Chapter Two.

Some hours later on at eight that evening, the train stopped in Collinsport, Maine. The instructor told her what door to get out of and Juliet stepped off and she walked onto the platform. Mathews was so happy that she moved away from the busy streets of Manhattan. She needed to go some place nice and quiet to stay. Juliet went over to the bench and she sat down. She placed her two suitcases down next to her.

After she sat down for about fifteen or twenty minutes later to gather her bearings from the long ride up from New York, Juliet stood up and she picked up her luggage and she started walking from the train station and she began to walk down the small restaurant and she saw that it was closed up for the night. Mathews felt a bit disappointed about going there for coffee. Juliet then walked over towards the Blue Whale bar to get something to eat and drink and then, she would get some sleep at the Collinsport Inn she reserved. The Inn opens twenty four hours a day.

Across the street from the Collinsport Inn, the Blue Whale was there and Mathews went there and she walked in for a bite to eat. Inside the bar, it was both decent and busy and some people looked at her in curiosity, but soon realized that she came traveling to the small town. Some had recognized her as the painter from New York.

Juliet went over to the table towards the back and she sat down at the table when she placed her two suitcases under the table when the bartender walked over and asked her what she wanted to drink and eat and she told him that she wanted a sandwich along with some Irish Whiskey and a club soda combined. The bartender, Bob nodded to her and he took her order and went over to his worker and got her the drink and her sandwich.

While she waited for her drink, Mathews took out her note pad and she had in her hand bag and started writing. She kept herself occupied when she started to write down things on her list that she needed to get done and she also had her client's and the art museum's phone numbers that she needed to make for her paintings and charity donations.

Moments later, Bob gave Juliet her Irish whiskey and her sandwich and just then, Burke Devlin and her friend Vicki Winters walked in. Mathews was very happy to see her. "Hey, Vicki, over here!" She said happily as she waved over towards her and Burke.

Vicki looked over and she covered her lips with her hand in stun surprised when she saw her friend that she had not seen ever since they lived their lives after the Orphanage. Winters took a hold on Burke's hand. Devlin was looking in between Vicki and Juliet and he could tell that they knew each other very well and being good friends.

As soon as Victoria and Burke walked over to where Juliet was at, Mathews and Winters embraced in greeting. "Oh my God! I have not seen you since the last time I saw you in a long time, Juliet." Vicki said happily. Burke stood right behind her as he watched with a warm smile on his face.

After they greeted, Victoria grinned when she turned and looked over her shoulder and gazed at Devlin. "Burke, I would like you to meet my good friend, Juliet J. Mathews, who I was telling you all about." She said when she gestured Devlin to Juliet.

Burke smiled at her. "Hello there. I'm Burke Devlin." He said as they both shook hands. "It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Mathews." Juliet nodded and smiled at his words. "Vicki spoke very highly of you and about your paintings." He added before they sat down and they talked. Victoria asked Juliet if she could stop by at Collinwood in the later morning and Mathews told Vicki that she had to stay at the Inn and wait until later the next day because the movers were coming to drop off her things.

So, Vicki agreed with a smile. Mathews and Victoria had a lot to catch up on.

Mean while further in to Collinsport, into the woods and right next to the ocean over by Widow's Hill, at the Old House in to the drawing room, Barnabas Collins paced back and forth, planning to catch his next victim for blood. He walked over to the window for a moment and he looked up in to the sky and he watched the moon rise over the horizon. He was in deep thought up until he went to go get his black cape coat and his silver wolf's head cane and he opened the door and he walked out in to the night. He was out for blood.

Or so he thought he was for his other victim at the docks and he would for another in town near the Blue Whale.

Back at the Blue Whale bar, Burke, Victoria and Juliet were talking and they were laughing about the good sense of humor that Burke was telling them. Some of the people were leaving for the night. So, Vicki, Devlin and Mathews were the only ones left at the bar. Up until they saw Bob walked over to the tables and he started to put the chairs up on the tables. They saw this as their cue before the bartender told them that he was about to close up for the night.

Juliet stood up and she picked up her suitcases from under the table and she went over to the door and she was about to walk out of the bar when Winters and Burke offered to walk with her to the Collinsport Inn. Mathews politely and respectfully declined and she told them that she would see her in the afternoon. So, Juliet bid them a good night. Vicki and Devlin smiled and they shrugged their shoulders and they walked out of the bar for the night.

Outside as he walked in to town, Barnabas went down towards the docks to find to attack someone for blood. The vampire saw a drunken man climbed cautiously out of his boat after he drank his whiskey and Barnabas hid behind a small building, in which was right next to the Blue Whale to wait until he came by him.

At least the man was lucky that he did not fall in to the water when he carefully got out of his boat. Barnabas could tell he was drunk by the smell of the strong whiskey. The vampire cringed at the strong smell while he waited for the right moment when he walked out of his hiding area.
The man was drunk as a skunk and he had no idea what was coming to him.

Barnabas could read his mind of what he was planning to do for the next day. So, the vampire took his chance when he snuck up on the man and he wrapped his hands around his neck and he strangled him. The man raised his arms to fight him off of him, but to no avail. His arm got close enough behind him to reach the vampire and Barnabas quickly grabbed hold of his arm then bit his arm to drain out his blood. He used his one hand to strangle him. The man winced in pain. The vampire hoped that no one would find the bite mark on him.

The man felt his blood was draining quick and decreasing his strength and he was losing the battle against him and could not breathe. He fell on to the boarded docks now lifeless. Barnabas had his quench of thirst for blood that he needed to survive. He dragged the dead man over to the side of the building and he placed him, sitting up, rolling his sleave down and making it look like he was passed out from being drunk.

After that was done, the vampire walked over towards the road and he then stopped frozen in his tracks when he heard a heart beat so beautiful to his ears. He looked around to where the source was coming from and he saw a woman, who was carrying her luggage, walked towards the Inn.

Barnabas sensed her innocence, generosity and even love coming from her and some how, he felt her sadness and loneliness coming from her, but why was she felling like that Barnabas wondered. Now the vampire felt very drawn to her the moment he saw her. A moment later, and he began walking towards the Collinsport Inn without anyone seeing him.

Mathews walked across the street and she opened the door and she went into the Inn. The Inn owner saw her and he asked her of who she was. Juliet told him and the owner was pleased. He recognized her as the painter. She paid the owner in advance and he had her following him to her room on the third floor where she was staying.

The Inn owner gave her the keys and he bid her a good night and he closed the door to give her privacy. Juliet went over to the bed and she placed her suitcases down over by the bed and she opened them to take out her clothes for the next day. She took out her music box that her mother had given her for her fifth birthday and she placed it on the night stand next to the bed. Juliet opened the top of the music box and it started singing the most beautiful tune.

And she also took out her sketch book and pencil, so she could draw the outside towards the water, but she would do that in the morning before the movers truck comes to drop off her paintings. Mathews took out her pajamas to get ready for bed for the night.

Outside, just across the street from the Inn, Barnabas was standing next to the Blue Whale and he looked up and he was watching her, who was on the third floor. Barnabas saw the lights on and he had very good ears when he clearly heard the music coming from where she was at. He had never heard of such a very beautiful music and he could tell it came from a music box.

The vampire wondered of who she was and what she was doing here in Collinsport. He would soon and find out when he would get to know her soon enough. And after a moment, Barnabas disappeared and he turned into a bat, flying up towards the third floor of the Inn.
