Legends. Stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, byproducts of a forgotten past. Man, born from dust and clouds, was strong, wise, and resourceful, but he was born into an unforgiving world. An inevitable darkness, creatures of destruction, the creatures of Grimm, set their sights on man and all of his creations. These forces clashed, and it seemed the darkness was intent on returning man's brief existence to the void. However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, and in time, man's passion, resourcefulness and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds. This power was appropriately named "Dust".
However, that wasn't the ONLY power that mankind now had at its disposal. From atop the mighty World Tree, a being known only as "The Architect" had sent down many shinning, glimmering lights. These lights were known as "Blades", and they would further mankind's struggle for survival. Nature's wrath and the Architect's children in hand, man lit their way through the darkness, and in the shadow's absence came strength, civilization, and most importantly, life. But even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die. And when they are gone... darkness returns.
So you may prepare your guardians, build your monuments to a so-called "free world", but take heed... there will be no victory in strength.
Signal Academy, Patch, Kingdom of Vale
May 12th, 79 PV (Post-Vytal)
Within the small island of Patch, off the coast of the great continent of Sanus, lies Signal Academy, a modest institution, and one of the Kingdom of Vale's two primary combat schools, where students are trained to become the premier defenders of the planet of Remnant: the Huntsmen and Huntresses. Or at least, they're preparing to ENTER the actual academies to become Hunters of the Grimm. And it's in Signal where our story begins. Within the outdoor combat arena of Signal Academy, two young men were currently sparring. One was a High Entia lad of 16 years old, with an olive skin complexion with sapphire-blue eyes and hair. His outfit consists of a dark blue overcoat, teal pants and black combat boots over a black bodysuit. In his hand was a longsword with a shimmering blueish-white blade, with the crossguard having a symbol showing a falcon superimposed over a crescent moon.
"Is that all you got Rose? I'm actually kinda disappointed." The High Entia boy said arrogantly, hefting his sword on his left shoulder, a cocky grin on his face. "I would've thought that the son of the 'great Summer Rose' would put up more of a fight." He added with barely-contained mockery.
"I can do this all day, Clive. So how's about you quit your jabbering and FIGHT ME!" Shouted the young man, determination showing strong. He was 14 years old, with fair skin, black hair with red tips. His outfit consists of a black long-sleeved shirt, red and black cargo pants, black red combat boots, black fingerless gloves. His ensemble was rounded out with a dark red jacket with a green burning rose, atop what to some might be a stem, but was, in actuality, the long trunk of the World Tree. The most striking feature of the young man however, were his eyes. Silver like moonlight. In his hands was a rusted broadsword.
"If you insist on having your pathetic arse handed to you for the umpteenth time, so bet it." The High Entia, Clive replied with a huff, swinging his longsword, and channeling the mysterious energy known as Ether into the blade, and shattering both the sword, and the young man's Aura with a single strike, forcing the Silver-eyed boy to skid along the ground.
"And with that, Remy Rose is defeated by Aura depletion. The winner, once again, is Clive Silverlake!" The match's announcer, a Gormotti female with blonde hair and cat-like ears, along with green eyes. Her outfit consists of khaki shorts, black sandals and a beige tank-top. "But then again, who else was shocked at the outcome?" The announcer added with barely-hid boredom as the boy, now identified as Remy, was helped off the ground by two girls.
The first was a girl with fair skin which paired surprisingly well with her long, thick wavy bright golden hair that fades to pale gold at the tips, and her lilac eyes. Her ensemble consists of a tan jacket that shows off her midriff, with golden brown piping and short, puffy sleeves with black cuffs that feature two golden buttons. Underneath her jacket, she's wearing a low-cut yellow crop top with her emblem, a burning heart on the left breast in black. She also wears a brown belt covered by a pleated brown piece of material reaching from hip to hip around the back of her waist, with her emblem emblazoned on the right-most pleat in gold. Underneath this is a long, white, asymmetrical piece of material reaching to her knee on the right side, as well as a pair of tight black spandex compression shorts that reach her upper thighs. Completing the outfit was a pair of brown, knee-high boots and orange over-the-knee socks, with the right sock pushed down just below the knee, alongside a gray bandana tied around her left knee.
