For the first time in her life, Rin felt utter fury. It wasn't at her coworkers. It wasn't at the sukebans. Nor was it at the vile criminal who had hurt Sensei. Her servant and only link to the missing president. Well she felt some frustration but all those feelings paled in comparison to the smoldering anger building up inside of her. She turned to Iroha, who was looking away and trying to whistle.
"Iroha…"
"Yes, Vice President?" Iroha shyly looked over at her, trying to stay cool while under Rin's withering glare.
"Is that a giant tank?"
"Yes."
"A tank owned by your president?"
Iroha sighed deeply, "It's one of her super weapons. She was really eager to get her hands on something to trounce any tank on the battlefield."
"Well it will certainly trounce us," Rin said through gritted teeth, "What I want to know is, why is it in Wakamo's hands?"
"I can answer that~" Wakamo waved at them. Her tone was jovial as she spoke, "You see, I was minding my own business-"
"Bullfeathers!" Rin shouted in anger. She really didn't have time to deal with people dancing around questions right now. Especially not from terrorists.
"I was," Wakamo slightly whined, "When I stumbled upon this beauty right here," she gave the large Maus tank a good pat, "It was sitting all alone too. No one was around. So I thought it would be a waste to just leave it like that."
"So you stole it," Rin deadpanned.
"Yep~"
Rin sighed and leaned against Iroha's tank, "Why was it sitting there all by itself?"
"Makoto wanted to show it off," Iroha said, "But then Ibuki got hungry so she rushed everyone into the nearest bakery a couple of blocks away."
"You could have waited to eat when you got home!"
"But it's Ibuki," Iroha weakly defended herself, "So Makoto made this sign-"
"Which didn't work!"
"...She thought it would," even Iroha wasn't convinced by her own words.
"So she left a giant tank unguarded to buy snacks," Rin pinched the bridge of her nose, "How did Wakamo get enough sukebans to pilot that thing?"
"Oh most of it's mostly automated," Wakamo said, holding up a small book. "It's right here in the manual."
"...How did you get the manuel?" Rin's left eye twitched slightly.
"It was left on a table next to the tank," Wakamo said cheerfully, "There was a sticky note on it that said 'Kivotos conquering super weapon and how to use it. Do not steal'. It seems like you only need a few drives and such to get it up and running. How marvelous."
Rin was silent for a moment. Then she turned to Iroha's tank and slammed her head against it. Iroha didn't say anything. If she did, Rin would no doubt turn her anger on her. Secretly, she was just as angry but that went without saying when dealing with Makoto.
Rin turned back to Wakamo, "Be it as it may, we can't turn back now."
"I knew you'd say that," Wakamo said.
Then the Fox of Calamity snapped her fingers. Several sukebans started to pour out from both sides of the street next to her. Rin knew she had to be smirking underneath that mask. She had them right in the palm of her hands. A quick retreat might just be the right answer.
"You're not going anywhere~" Wakamo must have guessed her line of reasoning.
She pointed a finger right to them. The sukeban started to fire. Rin and the others gave out panicked cries as they did their best to get behind cover. The Maus tank fired and instantly, one of the Gehenna tanks went up in flames. Iroha started to pound on her tank in fear.
"Back up!"
The driver didn't need to be told twice. The two remaining tanks did their best to get out of the way. The other tank even tried to fire upon the Maus. Unfortunately, it did nothing to the tank. Not even a scratch.
Of course, this drew the attention of the Maus. The huge tank didn't have the same issues as its smaller cousin. When it fired, another tank went up in an explosion. The round easily piercing through the metal casing of the tank's armor. It was like cutting through paper. There was no resistance. More Gehenna students rolled out of the explosion or were pulled out of the wreck. Student durability was no joke.
Even so, Iroha did not want to go through that. Her hair would be singed in such fires. She was rather proud of her locks. It would be a great shame to lose them. So she kept pounding her fist on the tank, urging it to go faster. She barely had any time to do anything else.
Another boom sounded.
She yelped and ducked. The round just missed them, soaring overhead. It however struck the road behind them. The tank came to a stop as a large crater was where the clean street should be. She gulped and looked forward. Nothing but combat. Could they even win? She just shrugged. Well, a last stand seemed like the only choice. Iroha took in a deep breath and steeled her nerves. A moment of fighting was all she had.
"Fire!"
