The moon hung low in the sky, its silver glow dimming the trees and casting long shadows across the forest floor.
A small black and silver NightWing was racing through the the thicket of dark trees, her egg clutched tightly in her talons as she flapped her wings and took to the sky. They wanted to smash her egg just because she had dared to fall in love with an IceWing. The war had been over for about a year now and Silverdawn was on the run with her unhatched dragonet inside.
"Just give it up Silverdawn," Dreamwhisper insisted, staring into her sisters dark green eyes as she quickly caught up to Silverdawn. "No Dream, you know that I will never give my unhatched dragonet to Queen Nighthunter!" Silverdawn shouted back looking over her shoulder at her sister, who watched her with sad dark blue eyes.
"Ok then. I'm coming with you, I'll help you and Leopard raise the dragonet." Dreamwhisper said, gazing at Silverdawn with a determined look on her face. "Are you sure about this Dream?" Silverdawn asked and Dreamwhisper nodded her head. "Ok then, we're heading to the IceWing Kingdom." Silverdawn explained to her sister, who nodded and the two NightWings flew the rest of the way in silence.
As the two dragons flew on, Dreamwhisper spoke up to break the silence. "So... what are you going to name the dragonet?" she asked. Silverdawn looked thoughtful. "Hmmm... both Leopard and I have decided to name her Mink," Silverdawn responded after a short while. "Ah, that's a cute name." Dreamwhisper said back.
"So... does Queen Storm know about you and Leopard?" she asked Silverdawn, who nodded her head in response. "Yeah she does, she's really happy about having her first grandchild." Silverdawn told her sister.
After those last few words, the two NightWings continued flying in silane. The only sound heard was the flapping of their wings and the various creatures of the night moving about below them.
The closer and closer they go to the IceWing Kingdom, the colder it seemed to get. As they drew closer to the border, Silverdawn stopped in mid-air, her mint-green eyes scanning the icy woods around them.
"Dawn?" Dreamwhisper questioned her sister, not exactly sure what was going on. "What's wrong? Why did we stop?"
Silverdawn was silent fore a few moments befe she sighed softly and turned to meet her sister's worried gaze.
"There's an invisible ice wall surrounding us, and the entrance to their palace." Was her only response to Dreamwhisper's question. "We need to find a way passed it: the egg will hatch soon and I want the little one to meet it's father too."
Dreamwhisper nodded at that, her sister had a good point. They needed to get passed this wall so they would be safe from the dragons hunting them, and so that her sister's egg could hatch in a safe place.
