When Glory next awoke, she was in a comfortable bed inside a small room inside a nice, quiet building. She looked around slowly, noting that the place looked vaguely familiar, then groaned and tried to get up.

"I wouldn't recommend that," a voice said, and she looked over to see Guava, the Rainwing doctor, looking over her, "Your body needs a lot of rest, and a lot of time to recover. I've fixed your wing as best I can, but it's clear you were exhausted. Don't push yourself, especially when you've just now awakened."

Still feeling sore, tired, and altogether miserable, she complied and set herself back on the soft bed. "How did I get here?" she asked.

"A pair of Nightwings that decided to go back to their homes before the evacuation order was lifted found you," he told her, "They got help, of course, and you were brought here."

"I see…" she blinked tiredly, "Is that all?"

"They said they found the town hall destroyed," he answered, "Along with the remains of something that they could only describe as 'not-quite-a-dragon', or something like that."

"Good," Glory grunted. That meant she hadn't dreamt it. "Is there anything else? There were other dragons missing…Tarsier…"

Guava shook his head, "I don't know anything about that," he answered, "Although there is another dragon here that has been clamoring to see you. I've barely been able to keep him out, due to his wounds and yours, but since he's probably sitting outside waiting anyway he might as well come in."

Without any more prompting than that, the door opened, and in walked a familiar Nightwing assassin.

"Deathbringer!" Glory cried, leaping to her feet, then she immediately groaned and fell back down onto the bead.

"…And that's why," Guava mumbled, but was ignored as Deathbringer rushed to her side.

"Are you okay," Deathbringer asked her, looking her over, "You weren't bitten, were you? Guava said that…"

"I'm fine," she told him, "But you…I thought you were dead!"

"It got me good," he told her, revealing several wounds on his chest and legs that had been bandaged, "Just about hamstrung me and left me for dead. But it didn't finish the job. It seemed disinterested in me, once I was eliminated as a threat, almost like its attention was on something different."

"Yeah…" Glory shuddered a little, remembering the feel of its tongue on her face.

Deathbringer took one of her claws in his and smiled. "I'm just glad that you're okay. To me, that's all that matters."

She returned his smile with one of her own, bringing his claw to her cheek. "I am. And you are too. And no one else is going to get hurt," she gave a small laugh, "You know, I don't think I'll mind some of the more boring parts of being queen after this."

"Oh, I'm sure you will eventually," he smirked, "But for now, it's over."

"Thank the moons for that," she closed her eyes, snuggling into her bed, her exhaustion already returning. "And Deathbringer, thank you for keeping me safe."

Already she was drifting back to sleep, but she still felt the kiss he gave her cheek. "I always do."
