It's a level of composure one gets trained in, a keep your distance so no one looks on and thinks much of it type of composure. Haki is used to things like this, used to playing pretend with her feelings when the moment is convenient to, even though it isn't always required.

The act is one thing, and Izana right beside her is another. Haki is smiling, but it is small and carefully controlled, and she feels a bit like a chess piece and a live wire at the same time. Izana is close enough to touch, and more importantly, close enough that he could reach out and very easily wrap an arm around her waist and pull her close.

But she is to be queen, and it is too much of a risk to make this look like anything other than mere calculation. It would be disastrous to let others see that she loves him, and that he loves her.

So, Haki plays the part like a carefully crafted doll, and when there is no one around, she is able to drop the charade.

For a moment, with no crowded ballroom, just a wide, open hallway, she's able to lean up and kiss him, to feel Izana close to her, and the way her heart picks up its own pace, like now, here we are.

And it's warm here. Away from the noise and the bustle of people, and a stolen moment is a stolen moment. And the kiss ends far too soon.

"Our engagement is almost over." Smooth, like liquid, he speaks, and the words, themselves, would mean nothing if she didn't know him better.

"Yes." A pause, "And we'll be married soon."

Izana smiles, something small and nearly imperceptible, but she saw it. And Haki knows fully that Izana is also looking forward to that day.

Soon, the charade will have borders where the walls can come down far more frequently, though it also means the charade will have to be maintained more often. Self-control is a good thing, if a lot of work at times.

"We will be." And the words are as breathless and easy as a sigh, but when Haki looks up into Izana's eyes, there's that little trace of warmth. And they'll be there soon. And then, they'll get to enjoy their promise lived out.

From calculation to love, they're making it.
