It was almost the end of summer just three more days till school starts in Hillwood. Today was beautiful day some kids were getting ice cream from Jolly Olly Man. Arnold was getting Helga's and his ice cream and talking with Gerald while he was getting his and Phoebe's.
"Dude you know summer is almost over right?" asked Gerald curious on what his best friend would say. Arnold on the other hand haven't noticed the girls weird conversation but said " Yes, Gerald I know I just haven't told her yet.. I should but..." Arnold looks at Helga and sighs. "I don't want her to be upset with me for leaving her for three years. I wouldn't be okay with that" "Mmm mmm mmm, Arnold I jyst Don't know how you handle it. Just do all of us a favor just tell her soon because she deserves to know." said Gerald. Arnold looked at hes long time friend and gave slight smile " i will tonight i promise"
"Helga..." whispered Phoebe."Hmm" Helga wasnt really paying attention. She looking at her phone seeing her sister texting her twelve times saying have you told your friends you moving??.. "Well...um have you told Arnold about your secret yet?" asked Phoebe quietly just in case someone over heard. "Oh what d-do you mean? S-s-secret What!" Helga then realized what her friend meant, "Oh no Pheebs..I don't think I can. Not yet anyways, let me enjoy the rest of the day with you guys okay?"
Phoebe sighed and quietly started " Well i think he deserves to know and..." she was interrupted when the boys came back with their ice cream. " Here we are and after this we can go catch that Evil Twin 4 tonight" said Gerald while smiling, "Yes Tall-hair boy if your not a chicken like Football head here.." says Helga while jabbing her thumb in Arnold's direction. Arnold just rolled his eyes and said " Whatever you say Helga" " Exactly whatever I say.. You know how to say the right words there Hair-boy now lets stop chattin and finish our ice creams and start walkin to the movies!!" They finished their ice cream and they left to go, and have fun at the movies and not thinking of anything like secrets that needs to be said.
After the movie all four kids started walking together Arnold and Helga upfront and then Gerald and Phoebe tailing behind. Then Phoebie and Gerald looked at each other and nodded. Phoebe said little louder so the two othe people could hear, "Well i had a great time guys! I hope we can do it again but its getting kind of late so Gerald...if you dont mind walking me home ...just you and I..alone..." Gerald looked at her like -why are you being so loud- but said " Yes i will my lady..." Looks at Arnold they do their famous hand shake" See ya later buddy..." Gerald says then Phoebe says to Helga "Have a great night Helga goodbye call me later okay?" both Helga and Arnold says their goodbyes and then Arnold nervously says " So Helga could i walk you home? Because I kinda...um need to tell you something." " Whatever floats your boat Foot..I mean Arnold...and I ..sorta gots stuff to tell you too" Says a very shaking Helga... In Helga's mind Oh no, my beloved what do you have on your mind...I know what I have planned to say will break your heart...trust me, I'm not happy about leaving you my love but i have no choice...I just hope we can still be together..
They both walked in silence toward Helga's house. Thinking on how to say what they know will hurt the person they love. As soon as they got to the same block as her house Helga broke the silence but still walking and grabbed Arnold's hand and squeezed little.
" You know Arnold... we walked for 10 minutes in silence...i can't really take it anymore ok..!! So..we both have something to say and i would like you to say what's on ur mind my beloved?" Arnold squeezes her hand in his and still didn't know how to put it so he said "Oh..uh..well I'm sorry Helga it's hard to say without..uh upsetting you.. Why don't you uh..tell me first..you are a lady after all" gives her his sweet smile and half lidded eyes the way she loves. Oh crimney he's good...Come on Helga ol girl calm your heart don't swoon like a crazy lady. Be like the old Helga that is rough around the edges... You got this..
"Oh don't you dare be a gentleman with me now there buddy boy i asked you first! Now spill what was the thing that might uoset me!.." Demanded Helga but trying not to be to harsh. Arnold just blinked... Wow...she really trying to fight like the old Helga...Even though now she shows her softer sweet side...well I guess I gotta show her my darker side if i ever going to try to stall wat i have to say...
Arnold stopped at Helga's door steps. looked at her and started his tougher verson "Helga, now i know you want me to go first but i think...huh wait..What's that in your window?" Arnold was distracted on what he was going tell Helga when he seen sign that said FOR RENT in the window. Helga turned her head to look then smacked her hand to her face and it trailed down it. "Well it's funny story really...hehe.. you probably going to find out sooner or later but.. um...My family thinks its great idea...by the way not my idea...okay...hehehe but we are moving to Alaska with Olga. At the end of summer...hehe" Helga said nervously.
