It had only been a few days since the incident at the Covention but Luz seems to have pushed off the mess with ease, well after sulking around the house the following day, muttering about almost having murdered someone and how Eda wouldn't go into her history anymore after finding out Lilith was her sister. The older witch would deflect with something to the tune of 'if I spill all the beans, you won't be as interested' or 'there really isn't much to know... family stuff'. It's like the older witch knew that those statements just infuriated the human more, renewing her want to get to the bottom of who this witch was and how she got to where she is now. Eda was sure the girls change in attitude was attributed to her dweebus friends visiting and insisting she just ignore Amity, her apprentice seemed to have a hard time at first with the concept but as her friends assured her it was for the best, she seemed to let it go.
Once Luz had seemed back to her usual self, Eda was happy to give her more chores to do in order to earn her keep. "Listen Kiddo, if you do want a Scroll one day, you'll need to really work for it. Those things ain't cheap" she hummed as she served breakfast, having gotten into a bit of a groove over the last few days. "I know, I know. There is just A LOT on this list …señor dame fuerzas" She held up a list that was as long as her arm, sighing as she read over the first few things she needed to action. "Alright. So, return your library books. That doesn't sound too difficult!" She nodded and rolled the paper up to put in her jacket pocket, today she had mixed it up a bit, wearing her green jacket over her cat hood sweater, the hood poking out at the back. She chose her long purple pants; they were loose like joggers and hugged her ankles. "Perfect Kid, you should get a move on then. Do you want King to go with you?" Eda sipped her apple blood eyeing the human as she ate her griffin egg, "Weh?" King started to pay attention as his name popped up, "Hey woah, today is my day to just loaf around if you know what I mean?" he snickered as the older witch rolled her eyes at him. "Titan please, not again" she grumbled sipping her drink. Luz finished her meal and let out a small chuckle, "Well good news King, I think I can manage this one on my own. Dough-nt forget about our plans to read more Azura tonight" The laughter only for louder from the two as Eda groaned. "Alright, get out of here. Books are in a stack behind the door." She shooed Luz away with a wave of her hand these two will be the death of me
Luz gave King a kiss on the top of his head and rubbed between his horns, "Haha alright, well I'll be off then!" She chuckled and walked out to the kitchen, pausing for a moment as Eda got up. "Oh, Luz wait a sec..." Luz raised an eyebrow at her and followed Eda to the living room, a bit confused but curious, it was rare for her to use the girls name. "You left this at the arena, there was a bit of a tear in it so I fixed it with what I had." Eda handed over Luz's favourite red beanie, a small owl patch was now sewn into the band. I thought I lost this for sure... she stared at it in disbelief for a moment before giving a big grin to Eda, trying to avoid the feelings welling up in her chest from this gesture. "Eda... This is amazing, thank you" She rolled the hat around in her hand for a moment before Eda sighed, "Alright, you can do the parallel arm thing... just this once!" she grunted as the brunette girl slammed into her giving her a tight hug. Eda couldn't help but smile a bit from the action, trying to force away the weirdly positive feeling this gave her. Come on, this isn't like me... you just did it, because she needs it, to cover her ears? … But most people know now... I mean- She was pulled from her thoughts as Luz pulled away, still grinning like an idiot at her as she put the hat on her head. "Thank you" Eda backed away from Luz and chuckled, "No problem, Kid, now get out of here. Books won't return themselves and scrolls ain't free" She pushed Luz towards the books by the door and left towards the kitchen without another word. Battling with herself about how to deal with the maternal feelings that kept popping up, King had brought a bit of that out of her but with his need for ruling and independence, it was different. What are you doing to us kid? The witch wondered absent mindedly as she sat back across from King who was happily eating next to Francois.