Just a ways forward, Chinatsu and Hasumi were firing away from behind a large piece of building. The two worked in tandem to take down any mooks that came close to them. Hasumi was actually impressed by how cool and collected Chinatsu was. She didn't act like most Gehenna students she met. Granted, most of them were delinquents rushing over the border but that was semantics. She was still a Gehennan so Hasumi wouldn't let her guard down entirely. Yet Chinatsu did seem like a good person. She had to remember to thank her later.
As she shot a sukeban in the head, she heard a flurry of footsteps to their side. She had just enough time to look and see Wakamo lining up a shot on Chinatsu to their right. Without thinking, she pushed the Gehenna girl back. The shot struck true on her chest, throwing Hasumi backwards. She had one trick up her sleeve though. She then unfurled her large wings to slow her down and take quick aim.
It felt like her body surged with energy as she lined up her shot. Without missing a beat, she fired a stronger bolt. Her energy was fueling the shot. It struck true, earning a yelp from Wakamo as she was also thrown off her feet by how strong it was. Hasumi rolled on the pavement as her breath, unable to stop. Wakamo, on the other hand, corrected her push back. She rolled in the air and landed on the side of the building with her feet. She instantly sprung off and landed on her feet on the ground.
The Fox of Calamity fired two shots that nailed a Valkyrie student before swerving out of the way of Yuuka's fire. The twin tailed student snarled as she tried the ever wise strategy of spraying and praying. Unfortunately, Wakamo dodged all of it with how swift she was. Chinatsu used that moment to try and get close for a good hit. This didn't work out well for her.
Wakamo moved too quickly. She simply grabbed her by the arm when she moved to fire. Then with a good bit of strength, simply pulled her off her feet, spun her around, and threw her right into Hasumi. The large girl had just gotten her second wind when the Gehennan medic was thrown right into her. The two fell to the ground in short order.
Wakamo giggled as she fired a couple of shots at them. Hasumi had quickly used her wings to shield her companion and herself. Yet the terrorist fox could hear her grunting all the same. The fox girl ducked out of the way of another barrage. This time it was done by none other than Suzumi who had caught up. The angelic student was more used to fighting people like her then some of the others. Yet Wakamo was a slippery student. She was thankful when Yuuka stood next to her when they tried to fire.
Again and again, Wakamo dodged their bullets like it was nothing. Her speed and dodging skills were impressive. It didn't help that her return fire made them flinch. Yuuka had put up a blue shield for herself to tank some of the shots, while Suzumi had to do her best to dodge her enemy's shots. One shot clipped her shoulder. She was nearly bowled over by it but kept her footing. Wakamo's shots hit harder then she thought.
It was time for her trump card. Suzumi grabbed one of her stun grenades. If she timed it right, she could get a good hit on Wakamo. Stunned, the group could take her out. So she threw it just at the right moment.
At least, she thought it was.
Wakamo noticed it immediately and turned her gun. It was so fast that Suzumi didn't even have time to move her head. The Fox of Calamity shot it and it exploded right in the duo's faces. Suzumi was blown off her feet and the last of Yuuka's shield went down. She let out a cry of panic as she covered her eyes, momentarily blinded.
"Don't worry," Pina shouted as she took up a position on a car's roof. Her gun trained on Wakamo, "I've got this."
Asuna and Megu ran out from the side as Pina did her best to spray Wakamo with as much lead as possible. All the fox did was leap backwards, out of the way of the bullets. Petals started to form around her as she landed. Pina's eyes widened slightly. It must be an ability. Every student had some sort of gimmick or ability to their own. Hopefully they could-
Wakamo fired. Several blasts, much stronger and faster than before, struck Pina. She yelped and was thrown a ways off of the car. Megu let out a feral yell as she tried to avenge her ally. Her flamethrower spat as much fire as she could. Wakamo simply backflipped a few times and shot once, hitting her in the head.
With Megu disoriented and the others picking themselves up, only Asuna was left at her best. Wakamo's quick shots that took out the others were avoided with expertise. The maid was fast. Extremely so. Wakamo hummed in thought as she traded bullets with her opponent. The two raced around each other. The others could see both were experienced. Even though Asuna seemed like an airhead, the blonde was weaving around the battlefield like a pro. She fired and nearly hit Wakamo, who ducked behind a burning car.
The Fox of Calamity jumped up onto of the burning wreck and fired, using the smoke and fire as cover. Asuna let out a 'whoa' before dodging. A few bullets peppered Wakamo. Nothing serious but it made her snarl. She jumped down and charged. Her bayonet at the ready as she did so.