The other girl, meanwhile, was similar to Remy in appearance, mainly with the fair skin, neck-length black hair with red tips and silver eyes. The main difference lie with her outfit, which consists of a black long-sleeved blouse with a high collar and red trim on the sleeves, over which is a black waist cincher with red lacing up the front and a matching skirt with red lining. She also wears a pair of thick black stockings and black combat boots with red laces, red trims around the top, and red soles. Her ensemble was topped off by a red hooded cloak fastened to her shoulders by cross-shaped pins. Her emblem, the same burning rose as Remy's only as a silver buckle on her wide black belt, which was slung around her hips on an angle. Attached to said belt are a pocket and a row of bullets.
These two were Yang Xiao Long and Ruby Rose, Remy's older and twin sisters respectively. And neither were happy at how their brother was treated by both the referee and the haughty High Entia, respectively.
"What the hell's your problem, Silverlake?" Yang asked/growled at her classmate, face twisted into a noticeable snarl, her eyes turning blood-red. "You knew my brother's Aura was running low, so why-" Was all Yang was able to say before Clive hushed her with a finger.
"First off: try to smile more, you won't get a man like me if you scowl like that." Clive began smugly, both earning a glare from Ruby, and further enraging the blonde. "And secondly: your brother is weak and pathetic. He can't build a weapon to save his life, he swings that useless sword like a Griffball hammer, and while his Aura is impressive, he lacks the strength to use it. And without strength, you cannot protect anything, let alone yourself." He finished, walking away.
"What an asshole..." Yang said with a snarl, her eyes returning to their natural lilac. Looking back towards her younger siblings, Yang's face becomes more somber, "Don't pay him any mind, baby bro. He's just full of hot air." She added, as Remy dusted himself off. "C'mon, let's head back home, I'm sure dad's got something amazing lined up-"
"I'm not hungry, Yang." Remy said, cutting his sister off. "I just want to be alone right now." He added, running off into the forest of Patch, leaving his two sisters looking worried. Yang especially, being reminded of a mistake she made years ago. Determined to not let her brother sulk in his despair, her and Ruby ran after Remy.
After what seemed like hours, Remy found himself at the grave of his mother, Summer Rose. A single stone slab with the same burning rose emblem that he and Ruby share. On the bottom, is a set of text reading "Summer Rose / Thus Kindly I Scatter". The cliff where the gravestone sets overlooks the Bay of Blackwood, which defines the border between the regular ocean, and the strange phenomena of the Cloud Sea. At its center, lies the World Tree, illuminating the sky with its distinctive green color. Sighing deeply, Remy sits down in front of his mother's gravestone, tears pricking his eyes.
"Mom, what am I going to do? Clive's right, and there's no way I can say he's wrong." Remy said dismally, "Sometimes, I wish I could actually speak with you, or even the Architect, and find out why." Wiping the tears away with his sleeve, he continued, "But still, Gramps always said that even at your lowest, you and Uncle Rex never gave up, never felt any sort of despair, but I don't know if I can do that. At least, not to the same extent that Uncle Rex could."
"Then that's what we're here for." Ruby said, her and Yang standing behind their brother. "And, while Clive might be right about SOME things, he's not completely right."
"Well said, Rubes." Yang added, crouching down to meet Remy's eyes, "Just because Clive spoke some truths, doesn't mean that he's 100% right. Plus, he's kind of an arrogant jerkwad." The blonde brawler added with a chuckle, causing Remy to give a small laugh.
"Yeah, he's what Uncle Rex would describe as 'an absolute bellend.'" Remy said with a chuckle. "Still, how am I gonna get back at that shit pigeon?" Remy asked, "Without a weapon of my own, I'm going to have to resort to using my fists. No offense, Yang." He added, causing Yang to laugh a bit.
"None taken, baby brother." Yang replied, standing up alongside her brother, "We just need to find you the right kind of weapon." She added matter-of-factly.
"Yeah, it's not like I'm just gonna stumble on a weapon at any point." Remy retorted. But at that very moment, the ground began to shake, almost akin to an earthquake, causing the Rose-Xiao Long siblings to become off-balanced.
"W-wh-what the heck is happening?!" Ruby shouted, as she began waiving her arms wildly to stop herself from falling over.
"I don't have a clue!" Yang answer-yelled, as all of a sudden, the ground suddenly stopped shaking. "Huh, neat."