Luz couldn't believe Eda's kind gesture, there was a large contrast from how the woman was nearly three weeks ago and how she is right now. She found it... washed it and patched it back up, I don't even know what to do for her Luz was lost in thought as she piled the books near the door up, grunting with effort as she lifted them, Yeeesh no wonder she doesn't want to return them, they weight a thousand pounds Luz grunted and thanked Hooty as he opened the door for her. The walk was a solid 45 minutes and if not for the places she could take a break she was positive her arms would have fallen off before she was ever anywhere near the library. The girl let the books drop out of her hands a little bit higher from the counter than she wanted, causing a loud thump that echoed across the quiet Library. This action got a lot of 'sshhhh' from all directions, causing her to rub her neck awkwardly and a slight redness crept to her cheeks. "Sorry" she whispered in reply and looked at the clerk, the man was tall, grey hair with large glasses and a stony expression. "Let's see..." He picked a single book up and made a face of disgust at the condition the book was in. "These are the Owl Lady's I presume..." he sighed and with a wave of his hand all the books carried themselves to a cart for cleaning and return. "These are... late, late, very late. Please let her know her library card has been revoked." He said it with such finality Luz almost didn't catch what was said. "I'm sorry?" the apology caused the expressionless man to raise an eyebrow, "Don't be, not your books, please use the library at your leisure, without a card you may only read on the premises. Now, I have plenty to do so if you have no further questions. I will take my leave, enjoy the library" The man didn't give Luz time to re-inquire about what he had said, Ugh I should have rephrased that, he thought I was apologizing for Eda... I mean, I guess I was but … ah whatever, let's see what this place has to offer. Luz gave up, she would just have to break the bad news to her mentor when she returned.
This had been her first time in the library since she started her stay in the boiling isles, she had walked by it plenty of times on her deliveries for Eda, however she never had the chance to see what was inside. Back home one of her safe spaces was their local library, most of the kids that bullied her would never set foot inside the building. The two buildings might be similar but the magic the library used was amazing, books were flowing through the library in invisible streams, sections of books were able to reorganize themselves, there was an area dedicated to checking out crystal balls to view different passages of time, you could use them to view almost any great historical event, if it was within the Belos reign. Nooot really a great sign... Big red flag in the human realm she cringed and continued exploring what the library had to offer. "Aha! I found you!" Luz jumped and spun around, "Oh, I'm not doing any-" there wasn't anyone around, she looked down the aisle she had come from and saw an opening to another room. Kids corner Luz read the top of the archway and peeked her head inside, she was right on the dot with her assumption the voice came from within. However, she couldn't believe her eyes, or ears for that matter. On the rug on the far side of the room Amity Blight sat surrounded by small children, no more than 4 or 5, they sat hanging on her every last word as she read to them. Changing her voice as she voiced different characters in the book, her hair was pulled back in its usual half up hair style, her clothes seemed a bit more 'relaxed' than any other time she saw her. She was wearing a purple flowing short sleeve shirt with that buttoned up, on her waist was a black belt that caused the shirt to ruffle and give her an hourglass shape, the flowing shirt was slightly longer in the back than the front. Instead of her usual black leggings she was wearing dark red leggings that ended around the middle of her calf, showing off her toned legs. Luz stared at her and felt like there was something missing, the opening of the button up shirt showed off her collar bone but was buttoned up enough that it didn't allow any cleavage to show.
Hmm... She almost seems happy. King might have been upset by Azura and Hecate becoming friends but it's for the greater good, maybe I can make it happen for us too she took a deep breath in and crept into the room, hiding behind a smaller shelf closer to the group. She peeked her head over and watched as she finished up the book. She doesn't even seem like the same person... how do you go from being so mean to Willow to... to reading to kids!? Luz was bewildered by the witch.
