So I decided to make introducing Abby and Shannon part of a small five part story. The chapter's won't be in any particular order but it's my version of a hypothetical season 3. Basically Stacey's parents are divorcing and she's forced to move back to New York for an uncertain amount of time. The BSC advertised at the baby parade which got them super busy. With the two happening at the same time, the BSC is searching for new members. Logan was last chapter, up next is going to be Shannon. I actually thought it was going to Abby, I was farther along with her but decided no Shannon should be next.
I did purposely omit Tiffany though, mainly because I think she won't add anything at least to the fic I'm writing. Maria stayed as a potential friend of Karens and her favorite movie effected what they named their dog lol. I wanted Shannon to have a friend in the club aside from Kristy and thought Stacey fit the bill best. I gave her a preppy style to update her look.
Stacey McGill let out a breath. She glanced back at Kristy's house before going across the street and to the right to knock on the door. She could hear a dog whining on the other side.
"No Astrid," said a voice before the door opened. In front of her stood another blond holding the puppy back. Her curls pulled back in a half down and up style, her casual yet preppy outfit cute: a teal argyle sweater with a white collar peaking out paired with jeans. "Hey Stace!"
"Hey Shay," she said hugging the girl.
"Still a better nickname then Shannie," she muttered rolling her eyes.
Her real name was Shannon Kilbourne, and her mom nicknamed her Shannie. Stacey had met her when Sam Thomas invited her over to hang out by the pool. He and Charlie had invited some of their new neighbors over. Even though she spent most of the time with Kristy; she still met the girls her own age, Shannon and Abby Stevenson, at the same time.
"Anyway we have the house all to ourselves for a bit. Maria has swim practice, dad's working late again, and mom is organizing some gala with Mrs. Delaney. Want a snack? I have stuff for homemade parfaits and we can take Astrid for a walk."
Astrid who was next to the door perked up at the word snack and wagged his tail at walk.
"Sounds great," she said adjusting her insulin.
After the snack and Astrid clipped to a leash, they headed out to Millier's Park which was close by. Shannon had told her that the adopted her at Mrs. Delaney's charity last year. Astrid came from a litter at a puppy mill. Stacey only nodded only waiting to tell her the bad news.
"Is everything Stacey?" asked Shannon. "You know you could talk to me."
"Shannon, my parents are getting a divorce," said Stacey her voice breaking, ready to cry as she felt the tears leak out.
"Oh, I'm so so sorry Stacey," said Shannon wrapping her in a hug. "Here hold Astrid, I hear dogs are great at comforting people. Want to talk about it?"
Stacey laughed as she accepted Astrid in her lap. They had taken a seat underneath the weeping willow at the edge of the lake. Astrid licked her nose before cuddling up against her.
"Thanks, I've already talked to my parents and I'm talking to my friends. It really helps. Um the thing is my parents want to move me back to New York. Just to sort things out and I'm going with them."
"I'm going to miss you," said Shannon, as she squeezed her from the side.
"There's something I wanted to ask you though. So, you know the BSC, the club I was talking about? I know you really like baby-sitting, so I want you to replace me as treasurer even if it's just temporary. I know you're really busy as it is and I haven't talked to Kristy. I think you guys would be great friends. I know you've had a hard time since Sally –"
"Okay no need to remind me of that, but yes I'd be happy to step in for a bit. If this Kristy Thomas lets me," said Shannon waving her hands away from that topic.
"She will, I'm sure of it. Okay so let's stop talking about depressing stuff and play with your puppy. What made you pick the name Astrid?"
"So we chose it from that movie How To Train Your Dragon. Maria has been obsessed with it."
Together the two girls talked as Stacey felt her mind at ease. She made a promise that she would come back to Stoneybrook as soon as she could. Maybe, just maybe, one of her parents would want to stay forever.
