Roxas followed Chirio and her parents outside to see a large field with more creepy rocks, a green field, path (the path probably leads into town) and with some old houses or something like that.
"Pretty." Roxas couldn't help but say.
"What are those houses doing here?" Chirhiro asked.
Rena whines again, he put her down and took hold of her tiny hand just as their mommy and daddy told them to do more than once, so they can stay together. "I want milk, Woxas."
"We'll get milk soon, Rena. promise." Roxas said. She gives him a look that says she doesn't believe him. "Cross your heart?"
"Cross my heart, Imōto." he said in an honest tone so she will believe him.
"I knew it."
Roxas, Rena and Chirhiro look at the dad curiously to see what he is saying. "This must be an abandoned theme park."
Roxas looked out to the horizon, trying to imagine a bunch of rides and games being in the lonely looking field with abandoned houses, but he just couldn't see it. This place is something out of a story book, it isn't a place for a festival.
"They built so many in the early '90s but they all went down with the economy."
Roxas didn't know what the word, "economy" meant, but he figured it had something to do with people.
Maybe they had a good reason to shut it down in the first place.
Chirhiro's daddy walked off again, probably going into town. Roxas never watched any kind of horror movies seeing as he's 6 years old, his mommy forbade him even watching Chucky and scary movies, else she'd have his guts for quarters.
Whatever that means.
"What, no!" Chiriro shouted out to her daddy. "Let's go back, daddy!"
Suddenly the wind came from behind them. Roxas looked at the clock on the building behind him to see it looking really scary despite its broad daylight.
"Woxas, me scared."
"I know, me too."
The two followed Chihiro and her parents. "Mommy, that building's moaning." Chihiro said.
"It's just the wind. What a lovely spot, we should've brought our lunch with us."
Roxas hated hills and he hates this one. He followed them but stopped at some rocks that looked like a river. He didn't like rock jumping since he fell on some rocks at the beach last year.
"Come on, kids." said Chihiro's dad after her mom and herself got over them. Roxas swallowed and focused through his fear while helping his sister. "They were making a river."
Chihiro's daddy sniffed the air, then Roxas took a small sniff to smell a familiar smell. Food. he looked at Rena who was clutching to her rabbit with her thumb in her mouth.
"Milk?"
"Maybe." he said, no point in promising anything and giving her false hope. He felt her shrugging at his arm. "Up, woxas, tired."
"Once we get off the rocks. It can be dangerous."
"Ohhhh, okay."
Roxas puts his hand out to Chihiro so she can come to the other side, but she doesn't take his hand. Probably scared that they'll both fall into the rocks. But as she saw her parents walking off, possibly towards town where the smell is coming from. "Hey, wait!"
They ran up the stairs, but Roxas took his time, helping his 1 year old little sister up the steps since her tiny legs can't make it up to them.
Soon they caught up with the family, but Roxas wondered why other families weren't out and judging by the looks of some of the restaurants and shops, everything was closed.
Where is everyone in this town?
"Can you believe it, they're all restaurants." Chihiro's mom said.
"Where is everyone?" Chihiro asked.
Roxas followed them to the food hall, until his sister stopped him and he saw that the ground was getting wet around her feet.
Oh, shoot. She peed herself. He wondered when his mommy had changed her.
"I peed."
"I know, let's hope someone might have something you clean you up with." he said and he knelt down. "Come on, piggyback."
"But I ruin your spider-men."
"It's okay, you're more import-ant." he said, struggling over the last word. So Rena climbed onto his back and he carried her. He saw the dad stop running. "Over there!"
Roxas followed them to see all kinds of food, but something wasn't right. He can see the steam coming off of it as if it's been freshly cooked for any tourist but there isn't anyone around.
So…. who made all this food and where is everyone? He may be 6, but he is far from stupid. He knows this place is basically a ghost town.
Just what is this place?
Roxas watched as Chihiro's parents started taking food from the serving plates despite the fact that no one was in the restaurant and they didn't find that weird or odd.
"Hello, anybody here?" Chihiro's dad shouted out.
"Come in, Chihiro, kids. It looks delicious." Chihiro's mom said to them.
"Yeah, so does the honey that Goldilocks ate or the candy house in Hansel and Gretel.' Roxas thought to himself. Even Chihiro shook her head at her mother.
Her dad tried again, but still no one came. Roxas felt a tiny hand on his shoulder. "No milk?"
"No milk. We'll get some." he said to her.
"Oh, don't worry. We can pay them when they get back." Chihiro's mom said.
"You're right. That one looks great…."
Roxas wrinkled his nose as he watched the mom eating a chicken, he'll reckon he's going to throw up if they don't stop eating the food, especially if they don't know where it had come from.
"Delicious! Chihiro, Roxas and Rena, you have to taste it." said the mom.
"Not hungry." Roxas grumbled.
He just found his parents murdered in their beds, he can't even stomach any food right now, let alone looking at it. His stomach hurts.
"I don't want to!" Chihiro shouted at them, shaking her head. "Let's go! They're gonna be mad at us."
"Don't worry, you've got daddy here, I've got credit cards and cash."
Roxas remembered what his own daddy had once told him, he can actually hear exactly what he said in his mind. "Son, money or credit cards won't save your life if you are in real danger."
HE felt like they are all in danger, but he can't see any threat around the streets since it's so hauntingly quiet with no people around.
"Take some, Chihiro, Roxas and for your sister. It's so tender."
Roxas didn't need eyes at the back of his head to know his sister had just wrinkled her nose in disgust. She didn't like tender food and she liked her food mashed up a tiny bit. But he wouldn't trust strangers' food more than he cared to throw it.
Roxas only watched in disgust at how they were eating the food, they were basically shoving it down their throats and it was gross.
The only time he felt so disgusted was when he was watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when augustus gloop was trying to take chocolate from the chocolate river into his hands and the grass eating or when that boy in Matilda was eating one huge chocolate cake that looked really horrible.
Roxas saw Chihiro leaving so he followed her, wondering where she is going now.
He followed her up the stairs where a red statue thing was, with a japanese kanji written on it, but he doesn't know how to read it.
Something else caught Roxas's eye, he turned to see a huge building that looked like an old Japanese Temple (They had visited Kumamoto last year) that was red with a red bridge leading to the temple and red roofs.
The thing that really caught his attention was the chimmy on the left hand side was smoke rising from it.
"Weird." Chihiro said as they walked to the bridge to get a closer look and Roxas looked at the building as a whole and knew what it was.
"Vhat's that?" Rena asked, pointing at the temple.
"It's a bathhouse." Chihiro said, taking the words out of his mouth.
Suddenly they heard something from below and they ran to the side of the bridge and looked down to see the train running on the tracks.
"It's the train!" Chihiro said, and they ran to the other side to watch it and Roxas noticed that someone was watching them.
It was just a boy around Chihiro's age. He has hair that's down to his chin, he wore blue clothes that people in Japan used to wear, he has green eyes and he has a shock expression on his face like he couldn't believe they were there.
"Milk?" Rena asked him, peeking from his shoulder.
That snapped the boy out of it and his expression turned from shock to anger. "You're not allowed here! Go back!"
Roxas tilted his head as he gave his sister a little heave as she started to slide down his back. His arms were getting tired, but then so was his eyes.
"It's almost night! Leave before it gets dark."
Then it suddenly got all dark, and the boy looked back at the bathhouse. "They're lighting the bathhouse, go quickly. I'll distract them, get back across the river!"
Roxas, carrying Rena and Chihiro, runs from the bridge and to the steps.
What was this place? Roxas wonders what is going on and he feels more tired as it darkens even more. He hopes to find a way out and find his uncle…
