Wednesday learned the two most important things about this world. One is that there are devils born from humankind's collective fear of animals, objects or an abstract concept. that the more people fear something, the stronger the devil that fear represents would be. And two, there are devil hunters like what had Kobeni told her.
Devil hunters were classified into two. first are the public safety agents who work for the government for huge sums of payment and other benefits, they wear reinforced business suits as their uniform. They were like detective monster hunters, they are dispatched to investigate devil attacks, their territories and identify what devil caused it and find clues about it's whereabouts and weaknesses so they could slay them. Then there are the private contract hunters who function very similarly to their government goon counterparts, they're like your mercenary to your national army grunt.
Kobeni now freshly showered and clothed in garments the gothic girl miraculously found inside the bath left by the previous guests. told Wednesday and Enid that devil hunters make pacts with devils in order to gain a fraction of their power for either a light or heavy price, depending on what the demon demands the human to trade with. With their newfound abilities they have a better chance of surviving and winning fights against devils.
The devil hunting job is a career Wednesday always dreamed to have…. She could barely mask her smirk and excitement.
"Unregistered contracts are illegal and violators can be punished by either long term sentence or death" Kobeni replied to the two other girls. At first she did not believe their claims that they were from a different parallel earth where devils don't exist. Instead, mystical creatures and beings from folklore and ancient myth exists like werewolves, vampires and mermaids. But judging from their lack of knowledge and seemingly honest confusion with terms like devil hunters and devils, she's now beginning to believe their story.
Wednesday learned from her that she is a former devil hunter, but ended up quitting because she feared for her life despite being at death's door multiple times as Kobeni told her. She was forced to work as a devil hunter to support her brother's college education as she was forced by her parents unless she sold herself….
That made Wednesday quake with scorn and disgust… the idea of someone's parents forcing them to act or be someone against their will or choice is something the raven haired girl really hates, she glanced back at Kobeni who was visibly distressed and hurt with tears leaking down her face remembering all the times her parents treated her like shit.
Kobeni shot Wednesday a look, her sitting figure who was now clad with a fresh set of clothes consisting of a black and white turtleneck, a black cardigan and an ebony knee length skirt that nicely accented her ivory legs. Then glanced at Enid who also discarded her blood stained school uniform and got a sympathetic nod from her.
"Your parents actually remind me of mine. My mother kept forcing me to go after this awful summer camp and chase after boys I don't like so she could look successful to her side of the family and friends."
"Everyday we would fight and yell over my decisions as a person and how I don't want to be her trophy. All she cares about is her image!"
"But none of matters now because you saved our asses, you're amazing!" Enid beamed.
"You were so cool and awesome yesterday!" Enid complimented. "No wonder you mananged to survive this long!"
"Yes, I am very impressed with your acrobatic and fighting skills. You inflicted major lacerations on that monster with nothing but a simple kitchen knife." Wednesday continued. "With that, you have my kudos."
"If only it would stop sealing it's wounds shut."
Kobeni smiled in gratitude and Thing gave her a thumbs up. "Gosh, your world is so bizarre." Kobeni muttered as she stared at the amputated hand that had a mind of it's own.
"Feeling's mutual." Both of them responded
"So how did he end up like that?" Kobeni asked while pointing her index finger at Thing. "Is he like your pet or something?" Curious because it somehow reminded her of the Hell Devil and Ghost Devil as they mostly manifested as hands.
"He was actually my cousin whom I accidentally killed while were playing dodgeknife…" Wednesday said "He bled to death and we performed a ritual to resurrect him but only as a hand"
Kobeni was now rendered speechless. What kind of family does she belong to? why would a teenager and her cousin agree to throw real sharpened knives at each other for fun?.
And Magic? As in spells and witchcraft? She was stunned as much as the duo she was with. Kobeni saw the hand throw possibly the most recognizable gesture of defiance or mockery at the pigtailed woman while she smirked with mischief.
As they're this discussing this, the news blared in the television. It was about yesterday noon's incident, showing the raging fire in the night along with devil hunters sent in to investigate the destruction caused by the Rat Devil and it's fight with the three. Clean-up personnel are sent to mop up the gallons of devil blood and guts while fire fighters scampered from their trucks to extinguish the raging flames.
"I think I'm gonna puke…" Enid muttered weakly after seeing the badly maimed and burnt remains of the creature at the television.
"They're so going to fire me after this…." Kobeni complained.
"How did we get out there alive anyway Wednesday? Did you manage to kill it?" Enid questioned.
Wednesday swallowed the saliva pooling inside her mouth. Would she tell her the truth about who killed it? Or would she lie to her that she slayed the beast. Her pride fought with her moral honesty, she hated defeat from a challenge she would do anything to win a fight. But she did not want the blonde wolf-girl to lose her trust from her, she was her only true friend and family. Atleast for now.
