To Love Ru Resolution
A/N: Hello everyone. This is my first fanfic for TLR. This story takes place after the conclusion of the TLR Darkness manga. Personally, I feel that there are not enough fanfics out there that take place after the end of the manga, so here's a step towards fixing that.
I do not own To Love Ru, To Love Ru Darkness or any of their characters.
Chapter 1: Introspection and… a birthday party?
**Flashback/Dream Sequence**
(Haruna): Since middle school… I've always loved you.
**End of flashback**
Rito Yuuki woke up remembering Haruna's confession. It had been about two weeks since he and his longtime crush, Haruna Sairenji, had mutually confessed to each other. At the time, Rito had been ecstatic that his crush reciprocated his feelings, and he still was happy about it. However, there were some problems. For starters, while Haruna was indeed Rito's first love and best girl, Rito was also in love with the crown princess of the universe Lala Satalin Deviluke (and Lala had long since confessed that she herself loved Rito). Furthermore…
**Flashbacks**
(Run): Rito-kun, I love you.
(Yami): You are the target of my love.
(Momo):...I love you Rito from the bottom of my heart.
**Flashbacks end**
Rito recalled all of the other love confessions that he had received from other girls besides Lala and Haruna. Rito did not want to hurt any of the girls' feelings by just straight up rejecting them. However, what else could he do? It's not like he could just marry multiple girls, right? That would be the crime of polygamy, which is illegal in Japan. At least, this is the line of thinking that most people would have under normal circumstances. However, in the case of Rito Yuuki, another option had been presented to him. That option was the harem plan. Lala's youngest sister, Momo Belia Deviluke, had pointed out that as Lala's fiancee, Rito was slated to become the next king of the universe. As the king of the universe, Rito would be able to take as many wives/concubines as he wanted. That was a fair point. However, even if that point made logical sense, Rito just had a hard time accepting the concept of a harem. What's more, Haruna had outright stated to Rito that she could not accept a harem. What was Rito to do? Even if he did accept the harem plan, would he really be happy with it if Haruna was not in the harem?
Of course, Rito could take the option of rejecting the harem and simply starting a monogamous relationship with Haruna. Doing that however, might come with its own consequences aside from just hurting the other girls' feelings. As a reminder, Rito was supposed to succeed Gid Lucione Deviluke as king of the universe upon marrying Lala. If Rito rejected Lala however, then the Deviluke monarchy would once again be without a successor. How would Gid react to that? Would he destroy the earth as he had once threatened to do so before if Rito had declined the successorship? Additionally, would Lala, Nana and Momo just leave the Yuuki household and go back to Deviluke if Rito rejected Lala and just chose Haruna alone? Rito didn't want that to happen. The thought of Lala and her sisters leaving brought Rito so much sadness that he had broken down into tears when telling Lala about his and Haruna's mutual confessions, because he believed at the time that everything would have to change.
Finally, there was one more issue. Enemies. Ever since Lala had come into Rito's life, Rito and his friends/family had been targeted or harmed by several assassins and other enemies. Lacospo, Ghi Bri, Yami, Mea, Nemesis, Ranjula*, Azenda, Bladix, Kuro… All of these people had at one point or another tried to harm or kill Rito or someone that he cared about for reasons that either directly or indirectly had to do with Lala's presence in Rito's life. ( A/N: I bet some of you probably don't know or remember who Ranjula is. He only appeared in the manga, and he was an assassin who targeted Rito's life during a festival. He used threads produced from his body to attack. In the end Yami was able to defeat him.) In some cases, the earth was even nearly destroyed, such as the case with Yami's Darkness transformation. Now, it is true that some of the people who had once endangered him ultimately became his friends (e.g. Yami, Mea, and Nemesis). However, the fact remained that more enemies could come for Rito, his loved ones, or the earth as a whole in the future. Even if Lala were to leave Earth (and Rito's life), Rito could not guarantee that the enemies would stop coming. Simply put, the act of becoming Lala's fiancee had put Rito and the Earth on the universal radar to an extent. If Lala and her sisters were to leave, and some enemies were to target Rito despite Lala's departure, then Rito and his loved ones would be left endangered while having at least 3 less valuable allies to aid them. In short, rejecting Lala could be very bad for the safety of Rito and his loved ones.
