Chapter 26

More Talks with Eren

Evelyn headed into the hospital the next day. She felt relieved that Reiner was home, but Pieck confirmed at breakfast the two had together there were plans to go to Pardis, but not anytime soon to get the Founding Titan. Evelyn had decided then and there. She wouldn't go home less Reiner came with or after he transferred his Titan.

Evelyn got to the hospital. She was happy to have her husband home. Reiner had a meeting at the headquarters and would probably be home late. Evelyn had promised him a dinner for just them. Reiner had smiled at the thought. Anita came over as Evelyn picked up the files that were on her desk. She had become one of the Head of Nurses under Anita's training. Anita promised that she would work something out if she headed back to Paradis.

"There's a patient asking for you. He's one of the soldiers that came injured from the battlefield." Anita said, handing her a folder. Evelyn took it and looked at it. It was noted his name was Krueger and had a missing leg and his eye was lost in the war.

"Poor guy. Wonder how he knows me." Evelyn said, closing the file.

"I don't know. He is cute." Anita said. Evelyn elbowed her friend, making her laugh. Anita let Evelyn know where the patient was. Evelyn knocked on the door.

"Hello. I'm Evelyn..." Evelyn froze and the file slipped out of her hands and fell to her feet. Eren sat on the bed with his eye wrapped and his leg missing. "Eren?"

"Close the door." Eren said, his voice sounding rough. Evelyn closed the door and locked it.

"What are you doing? Why are you not healing?" Evelyn said, coming up to him and grabbing his chin. Eren pulled away.

"Stop treating me like your our mother." Eren snapped. Evelyn put her hands on her hips and glared at Eren. Eren couldn't believe how much she looked like their mother with that look.

"You're avoiding the question. Why the hell aren't you healing?" Evelyn growled. Eren flinched but sighed.

"I'm stopping the healing for now. This is all part of my plan." Eren said. Evelyn sighed and sat down on one of the chairs.

"And you're not willing to tell me everything." Evelyn said. Eren shook his head.

"Have you found out anything about the Warhammer Titan?" Eren asked.

"The Tybur family has possession of it, but they don't live here. Rumar going around there is a festival coming soon but not sure if the Tybur's will be here." Evelyn said.

"Being the wife of the War Chief, you should know some stuff." Eren grumbled.

"You really think they tell me stuff. It took me a year or two to earn the trust of most of the people here. I'm still looked down on as the Island Whore. I'm protected because Reiner was my protector." Evelyn said, crossing her arms.

"And I'm sure you were seduced by him." Eren said.

"You knew I had a crush on him during my Cadet years. Guess he did as well, and it just worked in both our favors. Now if we're done, I got a job to do." Evelyn said, standing up. Eren grabbed her arm.

"Just be ready when I tell you. I plan to bring the Scouts here, but not yet." Eren said. Evelyn looked at him.

"Does Captain Levi know where you went along with the others?" Evelyn said.

"No. I left without a word. They don't know where I'm here. But just be careful of Zeke. He's working behind Marley's back. And don't think of bringing the traitor back with us." Eren said. Evelyn pulled her arm free.

"It's not up to you, Eren. Now I got to go." Evelyn left the room. Evelyn went through the day in a haze.

'If Eren brings the Scouts here and I can get out. I wonder if there's a way, we can take all the Titans with us. That would weaken Marley. Reiner would go willing.' Evelyn went to a window and looked out the window. 'Maybe. Just maybe. We could make a deal with both the Island and Marley where we wouldn't have to start the Rumbling. But what is Zeke's plan. He's really keeping hush hush about it but that's a traitorous offense if he is caught. He's being smart about it. Does he have allies working with Paradis. Guess I'm gonna have to do some looking and find a way to outwit both my brothers.

That night. Reiner came home to a house smelling like delicious food. Evelyn came to greet him.

"The food smells good." Reiner said.

"It does." Evelyn said as Reiner presses a kiss to her forehead. He saw she had a worried look on her face.

"What is it?" Reiner said. Evelyn smiled up at him. Reiner didn't notice that the smile didn't match her eyes.

"I'm fine. Just was a long day at work. Let's go eat." Evelyn said. Reiner wrapped an arm around Evelyn, and they walk towards the dining room. Evelyn was going over plans in her head, but she had no intention yet to tell Reiner what she was planning till she had everything figured out.

AN: Sorry for the long wait. Now. Evelyn knows Eren is at the hospital. I am hinting on my plans for the coming chapters. I got a lot of plans. Till next time.