"That's a matter for another day or later." She firmed.
She dug her hand inside her freshly cooked bowl of popcorn and stuffed the snacks in her mouth. The room dimly lit by the light of the television, she watched the film with gleam in her eyes.
"No… I am morbin you!" The man in the television yelled as his face transformed grotesquely. His nose deformed hideously while his face aged greatly with wrinkles, he snarled at his opponent baring his now serrated fangs and without warning he charged at him with his claws extended.
"Oh my god…. Such exquiste cinematography and story…." the light blue haired girl praised while tears streaked down her cheeks the light from the device illuminating it. Her train of pleasure was interrupted by the sudden ring of the doorbell.
Groaning in annoyance she lousily shifted her hips and rose from the couch, she grated her feet on the floor and slouched as she reached the door knob. And upon opening the contraption she was greeted by a tall Caucasian man of American nationality, his wavy chestnut hair covered in filth matted in the dark. His innocent like face etched with confusion.
The woman stared at the stranger with a blank expression, her icy eyes piercing in the dim back-lighting. She tilted her head then smiled. "Long way from home I presume?" She asked the boy in fluent English.
"Yeah… I just woke up somewhere here with no idea how I got in Japan. I can't remember anything prior at all" The man replied, somewhat surprised that a Japanese school girl spoke English in a clear accent. Or what he thought was a school girl as his bulging eyes examined her clothing.
"Come in…." She invited with her smile unfading. The boy was hesitant at first because of this mysterious girl living in an abandoned apartment block surrounded by unruly vegetation and metal junk, and the fact that he smelled something inhuman with her. But he's pretty sure he can handle her if she were to be a threat.
Entering the dimly lit room, the boy looked around to see nothing but empty aging tiled walls and a dusty red couch begging to be cleaned and in front of it was an old CRT TV from the 90s like time itself froze.
He wondered why a girl like her was living in such a place. Where are her parents? Her Family?
Before they could move another step, the girl stopped and looked around the room as she was sensing something. Then she looked at her guest and said "Were you being followed here?" she questioned again in English.
He nods in disagreement as he eyed her, completely baffled and intrigued by the girl's bizarre lifestyle and scent.
She snorted at him, clearly not believing him at all as she stomped away towards the door.
"I swear I wasn't followed" he protested as she tailed her along the building's dank and dark hallways, his enhanced vision and senses allowed him to trek in the pitch black dark where towering trees completely blocked the moonlight from passing through the windows. He called out for the woman as he lost track of her.
Then suddenly he saw the recognizable shine of a flashlight coming from the left side of a dead end, as it was followed by a blood curdling scream of a man getting ripped to shreds.
He saw the silhouette of a clear feminine figure with fingers ending in savage claws tearing him apart against the flashlight's beam on the wall in front…. It was her… with that he sprinted towards her and was met with the same girl except now, her pupils were vertical slits like a cat as blood dripped down her visceral fangs and claws, her skin now white as ash and ears elongated and pointed.
she was a vampire…. The Vampire Devil…
He shouted in fright while she tilted her head to avoid a speeding bullet from behind nearly missing the American in front of her, then swiftly clawed the entrails out of a suited man wielding an axe that bursts from the dark room's door on her left, thinking he could ambush her. She turned around to face the shooter who now had two more of his companions side by side aiming their puny little handguns at her and pulled the trigger.
She swiftly caught three bullets in a fraction of a second with her palm and pitched them back to their senders, hitting them square at their chests and not even letting blood leave their bullet wounds she already closed the distance between them and drove her clawed fist on the middle one's belly as her hand exited his back and slammed his limping form against the left side devil hunter with sufficient force to cave the wall killing both instantly as she yanked away her bloodied sleeve from the corpse. She then proceeds to decapitate the last hunter on the group with her swift claws before he could even blink then clutched his head and fidgeted it like a ball in her hand
On the corner of her eye the chestnut haired boy was unable to process what he had witnessed while she whistled playfully, then she shifted her gaze to the devil hunter who was clutching his hanging guts in agony beside the boy whom she let finish reloading his gun with his right hand alone before aiming it at her a devilish smirk formed on her bloodied lips before hurling the head with enough force against his resulting in both exploding in a mess of gore, bone fragments and brain matter that splattered both her and the American as the lifeless body thudded against the bloodied floor.
"damn devil hunters! Always interfering with my movie time, especially that this time they're stormin' my place while I'm watching Morbman: The Morbinton Chronicles!" She growled in Japanese. She stared at the boy's eyes and grinned sadistically.
"If they'll interfere with the Morb-Marathon then they'll get morbed!" She boasted "Watch and learn boy! I'll show you how the Vampire Devil herself morbs!"
She turned backwards and bared her claws beside her hips as she huffed with bloodlust and excitement.
"It's Erin' Time!"