(Rito's thoughts): What do I do about all of these problems? I have to make some kind of decisions eventually, but every possible outcome I can think of ends with at least one person (if not multiple) getting hurt. I wonder if I could talk to someone about all of these issues.
As Rito was musing about his troublesome love life, he heard a shout from downstairs.
(Mikan): Rito, breakfast is ready.
(Rito): Okay, I'm coming.
Rito got out of bed and walked downstairs to find Mikan preparing to serve breakfast and Celine sitting at the table.
(Rito): Good morning Mikan. Good morning Celine.
(Mikan): Good morning Rito.
(Celine): Mau Mau!
(Mikan): Hey Rito, can you go get Lala and her sisters?
(Rito): Sure.
Rito went back upstairs to get Lala, Nana, and Momo.
(Rito): Good morning Lala. Breakfast is ready.
(Lala): Good morning Rito.
Rito and Lala then proceeded to walk to Nana's room to get her as well. Meanwhile, in Momo's room, we see Momo laying down on her bed with a troubled look on her face.
(Momo's thoughts): Sigh… **Thinks back to hearing Rito call Haruna his best girl** I already knew that Rito loved Haruna the most, but hearing him actually say that to Haruna after the two of them confessed their feelings to each other… and after Rito declined the harem… it hurts. **Sniffle… A lone tear rolls down Momo's cheek**. Get yourself together Momo. Remember what you resolved to do.
Momo recalled how she had resolved to become Rito's best girl and how she still wasn't going to give up on the harem despite Rito's rejection of the harem and his confession to Haruna. Just then, Rito, Lala, and Nana come in.
(Rito): Momo, breakfast is ready.
(Momo): Okay
As everyone was walking downstairs, Momo continued her thoughts.
(Momo's thoughts): Come to think of it, Rito wasn't the only one who rejected the harem. Haruna rejected it too. If we could just get Haruna to accept it, then I bet Rito would accept it too.
As Momo was thinking this, everyone got downstairs and greeted Mikan and Celine. Everyone sat down at the table and started eating.
(Rito): Delicious as usual Mikan.
(Mikan): Why thank you.
(Celine): Mau ~ It's yummy!
(Mikan): Thank you Cel… *Mikan stops mid sentence*
Everyone stops eating and looks at Celine in shock.
(Rito): Celine, you just talked?!
(Celine): Yes mau!
(Mikan): Wow! Celine is learning how to talk. The only time we've heard her talk before was when she temporarily turned into a teenager.
(Nana): How did that happen last time anyway?
(Momo): I'm pretty sure it was because of the moon.
Hearing Celine talk (in her baby form) caused Rito to start thinking about some things.
(Rito's thoughts): That's right. That's something else that I have to worry about going forward. Celine's future. Eventually, we'll have to worry about things such as sending Celine to school. Man… I need to sort out all of my problems sooner rather than later. Hmmm… I can't really talk to Lala or Momo about these problems. They are too biased in this case. Both of them will just tell me to go down the polygamy route. Maybe…Nana? She might be a more objective party in this case.
Rito gives a subtle look to Nana. Nana notices it and questions it in her mind, but she doesn't say anything about it.
(Mikan): Okay… let's all get dressed and head off to school.
(Rito): Yeah
Everyone gets up, gets ready and sets out for the day (with Momo carrying Celine). As the group was walking, and after Mikan went her own separate way, Rito's group came across Haruna.
(Haruna): Good morning everyone.
(Rito): Good morning Sairenji.
(Lala): Hi ~ Haruna
Haruna joins the group and walks with them. Just then, Lala grabs both Rito and Haruna and yanks them into a hug. This causes Rito to lose his balance. Rito falls and pulls Haruna's pants down (revealing her plain white panties), while simultaneously pushing Lala down and knocking Peke off of Lala's head (thus stripping Lala completely naked). (A/N: By pants I actually mean skirt. Rito pulled Haruna's skirt down, but I just like saying that he pulled her pants down better).
(Rito): *Blushes while getting up* I'm sorry!
Rito flinches away and covers his face in expectation of a slap and a scream from Haruna. However…
(Lala): Heh heh heh… It's okay Rito. *Puts Peke and her clothes back on*
(Haruna): *Blushes* It's fine Rito. *Pulls her pants back up*
No backlash ever comes.
(Rito): You're not going to slap me, Sairenji?
