Chapter 4
Kagome had always prided herself on her open and honest communication with her son, Izuku. After her successful meeting with Recovery Girl and the confirmation that she would become the school nurse at U.A. High School, she couldn't wait to share the news with him. She knew he would be thrilled but also understood that he might have concerns, just like any child would when their parent embarked on a new adventure.
One evening, after they had finished dinner together, Kagome sat down with Izuku at the kitchen table. She could see the anticipation in his eyes as she cleared her throat to speak.
"Izuku, there's something important I want to talk to you about," Kagome began, her gaze fixed on her son's earnest green eyes.
Izuku tilted his head slightly, a mix of curiosity and excitement evident in his expression. "What is it, Mom? You seem pretty serious."
Kagome smiled warmly, reaching across the table to hold Izuku's hand. "Well, sweetheart, I have some great news. I've been offered a job at U.A. High School."
Izuku's eyes widened, and a wide grin spread across his face. "U.A. High School? That's amazing, Mom! But wait... what kind of job is it?"
Kagome chuckled at her son's enthusiasm. "I'll be the school nurse, Izuku. I'll take care of the students' health and well-being, just like a hero takes care of their comrades on the battlefield."
Izuku's excitement was palpable as he practically bounced in his seat. "That's incredible, Mom! You'll be right there in the school, helping students and supporting them. I'm so proud of you!"
Tears welled up in Kagome's eyes at her son's genuine happiness for her. She squeezed his hand affectionately. "Thank you, Izuku. Your support means the world to me."
Izuku's expression shifted slightly, and a touch of concern crept into his voice. "Mom, are you sure you'll be okay? I mean, you haven't worked as a hero in a while, and being around students with quirks... it could be dangerous."
Kagome appreciated her son's thoughtful nature and his worry for her safety. She smiled reassuringly. "Izuku, I'll be just fine. I've been going over my medical training, and I'll make sure to stay updated on quirks and their effects. Plus, I won't be in any combat situations. My main goal is to take care of the students and ensure they're healthy and happy."
Izuku nodded, his worry easing slightly. "Okay, Mom. I trust you. And if you ever need help or advice, you know I'll always be here for you, right?"
Kagome's heart swelled with love for her son. "I know, Izuku, and I'm so grateful to have you as my son. We'll face this new adventure together, just like we've faced everything else in life."
Izuku beamed at his mother. "Together, Mom. We're a team, no matter what."
As mother and son shared a heartfelt moment, they both knew that this new chapter in Kagome's life would bring its challenges, but they were ready to face them together, their bond stronger than ever. Kagome couldn't have been prouder of her son's unwavering support and optimism, and Izuku couldn't have been prouder of his mother's determination and willingness to make a positive impact on the students of U.A. High School. Their journey was just beginning, and they faced the future with hope and determination.
As the days went by and Kagome prepared for her new role as the school nurse at U.A. High School, she couldn't help but notice that her son, Izuku, was spending more and more time away from home. His late nights and long hours of studying had become a regular occurrence, and it left Kagome feeling a mixture of pride in his dedication and worry about his well-being.
One evening, as they sat down for dinner together, Kagome couldn't contain her concern any longer. She cleared her throat and looked at Izuku with a gentle but probing gaze.
"Izuku," Kagome began, "I've noticed that you've been spending a lot of time away from home lately. Is everything okay?"
Izuku glanced up from his plate, his expression a mix of surprise and guilt. He hadn't realized that his mother had been keeping track of his schedule. He cleared his throat nervously before responding, "Oh, um, yeah, Mom. Everything's fine. I've just been studying a lot because... well, you know, the U.A. High School entrance exam is pretty supposed to be super challenging."
Kagome's worry deepened as she heard his explanation. She had expected that Izuku might be feeling the pressure of trying to get into U.A. High, but there was something about his tone that made her wonder if there was more to the story.
She reached out and placed a hand on his, her voice gentle but concerned. "Izuku, you can always talk to me if something's bothering you. Is there something you're not telling me?"
Izuku hesitated for a moment, torn between his desire to confide in his mother and a promise he had made to All Might. He looked into his mothers eyes, seeing the genuine concern and love there, and made a decision.
"Mom," he began, "there's something I haven't told you. It's about... my quirk."
Kagome's heart skipped a beat as she listened intently. She knew that Izuku had been born without a quirk, but she had never pressed him on the topic, respecting his privacy.
Izuku continued, his voice slightly shaky, "You see, Mom, I... I have a quirk now. All Might gave it to me. He transferred his quirk to me, and that's why I've been spending so much time training and studying. I didn't want to worry you, and All Might made me promise not to tell anyone, but I couldn't keep this a secret from you. You're my mom, its always been us against the world."
Kagome's eyes welled up with tears as she processed her son's revelation. She felt a surge of mixed emotions—pride in his determination, worry for his safety, and love for the bond they shared. She reached out and held his hands tightly.
"Izuku," she said, her voice trembling with emotion, "I'm so proud of you for your dedication and for confiding in me. I'll always support you, no matter what. But I'm also worried about your safety. You have to promise me that you'll be careful and not take unnecessary risks." She'd seen the state All Might had been left in after many a battle while she was still in the field as an active hero. While she had never worked with him personally, he was after all her superior even back then, she knew he often pushed himself to go "plus ultra" and paid dearly for it. As a mother she would be damned if he instilled the same reckless mindset into her son. Yes, courage, selflessness, and a go get em attitude were good to have but they were also a double-edged sword, one that he had placed in her only child's hands, all the while trying to cut him off from his support system with demands of secrecy and digression.
Izuku nodded earnestly. "I promise, Mom. I'll be careful, and I won't do anything reckless."
Kagome pulled him into a warm hug, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I love you so much, Izuku. And I'll always be here for you, no matter what challenges you face."
Izuku hugged his mother tightly, feeling a sense of relief and gratitude wash over him. He knew that All Might would not be pleased that he had revealed his secret, but he also knew that his bond with his mother was worth it. As they held each other, mother and son shared a moment of understanding and unwavering support, ready to face the future together, quirks and all.
In the back of her mind Kagome made a mental note to seek out and talk to All Might at the next faculty meeting, she had a lot to say to the man on his approach to teaching and mentoring impressionable young kids.