Amity sat surrounded by her usual students she read to, she would come to the library once on the weekend and once through out the week, although she sometimes could sneak in an extra day in the summer time. "Otabin, with his heart full, had finally found a friend. Someone that understood him completely and cherished their differences, with that Otabin continued his work and everyday sang in appreciation for his friend. Looking forward to the next time they would meet, and wondered who else, could they befriend together?" Her voice came out soft, she flipped the pages, not even needing to read the words on the page to know what the book said next. This had been a favourite of hers since she was a child. "Wasn't that great? He found an amazing friend!" Amity asked the kids and sparked their excitement, they hummed and nodded in agreement, "You're our friend right Ms. Amity?" A few of the children called to her, she leaned back and put the book behind her on a shelf. "Of course, I'm always here if any of you need me." she assured them, giving the small boy who inquired a pat on his head. "Ms. Amity! Who is your best friend?" A small girl rushed up to her sporting blonde pigtails, the witch could feel a pit form in her stomach as she put the question off. "You have to tell me yours first" she insisted, to which the little girl paused looking around the room. "Thats too hard!" She yelled in protest, before the little girl could ask something else the small bell in the room rang and the kids jumped up to go meet their parents, yelling how excited they are to see her next time. As she got up to leave with the kids one of the small demon boys ran up and hugged her leg, "Thank you Ms. Amity see you next time!" His voice was eerily deep, as she patted his head, she told him she was excited for next time. The boy seemed overjoyed by this and ran away with a deep "Yaay".
Amity chuckled just about to walk passed where Luz was but caught her from the corner of her eye, she had a guilty look on her face as she was kneeling by some books. "Ahh... Hey Amity" Luz said as casually as possible, standing up. "Reading to kids! That's really sweet, not something I would have expected" Why for titans' sake is she here!? Is she stalking me? The witch's eye twitched, clearly annoyed and with that her expression completely changed, there was no more kindness in her face and her eyes were guarded and expressionless. "It's for extra credit, and my job, don't get those leggings in a twist over it." she growled, "Why are you even here? Why every time I turn around are you here?" She questioned Luz harshly, not giving her a chance to reply. "Every single time you're around me, stupid shit happens and I end up in trouble, so how about you get out of my face and leave me the fuck alone?" This was definitely the most aggressively she has ever outwardly acted towards Luz; she was stunned by the sudden harsh words but it was all true. shes right, so far, I've gotten her in trouble at school, maybe even at home and at the covention in front of her dream job essentially... Titan, what am I doing? the human girl gulped down the pain that swelled in her chest at this realization and nodded to Amity, "Ah... I'm sorry. I'll uh go" She turned on her heels, her eyes downcast and avoiding Amity's raged filled ones, positive she can't take the pain of looking into them again.
The change in demeanor caught the green haired witch off guard, but as usual she just reminded herself that this was for the best. The human didn't need to like her, she needed to stay out of her way and not cause any further issues. Damn it, I shouldn't have snapped like that... But what's wrong with her, why can't she just leave me alone? It's not like I've even interacted with her or her friends... I've avoided them for titan's sake. she was gritting her teeth together as she tried to reason with herself and make sense of the girl. As she watched Luz exited the room, she finally let herself come back down, sighing and rubbing her face shaking off the feelings of resentment. Silently thanking titan that she hadn't been wearing her oracle necklace when she lost her cool, no one else needed to witness that. As she made her way out of the room it seemed she had spoken too soon, before her were her brother and sister, Edric and Emira, both two years older than her. They were identical twins, pale like her but with natural green hair, Edric kept his short, hair came down the side of his face no longer than his jawline and although his hair was a few inches long it didn't touch his forehead as he styled it, the birth mark that he shared with Emira was on his right cheek, while hers was on her left. Emira kept her hair long, having it braided down her back, with mid length bangs covering part of her forehead. As she entered the conversation, her twins called to her, using a nickname she despised. "Watch this... Hey Mittens!" The twins called in unison as she made her way over.