"Alright, I have a simple, innocent question to ask." Remy said, dusting himself off, as he had fallen from the earthquake. "WHAT. And I cannot emphasize this enough, THE FUCK?!"
"Honestly, I have no idea." Yang answered, just as confused as her siblings. "Hopefully dad is alright. C'mon, we better head home, before he starts to worry." She added, the three of them beginning to walk back to their home.
"Good idea. Oh, and Remy?" Ruby said, turning to her twin, who only raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue. "We'll find you a weapon that's perfect for you." She added, making Remy smile at his twin sincerely, Yang looking back and grinning herself. And not even three seconds after Ruby had said that, the ground beneath the trio suddenly gave way, causing all three to suddenly fall in, screaming as they did.
[Xenoblade Chronicles 2 OST: "The Ancient Vessel"]
"Oh gods, my head..." Yang groaned, rubbing her head after the fall all three of them had. "Ruby, Remy, you guys OK?" She asked, as she and her siblings stood up.
"Well, I'm alive, if that says anything." Remy replied sardonically, looking around the area, he noticed that the walls were not that of a cave, but more metallic in nature. "Hey guys, I don't think this was underneath Patch this whole time, unless I misread the daily geological surveys." He added, as he, Yang and Ruby activated the flashlights on their Scrolls.
"Yeah, but what even IS this place?" Ruby asked, as the three of them continued to walk through the darkened corridors of this mysterious location. "Oh! What if we're in some lost ship?" Ruby pondered excitedly, bouncing up and down.
"A ship? C'mon Rubes, if this was a ship, there would be-" As Remy was talking, a series of lights started up across the area, showing that indeed it was a ship. "- lights. Huh, guess this is a ship." He finished, as he Yang and Ruby turned off their Scrolls flashlights.
With the ship now illuminated, the sibling trio descended further and further into the bowls of the ship, avoiding all sorts of monsters and pitfalls, before making it to a room with a strange symbol on the doorface.
"Whoa, wonder what's behind this door?" Yang asked, both to her siblings, and to no one in particular, before looking around the area.
"Yeah, and why does that symbol look a bit like mom's emblem?" Ruby added, looking at both her own buckle and Remy's jacket.
"No idea, but you never know until you try, right?" Remy replied, walking up to the door, and with a simple touch, the door opens, much to the three's surprise.
"Holy crap! How'd you do that, Remy?" Yang asked, her eyes widening in simultaneous shock and amazement.
"No idea." Remy answered, "All I did was touch the symbol which, now that you mention it Ruby, DOES resemble mom's emblem, and the door opened. Probably by some sort of Ether-powered pneumatic-" Remy continued, before Yang cut him off.
"OK baby bro, I get it, I don't need the full science lesson." Yang said, not hearing Ruby mention under her breath about Yang having some of the highest grades at Signal. "Look, we should probably go and find dad, or even Uncle Qrow, maybe-" Was all Yang got out before she saw that Remy was no longer standing next to her. "Or, just go into the strange room, sure." Yang added, rolling her eyes in fond exasperation, her and Ruby following their brother inside.
After a couple of minutes, Remy found himself within the strange, sealed room. Staring in awe at the surroundings, but what caught his eye was at the room's center. There was a girl. She had fiery-red hair that was neck length, and on her left ear was a green ear piercing. Her attire consisted of short red and black armor with gold and green ornamentation. She was also wearing black fingerless gloves, an armored red neck-high short sleeved top and matching thigh-high boots, red short-shorts, along with a long multicolored reverse drape scar-like cape and a golden tiara. What caught Remy's attention though, was the large, red jagged sword in front of the sleeping girl, on the sword itself was a green crucifix-shaped crystal.
'By the Architect, she's pretty.' Remy thought, his face still as red as a tomato. There was another thought that was going through his head, simultaneously. 'Why does she look so sad?' Remy mentally added, looking at the girl's sleeping visage. But just before he went to grab the handle of her sword, he heard two sets of footsteps right behind him, which of course turned out to be Ruby and Yang.
'Remy! There you are!" Yang yelled, as she and Ruby finally caught up to their brother. "I was trying to say that we SHOULDN'T go into the strange, possibly boob-trapped room, but you went and did just that! What if there was some super-powerful monster or Grimm?" She added, concerned, but relieved that her little brother was safe.
