Hello my readers! I can't believe it's been nearly six months since I have updated this story! That is terrible I know and I'm so sorry about that. I hope you all enjoy the new chapter!
Completing the final step of her makeup regimen, Evie tossed her wine colored lip stain back into her mini beauty bag before zipping it closed.
Today was her first day back to work and she couldn't be more excited.
Yes, she loved spending time with her amazing boys.
But, she did miss her job as well which is allowed, right?
She looked at herself in the mirror, discovering her unruly curls were more out of control than usual this morning.
She opened the medicine cabinet, taking out what she called her "miracle in a jar" hair creme to assist in taming the high level of chaos taking place throughout her voluminous hair.
Her brown eyes shifted what sat next to the creme which was her birth control.
She has not taken her daily pill since her and Jax decided they would like to expand on their family.
Without any more hesitation, Evie picked up the plastic case, tossing it into the waste basket a few feet away from her.
Once Evie was satisfied with her look for the day, she headed toward the boys' bedroom.
She peaked her head in their room, finding them still sound asleep in their brand new bunk bed her and Jax promised them.
A large smile formed on her face and she quietly closed the door without disturbing her boys.
The strong yet beautiful aroma of coffee brewing from within the kitchen drew her to that specific room located in front of the home.
She opened the cabinet above the coffee pot, taking out the first mug her eyes fell on.
The moment the mug hit the kitchen's counter top, the sound of a motorcycle erupted from outside the house.
Evie smiled, abandoning her desire for a cup of coffee and pulled back the white curtains that were in front of the kitchen's window to confirm it was in fact her man returning home from the club's required run.
And it was.
She moved away from the window, giving herself a brief once over in the mirror by the front door.
Hearing his house key jiggle in the front door's lock, Evie quickly went back to the kitchen, reopening the cabinet to retrieve another mug.
Jax removed his kutte from his body, hanging it up on the vacant hook next to one of Evie's jackets.
He heard movement in the kitchen, looking around the corner.
Evie was already awake and dressed for the day.
"Hey darlin'."
"Welcome home, handsome. Would you like some coffee," she asked, pouring coffee into the first mug.
"Sure. Thanks babe."
"You're welc.."
When she finally looked up, she didn't finish her response.
Her man's face had fresh bruises.
"Jesus Jax, what the hell happened," she asked, making her way over to him, taking his injured face in both of her hands.
"Niners. On our way back, they cornered us and torched the truck."
"Holy shit. Is everyone whole?"
"Yeah, we're good," he smiled, giving her a reassuring kiss on the lips.
He looked away from her concerned face, his blue eyes traveling further down her body.
"You're all dressed up. Is the court date today? I thought that wasn't for another couple of weeks."
"It is. It's my first day back to work."
"Good for you, darlin'. You look beautiful as always."
"Thanks baby," she replied, giving him another kiss before pulling away from him.
She handed him the already poured cup of coffee.
"Have a seat. I'll get the sugar."
"I got it, Eve," he insisted as he strolled over to the large pantry.
"Are you hungry? Do you want me to make you something to eat," she asked as she walked past him, running her hand along the top of his muscular back.
As she set her cup of coffee on the kitchen table, Jax came up behind her with her arms tightly wrapped around her waist, pulling her flush against him.
"I am, but what I'm hungry for is not something you can make on a stovetop," he breathed heavily in her ear.
"Sorry stud, but that's the only meal I can't provide you at the moment."
"Why not?"
"The nanny I hired will be here shortly."
" You didn't have to hire a nanny, babe. My mom is always willing to take the boys."
"Jax, I hired a nanny because your mom is having a hard time bouncing back from all the shit that has went down recently. The last handful of times me and the boys have been around her, she reeked of alcohol and weed. I just think we should limit her time with them until she can get back on her feet."
He nodded.
"Okay, I agree."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. Are you surprised?"
" A little."
" Don't be. This is what is best for our family for right now. I'll back you one hundred percent if she gives you a hard time which I know she will."
"Thank you," she smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck, standing on the tops of her toes to give him a kiss.
You're welcome."
He met his woman half way, pressing his lips against hers.
Jax's hands slid down from her waist and began pull her body hugging pencil skirt upwards until it was no longer covering her legs.
"Jax, I told you we can't," she murmured against his lips.
He ignored her statement as he lifted her into his arms and set her down on the edge of the kitchen table.
His hungry mouth seperated from hers and he fell to his knees.
Jax lifted her long legs onto his shoulders only for the doorbell to ring.
"Fuck," he hissed.
Evie chuckled, moving her legs off of his shoulders.
She took his face in her hands, leaning forward to give him a kiss.
"I told you, I can't be breakfast today," she stated, sliding off the table to go answer the door.
Evie's normal workload was tripled on her first day back.
So much so she has skipped her usual lunch break.
In result, her empty stomach's growl seemed to echo throughout her quiet office.
Moving on to the next stack of work waiting to be completed and ignoring her body's endless plea for food, Evie's cellphone started to ring.
She picked it up from the top of the second to last pile of work and glanced at her caller id before answering it.
Rita.
She smiled, answering the incoming call.
"Hey Rita."
"Hey Evie, I'm so sorry to bother you at work."