(Haruna): Heh heh heh… I'm used to this kind of thing from you at this point, Yuuki-kun, and I know that you don't do these things on purpose.
(Rito): S-Sairenji *Rito smiles and cries tears of joy on the inside*
Lala and Haruna cling onto Rito, and the three of them continue walking while chatting and laughing happily. As these three were walking along and being all chummy, Nana and Momo were watching these interactions occur from behind the trio.
(Nana's thoughts): *Blushes and dons a pensive look on her face* Hmmm… Big sis and Haruna look so happy with Rito. Happier than usual I mean. Is it me, or have those three gotten a lot closer as of recently? And…Why does that give me this strange feeling inside?
(Momo's thoughts): Hmmm… Even though Haruna said that she could not approve of the harem, whether she realizes it or not, she certainly seems to enjoy hanging onto Rito alongside big sister. Maybe she might not be so opposed to the harem as she initially let on. Heck, she did not even get mad when Rito pulled her pants down. Maybe… just maybe she is coming to accept ecchi and erotic things more. What this really means is that she may be becoming more open minded. Perhaps all she really needs is a push to get fully on board with the harem. Still… seeing Rito look so happy with big sister and Haruna *Momo dons a jealous blush*... no no Momo, you can focus on becoming Rito's best girl later. Right now, you have your mission. Your mission is to give Haruna that final push she needs to get on board with the harem plan.
The group continued walking and they eventually reached the school. Upon entering the school, Momo handed Celine to Rito.
(Rito): *Turns to Lala and Haruna* Alright, I'm going to take Celine to Mikado Sensei's office and see you girls in class.
(Haruna): Alright Rito.
(Lala): Okay
Rito takes Celine to Mikado's office and then heads to class. The first couple of classes go on as normal, and then lunch time comes. Rito meets up with Lala and Haruna, and the three go to lunch chatting and laughing happily. As the three head off, several girls look on and notice how close the trio looked.
(Yui): Is it me, or does Yuuki-kun seem to have gotten a lot closer to Lala-san and Sairenji-san as of late?
(Nemesis): Ufufu… Are you jealous?
(Yui): *Blushes* Ah… No! It's just that… two girls clinging onto a boy like that is so shameless!
(Mea): Are you sure you don't want to go join them, Shameless-Senpai?
(Yui): Absolutely not! And…I'm not shameless!
Just then, Risa comes up behind Yui and starts groping her as she usually does.
(Risa): But you have such a shameless body Kotegawa. Ufufufu
(Yui): Cu…Cut it out Momioka!
As Risa continues her antics with Yui, Nemesis convenes with Mea and starts speaking so that only the two of them could hear.
(Nemesis): Still… Kotegawa does seem to have a point. Rito does look to have gotten closer to Lala and Haruna.
(Mea): It's probably because of Rito-senpai and Haruna's mutual confessions a couple of weeks ago. Since then, senpai's and Haruna's nervousness around each other has most likely decreased, and they have been able to spend more time with each other, along with Lala, as a result.
(Nemesis): You're probably right about that. This is good for the harem plan. However, it's not enough.
(Mea): What do you mean?
(Nemesis): Remember? Haruna opposed the harem plan two weeks ago. Rito most likely won't accept the harem plan if Haruna doesn't. It is good that Rito is getting closer to her and Lala. However, so long as Haruna doesn't accept the plan, then Rito won't accept it and he, Lala and Haruna will just stay in that love triangle forever. In order to get Haruna to accept the plan, some big moves will need to be made. However, you know how timid and somewhat indecisive Rito can be when it comes to these things. Rito probably won't have the nerve to make any big moves.
(Mea): So are you suggesting that we should make some moves to give Haruna the push she needs to embrace the harem?
(Nemesis): That is exactly what I am suggesting.
As Mea and Nemesis continue their talk and their scheming, Nana, Momo and Yami approach them.
(Yami): What are you two talking about?
(Mea): We were just talking about my upcoming birthday.
(Nana): Wahhh! Your birthday?!
(Mea): Yep. I'm going to have a birthday party at my house next Saturday. Everyone is invited.
(Nana): That's great!
(Yami): Hmm… Maybe I could bake something for your birthday. Mikan has been teaching me how to cook.
(Mea): That's wonderful. Are you learning how to cook to please Rito Senpai?