"I know, I know. But my curiosity got the better of me." Remy apologized, "In any event, it paid off, cause look!" He added, motioning to the girl sleeping in the stasis pod.
"Huh, she's really pretty." Ruby noted, mirroring her brother's own thoughts. Her eyes then took notice of the green lines running across the girl's body, before widening in realization. "Guys! I think she's a Blade!" She exclaimed, stars forming in her eyes. Causing both of her siblings to become shocked as well.
"Huh, I think you might be onto something, baby sis." Yang replied, as Remy approached the sword again.
"S-she's a... Blade?" Remy asked quietly, his voice noticeably trembling at the implication.
"Yeah, those green lines on her body conduct Ether, and everyone knows that a Blade's abilities are powered by Ether..." Ruby said, going off on a hyperfocused monologue about the nature of Blades and Ether. Yang chuckling fondly, while Remy looked pensive. His mind wandering back toward the sword, his mind reeling at the thought of resonating with her.
'I could finally prove that I CAN become a Huntsman.' Remy thought, his hand reaching out to the sword's handle. And just before he could, what sounded like an explosion began to rock the area.
"What the hell was that?" Yang asked, deploying her weapon, Ember Celica, a pair of Dual Ranged Shot Gauntlets of a golden-yellow color, with the shells being red and orange. The gauntlets themselves covering her hands and forearms.
"I don't know, but this might be the perfect time to try out my new baby!" Ruby exclaimed, unveiling her own weapon, a High-Caliber Sniper-Scythe of red and black, the blade having a crescent shape, thus Ruby appropriately named it, "Crescent Rose."
"Remy, you stay here, Ruby and I are going to check out what the hell's going on." Yang ordered, her and Ruby speeding off before Remy could protest.
"Dammit." Was all Remy could say.

[With Ruby and Yang]
As Ruby and Yang zoomed throughout the ship, one thought was plaguing the young reaper's mind. "Do you think we should've at least taken Remy as far as the hole?" Ruby asked her older sister, concern for her twin evident on her face.
"Far too risky, considering whatever's going on outside." Yang replied, going into what she coined "battle mode." She and Ruby get to the hole they fell out of, and using the firearm modes of their weapons, propel themselves back into the open air, when suddenly, a familiar figure is slammed into the tree next to them.
"AGH!" Shouted the voice of Clive Silverlake in obvious pain, his face contorting in discomfort, as his silver-blue Aura shimmered for a short bit. Looking back at the direction the High Entia came from, Ruby and Yang were both shocked and horrified by what they saw. Besides the dead bodies of the olive-green garb of Patch's provincial militia, was one of the monsters that threaten the lives of everyone on Remnant. A being of charcoal-black skin, covered by bone-like plates all over its body like armor. On its back is a red pattern or symbol resembling an eye. And speaking of eyes, its eyes were equally the same crimson color. This was a Beringel. One of the many types of the Creatures of Grimm.
[Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition OST: "Urgency"]
"Oh, shit." Yang muttered, attempting to keep her voice level. The Beringel quickly took notice of her and Ruby. She failed. And with a mighty roar, the Grimm charged at its new prey, the sisters barely dodging to the side as the Beringel slammed its seemingly gargantuan fist into the ground right where Ruby and Yang were standing. "Holy crap, talk ab-" Was all Yang got out before the gorilla-like Grimm grabbed Yang by her leg, and slammed her into Ruby, knocking both into the ground, their Auras shattering instantaneously from the sheer force of the throw, and causing both girls to yell out in pain at the point of connection.
[End Song]
[Back with Remy]
Not even a full hour after his sisters had left to find out what was happening on the surface, Remy heard the screams.
"Ruby! Yang!" Remy shouted, ready to rush in and help, but didn't as he remembered that his sword was destroyed by Clive. 'Dammit, what do I do?!" He shouted, eyes shut thinking of a way to help. When, just like that, a light went off in his head.
[Xenoblade Chronicles 2 OST: "The Awakening"]
'The Blade!' Remy thought, his mind going back to the Blade currently in stasis. 'But, what if I lack the, what was it Gramps called it, aptitude to use a Blade? What would happen if I-' Remy's thoughts were suddenly halted by more screams coming from the outside.
