"My scan is showing the frat house is still empty and so is the complex. We found an evac point in Miller's Woods and sealed it awhile back. Neither it nor the front entrance to the complex were very well secured. Very simple voice recognition program, that's all. Took Jonno all of two minutes with standard hacker programs to get in." Alexander told them. As they made their way inside and to the elevator. "Jonno left them in place and just put a work around in. We didn't want anyone stumbling in accidentally."

"Probably a good idea. But how did they manage to build this with no one noticing?" Carter asked.

"Ah, that brings us to Mayor Richard Wilkins the First, Second and Third. All the same man. A little more then a century ago, he made some sort of deal with the creatures from that dimension. He was in his mid forties at the time. They managed to suspend his aging process. In exchange, he deliberately created the dimensional tear some how. The deal was, he allowed the creatures drawn to it to feed on humans and in return he would get something for it besides immortality. To keep people from noticing he wasn't aging or was the only Mayor of Sunnydale, he found a way to make a somebody else's problem field around Sunnydale. Thousands died while he kept real estate prices low enough for a constant influx of people. None of the officials around here were competent. Not even remotely and that was on purpose. They fudged the crime statistics. You take a look at them, you'll see gang attacks, in a city with no gangs, animal attacks, in a city that doesn't even have a need for a dog catcher and a whole lot of teenage run aways. Including Jesse McNally, a sixteen old boy who was taken the same day Buffy moved in to town. Two days later, the Xander part of me stuck a stake in his chest and destroyed what was left of him. He was the closest thing to a brother he had ever had."

"He gave his brother's spirit peace." Teal'C said. It was enough.

"It was a news article about the death of the Mayor of Sunnydale that alerted us to something possibly going around here." Carter said. "Then we saw a news report about people using ray guns to fight monsters."

"Both were us. When our investigation turned up evidence of the Mayor's part in all of this, we also discovered, he was using the Earth's energy to form a protective shield around himself. We turned that shield back on him. Entropy caught up to him. Fast."

"That explains the condition of the body." Carter said, thoughtfully. "Extreme rapid aging destroyed him. Fitting."

"Indeed."

"And as for the ray gun story. Well, someone, we never found out who, invited a clan of demons to town. They're sensitive to the frequencies of voices, so sensitive that those frequencies can actually kill them. They used something to dampen those frequencies, leaving everyone in town with no voice. But they did it, so they could kill seven people in some sort of ritual and take their hearts. Oz figured out a way to broadcast those frequencies and ran through them until one worked and killed them. We were out hunting them and ran into a couple of them and killed them with our pulse pistols. Oz's trick, also canceled out their own and allowed us to get our voices back."

"Things used to be alot worse around here." Buffy said. "Alexander and Corda's technology has made things alot more peaceful around here."

"Now if only we could close the rift, but we also need to find out where the others are and close them." Alexander said. "In here is where we found the bodies we told you about. Only one was known to be hostile. We took the bodies of the ones we knew had death rituals and incinerated the rest. The hostile one was a Pogara. They have a retractable bone spike they use to skewer prey. It's in their lower right arm. The whole lower arm had been removed, prior to death. It didn't bleed out, only because it had a way of slowing its own blood flow. Humans aren't supposed to be the monsters, but they all too often are."

"So these creatures have rituals of their own? Culture?" Daniel asked.

"Some have languages and technology. They can learn human languages and humans can learn theirs. Doesn't change them wanting to torture, kill or eat various parts of us." Johnathan told them, as they headed back out of the complex.

"And the person in charge of whatever was going on here, Dr. Maggie Walsh, according to Captain Finn, escaped. Possibly to try again." Carter said, grimly.
