"Of all the people you could invite to join us in watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show, you had to invite him," Ron Weasley attempted to stage whisper to my wife. "He probably has no more of a clue about what this thing is all about than I did the first time you brought me."
I stifled the attempt to roll my eyes at this paltry attempt to get me to bugger off. Was Mr. Weasley unaware I had grown up in the Muggle world? Or for that matter, that Muggle movie theaters became a large part of my life once I was old enough to make my own money? And to add insult to injury, this clueless oaf wasn't even wearing the right attire for the character he insisted that he was dressed as.
"Who exactly are you dressed as, Sev?" Harry asked, attempting to break our small group's attention away from the impending explosion of argument
.
"You're dressed like Harry," Ron scoffed, rolling his eyebrows in much the same manner as Miss Brown usually did.
She was starting to rub off on him more and more and not in a good way. It was kind of sad, if I had to admit it to myself about feeling sorry for him. Not that I would ever tell anyone. Ron Weasley wasn't an unintelligent young man by any means but this new version of him might as well have been a chimp for how he acted. I could see Lavender shaking her head and sharing a look with Hermione which seemed rather strange.
"No," I told him, shaking my head sadly in resignation
"Yes," Ron said, moving forward as the line inched toward the theater doors. "See you've got glasses and regular clothes on."
I raised an eyebrow at this insinuation. "Regular for whom?"
"For normal people," Ron replied before he'd thought about what he said and had the decency to look sheepish. "Well, I still say you are trying too much to look like Harry."
"If you must know, Mr. Weasley," I said, trying to sound nonchalant, "I am in fact dressed as one Majors."
"Who?" Lavender asked, causing the group to break into laughter.
"Sev means Brad," Hermione answered patiently, trying to be considerate. "He's dressed as Brad and I'm dressed as Janet."
Harry gave my outfit an appraising look.
"Have you seen the show before, Sev?" he asked, earning a look of discomfort.
I was still got uncomfortable when he used my first name.
I nodded.
"When I was growing up the movie theater or for that matter any sort of theater was like an escape from reality," I told my former students who were looking at me dumbfounded.
Hermione knew what my younger life was like. As did Harry. But this was news for the rest of them.
"You know Rocky Horror Picture Show?" Ron asked, challengingly.
I nodded in response, moving forward as the line inched through the doors. Who knew that the midnight showing was such a popular one with the youths of today? It truly had been a while since I had seen the show it would seem.
"You don't have to answer him, Sev," Hermione said, putting a hand gently upon my elbow. "You don't owe him an explanation of anything."
"But it would be my pleasure to," I told her before I turned back to Ron Weasley. "What exactly is it that you would like to know, Mr. Weasley?"
"Favorite song?" he asked, thinking I was joking about knowing the musical. It had been a while since I'd seen the show but my favorite song never changed.
"The Time Warp," I answered plainly. "Yours?"
"The Time Warp."
"See you two have something in common," Lavender said, sounding excited and sharing a look with Hermione. "look at that!"
I caught the look and frowned. Were the two of them up to something?
Ron too raised an eyebrow, having seen it too. He must be aware of the look that Lavender and Hermione just shared too.
I caught Ron's eyes and we seemed to be thinking along the same lines. That something seemed rather fishy with these two women. But neither one would ever admit that we agreed on such a thing out loud.
We had finally reached the doors leading into the viewing theaters which seemed like some sort of a miracle to me. It felt like the line would never move fast enough. I could hear Lavender and Ron whisper arguing as we took our seats. Then Ron switched seats with Lavender so that I had him on one side and Hermione on the other.
A rather odd place to find myself if I didn't think so myself. Before I could mention it Hermione, the lights in the movie theater dimmed. I settled in my seat as the MGM lion roared and the first strains of Science Fiction/Double Feature started to play. Then before I knew it, I was singing along to the song with Ron Weasley of all people!
Perhaps Lavender and Hermione had been onto something.
This became a bonding experience for myself and Mr. Weasley. I smiled as I thought of how happy this would make Hermione, Rose, and Hugo. Perhaps, I could be friends with Ron Weasley, after all.
I hope you all enjoyed A Strange Bonding Experience as much as I enjoyed writing it. I would like to thank everyone who beta-read this story for me. So thank you all very much!