"Caution to the wind, then." Remy muttered, his mind now made up. With newfound determination (and more than a bit of fear), Remy grabbed the hilt of the sword embedded in the floor. "Please, my sisters need my help, and I don't have any other options. So please, in the name of the Architect, the Brothers, and whatever other deity is listening, I NEED YOUR HELP!" And with that last shout, the sword was freed, and the room was bathed in emerald light.
[End Song]
[Back Outside]
Outside of the ship, to say that the fight against the Beringel was not going well, would be a VAST oversimplification. After Ruby and Yang's Auras were shattered, the local Huntsmen and Huntresses were called in to contain the fighting, to varying degrees of success. Which is to say, only barely. As the presence of the Beringel drew in other Grimm, namely Beowolves and Ursai. Three of which were cut down in quick succession by one of the Huntsmen brought in. A man around his late 30's with pale white skin, graying black, spiky hair, faded red eyes, and slight stubble along his jawline. His outfit consists of a gray dress shirt with a long tail, black dress pants and black dress shoes. On his right index finger was a ring, and around his neck, was a crooked cross-shaped pendant. completing his ensemble, was a red, tattered cloak. In his right hand was his weapon, a single-edged greatsword with a clockwork mechanism of indeterminate nature built into the space above the hilt and a pair of parallel handguards set beneath it. A pair of shotgun barrels are also situated on either side of the main blade, but are not deployed.
This man is Qrow Branwen, professional Huntsman, former member of Beacon Academy's team STRQ, and the uncle of Yang, and honorary uncle of Ruby and Remy. Rubbing at full sprint, Qrow took his sword, Harbinger and cleaved two more Ursai in half, before moving to engage the Beringel. With a mighty yell, and a single-minded determination to protect his nieces, Qrow swung Harbinger at the Beringel, only for the Grimm to effortlessly block the strike with its forearm.
"Heh, cheeky little shit, aren't you?" Qrow quipped, immediately disengaging when the Grimm ape readied to pound the human into paste. "Now look here, banana breath, all I wanted to do was come home for a bit, and hang out with my nieces and nephew, and of course, you just HAD to ruin that. Especially by hurting my nieces." The veteran Huntsman added while taking a quick swig from his hip flask. "So, here's what's going to happen: I kill you, find out where my nephew is, and head home, capisce?" Qrow finished, only for the Beringel to notice Ruby and Yang limping away with an unconscious Clive. A fact which didn't go unnoticed by Qrow. "Don't you even-" Was all Qrow got out, before the Beringel went full-speed towards the three teenagers. "-PIECE OF SHIT ASSHOLE!" Qrow yelled, running after the Beringel.
Ruby and Yang foolishly looked back to see imminent death approach, and their beloved uncle would be too late to help. But fortunately for all four, help would indeed arrive.
[Xenoblade Chronicles 2 OST: "Counterattack"]
From within the ground, in-between the Beringel and the girls, erupted a massive pillar of flames. And out of that pillar, arose the Blade from the stasis pod, her eyes now opening to reveal two irises as red as her hair and armor. And with her hands now by her side, her Core Crystal is now revealed. It being the same color and shape as on the sword that was in front of her. And speaking of said sword, another figure arrived in a flurry of green and red rose petals. The sword, now activated because of the flame-like energy it's emitting, was being held by-
"REMY?!" Yang, Ruby and Qrow all shouted simultaneously. As the aformentioned lad opened his eyes, showing silver, hardened like steel, glaring daggers at the Grimm. Whose shadowy brethren were responsible for untold numbers of deaths throughout the history of Remnant, the same beings that claimed the lives of men, women and children for hundreds, if not thousands of years. One of which, possibly included his own mother.
"So, it appears that the Grimm are still an issue." The red-headed Blade spoke, turning towards Remy, her eyes filled with the same determination as the one who awoke her. The same as her Driver. "Seems like we got here just in time, eh Remy?"
"You know it." Remy answered, as all the remaining Huntsmen and militia forces arrived at the scene, witnessing a 14-year old kid staring down at a Grimm. "Let's do it, Pyra." Remy added, as the Blade, now identified as "Pyra" ran full-speed towards the Beringel, much to everyone's shock. Gripping Pyra's sword in both hands, Remy spun around, and swung the sword twice into the Grimm, with a cry of "DOUBLE SPINNING EDGE!" Both strikes hit true, slicing off the Beringel's left arm, and leaving a nasty burn on its side.