She nearly hit Asuna with her swift strike, but Asuna cheerfully twirled to the side. Her gun then trained itself on Wakamo's head just inches away. Even at that distance, the fox leaned her head just out of the way of the bullets. The two jumped away from each other, staring the other down.
"Quick on your feet, I see." Wakamo huffed.
"Yeah," Asuna said with a bright smile, "I'm having a lot of fun. Did you take dance classes or something because those moves are out of this world."
"No," Wakamo said, lifting her rifle up to fire once more. "But I'm always up for learning a new skill. Although, I don't need to in order to beat you. You've been lucky so far but your luck is just about to run out."
"Oh is that so?" A deep, baritone voice spoke up.
Everyone turned their head to see Napoleon emerging from the hole he'd been thrown through. His clothes were a bit charred and ripped but otherwise he seemed fine. He was giving them all a teeth bearing smirk as he wielded his cannon. There was something different about it. It was longer with the base now being white with different colored bands at the ends. Colorful energy swirled around it.
"Nothing is impossible," he shouted, "Why?"
Fire started to swirl around the end. Napoleon pointed it straight at the Maus. The large Maus tried to swivel its turret to match him one more.
"Because I am here," he declared, "Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile!"
The two fired. Napoleon's blast wasn't a normal cannon fire anymore. It was a sparkling rainbow of energy that blast straight through the Maus's shot. Then it seared away the top half of the giant tank completely. The collective jaws of the students present dropped at the sight. This included the now exposed sukebans in the Maus. This didn't last long for the latter group as they screamed in panic and evacuated the now defunct tank.
"It doesn't matter how hopeless a situation is," Napoleon declared, "You can always grab victory in the face of defeat! No matter the foe. No matter the numbers. As long as you believe and keep your head, you can never lose!"
"Sh-Shut up," Wakamo shouted back, "Just because you're an adult, doesn't mean you can walk all over us. I'm going to have my fun and there's nothing you can do to stop me."
"If that's so," Napoleon said.
He then ripped off a portion of his now damaged shirt with his free hand. His large, pectoral muscles glistened freely in the daylight. A number of the girls present started to blush as they looked at him. Rin was too, but she was also of half a mind to scold him for indecency!
"Then fire away," Napoleon said, "Show me your resolve in the face of adversity."
Wakamo didn't do anything. She was silent. Still as a statue. Then her tail started to wag behind her. Her body was shaking and her gun was barely held in her grasp.
"My heart," she murmured. Then she shrieked, "My heart can't take this. It's too soon! I'm not ready!"
She screamed in despair before running off. The sukebans, seeing their two aces now gone, followed suit. Rin and the others just stared in bewilderment. What were they supposed to say to all of that? He had just one shotted a giant tank. He had scared away Wakamo, one of the strongest troublemakers in the city. He had done all of that with a smile on his face.
Just who had Rin summoned? All that went out the window when she looked at his chest again.
"Put on a shirt," she shook her fist, "You indecent oaf!"
"Hey," Megu shouted back, "Don't ruin this for us! The eye candy stays."
Thankfully they had found a shirt that was big enough to cover his chest. Hasumi had 'found' it. Rin decided to ignore her murmuring 'I need backups when they break'. She was not jealous at all. She was just happy that she didn't have everyone stopping every few seconds to gawk at him… more than they already did. He was still a haloed man. That would get attention from anyone.
Him being handsome didn't have anything to do with it.
They finally made it to the Schale building. Rin couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief. It was still intact. A smile finally made its way to her face. Things could easily be salvaged now. They could save the day and get this nightmare behind them.
"I take it this is the place?" Napoleon said.
Rin nodded, "Welcome to Schale, Sensei."
The large building was impressive. Napoleon really liked how clean and organized everything was looking to be. It was much better than something from his own time. Oh sure, the buildings were nice but he was always a fan of more organized styles. Although, too many windows for his liking. He'd like to have some stronger walls but he could work with this.
"We just need to go to the basement and we can sort things out," Rin walked forward. She turned her head, "All of you stay outside. Sensei and I can handle this."
"Roger that boss lady," Pina said with a thumb's up.
It didn't take long for them to get to their destination. The room wasn't too much to talk about but then again, there wasn't much light in the room. He could always spruce it up later to suit his tastes.