Arnold just stared at her. He had blank look on his face. It didn't look upset, mad, or happy..Helga was getting so nervous like she thinks that she broke him. Then Arnold started to smirk then smile then little chuckling sounds came out then he said " Oh..My Helga was this what you wanted to tell me? That you were moving well I think its good opportunity to spend with your family! Wow Alaska beautiful I heard from your sister. So its nothing to worry yourself about."
"Are you serious Football Head? You think it's a joke!" Helga threw her arms into the air angerily. " I AM Moving!! Not coming back ever probably and your looking on the brightside! I figured you be devastated or worse heart broken like me that i have to leave.." "Helga I'm alittle upset that in 3days your leaving and I didn't know until now but we can still write to one another and.." Arnold started and was trying to pull Helga in for hug but got interrupted by Helga roughly pulling away and stateing " Arnold I'm not leaving in 3days I'm leaving tomorrow at midnight. And when i finally was going to tell you i figured you could convince my folks that you love me enough and can't live without me that i could live at the boarding house with you and your lovable family.. And not ever leave you. But i guess i was wrong about you...about us"
Arnold was shocked at what she was suggesting and he really needs to tell her now...Oh no! well i gotta tell her now..Well here goes nothing!
"You can't stay at the boarding house because I won't be there because I'm going to live in San Lorenzo with my parents next week...They asked me if I be will to go and I couldn't tell you...because I was scared that you'll be mad...So I think it's great you are getting along with your family thats why it is fine you are leaving too... New chapter for us" "What!! Why are... you leaving... Your parents talked bout leaving they didnt say you were going! You ..you...just going leave...me" Helga started to get watery eyes. Arnold looks at her and tries grabbing her hand and says "Helga listen it wasn't like i didn't want to tell you. It's just hard because i don't want to leave you, but. " She pulls her hand away quickly " No! Stop it.. I can't... believe you saying.. I... can't..it hurts and I...we can't be together...i mean long distance relationships always break up down the road eventually ...So we should break this off...now"
"What!!! why? What are you saying?? Helga ...this long distance could work I...I love you.. Please... Hel.." Arnold desperately. " I love you...b-but it hurts... And if you wanted to stay for me...I would believe this would work... I'm sorry but I don't think we aren't ment together if we are so far apart anyways... So we break up and go on the 'New Chapter' of our lives!!" she said starting to have tears in her eyes. Arnold said looking down at his hand that tried to hold hers one last time. "If it is what you really want then...okay i guess we will go our separate ways.." " Yes i do bye!!!" Helga said it too quickily and then she ran up to her stoop and opened and slammed door shut. Leaving Arnold outside alone. "Good-bye" and started his devastatedly lonely walk home.
Five years later...
Beginning of summer
Helga G. Pataki has grown into a beautiful young women. She doesn't wear same style anymore. She's wears pink still but mostly in tanks, t-shirts, and jeans or shorts and blue hoodie with it. She grew out of her dress jumper. She woke up to the sound of her sister calling her from outside her bedroom door. "Oh baby sister! It's time to rise and shine and join me, mummy, and daddy to a wonderful breakfast that I made for us!!" called Olga while opening the door. "Olga, how many times do i gotta tell ya...I'm not your 'Baby Sister' anymore im 17 years old! I'm practically a woman now! So please its saturday I would like my beauty sleep a little longer thank you...Just put my half in microwave to keep warm and I'll get to it when i get to it sheesh!" cried out Helga rolling over and pulling the covers over her head to ignore her older sister and her demands at the crack of dawn. Crimney! she's trying to kill me before my 18th birthday...I swear I'm going call Pheebs up and demand her to call Olga and say there's an emergency in Hillwood and I'm a secret spy or something...yeah that might work.. So I can get out of this nut house...yeah right Olga probably won't believe her...she's gotten quite smart over these last couple years...hmm
Olga looks at her in shock then shakes her head and starts giggling then went over and ripped the blanket off Helga and said " Oh Helga I know your little older now its just old habits okay?..And I want you to get up now we need to discuss something with you...And you going just love it!"
Helga rolled back over to face her sister and sat up and asked "What is it now? Please not another intervention on how I need to act sweet and nice like you on the next sell pitch at Bob's work...or some bogus crap like that..." chuckled Helga finishing her speech with little sarcasm.
"Oh baby sister trust me...it's nothing like that..So hurry up!!" giggled Olga again with a wink and a skip in her step. " Uhhh Fine, fine I'll be there...keep your pants on jeez." grunted Helga. She hurried like she was told and met her parents and sister at the table. They were already there waiting for her and then they started eatting.
