The Black Priestess Selene From Marvel is another inspiration, and plays a huge key in my story. AS is Agatha from the MCU. Not DC I know but still inspirational.
This is not a Light Story, more Gray.
December 2009
It took Nick three day before he got control over his powers. Will and words controlled everything. He was no power house, but he was good at figuring out how to maneuver his skills. Spells to move objects, sense auras, start fires, heal, sway hearts, ward off his new Gotham Apartment. It took some time, a lot of energy ( Lifeforce) and focus that often left him with headaches but he managed it all.
Within three months, he figured out how to move small objects with his mind, read auras with only slight focus, and let out incredibly weak blasts of energy. With his new skill of aura sensing, he could track down real magical grimoires and that caused his knowledge to explosively and exponentially grow. At this point he messed with someone's mind to get into MMA classes for free, using healing spells to prevent any trace of bruising or concussions.
By the end of his first year, he could create barriers with simple chants, wards to create safe spaces, potions and rituals to magnify spells, and so many other things. He could release concussive blasts of power, at the cost of a lot of energy, and knew dozens of spells for combat, healing and other such things.
He had fully bespelled and altered an empty warehouse, using magic to ward it off from harm and idiots. He even had messed with people's minds to get them to rebuild and equip it to be livable. No one could enter without breaking in with more potent magic.
Things went well for some time, and soon a year and a half passed by...
And then, something went... weird.
He had gone on a trip to obtain some more books, and was on his way home when he saw an old man staring at his warehouse. The man was dressed to the t, complete with suit and gold tipped cane. His aura was powerfully magical, but muted with age.
"Nice spells, kid, but you could be doing so much better." The Old man said. "Same with stealing, you could be doing so much better."
Nick backed up. "I am not exactly rolling in the dough, better I get the books since I can actually use them."
The man laughed. "Fair points, all around. Name's Kent Nelson."
"Nick... Michaels.
"Nice to meet you, Nick. So tell me, how'd you get into magic?"
Nick looked at his books. "Desperation and a lot of study."
"I can see that... tell you what, if you agree to stop the thefts, I'll tutor you myself."
"Why?"
The man smirked. "I was the Earth's Sorcerer Supreme, I was the host to Doctor Fate." His body erupted a thick golden mantle, a symbol of his power, and his truth."
Nodding without hesitation, he said. "Deal, just be real about teaching me, I won't stand for anything else."
"Good, never settle for less. If you want, you can stay here, would be easier to train you here anyway."
And so life changed for Nick once more, in ways he could never anticipate. He only hoped he could keep up.
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
This was a joy to write.