(Yami):*Blushes* Wha… What does Yuuki Rito have to do with anything?!
(Nana):*Also blushing* Yeah… Mea! Why would she be trying to please that beast?!
(Mea): Tee hee. It's nothing to be ashamed of. After all, Yami-Oneechan, you did say that Rito was the target of your love.
(Yami):*Gets even more flustered* M…Mea!
(Nana): W..Wait what! Yami, you said what?! (*Thinking* Yet another girl likes Rito. Big sis, Momo, Haruna, and now Yami too? Why…does that upset me for some reason?)
As Yami, Nana and Mea continued to chat, Nemesis subtly signaled Momo over to her.
(Momo): Why do I get the feeling that this party of Mea's has an ulterior motive?
(Nemesis): Ufufufu. Nothing gets past you Momo-Hime. Wouldn't you say that the specific duo of Rito and Haruna needs a certain push if the harem plan is to succeed?
(Momo): Well…that is what I was sorta thinking about earlier. So…I take it that you have some kind of plan for giving them this push at this party?
(Nemesis): Indeed I do.
Nemesis proceeds to whisper the details of the plan in Momo's ear.
(Momo): That plan is…ethically questionable…but…
(Nemesis): But you know it's necessary. You know that Rito and Haruna won't budge on their stances or even make any progress in their current relationship if we don't take some extreme measures.
(Momo): *Sigh*... I hate that you are right. Okay, let's do it.
Just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch and the time to get to the next class. Nevertheless, Mea and Nemesis went on to inform many people about the upcoming party. The guest list included Rito, Haruna, Mikan, Lala, Nana, Momo, Celine (she would just be brought along anyway), Yui, Yami, Saki, Aya, Rin, Run, Ren, Saruyama, Risa, Mio and Oshizu. The rest of the school day went off without issue and everyone went home.
That evening, Nana was in her room just hanging out in her t-shirt and panties while reading a manga and contemplating what kind of gift she wanted to give Mea for her birthday. Just then, there was a knock on the door to her room.
(Rito): Nana, I'm coming in.
Rito walks in without waiting for an answer. Nana stands up, looks down and blushes (remembering that she is in her panties right now).
Nana: Kyahhh!
Rito: *Blushes and goes wide eyed* W…Wait Nana. I'm sorry! I…
*SLAP*
Quite predictably, Nana slapped the taste out of Rito's mouth before putting on some shorts.
(Nana): Geez… Learn to knock and wait for an answer you beast! Anyway, what do you want? I saw you give me a strange look earlier this morning, and I figured you must have something on your mind that you want to talk to me about.
(Rito): Yeah, I do. You see, lately I've been thinking about my future and the various issues in my life, and I wanted to talk to you because I thought that you might be the most unbiased out of you three sisters in regards to this particular topic. What I want to ask you is…What do you think would happen if I started a normal monogamous relationship with Haruna? In other words, what if I were to reject Lala? What would you three sisters do, and what would your father do? Would he… destroy Earth?
Upon hearing Rito's questions, Nana's face took on a pensive, shocked and worried look.
(Nana): Rito… why are you asking me these things?
(Rito): Because Nana… I have come to realize that my life is like a ticking time bomb. There is the whole issue of the Devilukean succession. There is the issue of how several assassins and other enemies have threatened me, my loved ones, and even the entire earth, mostly because of me and the Devilukean succession issue. Then there are several people's feelings to consider, and then there is also the fact that I have essentially been raising a child (Celine). I can't keep being indecisive about everything. I need to make some decisions in regards to this shaky love life of mine, as well as other things.
Nana starts shaking slightly and looking even more worried.
(Nana): R…Rito… Okay, let's start with the part about you starting a relationship with Haruna. Did something happen between you two? Like… did someone confess to someone?
(Rito): Yeah. We both confessed to each other.
Nana inwardly gasps and visibly shakes even more. Her eyes become teary.
(Rito): I would hate for you girls to have to leave. In fact it would devastate me. You girls have become precious family to me. However…
Hearing these words caused something to snap within Nana. Without thinking, and with a few tears starting to fall down her cheeks, Nana tackled Rito to the ground and kissed him passionately.
Unbeknownst to Rito and Nana, Momo was eavesdropping right outside the door with tears streaming down her own face.
