(After "The Change in the Game')
I don't own Bones.
Oooooooooooooooooo
Uncertain how Booth was going to react, Brennan entered his office and closed the door behind her. Moving closer to his desk, she noticed he seemed to be concentrating on something on his computer monitor. "Booth."
Surprised to find Brennan in his office, Booth noticed she had closed his door. "Is something wrong?"
"No . . . well, yes, but it isn't anything serious." Brennan sat down on the chair across from her partner's desk and placed her purse on his desk. "No, it is serious, but it isn't earth shattering . . . I have found out who posted about my pregnancy on the fan sites . . . well, to be more precise, Angela found out and she told me."
Booth felt that Brennan was trying to stall telling him what she knew and this was her way of doing it. "Bones . . . if you don't want to tell me then don't. I . . . uh . . . it's fine. You probably have your reasons."
Surprised, Brennan smiled a sad smile and shook her head. "No, you have a right to know . . . Daisy overheard us talking at the Founding Fathers and she heard us mention my pregnancy. Apparently, we were talking too loudly in a public space. She left as soon as she found out, making sure we didn't see her leave . . . She left by the back exit, walked through the alley and around the building. That wasn't the safest thing she could do at that time of night . . . I digress. She told her friend, Tristan and Tristan posted the information on the fan sites. She is Crimeismygame44."
"So, we should have been more careful when we were talking at the Founding Fathers . . . Sometimes we forget where we are and we say things we shouldn't . . . Okay, we made a mistake, but Daisy didn't have a right to repeat it to someone else." He was angry, but he knew that if they had talked quieter in the bar, the intern wouldn't have heard them. "From now on, we need to talk about private stuff in private."
"I agree." Brennan was disappointed in her intern and she wasn't sure what she was going to do about that disappointment. "She betrayed my trust . . . I am disappointed in Daisy. She should be able to keep secrets. It is important that she does so if she continues to work at the Lab . . . I'm not sure what I am going to do about her betrayal."
Booth could see that Brennan was sadder about her intern gossiping about them than angry. He wasn't sure if he should get involved since it involved Daisy and not someone at the Hoover. "You know she's kind of emotional about stuff, but I do agree that she needs to learn to keep her mouth shut. If she's helping with a case, the last thing we need is for her to tell a reporter because that reporter happens to be a friend of hers and the bad guy finds out about what we know. He could destroy evidence or just flee the country . . . I need to be able to rely upon the squints at the Lab and I can't do that if they can't keep their mouths shut about the things we learn about the victim."
"I understand." Brennan felt the same way that her partner did. "It is our fault that we mentioned my pregnancy in a public place, but it is Daisy's fault that my fans found out about it before I was ready."
"What a mess." Booth decided that Brennan would have to deal with Daisy. If he talked to her he might say something that he shouldn't. "I'll let you handle Daisy. It's up to you how you want to handle what she did . . . If you're interested in what I think, I don't think you should fire her. She's still a kid and she has a lot to learn. She does need to stop gossiping about us and definitely not about me. I'm not a toy she can play with . . . If I get involved . . . well, I'd better not."
She knew he had a temper and he wasn't a fan of her intern. "Yes, I will handle it. If it had been someone at the Hoover, then it would have been right for you to take care of the situation . . . We need to be more circumspect when we're in public. I am a famous author and good or bad, my fans are interested in me and my life . . . in our lives." She smiled at her lover.
"Yeah, I know that." Good or bad, Booth had to accept that her fans were nosey and too interested in his life because they thought he was Agent Andy. "We'll be careful when we're in public places from now on."
"Yes, we will." Brennan felt that Booth had accepted what was happening much calmer than she thought he would. Standing, she moved around the desk, kissed his cheek and smiled at him. "I need to get back to the Lab. I think I will let Daisy stew . . . stew about her fate for a while? Stew?"
Booth patted her arm. "Yeah, stew. You got that one right . . . Yes, let her stew about it for a while. It might do her some good."
Grabbing her purse from Booth's desk, Brennan left. Once Booth was alone, he glared at the top of his desk and hoped he didn't run into Daisy anytime soon. He might tell her off and embarrass her. "She needs to be told off, but she doesn't work for me . . . that's probably a good thing."
Oooooooooooooo
Daisy had called him crying and after a tearful conversation, Sweets had tried to assure her that her job was probably safe. He didn't think Brennan was a vindictive person, but he did know that if Booth was angry enough, he might try to get Brennan to fire Daisy. Booth had a temper and he hated anyone to invade his privacy.
Standing outside Booth's office, he noticed the man eating a candy bar and staring at his computer monitor. Moving his hand down his tie, Sweets wasn't sure if he was about to make a mistake, but he did feel like he should at least try to save Daisy's job.
Once he was inside Booth's office, Sweets cleared his throat. "May I talk to you?"
Certain he knew what Sweets wanted to talk about, Booth shook his head. "No. Just turn around and leave. You do not want to talk to me about Daisy. You really don't." Booth placed his candy bar on top of the desk and glared at his friend.
He could see that Booth was angry and perhaps his friend was right. Getting involved in what Daisy had done might be a mistake. "I uh . . . Daisy is sorry for what she did. She really is. She really admires Dr. Brennan . . . and you of course and well, when she overheard Dr. Brennan say she's pregnant at the Founding Fathers . . . well, she got excited and wanted to share the good news with someone. She didn't tell anyone at the Lab which was the right thing to do, but she did risk telling a friend and that friend apparently can't keep a secret."
"No shit." Booth leaned back against his chair. "Talking to me about Daisy isn't going to do any good. I'm letting Bones take care of her intern. If Daisy worked here, I'd take care of it, but she doesn't work for me which is a good thing . . . a very good thing."
Aware that Booth seemed to be getting angrier as they spoke, Sweet nodded his head. "Yes, Dr. Brennan should handle it since Daisy is her intern. Well, I have a meeting I need to get to in twenty minutes, so I'll leave now."
"You do that." Booth turned to face his monitor. "People that work at the Lab and here at the Hoover better stop gossiping about me or Bones. I may decide to do something about it and no one would like that. Believe me."
"I understand." Sweets hoped that Booth calmed down soon. The man could be unpleasant when he was angry. "Would you like me to close the door when I leave?"
Booth nodded his head. He had a report to finish and he couldn't do it if people didn't leave him alone.
