Chapter 7
Eric started investigating the explosion, but more data was needed to make any determinations. They only knew that it was an alien device. Its purpose could not be defined. Nothing found at the South African office mentioned the instrument.
Eric visited Joseph Barlow and asked if he knew anything about the unusual instrument. He brought pictures of the explosive apparatus and the destruction from the explosion.
Joseph viewed the pictures, "Hmm! They actually made it. Was Ralph Hinkley killed?" with a hopeful expression.
"No, why would you ask that?"
"Because the mechanism was designed to execute him,"
"What do you mean?"
"It was supposed to sense Ralph Hinkley's DNA, and when he got near, it would explode and get rid of him."
"How was it supposed to work?"
"It would send out a frequency wave that would react with his DNA and entice him to come closer to the device. It would activate the explosive charge and annihilate him when he got close."
"Well, it didn't work. Are there any other murder projects we should be aware of?"
"That was the last one I heard about before you captured me. Since I gave you the information you requested, can I get a new juicer? Mine has died, and the guards wouldn't give me a new one."
"I'll see what I can do."
When Eric returned to the Hero compound, he told Ralph what Joseph said about the mechanism.
"Well, it definitely enticed me to search for it. Like I said, my skin crawled from the frequency wave it sent. But I wonder why it didn't explode when I got next to it. It started pulsating faster, and the whining sound got louder, but it took another 10 minutes before it exploded."
Eric conjectured, "Maybe it was because the green guy's ancient genes were activated, and it, so to speak, got confused with your and the green guy's DNA."
"I wonder how many more Kill Me projects are out there?"