Without hesitation, Rin moved over to one of the desks. She sifted through a few documents, her heart beating quickly as worry took root. She let out a sigh of relief as she spied her goal. She lifted a large tablet up from the desk.
"Thankfully," she said, "There isn't a scratch on it."
She turned and gave it to him.
""Take this," Rin spoke with authority, "This is the Shittim Chest. One of the most important objects in Kivitos. The President wanted you to have it, Sensei."
"Much obliged," Napoleon took it in his larger hands, "Now what do I-"
The moment had touched the button, he vanished. Rin let out a shriek and caught the falling tablet. She looked around, panic eating away at her sanity. How could a grown man just disappear like that? Was she going insane? Was this whole day just a bad dream?
"Hello, Little Lady."
Rin looked down to the tablet. It was lit up now. Napoleon was now standing in a destroyed classroom. She had so many questions rushing through her mind. Yet the foremost one was about the little girl at one of the desks, sleeping soundly. She had soft blue colored clothing and skirt which seemed to fit her soft blue hair. An umbrella gun of sorts was leaning against her desk.
"Or should I say big lady now," Napoleon smirked, "You kids these days. Growing up too fast."
Rin sighed, "Sensei, take this seriously. What happened to you?"
He shrugged, "I don't know. Maybe it's because I'm basically a living ghost that it sucked me right in."
"Ghost?!"
The little girl jumped to her feet in panic. She looked around herself to make sure she was safe. Then her eyes landed on Napoleon. She gasped. Before he could placate her possible fear, she let out a long squeal of happiness. The little girl raced over and gave him a big hug.
"I knew you'd come, Sensei!" She shouted in glee.
Napoleon was only surprised for a moment. Then he laughed and leaned down to hug her as well, lifting her up into the air. He gave her a little spin which caused her to laugh in happiness. The sight was rather charming. However, Rin was still too weirded out by the situation to smile at it. Napoleon eventually let her down on the ground.
"Have we met before?" Napoleon said, "You seem awfully happy to see me."
The little girl tapped her chin, "No, but I know I wanted to meet Sensei one day. I've been waiting her all by myself for a long time to do that."
"Well never fear," he patted her head, "I'll never let you be lonely again. I promise."
"Thank you, Sensei." The little girl smiled, "My name's Arona."
"And I am Napoleon," he said before gesturing to Rin, "Now that is Rin. A very dutiful student of mine and my own master to boot."
"Master?" The little girl tilted her head to the side in confusion.
"We can discuss that later?" Rin said, "Who are you and why are you in the Shittim Chest?"
"I'm Arona," she introduced herself again, "I'm the AI that deals with all of the functions of the Shitting Chest."
An AI? That was impossible. Kivotos tech was advanced but not that advanced. Who could have made her? Did the President have a hand in this? She must have given this is her own device to give to Sensei.
"Do you know where the President of Kivotos is," Rin desperately said in earnest.
Arona frowned and shook her head, "I don't know. I don't have any information on her at all. It's weird. I have information on basically everything else though."
Rin scowled. Another dead end. Just typical.
Would… she ever get to see her friend again?
"Oh Sensei," Arona said, lifting a hand to him. "We have to register you as the owner."
"Well I don't see why not," Napoleon said, "How do we do that?"
"Just put your finger against mine," Arona lifted one single finger.
Napoleon pressed his own against hers. It dwarfed the little girl's own. A few seconds passed before Arona giggled.
"It's complete," Arona pulled her finger away, "Now Kivotos is in the palm of your hand."
"My hand, you say?" Napoleon hummed in thought as he tapped his cheek, "So that means I'm in control of everything?"
"Yep," Arona nodded.
Rin started to panic. That was not part of the plan. She had to dissuade her Sensei from doing this. Surely he'd see reason. If not, she'd… she glanced at her hand. To make him do what she wanted whenever she wanted… That was a dangerous power. Could she use it?
Would she regret it?
Napoleon just laughed. Her doubts went away as she heard it. The large man ruffled Arona's hair, including the big white bow.
"You can transfer the power to Rin over there and her Council," Napoleon said, "I think being Kivotos's Emperor can wait for another day."
Rin huffed, "Thank you for that. I think we're good without an Emperor though."
"You never know," he said. A mischievous glint was in his eyes, "But I've lived one such life already. Perhaps this time around I can live with just being a teacher."
