Chapter 3: Beach Trip Turned Bull Hunt

Grover and Percy had just entered the apartment where Percy lived with his stepfather, Gabriel. Gabe was always playing poker with his buddies, and was a general slob. As usual, after his run-in with Enyo or Emily, whenever she interacted with mortals, Gabe knew not to do anything physical; in his own words, " I don't want anything to do with that military bitch with a short fuse on steroids."

Gabe usually ignores Percy and Percy leaves him; most times Gabe doesn't interfere with his mother. Sally has tolerated a lot from him, but Gabe isn't stupid – he knows if he does anything too obvious, he will be dealing with a pissed off woman who's not afraid to kick him so hard between the legs he might as well have been castrated. He also knows that Percy can fight, thanks to the quote-unquote "bitch" who taught him. If Percy sees him doing something he doesn't approve of, the "bitch" will have his head on a pike.

Grover and Percy went into his room, which was dirty due to Gabe. They sat on his bed, waiting for his mother to arrive in about a half an hour. Eventually, she did, and they had their usual banter. After explaining everything to her, she agreed that Grover could stay with them for a while.

Percy and his mom had an annual beach trip to a place called Montauk; this was where Sally met his father. The three of them cleaned out the cabin they were staying in, after finishing and taking a short break, there was a knock on the door. Sally opened the door and it was Enyo; Sally let her in and she spoke, " Percy, Sally, satyr, I wish this was a social visit, but we really need to talk."

When everyone was seated, she continued, " Percy, the time has come for you to be sent to Camp Half-Blood. Zeus suspects your true lineage, and Hades already knows. There is a monster coming; I don't know who sent it, but what I do know is that one of them is planning on taking advantage of this to execute their plans. Once the monster is destroyed, go to camp, where the satyr will grant permission for Sally to enter. Tell Chiron that I, Enyo, demand this mortal be protected at Camp Half-Blood until this mess is cleared up."

Grover nodded in understanding and not wanting to piss off a war goddess. Percy asked, " Which one are we dealing with?"

Enyo said, " The son of Pasiphae."

Grover began to panic.

Enyo continued, " This is as much a test as it is a challenge. You can only use the abilities that I have blessed you with and not those of your father."

Percy said, " Alright, come on, Grover; let's go hunting."

Grover asked, " Why do I have to go with you?"

Percy said, " Because you can smell the monsters."

Grover and Percy stepped off the cabin and went searching for the creature. Percy said, " Kanabo (καναμπο)… Rock Wrecker (Καταστροφέας βράχου)."

The Rock Wrecker was a Kanabo made of celestial bronze with stygian iron spikes and a bulbous head. Percy gave Grover the smaller one; Grover asked, " Why a club? I know for a fact that you have more effective weapons."

" One it's called a Kanabo," Percy said while pointing at the weapon. " I want its horns for a pair of stiletto."

Grover said, " Is shoes really a use of the horn?"

Percy yelled, " Grover! The dagger, not the shoe! Seriously, what use do I have for such shoes?"

Grover winced at that and nodded. It made more sense. They had been searching for over an hour now, and the rain had even started pouring. Grover said, "I got his scent. Follow me."

Percy and Grover were running through the beach in hopes of catching up to the monster. They had finally found him. The monster was seven feet tall, his arms and legs as muscular as any bodybuilder would be envious of, with bulging biceps and triceps all stuffed like baseballs beneath veiny, webbed skin. And the only thing he wore was a bright white Fruit of the Loom underwear. This was the Minotaur.

Grover and Percy were some distance from the Minotaur; it was just a matter of time before it found them. Grover was helping Percy come up with a plan of attack.

Percy got into position and waited for the Minotaur to sense him. Grover was hidden just in case Percy needed his help. The beast sensed him; Percy watched attentively encase the creature moved. The Minotaur found him; it charged straight for him. Percy sidestepped, allowing the monster to pass harmlessly by him. Then he slammed the Rock Wrecker into its back. The Minotaur fell. Percy didn't give the Minotaur an inch; he slammed his weapon onto the ground, causing a small earthquake.

The Minotaur was off-balance; Percy charged at the monster, using his Kanabo. He broke the Minotaur's right leg, then the other leg. For good measure, he broke both of the monster's arms. Percy climbed over the monster's head and summoned a Gigli saw—the wire was made from stygian iron.

Carefully cutting off the horns of the Minotaur, the horns were about fifteen inches long. He then summoned a sword and drove it straight through the head of the beast.

Grover came out, and Percy said, "That was disappointing; at least I got what I wanted."

Grover said, "Dude, that's the son of Pasiphae."

Percy said, "I know." He shook his head. "I don't understand how my brother had so much trouble with it."

Grover looked at him as if he were stupid; when the boys got back to the cabin, they packed everything to leave. The trip was quiet and uneventful, thankfully. When they got to camp, Percy, Grover, and Sally spoke to Mr. Brunner.