"Well...what is the big news that Olga is blabbering on and on bout? What needs to be discussed?" asked Helga feeling bored already. " Well Ol- I mean Helga ...uh..." started Big Bob "Olga has informed us that you are still not happy living up here in Alaska." Helga dropped her fork with her scrabbled eggs on it... "Uhh How do you know...I mean ...My home is still Hillwood. I'm sorry." said Helga. She looked around the room to see Olga smiling at her and Miriam was looking at Bob to Helga and smiling. Big Bob cleared his throat to begin again before the other women in the room say what he has to say.
"Well girl we don't want you unhappy anymore. We are happy here but if your not..Well Olga suggested this and your mom and I agree... We are offering you to move back to Hillwood and rent out our old home.. Of course we will help pay at first but you need to find a decent job and pay us rent. Oh uh... And you can finish school there and if you want...you can go college anywhere...if you.. why are you looking at me like that..'??" said Big Bob getting little mad.
Helga didn't realized she had her mouth slight agape and just stareing at her dad Oh my... Oh my..Gooooshhhh no no no he didn't just say that... nope no way ...Olga suggested it and what is up with Miriam smiling and...Really i can go back...but why now??...Should i tell Pheebs...or anyone?...or...Arn...No no not thinking of him nope...I can't...not anymore...
She just realized Big Bob was waiting on her to reply. " Well... I um..You really mean it!.. Like ..Your not yanking on my chain? That I can leave?? Then yes!! I...I want to go back..." Helga said getting excited. Olga giggled and got up walked over to Helga and gave her bone-crushing hugs of hers. then she said "Oh baby sister I told you, you would love it. I'm so happy for you now why don't you start packing your things and Mummy and I can get your plane ticket for tonight and.." "Wait what...I'm leaving today? But how did you know I would say yes...and how did you know I'm not really happy Olga?" asked Helga even though she probably already knows the answer. "Helga... I heard you talking to your friend Phoebie over the phone couple nights ago...Sweetie you said we all get along better now but you still wish you lived in Hillwood with all your friends." said Olga sadly.
Miriam said while putting her arm around her daughters waists, " It was very hard to convience your dad to agree to it. He still sees you as a little girl. He really hoped you would say no.. But he knows that your unhappy...We all see it dear.." she says.
" Well if you guys are letting me then I'm goin' go...I gotta get ready okay.. T-thanks you know for trusting me and letting me go.." Helga said rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly. She then ran up the stairs to go pack. Olga smile went away and frown became visible. Miriam looked at her oldest daughter and smiles "Now no need to do the waterworks, she will be okay. She's a Pataki. We are strong independent women" "I know mummy, but..." sniffled Olga "I'm going to miss her so.. so ...so much..." cried Olga. "There.. there honey why don't you help me clean the table and I'll do the dishes okay?" suggested Miriam. Olga look back up at the stairs, and started wiping her mascara streaks off her cheeks and looks at her mom and nodded. Then they both disappeared into the dinning room to clear off the table.
Meanwhile in Hillwood
A young half Japenese woman Phoebe and a young coolest dude ever, Gerald is helping Phoebes' mom clean the livingroom for the surprise birthday party for her' dad. When Phoebes' cell phone rings she had her hands full with strimmers so she asks "Gerald could you get that for me and put it on speaker phone?" "Sure thing babe.." He says while picking up her phone to answer it. "Konnichiwa"(Hello) said Phoebe.
"Oh Pheebs you don't need to use Japanese on me. Just say Hello like a regular person sheesh." said the young women sarcastically on the other end. "Oh my Helga..My apologies. Ok english! What a wonderful surprise! How is it going in Alaska?" asked a very shocked Phoebe. "Everything just peachy okay, okay, listen i got some big biggest news ever! I mean i think it's very very big, HUGE even!" Helga said loud and excited. Phoebe looks at Gerald and he just shrugs his shoulders and looked at the phone waiting to hear the supposely big huge news. Phoebe on the other hand starts to think that maybe she should tell her best friend that she's on speaker just in case she doesn't want Gerald to know what she has planned to say.
"Uh..Helga..I" started Phoebe. "Hold a sec Pheebs I'm.." I need to tell you..." Phoebe tried to say. " Yah yah it can wait but what I am goin say is..." Helga interrupting her again " B-but" mumbled Phoebie. Then Helga said out loud " I'M MOVING BACK TO HILLWOOD EEEEEK!!!
" Oh my goodness really?!!? Helga that's so great! When and where are you going to live at ? And ..and" Phoebe asked excitedly and couldn't even think straight. She so happy her best friend is coming back.
