Two uploads in two days. Spectacular. Anyway, the ideas are pumping out of me right now, my handy dandy notes document I have for my story is over 3k words long, so let's just say that from now on the only thing stopping faster uploads is lack of time.
But, ladies and gentlemen, here we are. Over 40 thousands words in and we are only just touching the main plot. I think it is safe to say that this story has a long long long way to go until it ends. But never fear, I also have a long long long time to live so with a bit of luck this story might actually be complete within the next 60 years.
"I'll do anything." Hannah replied with certainty. Snape looked downwards towards his desk, regret and guilt sketched on his face.
"This is extreme, Miss Byron." Snape warned.
"I'd willingly die if it meant doing the right thing." Hannah responded, confidently.
"You have a choice, Miss Byron," Snape started, "you have a choice between moving back to the dormitory, or doing the favour I ask you. I warn you that this favour mightn't be the right thing to do."
"And what's that?" Hannah pushed on.
"But I do not wish for you to put yourself in this position if the situation does not arise, which Dumbledore believes that it most likely will not." Snape continued.
"And what is this situation?"
"Ever since I saw who your parents were, I started to believe that you were bound to be put in a certain position." Snape continued to delay. "The Dark Lord knows the family members of every single death eater in his inner circle. You might have noticed that a lot of the well-known death eaters are family members. The Carrows, Lestranges, Rosiers," Snape paused for a moment. "The Leems."
"You want me to become a death eater?" Hannah asked, raising her eyebrows.
"No." Snape took a deep breath, "I don't want you to become a death eater. But the Dark Lord might."
"So…"
"The Dark Lord is planning something. He's planning on recruiting as many people as he can, while still under the radar, and the easiest way to do that is to recruit the direct family members of those in his inner circle. I can promise you that the Dark Lord will not seek you out himself, but he'll find a way, through somebody else, to seek you out. Perhaps, through your own family members."
"But sir, the only family member I know is…"
"In prison, yes. But Voldemort has his ways of getting things the way he wants."
'So what is it you want me to do?" Hannah continued to push.
"You remember when you said that you were the catalyst of other people's life purposes?"
"Yeah?"
"I can't fulfil the duties I've been given if I'm dead. Mr Pucey informed me of certain students being aware that you stay in my rooms. Slytherin students. Ones who have direct connections with death eaters."
"So they could easily relay the information to their connections and result in one of us getting killed?"
"Precisely." Snape rubbed his hands over his face, before continuing. "So in any case, you and I are likely to be in danger from either perspective, even if you do decide to move back to the dormitories."
"Hermione asked me to try and get as many Slytherins on their side as possible, although she told me she was referring to their side against Umbridge."
"You are most likely correct in assuming she was referring to the side against the Dark Lord. The three of them tend to have a suspicious amount of knowledge on the information the Order discusses. Although she is correct in assuming that forming an allegiance with Slytherins will decrease the rate of death eaters formed from the house, it still does not make either of us entirely safe. You and I both have enemies, therefore we will always be at risk of exposure."
"So what is the favo…" The door opened to Adrian walking in, before Hannah could finish her sentence.
"Mr Pucey." Said Snape, his voice now void of all emotions.
"Professor, I'm sorry for assum…"
"It's fine. I suggest you and Miss Byron head off to bed now. You have classes tomorrow." Snape interrupted Adrian. Hannah withdrew all her complaints with one look at Snape's warning face, and decided she'd just head off to bed, leaving Snape with his head in his hands surrounded by the chaos of broken jars. She'd find out what the favour was another day.
That morning Hannah didn't see Snape at all. Anxious to get more information from Snape, the day dragged out longer than a day should've gone. Classes seemed a lot more tedious now that Fred and George weren't at school because of their father being attacked, and her thoughts about last night's conversation haunted her throughout the day. Despite the fact she had double potions that day, Snape appeared to have been avoiding eye contact with her throughout the entire period. She had her assumptions about the favour Snape wanted her to perform, yet she could never be certain. Not with Snape, anyway. The reluctance he had shown when describing the matter worried Hannah. If he couldn't say it then while the conversation was flowing, perhaps he wouldn't be able to bring himself to tell her what he wanted.
Evening closed in soon enough, which found Hannah and Adrian lounging in Hannah's room, with Spero and Ligo cuddled up at the end of her bed. "I think it's odd." Adrian spoke out of the silence.
"Hmm?" Hannah responded.
"The cats. Ligo used to be entirely independent, now he sort of depends on Spero. I just think it's odd."
"Not necessarily odd. Just unique. Animals do tend to reflect off their owners." Adrian looked down at his feet, smirking.
"So are you implying that I depend on you?" asked Adrian.
"I said no such thing. I merely implied that you are unique." Hannah raised her eyebrows at Adrian, smirking.
"Good. Because I don't depend on you. I just heavily rely on you for entertainment and company." Adrian raised his eyebrows back at Hannah, mockingly.
"It seems that Spero feels the same way about Ligo." Adrian's eyes momentarily widened, before he quickly averted them away, scanning around the room instead.
"That's a nice drawing you have there." Adrian pointed at the drawing of a black cat which was lying on the floor. The drawing showed the cat in a sleeping position, its fur seemed to be greying, and its frame seemed slightly skeletal. The cat then slightly adjusted its sleeping position, moving its head as if resting upon something else. "Impressive. I've never seen a pencil drawing move."
"Neither. It just sort of started moving one night. The night I moved into Snape's rooms, actually." Hannah explained.
"You know, I saw a similar one in Dumbledore's office. It never used to move, but when I went into Dumbledore's office to use the pensieve it seemed to be playing around. Sort of looks like Spero, when I think about it."
"Oooohhhhh." Hannah voiced in realisation, as she remembered selling a drawing to an old man as a 10 year old. She looked over at Ligo, and saw him resting his head upon Spero. His fur seemed to be greying, his frame slightly skeletal.
