Little by Little

Change was a consistent thing in life. The world was constantly changing as time went by. Sofia had had her fair share of changes in her life, both happy and sad. Her father had been lost at sea when she was very young. Then, when she was eight, her mother married the king, and she became a princess overnight. Moving to the castle, getting a new father, as well as a brother and sister, and becoming royal were some of the biggest changes in her young life, but change hadn't stopped there. In fact, many things had changed since she was eight years old…

"Are you all right, my love?"

Sofia blinked and looked up at her husband, who was looking down at her, a concerned look on his features. She was sitting on a bench in the castle's rose garden where she had been enjoying the warm sunshine and thinking. She must have gotten lost in her thoughts, because she hadn't been aware of Cedric standing in front of her. "I'm fine," she smiled sheepishly. "I guess I just got lost in thought."

The look of concern disappeared as he sat down beside her. "Lost in thought, eh? And what were you thinking about? Your sensational husband, no doubt." He offered her a disarming smile.

The young woman giggled. "Were you looking for me? I'm sorry if I didn't hear you call me."

"Don't be sorry," he said, shrugging. "I was just taking a walk after finishing a potion, and I happened to see you sitting here, so I decided to join you. Is that all right?"

"It's more than all right," she smiled happily. "It's perfect! I'm actually glad you're here. I have something to tell you."

"Oh, good," he quipped, smirking. "You've decided to let me give Baileywick that Sleep–Late potion so he won't come pestering me early in the morning." He snickered when she narrowed her eyes and frowned at him. "I'm jesting, love. Calm down."

Sofia sighed, rolling her eyes. He could be so silly sometimes… "Anyway… I haven't been feeling too well the last week."

His face fell, and he took her hand, squeezing it gently. "I know, and I hate to see you so ill."

She smiled appreciatively. "I talked to my mom about it today, and she summoned the doctor." She squeezed his hand as he watched her carefully. "Cedric… We're going to have a baby."

Cedric's eyes widened in surprise. "A—A baby…? Y—You're…?"

She nodded, her smile becoming wider. "Yes!"

The sorcerer laughed softly. Having children—having a wife for that matter—had seemed impossible once upon a time. But all that was changing, and he couldn't be happier. His entire life had begun to change that fateful day so many years ago when a little girl became a princess. "That's the best news I've heard since the day you agreed to marry me." He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her in for a hug, whispering in her ear, "You make me so happy. Thank you for loving me."

Sofia held him tightly, her heart bursting with love for him. "I'll always love you, Cedric. Always..."

Yes, many things had changed since Sofia was eight years old, and things continued to change little by little as time went on.

A/N: Change presented a lot of opportunities for stories. This is what I came up with. Nothing else to say.
