Chapter Seven.
In New York City in broad day light, Juliet's other friend, Susan Keywood from where they went to College for art and painting down the street in Manhattan. Susan was told by Eric's coworkers at the construction company that Eric was acting very strangely. They told her that Eric was going to take some time off for a week. When she went over to his apartment, she was him walking outside and she kept her cool when she went over towards him. "Hi, Eric. How are you doing?" She asked him. She acted like that she was happy to see him. She knew that there was something up with him. She had a very bad feeling about him.
Eric saw her with cold eyes and he smiled grimly. "Oh, hi, Susan. I'm doing well." He said while he cleared his throat. "Well, I'm taking some time off from work and I'm going up to Maine to go see Juliet and talk to her." He said as he turned around towards his pick up truck. Susan's eyes widened when she saw a hand gun in his pants pocket. He was planning on killing her friend in Collinsport. He was out for revenge. Eric waved to her to tell her that everything would be all right and he climbed into his truck and he drove up north to Maine. It's a very good thing that Juliet gave her the address to where she was living. She had a call to make to Juliet to look out for Eric with a gun.
Susan knew that what Eric just said that everything would be fine, but she knew that it would not, because he was blaming everything on Mathews. She knew that he took everything from Juliet. This could be very disastrous for her friend. She was living in the same apartment building as Juliet. Susan knew that Juliet was staying at Collinwood when Mathews told her where she was living. She also knew that it would be hours to get up to Maine from Manhattan, New York.
She power walked back in to her apartment right after Eric left to get revenge on Juliet and she went straight for the phone. She picked up the phone and she dialed zero and someone answered it from the other end. "Hello, operator, give me the number to Mrs. Elizabeth Stoddard and Juliet Mathews at Collinwood in Collinsport, Maine." She said. The operator asked her why she needed this phone number and Susan was getting a bit annoyed. "Please, operator, this is very important. It's a matter of life and death." She said with worry over the phone. The operator completely understood her and she put her through. The phone then started to ring in hoping that Juliet would answer.
At Collinwood, Elizabeth was sitting in the drawing rooma and she was writing her finances in her record book for the cannery business. She knew that Juliet and Vicki were in the study with David. Mathews was helping David with his lessons. Roger was at work in his office for the family business and Carolyn was at the Collinsport Inn restaraunt, having lunch with Joe Haskel and Sam Evans. Maggie was working that day, serving them. And Burke Devlin was at his hotel room, doing his investigation on certain people.
Liz looked up in confusion when she heard the phone ringing. She was sure that she was not expecting anyone at this time of day. Liz stood up from the chair and she wondered of who it was calling. She picked up and she answered it at the third ring. "Hello, this is Mrs. Stoddard. May I ask who is calling?" She asked with curiosity.
Susan was on the other end. "Hello, Mrs. Stoddard, my name is Susan Keywood in Manhattan, New York and I'm a friend of Juliet Mathews. Is she there?" She asked her with a bit of worry in her voice. Elizabeth could tell that she was worried about something or even someone. So, Liz asked her why, so Susan told her that Juliet may be in danger. Liz completely understood and she placed the phone down on the table to go get Mathews in the study room.
Elizabeth walked into the study and she saw Mathews. She softly smiled when she saw Juliet. She softly sighed. Mathews, Vicki and David looked up at Liz, wondering what she needed. "Juliet, there is a phone call for you in the foyer. She said that her name is Susan from New York." At Elizabeth's words, Juliet eyes widened just before she stood up from the cushioned arm chair, she thanked her and she power walked out of the study room to the foyer. Liz, David and Winters were very concened for the painter.
Juliet picked up the phone and rested it against her ear. "Hello, Susan." She said softly. Kiz and Vicki were standing close to her, so they could hear to what Keywood was saying to her friend. They wamted to make sure that Juliet would not break down crying in which they knew that she would.
On the other end of the phone. "Hello there, Juliet." Susan said and she was very glad when she heard her voice. "I had to call you to let you know that Eric is coming up to see you with a gun." She paused for a second. "He's coming up there to kill you." Susan was very worried for her friend. At Keywood's words, Mathews whole body began to tremble. Elizabeth and Victoria noticed this and they held onto her. They have heard every word to what Susan was telling Juliet. And now, the painter was now afraid for her life that Eric was coming to kill Juliet. She had never saw this one coming.
Despite her body shaking and scared for her life, Mathews nearly dropped the phone reciever on to the floor when Liz caught it just in time before it fell to the floor. "Vicki, bring Juliet up to her room and stay with her please." Liz said. Winters nodded and she did what she was told.
Mathews was going through a panic attack while Victoria was giuding Juliet up the stairs and the painter's tears were streaming down her face and she was beginning to say while she was sobbing, "I need Barnabas. Please, I need Barnabas." Mathews cried tearfully. Elizabeth felt bad for her when she looked up at Mathews and she understood how she felt. She knew that Juliet needed Barnabas. Liz knew that the vampire was gone out of town for the day, but he should be coming back this evening.
Elizabeth placed the phone reciever to her ear. "Miss Keywood, what is going on with Juliet's reaction just now? Is there anything the matter why she acted this way?" Liz asked and she was very curious as to what was really going on. When Susan told her that Juliet's former boyfriend was going to kill Mathews when he would see her. Susan also told Liz about the relationship break up between Juliet and Eric. Now Elizabeth was starting to worry about Mathews even more. She thanked Keywood and she told her that she would make sure that nothing would happen to Juliet. Liz hung up the phone and she walked up the stairs to make sure that the painter ws all right.