"Okay I'll spill don't get your panties in a twist alright...Well it all started this morning..." Helga started to tell Phoebe what happened and Gerald still remained silence and listening intentively. Because he can't wait to tell someone about a certain blonde girl coming back. It might make things better for both blondes.
" You can not be serious?" said Phoebe not convinced "So ..what Pheebs?? I told you that aliens are among us." Helga said trying to convince her friend that she really doesn't know what the deal was that aliens probably put something in her sister or folks minds. " Helga I think they truely want you happy and I believe it too." Phoebe said.
"Yeah yeah too much mushy stuff for my taste...but I uhh..I kinda want to keep this on the down low okay? Like not telling lots of people or any at all if it can be helped..Like don't tell your little boyfriend bout me coming back. Cause I don't want him telling that jerk of a friend of his..." said Helga but didn't realize Phoebe had her on speaker and Gerald was there listening. Gerald couldn't take it anymore of the silence after finishing putting up the last of the decorations thats when he heard her talking bad about his best friend.
" Hey! You know that insulting someone that is not here is really low even for you Pataki." Gerald angrily said. " Hair-boy?" Helga said sounded confused because she thought Phoebe didn't have anyone there or that she wasn't on speaker. "Am i on speaker" asked Helga. " Yep" Gerald said with a pop sound at the end. Phoebie was shocked and felt bad for not informing Helga that she had guest and they were helping her mother with the decorations for the party. "My apologies Helga, I forgot to mention that I had Gerald over and we were helping my mother out with my father's surprise birthday party today. And I tried to tell you that you were on speaker but..."
" It's okay Pheebs I'll let it pass but Gerald-o dude... Do you know who you talking to? And it's only Arn...Football-head like he has feelings anyways... He's a sap probably living big life being in the jungle with his parents... Probably with someone new.." Helga said getting really mad now.
"Please Pataki we are 17 and you still think anyone will be scared of Ol' Besty and the Five Avengers..not this day in age honey...And Arnold isn't some sap. How dare you say he hasn't got any feelings...He's not that type to forget the love of his life...He's the guy that you broke his heart!! I can't believe you... How dare you say that..and for your info he never went to San Lorenzo with his folks when you left five years ago" shouted Gerald.
"Oh whatever I don't...wait...D-do wh-what? He...he never left b-but I thought..." Helga was stunned. Gerald sighed loudly and Phoebie put her hand on Greald's shoulder and patted it. Gerald shook his head and tried to say calmly, " Helga, i probably shouldn't of said all that stuff but you hurt my bestest friend and he really hasn't acted like hisself because of the...um..break-up and if you think you can insult him and get away with it well you have another thing coming... " said Gerald .
Does Gerald speak the truth.. Did he really say that to me...That Arnold never really left because of me...because I..I didn't really break his heart .. r-right...? I need to relax I mean really come on, I'm the one that has her heart broken not him..But Gerald just said that he hasn't acted the same since...oh what did I do to you for all these years.. If it's really true that I'm the cause of your unhappiness...I..I'm sorry...wait a minute did he say love of his life?? Helgas thoughts were cut off when she heard her sister calling from downstairs saying scaring her, " Baby sis- I mean Helga your flight for Hillwood will be at 10 o'clock pm tonight and I hope you packed most of your things"
" For crying out loud Olga I'm ready. Things are packed and will be down in a minute. Dang trying to give me a heart attack before i leave will ya geez!" one hand still holding the phone and the other holding her chest. " Look I don't want to feel worse then I already do about Foot- I mean Arnold and mine relationship problems.. Um..when I come back I promise to make amends with him okay Gerald? Just don't tell him I'm back...I'll uh..talk with him Deal?" Helga said nervously.
"I'm holding on to your promise there Pataki..If you do or say anything to him to make it worse for him. I swear nothing will help you. But we do have a deal.." Gerald threatened.
"Will you stop with the threats you know that's my thing...and I would love to show you how tough I have gotten over the years but right now i gotta go. Phoebe I will text you when I'm almost there for you to come pick me up alright?" said Helga.
Phoebe smiles and says, " Of course Helga I would love to pick you up to talk more and help you."
"That's why I mentioned it. So I guess I'll catch ya'll later... " Helga said then heard the others say their byes and she hangs up.
She thought..Great...now i really did it...trying to be excited and tell Phoebie then Gerald heard the whole thing...And trying to forget that jerk and move on and now pretty much as soon as get back I gotta talk to him.. Oh man, I'll be the biggest nut case ever and worse I'm a horrible person...Please mister big man upstairs... just tell me why fate has a funny way of doing things to me of all people. It really just likes ticking me off huh?... okay, Helga ol' girl you got this..maybe just maybe lady luck will be on my side..please!