Luz had sulked away out of the room, but before she could get very far two green haired witches stopped her, wondering why she let Amity get to her so fast. As Luz studied the twins, she felt something incredibly familiar about them, before she knew it Amity was in the hallway with them, a new kind of anger in her eyes. "Don't call me that" She threatened, ignoring Luz to the best of her abilities. "Mom says to stop leaving your lunch, and you forgot this, she gave it to us on our way out" The twins casually handed their sister a small cat like lunch bag and her oracle necklace, it suddenly clicked in Luz head what Amity seemed to have been missing, she has worn that necklace every time she saw her. The look Amity had on her face as she studied her missing necklace confused her, why does she wear it all the time if she hates it? Just as the thought circulated Luz's mind Amity had grabbed the necklace and thanked her siblings.
Time seemed to freeze for Amity as she stared at the necklace in her brother's hand, "Mittens?" Edric waved his other hand in her face snapping Amity out of it, That's not possible... This was the only place she told me I didn't need it, I'm working, I have space here... Her brain rambled on as she took the necklace from her brother, politely thanking him for bringing it, which was a big contrast compared to how she was just a moment prior. The twins looked at each other but shrugged it off and continued to tease their sister, "You know, you really should be nicer to your friends." Emira said pointing at Luz who was just idly stuck between the siblings. "We aren't friends " Amity was quick to growl out, losing whatever emotion she had just been dwelling on.
"Ah well, that makes sense. She seems way to cool for you" Luz perked up a bit, "I do?" She questioned, Emira had moved to put her arm around Luz, pulling her closer. "Whatever. All of you can leave now" She was still angry, but her tone was much less sharp now, before anyone could reply she walked away her necklace on and her lunch in her hand. Retreating to the staff area.
The twins chuckled and patted Luz on the shoulder, giving her a small wink as they headed towards the exit of the library. She couldn't help the rising heat to her cheeks, both Amity's siblings were on the attractive side, and seemed very comfortable shamelessly flirting. Luz was not prepared for nearly half the comments that were made in such a short amount of time, "We've heard a lot about you, infamous human! One of the only people ever to get mittens into trouble, at school and the witches covention. Haha It's no wonder she hates you" Hates me? The twins had broken the sentence up as they finished one another's thoughts. "I didn't mean to do those things, just... wrong place at the wrong time" she insisted, not enjoying credit for making someone she barely knows hate her, even if that person was mean. "Listen, don't waste your breath on mittens. She's always been a sour one." Emira grabbed Luz's arm and pulled her along with them, causing Luz to focus on the contact and follow obediently. "Edric and I, are way more fun. Oh, speaking of which, I'm Emira, this is my brother Edric." Luz nodded along with the introductions, trying to commit their name to memory. "We are way more fun, come on." Edric seconded his sisters notion, with that the twins went on either side of Luz and pulled her along.
They were infamous for their pranks, as they travelled the library with Luz, she witnessed incidents that ranged from innocent humor – like when they had erased 'non-' from the non-fiction section sign, the tour guide seemed to have a meltdown but Luz realized quickly that was just his personality – to more extreme things. Such as portelling demon books onto study desk to attack students and faculty as they sat down, or switching faculty around causing them to fall or drop their belongings to catch themselves in their new area. The human often laughed with them, enjoying the feeling of fitting in with them, the feeling of being 'one of the cool kids', something she had never had the privilege to feel before. Their final antic of moving the faculty around had caused enough of a ruckus that Amity had gotten them thrown out, shaking her head at her siblings and Luz. As the group landed outside together the twins asked for Luz to come back that night with them, "You're a lot of fun human, meet us back here at midnight. Word is the wailing star Meteor shower is supposed to unlock some rare magical event and there is ... a book we forgot to check out." Emira winked at her and walked away with Edric, giggling as Luz could only nod a reply to her after the wink.
