Chapter 2: Rattling Locker
Max, Sydney, Kirby and the Ferrus Quintuplets were getting their things from their lockers for their next class. Suddenly, there was a loud rattling noise coming from down the hall. "What was that noise?" Wandella asked. "I think someone's locker must be stuck again. Let's go see." Max said.
As the group walked down the hall, they heard the rattling noise again. They turned to face the lockers, noticing one of them was rattling on its own, followed by additional scratching noises. "Okay, I'm just going out on a limb here, but lockers don't just rattle on their own, do they?" Zad asked. "No, they don't." Vandana said. "It's haunted!" Kirby cried. "Really? Another haunted accusation?" Sydney asked, unamused. "Let's open it and find out." Max said. "No! If you open that locker, something might leap out and get you!" Kirby cried. "Oh, you're being ridiculous, Kirby." Sydney said. "Go on, Max. Open it." Yeager said.
Max slowly and cautiously walked up to the rattling locker, gently grabbed the lock and opened the locker. Suddenly, something leapt out of the locker and pounced onto him. Kirby screamed like a little girl. "Uh, Kirby?" Max said. Kirby stopped screaming. "It's only a little kitten." Max said, holding out a little brown kitten. "Aw. Poor thing looks like it's been in that locker for days." Xena said. "It was. About 3 to 4 days." Max said, being able to tell from the feel of the kitten's body.
Later, the group reported the kitten to the Fujikawa Twins, who explained that the poor thing belonged to one of the students from their class. After calling the student to the office, he came to the office and picked up his beloved kitten. "Well, that's another mystery solved for us." Sydney said. "Yeah. What do you think will come next?" Yeager asked. "Who knows? In Copper Canyon, anything's possible." Max said.
