A week later, He meets the mayor who is searching for the missing children. Realizing he is the same man who stole the children, The mayor wanted to take his revenge on him. He pretended to be friendly with him and apologized to him for refusing to pay him the full sum by offering him the biggest barrel of the best wine he got in his village.
Rattengott had never tasted wine before but gladly accepted the offer.
They sat down and the mayor poured wine into his cup to drink with. While Rattengott was busy drinking many cups of wine, he asked him questions about his magic. He asked if his magic could change his size from biggest to smallest. Having become drunk from wine, Rattengott decided to show off a bit with his magic.
Rattengott turns back into his true form and uses his magic to grow his size bigger and bigger until he reaches the highest of the skies. He then shrunk his size smaller and smaller until he was nothing more than a tiny seed.
Rattengott asked if there were more cups for him to drink with and the mayor sadly told him there were no more cups for him to drink with but he could drink the whole barrel for himself by opening the cork from the barrel. Rattengott was so drunk that he had forgotten his mistake and leapt inside the barrel so he could have more wine for himself. The crafty mayor quickly sealed the cork tight, trapping the legendary rat monster inside the barrel.
Finally realizing his mistake, Rattengott begged to be let out but the mayor refused and demanded to know where the village's children he had kidnapped. When he refused, The mayor dug a big hole and buried the barrel inside. He told him he could never be free until he revealed what happened to the missing children. From that on, The mayor watched over the buried barrel and waited for him to finally answer.
50 years have passed, The mayor is now a very old man but is so blinded by his revenge that he refuses to leave the buried barrel behind and waits for his answer. He continued to wait and wait until he heard a voice from the barrel that said he had finally given up and he would tell him where the children were.
The mayor was delighted now that the ratcatcher would answer his questions so he opened the cork and Rattengott was freed from the barrel. He catches a few moments to breathe and he transforms back into his default form and normal size.
He explained to the mayor that he had sent the children to many towns and villages he could find but he would never find them because the children now live in better places and they did not need to return to their old homes. The mayor's smile turns to a frown and angrily scoffs at him that he will find the lost children and he will make them return to their old home by force.
Rattengott pointed out that 50 years have passed and the children will be now too old to be considered children. He stood up and said that the rats remain unprotected and uncared for 50 years because their beloved god is trapped in a barrel. The elderly mayor was startled by his eerie response and asked what he was going to do now.
Rattengott let out a quiet chuckle then turned into a mad giggle and finally a hysterical laughter as he slowly began to transform into endless colonies of demonic rats that swarmed all over the place. The frightened mayor realized the biggest mistake he made and tried to escape but the rats attacked him and his body turned into a skeleton as they bit and scratched him many times.
They abandon his corpse and move on to many villages, towns, cities and countries so they can spread death to their victims.
Driven mad after being trapped in a barrel for many years, Rattengott unleashes a deadly curse on humanity.
Plague.