Alright, no big deal. Come back at midnight, help them find whatever book it is they are looking for and then bam! More cool friends. she nodded in approval of her plan and made her way back to the Owl House to burn some time, as she approached the House, she had to cover her ears at the sudden wailing. "Oh, woah. What IS that?" She walked over to where Hooty was in the door, earmuffs secured over his head. "Hiya Luz!" Luz flinched at the mix of Hootys shrills voice and the crying coming from inside. "What is going on in there?" she held her ears tight, barely able to block out the sound. "Bat Queen left Eda to watch her babies! Hoot! They haven't stopped crying for hours but Eda said the Bat Queen is someone you want in your corner! Hoot!" Luz nodded and peeked through a window, seeing Eda and King trying to entertain the babies brought a smile across her lips. She still however, wasn't going to stick around with that kind of crying. "Luz where are you going? Luz? Save me Hoot! Luuuuuzzzzz" Hooty cried and followed Luz as she ran away from the Owl House, 'noping' out of the situation as fast as she could. "Sorry Hooty! You ARE the Owl House. They need you" She yelled behind her, fading into the forest. After a good 5-minute run she finally felt safe enough to remove her hands from her ears, sighing at the silence and panting at the physical exercise. What can I do for almost 7 hours... "Willow!" She suddenly realized, her friend would be leaving her summer plant classes shortly, she might be able to get her before she heads home.
As Luz made it to the school the final bell began to ring – scream – letting the students know it was time to leave for the day. Just in time! Maybe I can spook her when she comes out... Luz snickered to herself as she set herself beside the stairs to the main doors, only looking above the railing enough to make sure she can see her friend's dark blue hair as she exits the school. It only took a few moments for students to come flooding out of the school, running behind the rest was her best friend, always preferring to be out of the way. As she descended the stairs, Luz waited until her back was to her before jumping out and yelling her friends name, "Willow!" She shouted and tapping her friend on the back. However, it was not the reaction she was expecting. Seemingly out of reflex Willow barely let out a sound as she grabbed Luz arm with deadly strength and pulled her over her shoulder, causing Luz to flip over her friend and land with a hard thud on her back on the ground in front of her friend. "Ooof... Ahh..." Luz groaned, her shirt rode up exposing her stomach and her hat had fallen off. Willow let out an audible gasp and quickly dropped her things, kneeling beside her friend. "Oh Titan, I'm so sorry Luz! It was an accident" the witch quickly picked up Luz hat and moved to help her sit up. "Ahh it's all good Willow... Haha... I snuck up on you after all." She appreciated her friend's help and sat up with only a small flinch, fixing her clothes as she did so. "I have no idea how you have ever been bullied with moves like that though" she joked and slowly rose to her feet, giving her back a stretch as she did so, trying not to show the pain she felt, she knew Willow felt bad enough.
Willow seemed to shrug the joke off, "I've never been that kind of person..." She said quietly before giving her head a small shake, picking up the things she had dropped when she was helping Luz back up. "What are you doing here though?" Oh I hope that came out how I meant it The witch thought to herself before clarifying, just in case. "I mean, it's great to see you, obviously! But I thought that you would be helping Eda out today." Luz nodded and gave a relaxed shrug, "I did an errand for her and now I have some time to kill before going out again later" should I tell her about the twins? She always seems uncomfortable when I bring up anything to do with Amity... or Blights in general. She debated with herself but ultimately decided if her friend inquired further, she would try to avoid the question. "Oh well, do you want to help me with some homework then? You mentioned Eda had been teaching you some potions, right?" Willow didn't seem to want to pry into her friend's day, although she did feel like there was something Luz wasn't telling her. The question seemed to spark a lot of interest in the human, "Of course! I mean, it's mostly non magical potions but I'm always willing to learn" She gave Willow an enthusiastic thumbs up. "Perfect! We can use my cauldron at home, I'm sure my dads are dying to meet you" I get to go to her house, yes! Friendship level up. Luz mused in her mind as she followed Willow to her house. "This is going to be awesome; I hope I make a good first impression. Do I look okay? Is there dirt on my back?" She tried to look at the back of her clothes as she followed Willow through the forest leading to BonesBorough. Just barely missing walking into a tree, Willow grabbed her friend's jacket, "You're fine! Come on, it's a long walk now that we missed the transport worm to BonesBorough." Willow gave a reassuring smile and tugged Luz along with her. "Oh... Sorry that's my fault. Well, in the meantime you can tell me all about your class, right?" Willow didn't need any more of a push, truly loving what she was learning in her classes.
