It Happened Quiet

By SMYGO4EVA

Clouds covered the sky as the night brought upon the witching hour.

She was safe.

Sakura was safe, far from the clutches of whatever the Matou family awaited for her.

Kariya made sure of that, with scars reopened. Even with his weak magecraft, his form bruised, bloody, and battered, he managed to greet her with open arms, hold her tight, never to let go.

Lancelot stood before them, as the servant Berserker; he combatted their enemies with a dark, fiery rage, his weapon stained with their blood. He was sure to protect and serve his Master, Kariya, and the little Sakura in their care.

No one had sought vengeance, not just yet, and that would wait another time. Kariya was aware that he had a target on his back, one that kept anyone from getting close to him. He had someone now.

In the past, he would have laughed at such an impossible dream, but now…? Now, he was barely able to keep his heart from pounding as he looked upon Lancelot.

The air was bitter, cold, but that did not matter.

Lancelot lifted his head, taking the battered iron helmet off, revealing himself, only to Kariya. The little Sakura slept soundly in Kariya's arms, dreaming no longer of nightmares.

"You're safe, my Master," said Lancelot, tired, but smiling.

"Yes…" Kariya said aloud, moving slowly and pressing himself close to Lancelot, a smile growing on his weary features. "Yes, we all are."

They were safe, for now. The battle for the Grail was still very much alive, but it would have to wait, as they had their own home to return to.
