, well from what I had been informed about by Marius" Bruno stated calmly and in a clear voice.
"You may enter, drop the box off in the kitchen... which is the back left hand door" the guard stated and Bruno bowed his head and entered the courtyard.
Bruno was staring at the stunning architecture that surrounded him and he bit his lip thinking of Encanto and of his family, he hoped that they were alright. He shook his head before he glanced over hearing the echoes again coming from the mountains, but this time the voices felt like they were happy and he looked back to the castle wondering what was happening.
He entered the back left hand door and placed the box on the table, however just before he was about to leave he felt someone watching him and he slowly walked out of the kitchen and found himself in a ballroom.
"Hi, I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs" Bruno was jolted out of his thoughts by a strange voice.
"Anyone there?" Bruno called out and he kept glancing around trying to work out where the voice came from.
"Hi, I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs" the voice said again with a confused tone causing Bruno to look down and his eyes widen seeing a walking snowman.
"...huh" Bruno said before he dropped to the floor.
"ELSA! ANNA!" the snowman yelled as Bruno blacked out from fainting.
Silver - I kept this chapter pretty close to what it was and just improved on a few bits and of course adding in the scene of Bruno meeting Captain Midas, those that know who he truly is do not spoil it for the new readers, plus I have changed a few things. Also I have decided to changed Marius ever so slightly, there is a reason I never stated what he looks like and he will be revealed soon, but there is a hidden detail when he, Kristoff and Anna are talking that gives a small clue as to who he is as well another clue with his last line of the chapter. Also it is not Jack Sparrow.
Loki - Thank you for the continued support on this new version.
Silver - I also used a site called fluentcargo to see how long a cargo/container ship would take to get to Norway from Colombia.
