Trigger Warning: Mentions Of Suicide Attempt

Hearing Sheppard talk to Rosie, Evan realizes that the woman that is currently sitting on the floor of that quarantine room, isn't the same woman that he said goodbye to five years ago back on Earth.

It is easy to see that Rosalie has changed, not just physically but mentally as well. One can still see the kindness in her eyes that she has always had, however, the light that once existed there, and that gave her almost a child-like wondering look, was now dead and gone.

Evan is focused back on the conversation when Rosie tells Sheppard about the time that he almost lost her. Remembering that night is something that Evan always tried very hard not to do, but hearing her tell Sheppard what happened makes him tear up and his heart to break a little bit more.

The doors behind him open and he quickly wipes the tears away, knowing that is Weir coming back. She asks how Rosalie is and Evan tells her that she's talking with Sheppard, before excusing himself, needing a moment to pull himself together.

Evan walks to one of the many balconies that lines the outside of the city, sitting on the bench and letting out a breath, before remembering the night that almost changed both their lives forever.

Flashback

Evan always hated the night shift, not because he couldn't sleep, but because there was never anything to do. Finishing out a few reports that had been left to the last possible minute, something that he was more than guilty of, he's saved from continuing them when his phone rings.

-"Lorne."

-"Hey, it's me."

-"Hey Rosie. What're you doing up so late?"

-"Couldn't sleep."

-"You okay?"

-"Yeah, I was just thinking about our friendship and how grateful I am to be able to call you my best friend. Thank you for always being there for me whenever I needed someone and I'll never forget all that you've done for me, Evan."

-"Rosie what's going on? Are you okay?"

-"I'm fine. Nothing's going on. I just wanted to make sure you know how much you mean to me."

-"Rosie, you're my best friend, I'm always going to be there for you, no matter what."

-"I know. You should get back to work. Goodbye Evan."

Something's not right, Evan could feel it deep down in his gut. Rosie never says goodbye, it's just to final of a word. Instead, she prefers to say "See you soon", which in her eyes, it's more like a promise.

Running out of his small office, Evan runs into his Commanding Officer and tells him that he needs to check on something off base, before he rushes out of the SGC, hoping and praying that he's wrong.

That night still haunts him, especially because he knows that if he hadn't gotten there when he did, it would've absolutely destroy him. Losing her has always been one of his biggest fears and that night, that fear almost became a reality.

He remembers exactly how it felt when he saw her in the bathtub, her wrists slit open and blood dripping from them onto her blue jeans, turning them into a crimson mess. He remembers the smell of blood that permeated the bathroom.

He remembers how sad and broken she looked. He remembers how she sobbed when he scolded her, while bandaging her wrists, and how his own tears melted into hers as she cried on his chest, begging for his forgiveness.

He would've given anything to go back in time and be there before she even got that far, but all he could do was make sure she knew she was loved and that he was always going to be there.

Evan takes a deep breath and wipes away the tears, knowing that he has to return to the overview gallery and the last thing he wants is for Weir to think that he can't be professional about all of this. If she thinks that, then she might ask him to leave and he doesn't want to leave Rosie, even if she doesn't know that he's there.