It had taken almost 2 hours by the time the two girls had reached Willows place, thankfully it hadn't felt nearly that long as Willow went into the details of her plant classes. The witch answered nearly every question Luz had for her regarding the classes, everything from what plants to stay away from to what was edible despite not seeming like it was and anything she couldn't answer she made a mental note to find out. There were things they passed in the forest that Willow happily picked to show Luz some neat tricks, a specific flower when mixed with a red berry could create a heat when the berry was put inside the leaf and friction was applied. Luz loved the trick, making a mental note of it for if her hands ever got cold. When they had gotten close to Willows house, Luz couldn't help but marvel at the architecture of the area, only having been around this area for short deliveries for Eda. "Alright, home sweet home" Willow declared happily, her home wasn't large by any means but it was quant and gave off a very warm vibe, the whole front of the home had beautiful window gardens and hanging plants, really making it seem like a 'Willow' house. "Wow, Willow, your house is beautiful" Willow blushed slightly and waved her hand, "Ahh too kind, come on, let's get inside it's getting late already" She unlocked the door and took off her shoes, putting her school bag down. "Daaaad, Papa! I'm home, and I brought Luz over!" She called as she entered, giving her friend another reassuring smile. Okay Luz, you got this... Act normal? Ugh what is normal? Of course Luz immediately got into her own head about the interaction, this would be one of the few times she met her friends parents.
Willow hadn't noticed Luz's dilemma and pulled her towards the kitchen where her parents had called back to her from, "We're going to use the cauldron in the basement, okay?" Luz was dragging behind trying to figure out the best way to introduce herself, her head was swirling in panic, she wasn't the best with first impressions. Both Luz dads nodded in agreement to their daughters statement, "Alright, where's this infamous Luz we keep hearing about?" Willow turned to introduce her and finally noticed she had left her in the hallway. "Oh uh... She's just nervous." She chuckled and walked back to the hallway leading to the kitchen where her friend had frozen, "Come on Luz, it's alright, they aren't scary!" The witch whispered taking her friends hand and pulling her from her thoughts. "Ah right, sorry Willow" she said sheepishly and entered the kitchen, "Hello! It's a pleasure to meet you both!" She offered a small wave, trying to keep her cool and be herself .
The two men weren't exactly what she was picturing but they also fit into how Willow described them perfectly. The paler of the two men was the first to speak, he had a very kind and soft voice "Hello! I'm Gilbert, Willows dad. It's a pleasure, we have heard a lot about you and it's so nice to have you visit." He looked a lot like Willow, short dark hair and squared glasses. He wasn't stocky but he was certainly healthy for his age and seemed to work with his hands, Luz was confident this was the one of her parents that did construction for the city. The other man was slightly darker skin, a little darker than Luz herself, he had lost some of his hair, although there was a small tuff he kept in the front, he also had a full beard and mustache which was a stark contrast in comparison from his clean-shaven partner. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Harvey, Willows papa, we heard what you did for Willow." He nodded his head towards Luz in approval, which caused a slightly embarrassing blush to cross her cheeks. "Ah... I just wanted to help, she's an amazing friend." Willow let them go through their pleasantries but as soon as introductions were over, she politely interrupted, excusing them to the basement. "You girls have fun, let me know if you need anything. We restocked most of the basics for your classes." Gilbert gave them a small smile and continued to what he was doing in the kitchen, "Please stay for dinner, it won't be much longer" Oh no, what do I say? I don't know if I can even eat what they are having... But I don't want to be rude. Willow could sense the panic and quickly dispelled the worry Luz had, "I'll make you one of my salads, should remind you of home!" she insisted, pulling Luz along.
