Summary; Set during Spirit. Clark reflects on the events of the day. Particularly how it was so easy for him to go to the prom because of Lois.
Clark had just finished his dream dance with Lana. While dancing together everything had seemed perfect, but once the song ended reality seemed to set back in for both of them. They had said an awkward thank you for the dance, and leaving so much left unsaid like always. Dancing with Lana at the prom had been his dream come true. As he had told his mother earlier, he always imagined that he and Lana would go to the prom together. The fact that he didn't think his dream of them being a couple seemed impossible anymore was one of the primary reasons he didn't want to come here tonight. This thought led to another, why exactly was he here again? As he made his way from the dance floor his eyes landed once again on the very reason he had come here⦠Lois.
He tried his best not to be reminded of what had caused him to say yes, but seeing her unguarded at the table with Chloe had told him the answer: She asked and he said yes. He wanted to deny it, but in this moment as he watched her laughing inhibited, and seeing the way her whole being seemed to sparkle he knew that the only reason he came to his prom was because Lois Lane was his date. When he saw Lois descend those stairs earlier tonight for the first time, really confronted with how pretty she can be, it was like getting hit by a freight train. He had never seen her quite so feminine before, and he certainly never would have imagined that seeing her that way would have had such an effect on him. When she told him he was taking her to the prom his only thoughts were okay, and when could they go.
After his very brief betraying thoughts did he remember that he had said he was not going. He could say it to everyone, his mom, Chloe, even Lana, but he was struggling to say it to Lois especially with her looking like she did. If anyone would ask him he would say that it was because she is always so persistent, but thinking back on it she really didn't need to push him that much before he caved in. He can pretend that it was because with Dawn possessing Lois, she was different or more gentle, but he knows deep down that really had nothing to do with it. It was just something about Lois alone. Thinking back on previous times when she was able to get him to do things he would never do with anyone else just by a look. It was that glint that got him to say yes when she wanted him to pretend to be infected with the love potion. It's that look that makes him willing to do anything she asks, even jump off a roof if she asks. It was that look that got him to come to prom, because when Dawn had been possessing anyone else he said no, but he couldn't deny her as Lois. It makes him wonder if she knew he would be that easy the minute he saw her in that dress.
Not exactly sure what this whole thing really meant, he decided it best to just call it a night. Taking a deep breath and walking over to where Chloe and Lois were sitting he figured it best to forget the whole thing until he saw her looking at him. For what seemed like the longest time all he could think to do was stare, something about her eyes just seemed extra sparkly. Clark, finally breaking eye contact, moved forward to approach the girls. He really didn't know what he planned to say, but before he could say anything Lois got up. She stated that she had about all she could take off that night, and really wanted to make it back to the farm to get out of that dress. He doesn't know why, but that image had him squirming in a bit. Clearing his throat he stated that they could go if she was ready. When Lois nodded her head, he went over to his parents to let them know he and Lois were leaving. Then he went back to Lois and Chloe who were saying their goodnights. Hugging Chloe and wishing her congratulations again for her victory as prom queen. While he and Lois were walking out, he couldn't help but notice that Lois was being especially quiet, like she was feeling as out of sorts over this whole situation like him.
On the way back to the farm, Clark chanced a glance at her and found she was looking out the window. He was going to say something about her still being possessed when she seemed to sense him looking at her again. There was another instant their eyes met, and it seemed they both had the same reaction to avoid whatever was going on. They both reached for the radio at the same time, and it was obvious they were a bit uncomfortable with each other. He knew something was wrong when she told him to go ahead and pick the music on the radio. Clark was again reminded about the turn this evening took. He chastised himself for not realizing sooner that there was no way Lois Lane would ever ask Clark Kent to the prom. Figuring, he was an idiot to have missed all the signs earlier, and thinking how he was kind of excited to go with her, and how he felt a bit disappointed when it was all over. Earlier, when he had asked her to dance he really did want to, and he was a bit hurt when she sent him away (even though he definitely wanted to dance with Lana) because he was more than willing to dance with Lois.
For a short time he got to pretend that Lois would actually want to go out with him. It always nagged him when she would so easily dismiss the idea out of hand whenever anyone even made the slightest suggestion. He liked to think it was just that his ego often took a hit by her dismissive comments, but there was another part of him that looked at it as further proof that he failed in her eyes somehow, and that bothered him. Perhaps that should have been his first tip off that something was wrong with Lois. When she was possessed she seemed to be openly flirting with him, and was even encouraging his advances. Thinking back on when Dawn was in Lois' body she asked him to pin the corsage on her. He had been hesitant, but she had taken his hand, and given him that look again, the one that makes him turn into putty in her hands. The next thing he knew there he was pinning the flower on her. Looking over at her again in that dress and the corsage he was liking what he was seeing. Apparently he must have been staring too long because suddenly the truck is veering off the road. This made Lois jump, telling him to pay attention, and threatened to drive if he did it again. For the remainder of the ride they made it without any further incidents. Clark was determined to focus all his attention to the road.
Once they arrived at the farm, he could help notice how Lois hurried out of the truck bedding him goodnight before and bolting in the house before he even had a chance to say anything. Deciding it was not likely he was going to sleep anytime soon he decided it best to just go to the barn. Walking up to the loft Clark couldn't help further reflecting on this whole mess and what if anything it might mean. Moving to the barn window he accepted that perhaps there were just some things that were better left unexplored. It was at that moment that he mistakenly looked across at the farmhouse and his bedroom window.
He could see a figure moving around the room, and though he knew he shouldn't he just couldn't help noticing her all over again. She was seemingly muttering to herself about something then in silhouette he noticed she was taking off the corsage. She seemed to be looking at it, and he wondered what she might be thinking when he realized she was reaching for the back of the dress. Before he realized what she was doing he saw her removing the top revealing more of her in silhouette than he bargained for. Suddenly realizing what he was doing, and feeling a slight burning sensation behind his eyes he again decided it best to leave somethings unexplored. Seeing his parents headlights hitting the driveway and taking one final glance across towards the farmhouse where the lights in his room were now off he reconsidered that thought once more thinking perhaps there would come a day when he might be able to learn more about the mystery that is Lois Lane.
