Tales of the Slayers

Lizzie Borden, Vampire Hunter?!

One of the more annoying things Giles, Buffy's Watcher, had her doing was going through old journals from past Slayers. It was MOSTLY pretty boring stuff, but every now and then they hit something interesting.

"Wait... Lizzie Borden was a SLAYER?" Buffy blurted.

"Not exactly," Giles responded, "but she worked with her eras' Slayer."

"Wait, what?" Zander blinked.

Everyone, of course knew the stories about Lizzie, and her killing her parents. 'Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her father forty wacks, when she saw what she had done, she gave her mother forty one.' and so on.

"Let me see," Willow read. "Huh. That.. makes a weird sort of sense."

"WHAT?" Xander insisted.

Willow was quickly skimming the documents, "There was a vampire infestation in Fall River, and they had enthralled both Abby and Andrew, Lizzie's step-mom and father. The Watcher investigating felt that Abby might have been a vampire servant even before she met Andrew, and married him for the wealth and influence."

Buffy nodded, "Sucks to be him."

"Then what?" Xander asked, intrigued.

"They apparently wanted to serve up Lizzie's younger sister to the vampire, and Emma cried out for help. Lizzie grabbed the only thing at hand, a axe, while her 'parents' went insane and tried to kill her," Buffy read.

"Which explains the story," Xander noted.

"The Slayer at the time, actress Nance O'Neil, arrived hunting the vampire and teamed up with Lizzie to fight her and her remaining thralls," Giles noted.

"I read somewhere Lizzie and Nance were girlfriends," Willow noted, blushing slightly.

"That's oddly progressive, for the Watchers anyway," Buffy noted.

"We Watchers GENERALLY try to stay out of Slayers romantic lives," Giles noted, ignoring how he had argued with Buffy over Angel...

Buffy just gave him a LOOK.

"I guess that's why Lizzie was never convicted of anything?" Xander wondered. "The Watchers organization covered it all up."

"Huh, the vampiress escaped?" Willow noted.

"Yes, Nance and Lizzie would continue hunting her for some years after," Giles agreed. "They never found her."

"What was the vampire's name?" Buffy asked curiously.

"Carmilla." Giles said dryly.

"WHAT?!" Willow yelped.

To be continued...?

Notes: Just a short bit I wanted to get written up. The idea that Lizzie's parents were 'monsters' was also covered by author Cherie Priest, who did a pair of books on her, Maplecroft and Chapelwood.

At SOME point I'd like to do a full story on Lizzie Borden: Vampire Hunter. And a Carmilla vs Buffy story too.
