Ruby walked alongside Blake, the two were in costume: Ruby dressed as a Vampire with false fangs sticking out while Blake dressed as a witch, her cat ears sticking out of her hat. The couple walked hand in hand towards their favorite coffee shop.
"So… Blake! What's this surprise you want to show me" Ruby asked with a cheeky grin, she figured out what was the surprise her girlfriend had in store for her and Blake knew it.
"You'll see!" Blake replied as they continued down the street towards their destination.
The couple walked through a Halloween festival filled with ghosts, ghouls, werewolves, pirates, warlocks, and more. Festival goers of all ages from adults chatting away waiting for a horror movie fest about to start and eating food stalls to children trick or treating. Ruby loved the atmosphere that night radiated. Fall leaves mixed with cheers and laughs. Despite the street party, their destination was just a bit out of the way.
Finally, just outside the festival, was their coffee shop. On the glass door was a closed sign with a note that said: "reserved for a party".
Blake chuckled "Okay Ruby, close your eyes" She then gave her a wink.
Ruby chuckled back. "Okay okay I will!" with that, Ruby closed her eyes.
Blake opened the door and led Ruby in. After a couple of steps, she told Ruby to open her eyes. When she did, she was greeted with a wonderful surprise.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUBY!"
All of her friends and family were there, Yang who was dressed as a slasher villain with a hockey mask, Weiss who was dressed as a cheerleader, Nora who was dressed as Frankenstein's monster, Ren who was dressed as a pirate, Jaune who dressed as a Zombie, Oscar who was dressed as an archer, Tai who had a silly meat cleaver in his head, and Qrow who was had a silly butcher knife on his head. Even though she figured it out already, it still was a loving feeling, making her tear up just a bit.
"Guys… gee thanks!" Ruby and Yang gave each other a warm hug. Yang then led Ruby to a table that had a Red birthday cake with eighteen candles on it. Blake came behind Ruby and whispered into her ear.
"Make a wish, Ruby!"
Ruby whispered back. "I got everything I could ever want right here!"
Ruby gave Blake a quick kiss on the cheek and blew out the candles. The Birthday party was filled with laughter from games, past stories, and gifts she was given. After the night was over Ruby truly felt lucky as she considered that night the best birthday ever.
