A bench near Bowl Fountains
Abbey sat on a bench near the frozen fountain and wrapped her coat tighter around herself. The winters in D.C. did not prepare her for winter in Russia. It was an entirely different beast. Earlier that week she had gotten a tip that she was to finally meet her partner on this undercover mission. She was to be sitting on this bench at exactly noon and they would find her.
She glanced down at her watch and it read 11:58. Whoever it was still had time to show. For a month now she had been working at infiltrating a Russian arms trade that was smuggling street weapons to the U.S. She had finally gotten close to one of the smugglers and it was time for her to reveal the weapons contact she had promised. That was who the agent she was waiting for would pose as.
The sun briefly peaked out from behind the clouds. Abbey shielded her eyes and she felt a presence slid onto the bench next to her.
"Not a bad day considering it's winter…in Russia." A smooth voice said.
Abbey looked over at the man sitting next to her. He was a bit older than she would have thought; IF he was her contact.
"It's my first winter here." She said back to him. "It seems to be full of surprises."
He made eye contact for the first time. His clear blue eyes complimented his silver hair nicely. The man stood up and held out his hand.
"Walk with me." The statement was more of a command than a question.
Abbey took his hand and stood up. He guided her arm to rest in the crook of his elbow and they began walking.
"How do I know that I should be going anywhere with you?" She asked trying to get confirmation that this man was indeed her contact.
He reached into his pocket and she stiffened slightly. He pulled out a coin and held it out to her. With her free hand Abbey took it and flipped it over. It was a coin with the FBI's logo on it. The very same coin that she had thrown into the fountain at the airport when she had arrived a month ago. He was the man she had been waiting for.