"No bother at all. I always have time for my sister-in-law. What's up?"
"There's something I need to tell you."
"What's going on? Is the baby okay?"
"Yeah. Your growing neice or nephew is doing great. It's about the club."
"What is it?"
"Eli let it slip that there is an apb going out for Jax and two other members. Do the names Chibs and uh Trager ring any bells?"
"Yeah, those names ring every bell I own. What is the apb for?"
"Supposedly, there are witnesses that have surfaced saying that they saw Jax and the scottsman shoot a black guy in a suv and another set of witnesses saw Trager run down Veronica Pope."
Evie head fell forward into her free left hand.
"Jesus Christ. Thanks for the heads up Rita."
"You're welcome."
"Hey Rita," she stated, hoping her sister-in- law hasn't hung up yet.
"Yeah?"
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Something in my gut tells me these so called "witnesses" are bullshit and have just been paid off from none other than Veronica's father, Damon Pope. Why all the sudden come forward a week later?"
"Good point. Thanks again Rita."
"Anytime."
Evie placed her cellphone down onto her desk and wheeled her chair over to her purse.
She pulled out the prepaid cell Jax gave her, dialing the man she loved that had a current target on his back.
"Hey babe."
"Hey, there's something that I need to tell you."
Gemma was able to get Jax, Chibs, and Tig somewhere to lay low since the apb was officially in effect.
She didn't say where she was taking them.
All she said was she knew where they could go until they had protection set up on the inside.
Evie couldn't help but feel that Gemma was being vague about the temporary safe haven because she was pissed about Evie keeping the kids at a distance from her.
Jax had Happy and Phil stay with Evie and the boys, having them park their bikes in Evie's former garage next door.
Without a doubt, Eli would be here any minute to arrest her man and if he saw the bikes parked outside he would know the lie she was about to feed to him was indeed bullshit.
Phil and Happy were sitting at the kitchen table and Evie was inside with the boys watching a movie when there was a knock at the door.
"I got it!," Andre yelled.
"No baby, I got it."
Evie handed the large bowl of popcorn for Abel and Andre to hold and got up to answer the door.
Happy and Phil were standing up out of their seats, looking at Evie.
"Go to our bedroom," she whispered, getting a nod from each of them.
Once they were past her and out of sight, she stood on her toes and looked through the peephole on the door.
On the other side, there stood her brother with two other officers.
She opened the door, giving her brother a confused expression as to why he was here.
"Eli, what are you doing here?"
So, the rumors round Charming are true.
His sister was officially shacked up with this asshole.
"I'm here for Jax, Evie. I have an apb out for his arrest. Have you seen him?"
"No, I haven't. He's been gone since this morning."
Eli immediately gave her a look of doubt.
"If you don't believe me, you can come in and take a look for yourself," she responded to his reaction as she stepped aside to let the officers in.
He knew Evie knew where he was.
But, he knew she was telling him the truth about him not being home.
"I know this is pointless to even say because I know you won't, but I'll say it anyway. If you see him, give us a call."
"Will do Sheriff."
Evie closed the door, going back to watching the movie with her sons.
"Do you want a car posted here, sir? Just in case Teller shows," Eggly suggested.
"Yeah, but not because Teller will show because he won't. Because if my sister leaves, she will bring us right to him."
Twenty Four Hours Later:
Evie sat outside the cubhouse on top of one of the picnic tables with Jax right by her side.
They have protection set up and now three members of Samcro are about to be taken away in handcuffs due to them turning themselves in to avoid becoming fugitives.
"Say what's rattling in that head of yours," he asked as she continued to hold his ringed hand tighter with every passing second.
She turned her body to face him.
"You better be safe in there. If not, you'll get a personal ass kicking from yours truly. It's your turn. Say what's rattling around in yours."
"That personal ass kicking.. Is that some type of foreplay?", he joked, causing Evie to playfully hit him in the arm.
Muliple police cruisers and a prison transport van pulled up in front of the picnic table Evie and Jax were sitting on.
"Looks like it's time for me to say goodbye," Evie frowned, climbing off of the table.
Jax followed suit, taking her face in his hands.
"It's not a goodbye. This is more of a see you later."
He gave her a firm kiss on the lips, pulling his old lady into a hug.
"Please be safe," she pleaded in his ear before a fresh set of tears rolled down her cheeks.
He pulled away slightly, moving his hands to her face, erasing the tears away from her cheeks with his thumbs.
"I will darlin'. I love you."
"I love you."
Eli and the other officers got out of their vehicles and began to read them their rights before cuffing, Tig, Jax, and Chibs.
Gemma came out of the clubhouse and stood next to Evie.
A motorcycle sped into T-M's parking lot, pulling up in front of the transport van.
It was Jax's best friend Opie.
"You come to say goodbye," Eli asked as Opie approached the scene in front of him.
"Yeah."
Once that word left his mouth, his fist connected with Eli's face, causing him to fall to the floor.
"Don't just stand there, get him out of here!", he screamed at the other officers.
With his wrists and ankles chained, Opie stopped in front of Evie.
"Sorry."
She couldn't believe it.
He was actually apologizing for decking her brother.
"Don't be."