The basement was exactly how Luz was hoping for it to be - just like in her favourite books - it was lit up with only a handful of candles and a low hanging chandelier, giving the room a lot of ambiance. "Your house just keeps getting cooler and cooler Willow!" Luz whispered, the dim light making it feel like a secret place. "My dad actually built our house, he helped with the project when he was still in the academy for construction. So this whole block and a bit he assisted to create, plans and all, it was one of his dreams to move into these houses." Willow told Luz the story with incredible fondness, really feeling proud of her dad's accomplishments. "Thats incredible, what a way to make a goal and stick to it. He certainly made a future buyer outta me" she joked, as they settled into the room Willow took out a large book from the shelf just to the left of the cauldron. At the back of the room where it sat was a large stone base, brick built from the base all the way up the wall, a big opening fed all the way up to the roof of the home where the fumes would exit. It was very well built, not only beautifully crafted with the way the brick arched around but functional. The base had a spot that was large enough for wood fires, coals or any alternative heating sources. "So" Willow let the book land on the table with a loud thump, opening it up and thumbing through the pages. "They asked me to make a grow potion, nice and simple" She hummed, glancing at Luz who was busy reading all the labelled materials, herbs and exotic ingredients. She really is the perfect student, so curious about everything around her... I hope Eda will let her enroll. It would be good for her I think... "Hey Luz, did Eda ever give you an answer on enrollment?" Willow could see a small flicker of a frown before her friend turned to face her and give a small sheepish smile, "Well, not exactly yet. She's... sort of a pro at redirecting my attention. I've noticed the last few times I've asked she switches topics." Luz let out a small sigh, making her way back over to Willow to help gather the necessary ingredients. "I think I'll talk to her about it the next time we go work at the stand... I know she has her reasons, but I think it's a great opportunity! Well, you know." She laughed, knowing she didn't need to explain this to her friend, they talked in length about it a few times. "If you need help, I am more than happy to help you state your case! Just let me know." Both girls smiled at one another before putting their attention on the potion.
The time flew by, before either one of them knew it dinner had been served, eaten and their brewing potion completed. They had made enough for two bottles, wanting to have one they could test before she submitted it tomorrow when she went into class. "Alright, I know earlier you were saying it works on a variety of plants, but does it work on anything else?" Luz casually inquired, wondering what the limitations were on the potion. "Well... technically, this potion takes the cells and alters them, so potentially it could be used on different kinds of organic matter but I think you would need a LOT more to accomplish anything like that." Willow could tell Luz was curious to see but didn't feel like trying to explain the situation to her parents if something went wrong, "We'll have to give it a try another time, maybe I can casually inquire tomorrow" she teased, causing Luz to give a small chuckle in reply, nodding, seeing she had been caught trying to explore some weird territory. Willow had given Luz the chance to be the one to test out their potion, they had taken a small succulent that was struggling to grow and repotted it in a larger pot, hoping the potion would fill the space. "Alright... Let's do it" Luz slowly poured the potion out, making sure she got the plant itself as well as a circle around it to encourage the root system's growth. Both stared intensely at the plant, waiting, not taking their eyes off it worried they would miss something. When the minute mark passed Luz finally looked to Willow who seemed to have a small frown forming, We did it all correctly... Portion sizes, brewing time..." she was just about to apologize when one of the plants leaves suddenly doubled in length, causing both to gasp and refocus on the plant. There was a small glowing in the soil, indicating that the potion was finally working. "Yes..." Both whispered and giggled as their voices had overlapped. After about 5 minutes the plant had doubled in size and looked vastly healthier.