"Remy, I can keep up with you dodging, but I still have to stay close to channel Ether to you." Pyra pointed out, referencing the blue line between her and Remy. "Otherwise, your Arts won't have the same strength as before!"
"Understood! Now, time to show this bastard how we do things here on Patch!" Remy exclaimed, Pyra right besides him, the young Driver slashed at the Grimm another three times, once in its right arm, and twice in the chest, causing the Beringel to roar in pain, using its remaining arm to pulverize Remy, causing Qrow to try and intervene, but Pyra beat him to the punch, jumping in front of Remy and holding out both hands, she generated a barrier made of Ether, Remy using his Semblance to leap above Pyra, and performing a quick twirl. "ROLLING SMASH!" Remy cried out, slamming the sword's fiery blade into the Grimm, sending it back and causing Qrow to dodge out of the way.
"W-what the hell...?" Groaned the wounded form of Clive. Making Ruby and Yang almost drop him. "Earlier, your brother couldn't hit the broad side of a bloody barn. And now here he is, fighting an Architect-damned Beringel like it's fucking nothing!" He added, pointing out the fact that Pyra had disengaged her Ether barrier, allowing him to slash at the Beringel's side another couple of times. Causing it to roar.
"Remy, let's finish this!" Pyra yelled, causing Remy to nod in response. Remy grabbing Pyra by the waist, and, using his Semblance, shot himself and Pyra into the sky Remy's left hand on the hilt of Pyra's sword, and Pyra's right hand doing the same, the blue light connecting the two now turning gold. And for a moment, time seemed to have stopped. Raising the sword above their heads, Driver and Blade let out a cry that could shake the heavens with its intensity.
"BURNING SWORD!"
And then both Driver and Blade swung the sword downward, right into the Beringel, causing the Grimm to be consumed by what some would equate to the flames of Hell. And with one final defiant roar, dies with the Grimm dissolving into dark particles. Causing everyone present to release a breath they didn't know they were holding.
[End Song]
After what seemed like hours, Remy deactivated Pyra's sword, planting the tip into the ground, while the remaining Huntsmen and militia members were busy extinguishing the fires from the battle, two of them went and retrieved the injured Clive from Ruby and Yang, who wasted no time in running towards, their brother, who promptly collapsed.
"REMY!" Yang, Qrow and Ruby yelled, the latter using her Semblance to rush over to grab her twin brother before his head made contact with the dirt.
"Is he OK?" Ruby asked in an understandably panicked tone, not even registering that her other favorite uncle was nearby. Speaking of Qrow, he put two fingers to the side of Remy's neck to check his pulse, letting out a sigh of relief at the fact he could feel it.
"Yeah squirt, he's alright. He just tire himself out." Qrow responded with a fond smile towards his niece, as Yang grabbed Remy from Ruby's arms. "Now, I'd say let's talk about the Goliath in the room, but I'm sure that everyone's exhausted." Qrow added, seeing the nods of both of his nieces. "All right, let's head on home." But before they began walking, Ruby posed a question.
"Wait, what about her?" Ruby asked, hiking a thumb towards Pyra, who looked at her new Driver with concern. "She's coming with us, right?" She added, like that was the most natural thing in the world. And neither Qrow, nor Yang could refuse her.
"Hey, I don't see why not." Yang answered, giving a shrug. "Besides, it's thanks to her that not only is that Beringel extra crispy, but it's also because of her that Remy can now properly become a Huntsman." The blonde added, giving a reassuring smile towards Pyra, the Blade being grateful.
"I'd love to see your guys' home." Pyra said, excitement lining her voice. "But, what's a Huntsman?" The Blade added with a noticeable tilt of her head, causing Ruby and Yang to chuckle, and Qrow to grab his flask again after sheathing Harbinger.
'This is gonna be a LONG night.' Qrow thought, taking a swing from his flask.
And so, on that fateful May night, the world was forever changed. Unbeknownst to most, events from 500 years ago would re-emerge, and secrets would be revealed... Because the Aegis, has been reawakened.
