After Liz came back from passing off the canary to Abe, Hellboy, and Krauss, Maizie had announced that she needed air. It wasn't just that. She wanted to step out so she wouldn't have to be next to Manning. She needed to be alone for a moment. She kept her earpiece in just in case she had to jump into action. She let out a shuddered breath.
She felt like she was being replaced. She had only been with them working for a year and then suddenly felt like she's about to be kicked out. She looked down at her bandaged hand. It was a stark reminder of how she had gotten out of control for a moment. She was sure that some of the agents who had witness her quick outburst had reported to Manning. Maybe she was no longer a fit agent.
Maybe this wasn't her place anymore. After all, she suffered from nightmares almost every night, and she avoided Abe's touch so he wouldn't see her secrets she held from him. She thought back through the year about the man. She and Abe had made some kind of connection after the events of Rasputin but the thought that she no longer had a choice or control over her future kept her from fully embracing the relationship that had been developed. She broke it off.
She sighed. She did so much and maybe it was all a mistake. She wrapped her hands around her arms as a little cool breeze blew around her. She could hear the chatter of the men as they tricked and forced the old troll to show them where the entrance to the troll market was. She heard Krauss speaking to Liz and Manning. She turned around and saw them still watching the cameras. They spoke to each other. She could hear Manning fawning over Krauss.
The troll screamed through the mike, and she winced. She could hear Krauss claiming he can open the door. The exclamations of surprise that Hellboy and Abe made, then market noises rang over the radio. They succeeded.
Then there was silence.
At first, she thought the radio cut out, but when she looked down at it, she could tell it was still going on. She looked up to Liz and Manning, and then the next thing she knew, she was no longer there. Her eyes went white, and she let out a gasp as her head threw backwards. The motion of her head caused her body to fall backwards. Liz heard the gasp and looked over. Luckily, one of the agents nearby caught her before she landed on the hard concrete.
"Oh shit," Liz exclaimed as she got up and ran to Maizie. Manning followed her.
"What's going on?" Manning asked as they both reached her. Liz grabbed Maizie's arm and looked at her face.
"She's having a vision. We need to get her inside now," Liz said. Manning directed the agent to pick her up and set her in one of the chairs in the truck. The agent followed orders and Maizie was set in a chair. Manning and Liz sat in the other chairs on each side of her. They each held an arm to help her stay upright.
Neither one of them could see what she was viewing.
Maizie found herself surrounded by all sorts of creatures. She realized quickly that she was in the troll market. She didn't know why or how she was having this vision, especially since she had not touched anything. She looked around and spotted the men. She went up to them.
"Hey!" She cried out but they didn't hear her.
She became frustrated. Nobody could see or hear her. All she could do was follow them. They walked through the throng of creatures. Then they separated. Maizie didn't know who to follow. But then the vision shifted, and she suddenly was right beside Abe.
"Fresh fish, get your fresh fish…" A creature called out in a foreign language that she somehow understood. It had a large knife. The knife went down, and Abe jumped with a loud exclaim of noise as the fish was decapitated. Maizie almost wanted to laugh.
Abe turned and Maizie followed. They met up with Hellboy and Krauss. She could hear Krauss admonishing Hellboy.
"You know, I think he's right," Abe said. But Hellboy gave him a look.
Abe walked away from Hellboy after his look. Maizie felt pulled to his direction and she followed him. She wasn't sure why Abe was so important to follow instead of Hellboy. Was something bad going to happen to him? She felt afraid that maybe she might lose the chance with him. Maybe she should have told him about her visions.
Then Abe stopped.
She watched him turn as if he sensed something and she spotted a person hidden in a cloak at the same time he did. Then she understood. It wasn't about Abe. It was about this person.
She heard Abe whisper, "The Royal Seal."
The person stepped down the stairs and almost left but then looked at him. Abe tried to covertly hide but he was still a little too obvious.
"Brother Red, do you read me?" Abe's voice spoke into the ear mike, but she couldn't hear the reply given by Hellboy because she got pulled away from Abe.
She appeared suddenly beside the figure they had spotted. The cloaked figure rapidly walked through the people, and she followed them. Abe showed up. They both followed the person together. The person turned a corner, and they found the person walking into a building. The person closed the door and windows, hiding whatever might go on. Abe walked past her, and she followed. He opened the door and they entered.
When they walked in, the person had disappeared and instead a creature approached them.
"Can I help you with something?"
"No, thank you. I'm just looking," Abe replied as he looked around.
"Sir!" the shopkeeper exclaimed. "You can't go in there!"
Abe ignored him. Then another voice spoke.
"Sir, why are you following me?"
Maizie and Abe turned to see the figure was a woman instead. But while Abe didn't know who she was, Mazie did. She recognized her from the vision she had earlier.
"I…I was just hoping to find an old map chart of Algiers," Abe lied.
"Why are you following me?" The woman asked again.
"I was not," Abe insisted. Maizie knew Abe should've quit while he was ahead.
"Did my brother send you to steal the crown piece?" The woman asked.
Maizie mouthed 'brother?'. The word seemed to be a trigger as suddenly everything changed. She was no longer with Abe and the woman in the market. She was outside where her body was. She looked around and saw chaos. Then she looked up. There as a huge creature hovering over her.
Then the vision ended.
She woke up with a gasp and slid off the chair. Manning caught her. She gripped his arms. She didn't know who held her. The vision had taken a lot out of her. She looked up and saw Liz.
"We're in big trouble," Maizie whispered.