Having completed the potion to their standards Willow checked the time, "Oh... Woah Luz, I'm so sorry, I kept you here so late. It's almost 11:15!" She had a frown on her face, worried she had taken up too much of her friend's time with the brewing. She said something about needing to do something later, I doubt she meant this late. As Willow was beating herself up for not tracking the time better Luz could only laugh, Willows mood could drop instantly if something happened, this often made her worry about what could have impacted her so heavily to make it so easy to flip that switch but she didn't want to pry just yet. "It's all good Wills, I still have some time. I think we got this done right on time honestly" Not only did the laugh pull Willow from her own desolate thoughts but the sudden nickname made a smile appear on her face. "Wills?" She questioned, raising an eyebrow and poking at the human girl. "Oh! Ahh, hope that's alright." She barely had time to finish her sentence before Willow replied, "Of course, I just wasn't expecting it! It's cute, I like it." Luz could feel the warmth of friendship flow through her body, it was so foreign to her after all these years but that was part of what made their friendship even more special. "I have to go, make sure you send a crow over tomorrow to let me know how it went. I expect a full report" she joked as Willow brought her back upstairs, both being as quiet as possible as they noticed Harvey and Gilbert asleep on the couch cuddling, having fallen asleep watching the crystal ball. That is just too cute... When finally outside Willow answered and gave her friend a small salute. "Yes Ma'am!" Both laughed and hugged, happily saying goodnight to one another as Luz made her way back to the library.
That was nice... I hope I get the chance to visit more often. I'm sure it'll be weird for them when Willow moves to the dorm, if they know that's her plan... I should ask her when I talk to her tomorrow Luz hummed as she made her way through the quiet town, small groups of people were gathering on their roofs, for the meteor shower she assumed. The night was perfect for an event like this, it was cool but not cold and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. By the time Luz got to the library it was 11:50, only a few minutes before the Twins said to arrive, she had been hoping to get here after them to avoid exactly what was happening now. Her nerves were setting in again, Ahh how can I go from being so calm and myself around Willow to feeling like a bundle of anxiety around those two? Luz groaned, leaning against the large pillar of the library she pulled her beanie down in front of her face. "Already get caught?" Two voices in unison asked, causing her to yelp and pull her hat from over her face. The twins were a few feet in front of her, arms crossed, this time they were both dressed in their casual or comfy clothes. Their outfits almost matched, the only difference was instead of Emira wearing full length black sweat pants like Edric she was wearing knee length tights. Both were in green button ups with long sleeves that were tucked in, Luz thought it was a bit of a weird choice given their comfy pants but couldn't deny they looked great. As Luz came back down to reality from the scare, she gave them a timid smile and fixed her hair, "Sorry, nervous I guess?" She offered the answer up, almost like it was a question.
The twins shook their head and ushered the girl closer, "No need to be nervous, we're just going to have some fun." They both assured her, however the anxiety hung tight to Luz as Emira worked with Edric to draw a spell circle that pulled the library's keyhole open, turning it into a malformed door. "Come on" The human girl nodded along, pushing her anxiety as far down as possible. They got in not a moment too soon, just as they were looking around the lobby to make sure they were alone the wailing star came streaking passed the stain glass window high above the entrance. "Oh perfect, the wailing star!" Edric called attention to it, just in time for all three to see it fly by, true to its name it cried as it passed. "Let the magic begin" Emira called, looking around as if something was supposed to happen. "Did it not work?" Edric wondered as he approached his sister, both speaking low about the logistics of the event. Luz had noticed though, that all the books around them were now giving off an eerie green glow. "Uhh... Guys?" She called to them, not getting a reply, she shrugged and picked a random book from the massive shelf. 'Extinct birds of the isles and beyond' as she opened the book up the glowing from it got impossibly bright, causing Luz to flinch. As soon as she averted her gaze a massive light sprung from the pages and countless birds appeared in the library, ranging from massive birds that looked very akin to some of the dinosaurs described at home to tiny pray birds that hopped along the floor. "Woah..." the three spoke in unison as they took in the sight before them. After a moment, Luz slammed the book shut, wondering what would happen, in an instant the birds vanished like they had never left the pages. "Holy Titan... The wailing star magicked the books to life!" The twins gave each other a high five and ran over to where Luz was.
"Come on, let's have some fun" A sly grin appeared on the twins faces as they dragged Luz further into the library, testing books as they went, constantly in awe of the different people and things that appeared before them. They were happily hollering and calling to one another, easily ignoring the other sounds coming from deep within the library depths.
