The house was silent, or so it seemed. Lily and Heston were asleep in their room and Emilia next door. It had taken nearly two hours for Lily to settle her. It might seem childish to some but Emilia expresses her autism and true behaviour completely openly with Lily. Its a combination of autism and trauma from her childhood.
Emilia could not sleep but lying awake in bed. Turning over to look at the clock it read 3:00am. At least she got a few hours sleep but was not enough as she still had a fuzzy head and her mind was spinning. She tried to close her eyes again and sleep but it was no good. Emilia gave up and went quietly downstairs and turned the light on in the dinning room. The whiteness im the room was bright and had tk squint her eyes. But the visions were still there. She could see everything in her mind.
Back upstairs, the faint light from the dinning room shone in on Lily through the small gap of the pulled too door of her bedroom. Heston was alseep. She too looked at the clock to see it was 3:20am. Glancing to see if Heston had sturred, which he had not, Lily grabbed her dressing gown and headed downstairs.
"Emilia, are you up, is everything alright?", Lily softly spoke as she headed downstairs through the hallway into the dinning room.
"Sorry, I couldn't sleep", Emilia was stood in the room, suddenly realising how cold the house was being winter.
"It's okay, no need to apologise, just checking you're alright", Lily comes over and places a hand on Emilia's back.
"No, I'm fine just couldn't sleep",
Lily was silent and waited.
"It's just...", Emilia's words trailed off into thought,
"Go on", Lily gave her a nudge, holding her arm in support.
Emilia took a deep breath,
"Its just...everytime I close my eyes all I can see is her face, the screaming of her mother and all the hurt comes flooding back", the uncontrollable crying began again, Lily knew a pressure hug and to be patient was one of the few things which worked. Emilia just cried so deep into Lily and on occasion trying to push her away but Lily would step in with a comforting,
"It's alright, you're safe",
"Lily?", Heston had heard the noise, but then it was hard not to when it was at night in the quiet of the house, and Lily's house wasn't big either.
Lily turned to look at Heston.
"Can you get my bag and some.water please", tunring back to Emilia,
"Emilia, I going to give you some of your medication to help you sleep", Heston had come back with Lily's bag and some water. Emilia was still sobbing but had calmed down a little, still holding onto Lily. Lily helpled her sit down on the white sofa,
"Emilia, it's okay I promise, it's just Lily and Heston. You're safe, everything's going to be alright", Lily was holding her hands in Emilia's and waiting while Heston dosed the medication.
"Hear take this, I think it will help", Lily handed the medicine pot and placed it in Emilia's hand. She took it and then replaced it with some water. Emilia looked into Lily's eyes, scared ashamed simultaneously.
"It's alright, I promise", Lily gave her a gently smile. It wasn't long before Emilia had calmed down. Lily spent the rest of the night sleeping next to Emilia in her daughter's room where everyone managed to get some sleep.
