Angel of Vengenace
Chapter Eight:
Arrival
"You are aware of God and the Devil, I presume," Velkan began. Renamon nodded. "I thought so. Few people can miss those two these days," he said with a grin. "Well, it all starts with them…."
As she returned to the Makino home, Renamon found herself wondering about the things she'd learned. The war between Heaven and Hell sounded, in some ways, not all that unlike the way life in the Digital World had been for her and countless other Digimon. Fight or die. Load or be loaded. In some ways it was the rule of nature in just about any world: survival of the fittest.
It was the means by which the war was waged that left her reeling.
She looked out across the houses surrounding the Makino estate, considering the people within. How many would be pulled into such a war as that between Heaven and Hell? Would they join willingly? Would they be tricked into it, as so many Hellspawn had apparently been?
Renamon's place in the war was a question mark. She was the first Digital Hellspawn, so far as anyone in the know was aware. Velkan and the Yokai of the Hidden Quarter had never heard of Digimon. Cogliostro was sure that she hadn't made a deal with Malebolgia, or any of the other rulers in Hell. Why, she had no clue. But he had been firm in his belief.
"Oh, Renamon, you're back," Jenrya said as he stepped outside. "Ruki was looking for you. Everything ok?"
She nodded. "I was occupied with some recent discoveries. Nothing to worry about though," the Digispawn replied. "Anything happening here?"
"Nothing in particular. Cogliostro is…honestly, I'm not entirely sure what it is he's doing. He said he was going to look into more esoteric avenues of information about you. Whatever that means."
Renamon's ears twitched. Cogliostro was still an unknown in their lives. But Hellspawn seemed to be his field of expertise. How he came by that information he wouldn't say, but for now, he was trying to help.
"Anyone home?"
The two turned to see Guilmon making his way inside.
"Hello, Guilmon. What brings you here?" Renamon asked as the saurian smiled.
"Hey Renamon. Just figured I'd drop by. Takato is having a meeting with Yamaki, and there wasn't much for me to do. Azulongmon and the other Sovereign had sent over…I guess you'd call it an ambassador or something to represent the Digital World on Earth, and since most of the breaches between the two worlds tends to happen here in Japan…" he shrugged.
"So they finally found someone to fill the role, huh?" Henrya asked with a chuckle.
"I'm sorry?" Renamon was confused. An ambassador?
"The Sovereigns decided about a year after the D-Reaper incident to try to form ties with the real world. They formalized a governmental system and started negotiations with the UN. That was a day to remember, I can tell you."
"Zhuqiaomon still has some issues with humans, but he's getting better," Guilmon chipped in. "Takato and Yamaki have video conferences with he and Azulongmon every few weeks."
Renamon raised a brow behind her mask. Things had indeed changed in the years she had been dead.
"Any idea when they'll be done?" Ruki asked, emerging from the house.
"They'll call when things have wrapped up, most likely. They always do," Jenrya answered.
"We can ask them about it later," Renamon said, making her way inside. "For now, let's just be grateful that things are staying reasonably calm, considering the events of the last few days."
The gateway between the real world and the Digital one closed, and Zhuqiaomon and Azulongmon turned from it to look at one another.
"I still think this is idiotic. You know that, right?" the firebird snarked. Azulongmon rolled his eyes.
"Yes, I'm sure you've mentioned it more than a few times now," the Eastern Sovereign said with amusement.
"Just remember, if this comes back to bite us, I'm blaming you," Zhuqiaomon snorted. "Baihumon wanted my help in his quadrant. Let me know if the humans report any issues."
With a nod from the dragon, the phoenix headed off. The decision had at last been made for the ambassador, and Azulongmon was certain things would work out. Though even he would be the first to admit the candidate they had chosen had been one of the most peculiar individuals he'd met in some time. Still, if it helped foster good relations with Earth, he wouldn't complain.
Takato sat back in his chair while waiting for the gateway to open. Yamaki was on his way, and Guilmon had decided to go head over to Ruki and Renamon's place since there was little for him to do here.
"You seem settled in," Yamaki commented as he entered. Takato grinned.
"Hey, I've already been to the Digital World and we have our partners here, remember?"
"True," Yamaki nodded. "But this will be an official meeting. You never know what could go wrong on a day like this."
"Yamaki, let's not go looking for trouble, today, hmm? Things are a mess as it is, and I'd like to at least for today pretend that things are whatever counts for normal, alright?"
Yamaki raised a brow. Then sighed, nodding.
"Fair enough, Takato. How is Renamon settling in, anyway?
"Hard to tell. She's missed out on a lot, don't forget. She was always really the most stoic member of the group. And that mask she has now isn't helping me get a read on her in the least." Takato remarked.
Before Yamaki could say anything else, a shimmering light appeared, signalling the gateway opening on their side of the digital divide. Takato pulled himself from his seat quickly, and the two waited for the new ambassador's emergence.
"I apologize for the wait, gentlemen. The gateway has always been finicky," came a strong voice as the gateway widened enough to be stepped through.
"You're not wrong," Takato said with a chuckle. "It's nice to meet you, Mr. Ambassador."
The Digimon sank to a knee and raised a fist to his chest in salute. His ten golden wings and green armor glinting in the light.
"Please…. call me Seraphimon."
