A/N: I have just written this tonight (31/10/23) and am shattered so at some point I will come back and edit anything I don't particularly like as I'd like to get this up as it is dedicated to the betrayal of the Potters on this night 42 years ago on this date. So please forgive me for any mistakes. I may make this into mini oneshots of when the Marauders were young/ Harry growing up and any other bits and pieces at any point of the series. Hope you enjoy!

31st October, 1981

"Hey Wormtail," James smiles at his friend, only receiving a nod in response. Which was odd. He usually at least said something when he came in. Lily enters behind Peter, taking a seat next to James. She smiles at Peter, noticing his nervousness.

"Hey Pete, you alright?" She asks, starting to suspect something. He sits in the chair across from them.

"Y-yes, h-how?" He stutters slightly, avoiding eye contact.

"You aren't yourself. Sure you're okay?" She questions again, not convinced.

"Of c-course, Lily." He replies, shifting in his seat. James eyes him up. This isn't like his friend at all.

"You know you can tell us, don't you Wormy?" He says to the skittery boy across from him – he'd always been skittery since the Marauders met. He receives a nod in response. Lily stands up, leaving the room while muttering something about tea.

She returns with three mugs of tea and biscuits for the three of them. James and Pete were having a conversation about Quidditch, which she chipped bits and pieces into, before talking about Harry.

"Where's your boy?" Pete manages to not stutter, seeming so concerned about Harry, Lily and James' only son.

"He's having a nap in the nursery upstairs." James grins, always so proud to show his son off to anyone he could. "Lils had just put him down when you arrived. You know Pete, he said his first word today!"

"T-that's good, I s-suppose." Pete forces a half-hearted smile. "W-what did he say?"

"It was 'da' he said," James grins, unable to hide how pleased he was.

"Was not! It was 'ma' he said!" Lily smacks his arm lightly.

"Whatever you say, Lily Pads." James rolls his eyes at his wife.

"I b-best h-head away now." Pete stands up, hurriedly. "T-thank y-you." He rushes off, slamming the door behind him, leaving the Potters in silence.

"He was being really odd yesterday and today, wasn't he?" Lily asks James, her brows furrowing.

"He was. Something isn't sitting right with me. Plus he disappears at random times and we don't see him for days at a time." James stands up, starting to pace the living room.

"It's probably the war that's getting to him. But we'll keep an eye on him," Lily tries to brush off the unsettling feeling that is knotting her stomach.

"Remus! Listen, please!" Sirius yells, fighting a losing battle with one of his best friends. "Something isn't right!"

"Sirius! You're being paranoid!" Remus pinches the bridge of his nose. "They're going to be fine! No one apart from us and Wormtail know where they are!"

"Well, I'm not paranoid! I know what I'm on about!"

"Only because you get 'gut feelings' when you're paranoid, does not mean it's right!" Remus finally yells. Sirius flinches slightly."Sorry."

"Look Remus. Something isn't right. Wormtail has been different."

"He's been skittery since the war began. But we shall keep an eye on him."

The snake slithered along the filth covered floor, brushing against people's legs. Her master hisses a command at her, which makes her stop at his most loyal supporters.

"You three," He points his glare at them. "Better look after tonight while I complete this mission." They nod. "You all are dismissed."

James entertains Harry with colourful smoke being released from his wand. The little boy laughs, trying to catch each puff of smoke as it appears. Lily is busy moving baby toys out of the way, before picking up the raven haired child.

"He really is your child, my dear." She smiles, staring into her son's emerald green eyes – undeniably her eyes – but her husband's features.

"As much my child as yours," he smiles as he watches his wife with their son. "Bedtime for Bambi is it?"

"Yes it is, Prongs." Lily smiles, readjusting Harry on her hip. She kisses James on the nose, catching him off guard. Neither of them hear the front gate creak. Oblivious to the outside world, they fuss over Harry. The front door clicks open, a gust of wind pushes the living room door open. The couple go silent, the smiles wiping off their faces. James grips his wand, stepping out into the hall, coming face to face to the one they'd tried for so long to hide from – Voldemort. He raises his wand, attempting to hold him off.

"Lily, take Harry and go!" He yells. "I'll hold him off." Lily doesn't move, frozen to the spot. "It's him! Run!"

She shoves by, racing up the stairs and into the nursery. Thump. Silence. She lets out a sob, resting her son into the cot before shoving what she can behind the door to try to hold him back. Not like it would make much of a difference. Anything to keep her son alive.

"Harry, mum loves you. Dad loves you. Be safe. Be strong. We love you." A tear streaks her face. The door blasts open behind her, making her stand swiftly, turning to face him.

"Step aside." He demands her. She stands firmly in her place. He raises his wand. Before LIly could comprehend what was happening, a green light hit her in the chest. And it all went black. He then advances on the vulnerable, helpless child.

Sirius – followed closely by Remus – corners Peter. They both raise their wands, threatening to cast a spell at any moment.
"How? How could you?" Sirius yells. "They were your friends!"

"They trusted you, you rat!" Remus half-heartedly yells. Peter cowers slightly away from them, not saying a word.

"Just cower then, you traitor!" Sirius yells louder. "They didn't deserve such a thing! Selling them out!" Remus tries to pull him away, wanting to control the situation. "Remus! He deserves it!"

"Sirius. Control yourself. We shall get the rat what he deserves. But not here." Remus tugs on his friend's dust covered sleeve. "Muggles."

"And? He killed Lily and James! And you're okay with that?"

"No! Of course I'm not! Calm down and we can talk!" Remus grips onto Sirius' shoulders, attempting to knock sense into him. "Not here, not now. We need to process what has happened. But calmly." An explosion suddenly goes off, knocking Sirius and Remus away from where they stood. Remus hits his head on the concrete, causing him to black out. Sirius blacks out for a moment, before regaining consciousness. He rolls over, sitting up. He looks over to his side.

"Remus!" He shakes Remus slightly, with no response. Figures start to enclose around the pair. Sirius pulls himself to his feet, with his wand raised.

"Sirius Black, come with us." An auror demands. He doesn't move. Aurors grab him, shoving him away, leaving Remus on the ground alone. Other aurors and healers go to where Remus lay on the ground, hiding him from view. He fought and fought to get out of the grasp of the people holding him with no luck. There was only one place he was doomed to go – Azkaban.

A/n: I am so sorry for the terrible ending, I am totally exhausted now. I promise I will come back and edit this another day! I am always looking to find what I need to improve on so please let me know what you liked/disliked and where you think this could be improved. Part 2?
